Singapore PRC PR Zhang Yuanyuan flashed NRIC on Chinese TV and proclaimed loyalty to China publicly

From our Correspondent with tip-off from Ho H K

A Chinese national and Singapore Permanent Resident by the name of Zhang Yuanyuan humiliated Singapore publicly on China’s CCTV by flashing her NRIC on the screen and subsequently declared her undivided loyalty to her motherland, China!

Ms Zhang was the only overseas returnee in the formation and has intrigued the media because she chose not only to return home, but to also take up the tough regimen as part of the parade.

She came to Singapore to study and work in 2003, and got her blue Singapore PR identity card two years later.

Despite a job with a multi-national company, which reportedly paid her some $4,000 a month, she returned to Beijing last year and worked in a state-owned enterprise.

Months later, she heard about the chance to be part of the women’s militia contingent during a recruitment drive, she jumped at it.

When asked by CCTV Channel 7 reporters why returned to Beijing, she proclaimed with a wide smile on screen that “repaying the motherland is her greatest wish!”

To add insult to the injury, she allowed her Singapore blue NRIC (for PRs) to be filmed. As expected, the Chinese state media swooned over the story:

We were alerted to Miss Zhang’s CCTV interview by an angry Singaporean Ho H K who complained:

“I happened to view this clip on Youtube and I got the biggest shock of my life when I reach 1min 05sec of the clip! It proudly displays a PRC woman by the name of Zhang Yuanyuan denouncing her Spore pink IC & return to China to work & participate in PRC’s 60th National Day celebrations. With the opening of the floodgate for the foreigners, I seriously wonder if there’s a small fraction of possibility that I will trust them in times of national crisis.”

Ever since the Singapore government open the floodgates to increase the population through immigration, large numbers of Chinese nationals have flocked to study, work and live in Singapore.

Though they are encourage to take up PRs and citizenships, not many of them choose to settle down in Singapore especially with the growing strength of the Chinese economy.

Unlike a few years ago, China is more prosperous than before. Certain cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou have a living standard which is comparable to Singapore.

Ms Zhang, who benefitted from a Singapore education, will be highly sought after in China due to her English proficiency. It is not surprising that she has decided to return to China.

The ruling party has come under increasing criticism from the disgruntled citizens for “mass importing” China internationals including athletes to represent Singapore in international competitions.

During the Beijing Olympics games last year, Singapore’s Li Jiawei, who was born in China, caused a stir when she swept the Singapore flag on the ground when marching as head of the Singapore contingent:

jiaweiflag

Jiawei is currently in Beijing waiting to deliver her first child. It awaits to be seen if she will return to Singapore.

Goes to show yet again that foreigners are just using S’pore as a stepping stone. Which foreigner in his or her right mind would take up S’pore citizenship, knowing how badly S’pore govt treats its own citizens???? They rather remain PRs or foreigners…..very little difference in terms of benefits….BUT no need to serve NS!!!

  • cy:

firstly, there’s nothing wrong in PR proclaiming loyalty to their own country, its normal.

the problem is that the govt in a wish to please PRs and new citizens, neglected old citizens and thus cause envy, resentment, anger, jealousy.

it’s like a parent who dotes more on an adopted child than their own child. how will the own child feel?

  • Newly Wed:

I felt so disgusted by all the goverment policies… Do we really have to be so cheap…

  • That’s what you get when the govt opens the floodgates to foreigners without any regard for S’poreans. Wake up all you fellow citizens and throw those overpaid & overhyped PAP goons out at the next election!

  • AK Tong:

Guess these people treat China as their “motherland” (where the yellow race aka “Chinese” originates i.e. as in birth) and Singapore as “fatherland” (where bread & butter is got).

Btw, Miss Zhang hasn’t acquired citizenship yet. Has she?

Reminds me of the Indian mee goreng seller at West Coast market. One day I didn’t see him anymore (he had been in Singapore and a pink IC holder too) and I asked the new stallholder. He replied “sudah balek India” i.e. went back to India for good.

Well, this is the real world. Some will stay on, some will leave. Some will also move on to whitemen’s places like Canada, Australia, etc., and then behave really like mice (inferiority complex when facing the superior pale face) daren’t utter a word; forever patronishing and saying “yes”. Poor Asians, poor Chianmen . . . . .

    Hee!

  • ObviousMan:

A slap in the face for Singapore’s so-called foreign talent policy. Personally, i know of numerous examples like this. She is not the first to change sides as she sees fit; neither will she be the last.

The so called foreign policy is but a cover-up of the too-successful stop at two birth-control campaign a generation ago, which resulted in the shortage of manpower today.

