PAP’s Eric Low claimed credit for bringing LUP to Hougang

From our Correspondent

PAP’s losing candidate in Hougang during the last two elections has unshamedly claimed credit for bringing the Lift Upgrading Programme (LUP) to the residents living in the constituency!

Speaking to the state media yesterday, Eric “Chiku” Low who claimed during the 2006 elections that the Hougang “chiku” was ripe for picking before losing to Workers’ Party strongman Low Thia Kiang, he attributed Hougang being selected for the LUP to his relentless and unyielding efforts:

“Though I was not elected, I have been trying hard to lobby the authorities including National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan to upgrade the lifts in Hougang. Now that the lifts will finally be ugraded, I am extremely satisfied about it.”

Mr Eric Low also said he is willing to stand in Hougang as a PAP candidate in the next election if the party decides to keep him.

He revealed that he will be setting up a PAP kindergarten in Hougang next year which will charge 20 to 30 per cent less than private operators.

As usual, Hougang’s rightful and legitimate MP Mr Low Thia Kiang cannot be reached for comments.

Though Mr Eric Low is only a representative of the PAP in Hougang constituency, he behaved as if he is the MP there.

Instead of leaving Mr Low Thia Kiang to make the annoucement of the LUP, he jumped the gun and leaked the news to the media.

Banners of Mr Eric Low are ubiquitous throughout Hougang estate while those of Mr Low Thia Kiang is conspicious by their absence. An unaware resident not living in Hougang may even mistake Mr Eric Low as Hougang’s MP!

While the PAP is not in charge of Hougang ward, it still conducts grassroots activities there to undermine the Workers’ Party.

A year ago, a despondent Mr Eric Low fresh from a second straight morale-sapping electoral defeat at the hands of Workers’ Party (WP) chief Low Thia Khiang — decided that he would stop being taken for granted by Hougang residents. So, he slapped a fee on his previously free health-screening programme and stopped his Meet-The-People sessions and popular free breakfast service for the needy.

Nevertheless, given Mr Low Thia Kiang’s tremendous popularity in Hougang where he is the MP since 1991, it is an uphill task for Mr Eric Low to unseat him in the next elections, even with the massive carrots of estate upgrading dangled in front of the residents.

    GTFO, Eric Low.

It’s amazing that the PAP is still using this obedient but nevertheless useless xxx. At least fire him and hire someone more competent.

Eric Low is going to get spanked in the next GE. Again.

  • cy:

low thia kiang is right in acting low-profile, not commenting and not displaying posters all over the place like what PAP do.

follow deng xiaoping strategy 韬光养晦 and advice to zhu yuanzhang (ming dynasty first emperor) 高筑墙、广积粮、缓称王

my advice in view of the lopsided strength balance between opposition and PAP is 厚积薄发, 形容只有准备充分才能办好事情

  • lego:

This is what one can expect from ST, the lap-dog of PAP. ST either never tried to contact Mr Low Thia Kiang or rang his office at 1am. No wonder ST has ZERO credibility!!

I’m also utterly disgusted by Eric Low’s attempt to claim credit.

  • Teochew Kia:

Reminds me of the Teochew saying which translates to “Using someone else’s bottom to make one owns face”

  • KAM:

Even if Eric Lee is indeed “responsible” for convincing the PAP to give LUP to Hougang, does that make any inroads to any otherwise unfair election leverage which is ILLEGAL for this PAP member?
    No.

People in Hougang and rest of Singapore should wake up their idea, and do not let gangsters take their money, manage it, and then they give you back some peanuts and you start jumping in joy like monkeys. Are you all monkeys?

  • Exposer:

“He revealed that he will be setting up a PAP kindergarten in Hougang next year which will charge 20 to 30 per cent less than private operators.”

So where is he going to get the money ? Very sure like Woody who promise the upgrade carrot for Hougang, but finally reveal that he didn’t have any idea how to get the $100 millions. Such a bunch of shameless liars who promise thing that can’t be deliver and make excuses for their lies. They still the citizens still fall for their tricks and lies ?

  • Exposer:

“Using someone else’s bottom to make one owns face”

    Rephase this as

“Using someone else’s bottom to make one owns faeces, only that it only get smellier !’
Apply this to Eric Low enlist his “already tainted” mentor’s faeces to boost his own faeces ! Must be very tasteful !

  • Time for Change:

  • Alan Wong:

I can never forget the dirty tricks that they used to entice the voters from voting the opposition :-

    1) Never implemented or offered the development funds to the Opposition MP for LUP.

    2) Threatened to use the carrot again.

    3) Offered shark fins soup for a dollar or so.

    4) Installed some street lighting and after lost the election say it is up to the Opposition MP to maintain it.

  • amy:

Shameless man, underhand tactics, disgusting party.

If only the 66% wake up…

  • Mee Siam Mai Hum:

    Yahoooo….election coming

  • randomnessinmind:

“4) Installed some street lighting and after lost the election say it is up to the Opposition MP to maintain it.”

Hahahahahahahahahaha you just reminded me of it, it was damn funny!

  • Annoynimoooos:

I stay in hougang and I wouldn’t want pap kindergartens in my constituency to brainwash my kids or my neighbours’ kids with propaganda only to grow up to become pap bootlickers.