If anecdotal evidence is any guide, a generation down the road, Singapore will face it greatest challenge when its economy slows and the population of PRs return back to their native countries.

  • Peter:

Just to follow up on AK Tong’s write-up -

Unlike India, neither the Chinese nor Singaporean law allows one to hold dual citizenship i.e. citizen of BOTH countries.

I believe 3rd or 5th generation overseas Indians can apply for that right of domicile.

  • dd:

at least we’ve got gong li…

  • Time for Change:

I am very sad to see my fellow Singaporeans losing their jobs to these Foreign trash and struggling to put food on the table for their children. And yet this is how these ungrateful foreign trash repay us. By publicly humiliating our country.

Don’t our multi-million dollar leaders have any shame.
Shame on you. Why are you so cheap??? Is the fear of losing the next elections so great that you resort to putting down the very people who have supported you all these years??

Time for Change. Vote for Change.

  • Exposer:

“Unlike India, neither the Chinese nor Singaporean law allows one to hold dual citizenship i.e. citizen of BOTH countries.”

In fact, the Singapore law does allow dual citizenship, though by exception not the norm. Have you not heard about a distinguished medical researcher given dual citizenship in Singapore leegally ? It is true it happen before since I have read about it some years back in ShittyTimes before I stop acquainted myself with Shit.

THink about it: only 2/3 of singapore’s population being citizens (and that includes “new citizens”). But only those born and grew up here have to do National Service, and after that anotoher 10 years of career interrupting In-Camp Training.

But do the NEW citizens, the Males in this case, have to go through this? The answer is NO.

But they get the same privileges ‘cos they are “Citizens”.

One wonders why so many NEW citizens are conveniently over the age of NS call-up (18years) and well into their late 30’s to early 40’s which is when ICT ends for male citizens.

Sure, they say they support NS, but this can only be proved when their own sons reach the age of 18. Will these young men be sent away to other countries for further studies, and stay there for good so they don’t have to waste a few years of their lives doing NS? In my time, things like these were already happening.

By the way, some true blue Singaporeans even have to serve ICT till the age of 50.

But what do they get in return? Ridiculously overpriced HDB flats, a government with overpaid ministers who don’t listen to the people…amongst many others.

It has been hotly debated, and even rebuked by a new citizen from PRC in the paper’s forum section recently, that they, the NEW male citizens should not have to do ICT or NS as it is “impractical”. Wow!

    Ask yourself:

    - Why aren’t these NEW male citizens made to do NS? Singaporean males have to sacrifice up to 28 days per year for NS. Even getting these NEW citizens to do community service or washing the tanks and jeeps of the Army is better than letting them continue to strive in their career while real Singapore males have to bear the responsibility of being a citizen.
    - And come to think about it, who are the Singapore men, NSF and NS men, protecting?
    - When the bombs drop, who are the ones who will be donning the uniform and heading to the frontline?
    - In times of war, is marital arts expert and movie star Jet Li, a so-called Singaporean, going to kung-fu kick our enemies? Or is he just going to jet-set his way back to the States or wherever his private jet can take him? Only he can tell you… but don’t be surprised if he says he will fight Singapore’s enemies… to prevent controversy, why would he say otherwise?
    - Is Singaporean Li Jiawei going to use her ping pong skills and help fight the enemies? Or will she just fly back to her Beijing husband…?

Ask yourself… what is a Singaporean?

    sigh….

  • btan:

I don’t begrudge her for her loyalty to her country. If anything else, this is proof that getting foreigners to come to Singapore in the wish for them to take root here is not a good policy.

If the government don’t wake up, we the citizens have to wake up and vote in more opposition to check on their questionable policies.

  • BuTaHan:

It is natural for PR to show loyalty to their motherland since the bond with their family, friends, etc are hard to forgo and may be that is one of the reason why they do not convert to Singapore citizen. What is unnatural is our government who sacrifice the welfare of the locals, who are bonded to this land and serve their national duty, to make those who are not going to make this land their permanent home and use here as the place to create wealth, happy!!!!

  • thor:

slap in the face isn’t it not?

    AK Tong,

And there are plenty of those “superior pale face” in Singapore! Sigh, pity sinkies!

  • Sibeh Sian:

What is exactly the problem here?!! If a Singaporean emigrates to the US, gets a great education there and green card, he or she will probably still think SG as their motherland…
We would be proud to welcome them back as talent. Same situation here except replace “Singapore” with “China”.

PR does not mean eternal loyalty to Singapore, it is merely a permit to stay here indefinitely. Don’t resent other people for being opportunitistic when you would do exactly the same thing to get ahead in life!

  • xiaoming:

its time for the leader to wake up, they can only important foreigners to destory their own land because eventually foreigners are foreigners and they would have to go back home, its the people here who would clean the mess.

  • WAKE UP folks – the idea of Singapore as a country, doesn’t really work. We are just a City port state. But a great city.

  • Ken:

Shouldn’t we have to re-think the criteria regarding about issuing of NRIC? In the first place, why should people get PR only after coming here for such a short period, i.e., after 2 years?
Why should we accept PR so easily? Is globalization really that beneficial to us, LOCAL Singaporeans? Are we really benefiting?
Just take a look at the flag bearer… Flags touching the ground… It simply shows how much respect our so-called singapore glory treat Singapore?
It is high time we have to wake up, my fellow COMRADES!

  • wat?:

why is this an issue if the person is only a PR. She is STILL a citizen of china. its like you singaporeans having a canadian PR.

  • Anonymous:

Zhang Yuanyuan humiliated Singapore publicly on China’s state-owned CCTV by flashing her NRIC is not just humiliation of Singapore. It has the OFFICIAL EXPLICIT SUPPORT and PUBLIC ENDORSEMENT in message conveyance to Mainland Chinese that Singapore is a STUPID country available to be used and should be used to advantage with scant respect for our mercenary servitude.

It is done in conjunction with their national day celebration as if we are a vassal state of them – the timing and ironic put down of our national identification show what kind of contempt they hold for us.

Singapreans wake up, it is time for change.

Hi all, i worked in IT in an overseas bank in singapore and 98% of my co-worker are from India. Most of them obtained PR status recently from what i can gather from their discussions. The sad thing is they bear no loyaly to singapore at all !! They celebrated India National Day in office even when they are Singapore PR !! I gather most of them got jobs here in singapore because of the IT bosses in HQ are from India and they know how to look after their own… the funny thing is that most of them are not more qualified than our POLY students but got better jobs and pay than our own singaporean!!!

Our government do not protect or look after singaporean. It is time we show them our disapproval and frustration by voting them out !!!! Singaporean, don’t believe what PAP and our newspaper SAY!!! OBSERVED THEIR ACTIONS !!! DO THEY REALLY CARE FOR SINGAPOREAN !!!! THINK AND WATCH CAREFULLY !!!

We must take this as a lesson, and PM Lee should be made aware of these. We the citizens of Singapore, are not cohesive, we are moneyminded and we will move out of Singapore at a hair’s drop. If PAP and the ruling still don’t care and continue to MILK singapore for her money (CPF and others) and ignoring nation building, soon singapore will become a second indonesia, just an empty shell. those who can migrate will go. Those left behind will revolt and there will be chaos.
    Sad.

  • NewImmigrants FIRST-NativeSingaporeansSECOND:

Let’s see how the Singapore government react to this.

  • kknd:

Please guys, there is nothing to be concerned or upset about.

The SG(PAP) government gives out PR/citizenships to foreigners like candies to kids on Halloween. A lot of economic statistics is computed using ‘Singapore Residents’, which means it includes the blue card holders.

Furthermore, Miss Zhang was merely honest about where her loyalty lies. And it is always a good idea to side with the winning side. Give another 5 to 10 years, Sinkies may have to find employment in Shanghai as domestic workers. And just like the Pinoy maids who hang around Lucky Plaza on weekends, Singaporean maids may have to hang around one of the Capitaland-owned malls in Shanghai.

  • Temporary Citizen:

Temasek Review, based on the fact that you are producing articles that make pr loyalty to their motherland sound like a crime shows how successful pap has blurred the difference between pr and citizen. According to the Residential Property Act, a permanent resident is a FOREIGNER. they PLEDGE ZERO ALLEGIANCE TO SINGAPORE. pap should not be giving them so many perks and letting them into sg so easily.

  • Eve:

For those who can read Chinese, check out this popular chinese website where people speaks badly of Singapore(http://www.tianya.cn/publicforum/content/worldlook/1/146789.shtml).

    1. Why are we giving them scholarships that our poor Singaporeans are not getting?

    2. Why are we importing NEW people with low QC check and increase our crime rate?

    3. Why are we giving them citizenships that they don’t even care a heck about?

    4. Why did our country import so many people to come and criticize us, take our jobs and not be loyal to our country at the end of the day?

I guess that’s because we do not know the NEW people well enough as they will always remain loyal to their five-stars flag country. They came to Singapore only to get what they need – it’s a matter of making use of us and foresaking us after they have got what they want. I’m sorry to say that this is how people survive in China. Having been in China for five years, worked with the locals in many cities and travelled all around their country, I am sad to see Singaporeans becoming the minority in our own country! My Chinese friend in Singapore even told me that he’s considering whether to be a Singapore PR as he was invited to be a PR only after working in Singapore for 2 years!