  • Smart People:

If the voters not only in oppppppposition ward known how to play the game, they can get double incentive. U know jolly well
nothing free in Singapore. U must get—-get—— get back what the PAP in the past had put pressure & extorbitant taxes on U people.Make them do all job for U people, enjoy life with less pres——-sure,The PAP are the most Shamful & Thick skin people in Political History. Make Singapore with coalition goverment. So get back your Rights.Do not give them absolute power. They will corrupt absolutely.

  • Happy Citizen:

Yah, looks like GE is coming. Perhaps after Obama’s visit to Sin-gap-ore. Otherwise, how can people be so shamefully shameless? Really a no-brainer. With such low mentality, how can be elected as MP for Hougang?

  • FPC:

What else do you expect from members of the shameless party?

The top guy has been taking millions from us but what has he produced?

multi-billion dollars losses in TH and GIC.

Not to mention foreign trash that requires 10 million to integrate.

  • ric:

Isn’t Singapore a democratic society base on justice and equality? Residents in hougang should be treated equally. Why would they need a PAP representative to fights for their Lift Upgrading? Isn’t that a promise by PAP to achieve Lift upgrading for all Singapore HDB flat before the next GE? If Eric Low is honest about what he is saying, isn’t he slapping himself on the face by indirectly admitting trends of discrimination and favoritism?

  • jk:

so what if GE is coming?
as if you will get your rightful chance to cast a vote.

  • btan:

Guys, it’s so simple. It means now you can vote for the opposition and you get to be served by TWO MPs!

Vote in PAP MP, get served by only one (or maybe even none)

Vote in opposition MPs, get served by two MPs.

I think the choice is very clear.

  • ric:

We should know that GE is not the only time we can do something for the country. Just that most Singaporeans are too coward to do anything.

  • jolly:

I am really looking forward to the general election and i am sure that goes for everyone born here. just that many of us will not be able to vote . those that do , please vote wisely to release yourself from the bondage

  • btan:

To increase your chance of voting, contribute to the opposition party most likely to run in your ward.

Contribute here means either donate to them and urge people to donate to them so they have the money to put up candidates to run.

It helps that they also get more than 30% of votes in a ward.

Last GE they can only put up at most 20 candidates per party. This shows their resources is severely limited.

Hence they will only run in a ward that has previously supported them (more than 30%) OR if that ward is not LKY or GCT’s ward.

  • lily:

what a douche bag! what a sneaky and underhanded way to undermine low thia khiang. this is just a way he & the rest of his cronies will try to “win” votes for his party.

PAP is going to start bringing out the heavy artillery as the next GE draws nearer. beware of the red herrings, smoke & mirrors, SGeans!

  • All the crap:

This guy is so useless that during the last election,PM
had to call in Woody to reinforce the Wayang show. Not
enough Woody had to dangle a big $100mil carrot for the residents for the upgrading works. Did it worked???
Interesting to see who will be next the PM will call for
the wayang show this time around!!!!

  • Moe Gan Thai:

The Pm will go down Hougang himself, if still can not, then bring in the old MM, if still can not then scrap Hougang, that is the only choice, that is their dirty tactic.

  • Terrified:

Whenever I dropped by at Hougang or Potong Pasir, I like to see and watch the people there. It really marveled me that the population there got GUTS and they are very different group of people from those in CCK or any other towns that gave PAP more than 60% of the vote during the previous election.

  • FedUp:

anybody staying in Potong pasir? I’m so proud of you!

it’s exactly because you have the balls to vote for the oppo for so many years that you are enjoying the fruits of having another a pap-mp-wannabe grovelling for your votes now.

pls remember that once you start to vote for pap, your area will be annexed into surrounding pap grcs and all perks withdrawn.

  • Why is WP called Wayang Party ?:

    To Cy,

Low Thia Kiang is no generalissmo, and it is laughable if he thinks he can succeed following this “高筑墙、广积粮、缓称王” advice given to Zhu Yuan Zhang.

广积粮 – who are his notable WP members? Only one Slyvia Chiang. The rest of the educationally qualified members like Goh Meng Seng, Perry Tong have flown the coop, perhaps disllusioned with his brand of co-opted politics.

缓称王 – Zhu Yuan Zhang dared to attack other warlords. Low Thia Kiang, on the other hand, does not dare to attack a GRC, preferring the safety of his single constituency.

All in all, Worker’s Party will not be the alternative party in Singapore.

Low is not the man to bring the party forward anymore. Gone are the days when JBJ, Francis Seow and Tang Liang How brought the credibility into the party called Worker’s Party.

  • Ah Cow:

This reminds me of lky claiming credit for

the Exxon-Mobil deal. I’ve learnt not to

take them too seriously, otherwise I’ll

    die laughing!!

  • Moe Gan Thai:

I agree that there are no heavy weight candidates in WP.The next election will see the same result,i.e 2 seats for opposition.only % of vote for oppositions may rise to 42%.

  • Yay Election:

Yayyyy I’m sooo happy election is coming!

Got more free money to spend, free one day holiday, and I don’t even get to vote in my lifetime!