This time I came back to Singapore, walked our streets, I felt like a minority. So what if the birth rate has increased? Can this last? Will these people remain loyal to our country? I doubt. I know they will leave us when we are in trouble. I seriously think that the ruling party should look into their policies that introduced so many NEW people. Why force the minority Sgreans feel like leaving their homeland? My sg born friend told me that he wanted to give up his citizenship in the future. Why?? Do you know that the importing of China nationals to represent our country for ping pong was being laughed at by people in China? They said that China has won 1st and 2nd place at the Olympics! I then found out that they were China Chinese. Sigh…

  • enough is enough:

  • Tan Tui:

I was Malaysian. Singapore PR now.

Nothing beats it. The number of Indonesians in Malaysia numbers a couple of millions. This is due to Malaysia’s very liberal import policy from Indonesia especially. The local Malays don’t mind it at all.

As cheaper labor, they replace the local Indians in the plantations and are mainly found in the construction industry.

The crimes that are committed frequently in Malaysia are also mainly done by these immigrants.

Many have also become “bumiputras” to enjoy special privegiles as they choose to settle down in Malaysia from marrying the local girls.

  • michael:

i doubt the purpose of the author: do u intend to start a conflict?

    To SGPR,

Thanks for your response and clarification. I am aware that PRs your age have to do NS. I am talking about the NEW CITIZENS, not PRs.

Anyways, you can always choose not to do NS by heading back home. You have that choice. Singaporeans, no I mean, locally born and bred male Singaporeans don’t have that choice.

So she flashes her NRIC, it’s to show that she worked/studied in Singapore.

So she declares loyalty to China. Um… I don’t think she had a choice. Seriously, imagine being in her position. I think if she said otherwise, she’d be sleeping with the fishes.(Or, in her case, that Falun Gong crowd)

And besides, hasn’t the government stated that by letting her study and work here, she’d have a good impression of us which would be beneficial to us when she gets into a higher position in her company a few years from now?

  • Mohd Zain:

    Singaporeans talk BIG.

Certainly without Malaysia Singapore wouldn’t have been a first world country. You stole our talents.

All the talents that have driven and are still driving Singapore are Malaysians.

Remember Chong who enabled SIA to takeoff to be world’s best, Goh Keng Swee (S’pore economic czar), Olivia (Hyflux CEO), etc. And many more as academicians, engineers, etc.

So, we have to thank us!

  • Lensman:

Hey Mad Zain, I have to thank you all in M’sia leh. For the majority people and their government shortsighted that had made Singapore $$ 2.4X stronger than M$, our Singapore Airline the world best, our financial centre – one of the strongest, our government – one of the cleanest (and dun drink kopi leh), plus our streets – one of the safest to walk day & night.

Hey, it was Malaysia who did not give these people “Remember Chong who enabled SIA to takeoff to be world’s best, Goh Keng Swee (S’pore economic czar), Olivia (Hyflux CEO), etc. And many more as academicians, engineers, etc.”" the chance to excel, becoz of their skin color (being Chinese). Hence the export to Singapore. I had witness a case too, straight A student @ STPM was denied all 1st choice of studiest at their Malay wuni (7 of it all together). Then the knight in shinning armour, the Singapore University took her into a medical course, without even an interview. Previlage reserved for top grades students. Not skin color or connections.

U still think that SGP is part of Malaysia like HK SAR to China ah. U were the ones who said that we won’t survive and then will come begging to rejoin M’sia. BS leh.

But still have to thank you for you & your elected government’s bumi policies….otherwise, SGP will really be in trouble leh.

    So…thank you lah :-)

  • Time for Change:

Voltaire, this is not a trivial issue. Just because you were granted citizenship doesn’t mean you have to suck up.
Tens of thousands of Singaporeans are struggling to put food on the table for their infants and children because of these PRs. The come here, enjoy all the benefits, then go back and humiliate us.

And you said, “i am myself a foreigner & a new citizen too & the level of transparency is in singapore there’s not even 10 % of it elsewhere.” I guess you meant it as a joke or you probably just arrived from North Korea.

  • Time for Change:

    Voltaire,

By the way this story isn’t going to go away. Your political masters have to deal with it in the MSM.

  • Time for Change:

What do you call an organism that attaches itself to another body, sucks it dry and leaves? Answer: Parasite.

    PRs = Parasites.

  • Don:

    Oh dear…

LHL, LKY, VB and all those gahmen who tout about needing FT and making a home for talent – they have been screwed. And screwed big time.

But Singaporeans are the ones holding the baby.

  • ric:

Blame it to ourselves. We as worthy citizens of Singapore allows our own government to enjoy a uncontestable regime. If our people can practice our rights as a democratic country to stand up as a collective movement, our government will have to really be on their toes not like now where their fatty butts had stuck on their golden couch.

  • Grim Reaver:

Though I really hate the FT who do this, but I remind myself whats worse are the people who allowed it to happen.

Really like a company. DOnt matter whether the employee is local born or imported. As long as they accept low pay, work long hours, generate revenue can liao. Even they consistantly “resigned” after a few years, also never mind. Can easily import new ones to replace the old. Its all about the bottomline.

  • Mai Kay Poh:

I think everybody’s overreacting here. She’s a blue IC and a PR, not a citizen. If she had been a pink IC, then the negative reactions would be justified. As a PR, her primary loyalty is to the country she is a citizen of: China. One thing that the PAP should change is the granting of PRs like cheap candy. If foreigners want PR, let them apply for it and go through the wringer that is the process. A PR doesn’t need to show loyalty to Singapore. On the other hand, preference for jobs should go to Singaporeans and only when there aren’t sufficiently qualified Singaporeans should the jobs be given to PRs (any company that penalizes Singaporeans on the basis of their requirement to do NS should themselves be SEVERELY penalized both financially and prohibited from operating in Singapore). I am a Singaporean citizen who is a PR in America. That is the way it works here: Americans get the jobs first, then others. Fortunately for me, most Americans aren’t that good in the I.T. or other technological fields. The ones that are good cannot fill the demand. Thus it should be in Singapore.

  • Omega Lee:

Err sorry, nowadays are mainland Chinese. You are living in the past. And how smart are Malaysians when not even ONE has won any international science or maths award, despite all the As etc.

“$$ 2.4X stronger than M$, our Singapore Airline the world best, our financial centre – one of the strongest, our government – one of the cleanest (and dun drink kopi leh), plus our streets – one of the safest to walk day & night.”

Strong currency is not equal to strong economy. Why dont some retards understand this?

Singapore Airlines is one of the world’s best, so is MALAYSIA Airlines, how come some people like to deny this fact?

Clean government does not need to be paid millions.

Low crime rate is the reflection of the law-abiding and (too obedient) mentality of local majority SINGAPOREANS, not of Malaysians.

“Then the knight in shinning armour, the Singapore University took her into a medical course, without even an interview. ”

Without an interview?! Even the best local student with 6 GCE A levels has to go through an interview for medical course. I didnt know that NUS has a Malaysian first mentality.

Please for all the so-called Malaysian supermen and superwomen, stop being quitters and go back to support your country after 2013. Make Malaysia / Penang etc into what Singapore is today.

All these mainland China people have like this behavour however they studied the high education here. They do not understanding the human ethincs. They want to bite the hand that give them a daily bread.

It is time to review for this kind of people for entering the country with little knowledge.

They spoil the country images. It will downgrade the impresssion of Singapore.

  • chinaman:

    1. She is a Chinese citizen. There is nothing wrong she marched on China’s national day parade.
    2. She showed her IC card on television to show her loyalty to China, not to insult Singapore. Please don’t be so sensitive.
    3. She worked in Singapore and therefore has a residency status in Singapore. She decided to move back to China because there’s better working opportunities and possibly better living standards (for her salary), most importantly, her family live there. There is nothing wrong where she decides to stay.
    4. Whether showing ID card on TV is an infringement of privacy is another question. Certainly it is not appropriate to do so without covering ID numbers.
    5. Singapore’s prosperity very much depends on the working of foreigners. Please take a look at the construction workers around you, can you ask Singaporeans to work in such hard condition, receiving such low pay to construct “your first class city”? Although Li Jiawei represents Singapore for Olympic Games, she can’t feel to be a Singaporean. Moreover, it is your government who invites her to play for your team. It is not normal that a country blames a player who has won the first Olympic medal for you.
    6. If you have problem with your government, please don’t blame and put your hatred on foreigners. Please understand the position of government too. Singapore’s prosperity very much depends on foreign trade and investment. If you don’t care about economical matters, please use your vote to voice your opinion, instead of blaming foreigners for your own distress.
    7. Please don’t live in fear of competition. Even if the competition doesn’t happen in Singapore, it will move elsewhere. It is how the world works. Blaming others is a not a good strategy to win.
    8. Please consider how you would like to be treat when you go to other countries. Do you want foreign country force you to stay and blame you for disloyalty if you don’t feel a sense a belonging?
    9. China has quite different cultures and social norms from other countries. Many things considered inappropriate in western society is not considered so for many Chinese. If her behavior has caused you anger, please forgive Chinese society for it. But please consider the above points.

Good slap on LHL’s face. I personally knew of several chinese scholarship holders studying in NUS, they will just get the NUS degree, work here for a few years and either go back China or go overseas to US or Australia.
This case is not an isolated case, since our govt is so cheap, they will be taken advantage of and be labeled ’stupid’. I see no where in the world where there are such policies, only Stupidpore

  • Omega Lee:

Thank you, chinaman. I have to agree with your points and may I say your English is impeccable. What Singaporeans have a problem is the QUANTITY and QUALITY of foreigners that our PAP government chooses to let in. I believe that many Singaporeans would be happy to have foreigners like you who are capable of civilized and reasoned dialogue to work in Singapore. I might add that Mainland Chinese PR/new citizens come to work in Singapore purely for economic reasons, and not like others from neighboring countries with a POLITICAL agenda.

Singapore is a 700sqkm island, which has limited land for any activity, whether be it commercial or recreational, similar to the problem faced by Hong Kong, which necessitates some kind of control of human inflows. Unfortunately, our government has not chosen a transparent and meritocratic way of doing so.

  • 13yearshere:

As China gets stronger its citizens will only get more arrogant and look down on others the same way they were looked down a few decades ago. If Singapore’s is trying to piggy back on China’s growth – ‘Speak Mandarin’ & all then such incidents will reoccur.

  • Roy:

CCTV shows to all Chinese that Singapore PR is easy to get. Soon, lots of PRC will come here to apply for PR. Singapore is going to be a stepping stone to USA, UK and other Western countries. Singapore passort to these countries is no hassle to the immigration compare to PRC passort.

  • Doraemon:

How come so many China People Choose Singapore? Hong Kong also the place to choose and somemore very near to China, Why they no like HK?

What the Hell that China People do……Tell them that Singaporean are NOT Welcome them to come to Singapore, Go to HK & take PR there or stay back to their countries and work. Singapore are not welcome them.

  • FedUp:

it’s obvious the message cctv is tring to send to its chinese people:

go forth and gain experience and $$$ by working in singapore, get their pr even to enjoy tons of benefits, but come back to china because there’s where your heart belongs.

nothing wrong with this clever move by china. the only problem is this is a zero sum game and poor singaporeans lose out.

vote out this government. or singaporeans will never have a home country, just the existing hotel.

  • Omega Lee:

“Hong Kong also the place to choose and somemore very near to China, Why they no like HK?”

Because HK is even more FULL than Singapore. We are not racists who use this as an excuse because it is a fact we are an ISLAND. And an already very densely populated one at that.

And China has 1.3+ billion people. We cant even accomodate 1 percent of her population.

  • chinaman:

  • redhady:

and still they wonder abt the Malays’ loyalty to the country. but the fucking PAP govt don’t bother thinking twice abt these muthafuckas who come here just to get PR, enjoy the privileges but share none of the responsibilities and openly declare their loyalty to some other country that HAS the capability to destroy us, militarily and economically. bravo govt, yet again, you’ve shown the world how dumb you are when under the delusion of being smart!

  • BuiTaHan:

It is natural for people to go to a place where they can maximize their benefits and so I don’t blame foreigners from coming here to improve their life. But it is unnatural for government for not taking the welfare of it’s own people into account when implementing policies e.g. depression the wage for lower income group, skyrocketed property price, etc due to large influx of foreigners, in the aim of achieving high GDP figure. Government has to take 100% blame !!!

  • FPC:

    //chinaman

“She showed her IC card on television to show her loyalty to China, not to insult Singapore. Please don’t be so sensitive.”

Is showing her S’pore PR IC necessary?

We are not being sensitive. She is being provocative.

qualifying that action does not negate the fact that it was provocative.

//”Singapore’s prosperity very much depends on the working of foreigners.
This is a myth. It is not true. There are many policies that are stacked against the Singaporeans that increase our demand for foreigners such as pilots, accountancy, even acting.

“Please take a look at the construction workers around you, can you ask Singaporeans to work in such hard condition, receiving such low pay to construct “your first class city”? ”

As if we are concerned with these construction workers’ presence beyond physical security consideration.

We are more (a lot more) concerned with the obstruction of lucrative jobs to Singaporeans but to the advantage of FTs.

As if we don’t know these constructions are not permanent. (how many more buildings do you want in singapore)

“Although Li Jiawei represents Singapore for Olympic Games, she can’t feel to be a Singaporean.”

Does she interact with Singaporeans? Then why did she take up the citizenship?

All immigrants need to mingle with the locals. That is the reality of becoming a citizen of that country.

My friends in the table tennis association told me that SHE and other former PRC players never play with the locals. So, local standards are never raised by them.

Their presence in our team and the way they are managed is a demonstration of our inane politicians to accomplish some olympic dreams for the sake of grandeur but the return from those investments are large while the results are so small.

” Moreover, it is your government who invites her to play for your team. It is not normal that a country blames a player who has won the first Olympic medal for you.”"

Which player are you talking about? Lee Jia Wei?
She did drag our flag on the floor.
The fact that we are not inspired is a clear demonstration of the stupidity of the policy of importing ft players into our national team.

Well, Chinaman, whoever you are or from, we in Singapore is a secular society. Your self-confessed “some racist remark” may be “ultra vires”. Google those two words if you want to find out what that means.

Meantime, be acutely aware that Singapore is NOT China, if your moniker is correct to your origin of birthplace with due respect.

I do NOT go China and walked its street carrying a FREE TIBET, FREE SINGJIANG OR A FREE DEMOCRACY BANNER. You respect the host’s inviolable boundaries.

  • Omega Lee:

“Your self-confessed “some racist remark” may be “ultra vires”.”

If you dont know how to use the proper Latin phrase in an English sentence, please don’t even try. You sound as stupid as Miss Ris. What does “your self-confessed “some racist remark” may be outside the power of” mean?

Recently Malaysian papers owned by members of a certain race, lambasted a young Malay court reporter’s ENGLISH proficiency for not knowing the meaning of the same phrase in a sedition case in their courts. I really do not know which set of reporters are more INCOMPETENT.

  • chinaman:

Hi, Anonymous writer who doubt my label of racism. Please take a look at what myo zaw tun has written above. If you don’t agree that it is not appropriate to write such message in a public forum, I wouldn’t discuss with you more or this matter.
I’m not saying China is freer than Singapore. But by pointing your finger towards Chinese censorship doesn’t justify his saying.

  • chinaman:

FPC. I understand what you are saying and I agree with some points. What you mean is that it is the government’s fault to important foreign players who doesn’t feel a sense of belonging to Singapore.
I respect your rights of speech but I would like to add one more points to my argument. Singapore is not the only country to import Chinese Ping-Pong players actually. If you take a look at the world tournament, you can see Austria, Japan, Hong Kong and Germany team (and probably more) all have Chinese Ping-Pong players. Many talented Chinese coaches and players play for foreign teams because they can’t join Chinese national team which monopolized the top players. Chinese Gymnast Li Donghua has won 1996 Atlanta Olympics gold medal for Swiss national team and he was applauded as a hero in Switzerland. Li Donghua returned China now but his belongings are still exhibited in the Olympic Museum in Lausanne.
The interesting thing is that only Singapore has the largest resistance to accept the Olympic medal won by Li Jiawei and it is not the minority of people. Should Singapore consider its concept of nation?

  • newdawn:

If the Singapore Chinese majority are now reacting negatively to the flood of China immigrants, just think how the minority Singaporeans feel? Right now they are already excluded from 80% of jobs available (just check the ST classifieds)
The fact of the matter is, a new China immigrant has more job opportunities in Singapore than Muthusamy or Mohammad, period!.

Hi Chinaman, I have NOT seen your comment which you of your OWN confession admitted to be “some racist remark”. So there is no basis for my comparison.

I think one needs to be prudent to understand word or words expressed “in context” in the same manner you have
commented out of context, most unfortunately, ..”I’m not saying China is freer than Singapore”. I am NOT making a COMPARISON of China as “freer” or “less freer” than Singapore. There was NO reference to “freer” which is YOUR OWN construct – not mine, please.

What is did said was..I do NOT go China and walked its street carrying a FREE TIBET, FREE SINGJIANG OR A FREE DEMOCRACY BANNER. You respect the host’s inviolable boundaries.

EXACTLY THE LAST LINE READ..meaning… one should RESPECT THE HOST’S INVIOLABLE BOUNDARIES” – whether the boundaries is acceptable to my political thoughts or NOT is NOT A RELEVANT ISSUE.

I just HAVE TO RESPECT China’s inviolable boundaries when I am there for whatever reason or reasons.

I don’t decide what is China’s inviolable boundaries. Nor I ever intends to. I JUST RESPECT THOSE INVIOLABLE BOUNDARIES inside China. It is the same when I travel to Australia – for example, one cannot carry more than A$5,000 cash across customs check without declaration even for business purposes – whether I agree or NOT agree with this invioalable boundary DOES NOT MATTER!!

If you choose to violate those, it is your risks. And I am happy to leave it at that.

I only felt the resistance from this woman to be a real Singaporean.

She never mix around in spite of her large media coverage.

She is not the only olympic medalists in Singapore. The other Chinese winner doesn’t make so much noise.

Also, It is better to compare the media and the treatment that these players get in comparison with what the other imported Chinese players get in Australia/whatever that you mentioned. They are treated a lot better in Singapore.

To chip in into the sports debate, I am perfectly fine if an athlete happens to be living in a foreign country for several years, and he/she then takes up citizenship to represent the new country.

However, what Singapore is doing is to ACTIVELY seek out athletes from young, and entice them over with attractive remuneration and playing opportunities.

To me, this violates the spirit of the Olympics, and is more similar to the behavior of professional, money-making sports teams like those in the NBA or BPL.

At the end of the day, I wonder as a taxpayer: What is the purpose of spending so much money like this? So that we can win medals by BUYING talent? Would we really feel proud about it? So what if our LOCAL talents are not good enough and do not win medals? Does that make Singapore any worse?

I’ll like to end off by repeating fpc’s point that recruiting foreign talent does not necessarily raise the level of local athletes. And anyway, there are better ways of doing it.

And just because there are many countries in the world that buy talent does not mean that it is right and justifiable, and that Singapore should aspire to be like them.

  • Retired, Jobless and Poor:

Wow, how come this young FT can command a pay of SGD4000 a month ?. Must be a superwoman, a super worker. Is her job so specialized, so difficult that no local Sporean men or women can do?. This indicated that my earlier comment about many FT are now occupying middle management/executive positions in which Sporeans can do the job is not unfounded. Then again, with an open floodgate, obviously employers will prefer to employ FT as they are cheaper, hence can help them improve their bottomline.
Anyway, local born Sporeans have themselves to blame. Most are just too ..kiasu and kiasi.. to change the status-quo. Well Zhang YuanYuan must have embarrassed a quite a few of the top elites.

Have you ever wonder why our govt always choose to lump PRs together with citizens in their statistics? And why do PRs receive just as good deals, if not better ones, from our govt?

Is our govt bending over backwards to attract and please these PRs, who ultimately maintain their loyalty to their original country? Why are we currying their favor at the expense of local-born CITIZENS?

  • Flustered:

We’re cheap… that’s for sure. So desperate, its pathetic.

  • Ed:

Relax!!! Migration is common. How do you think there are more than 60% northern asian’s (a.k.a the chinese) in Singapore. It is due to migration hundreds of years ago. For a very long time the minorities like the Malays and Indians felt like second class citizens. Some still do. Racism is the worst I’ve experienced in Singapore. Its spoken under the breath by both chinese and non-chinese. We practice tolerance. But there is no respect here. We take false pride in our diversity but i’ve seen more racially diverse cities and they don’t have the ‘race’ field in their Identity cards. Why can’t we all be just Singaporeans. Why must we identify ourselves as malay or chinese or indians or made up races like Eurasians? We are just being territorial. Afraid our jobs are taken away and food eaten by foreigners. That is a very primal mindset. I say embrace migration. In fact, Singapore should also encourage Singaporeans to leave the country. See what is beyond our immigration lines. If the government facilitate this, the citizens will be much loyal. Locking up your resources is a very traditional way of prospering. Sharing is the way to go. Like the digital world. Only way to get big is to share. You can’t stop the human movement. It’s been happening since the the first man was around. We should welcome people with open arms, and support those who choose to leave. Only in serving one another, we are free. The only thing I’m pissed of about is that we know we are welcoming so many foreigners, why isn’t the government facilitating Private housing rental. The prices are sky rocketing and Landlords are going through such an ego-trip, its not funny. They are abusing this import boom. Prices doubled and some tripled. The government needs to facilitate it. Security deposits for rental shouldn’t go to landlords. It should be kept in a bank and earn some interest. They need to facilitate housing agents as well. They are earning ridiculous amounts of money for doing nothing. I am happy to discuss further improvements with any government official. Drop me an emaill. I just want Singapore to be a better place for locals and foreigners alike. It could be a much happier place.

    1. We are becoming richer.
    2. We are not producing enough babies
    3. Most upper middle class families are able to send their kids overseas, and these people may not come back, like how foreigners use us as a stepping stone, we are guilty of that too. How many Singaporeans living overseas do you know celebrate national day abroad or don’t even bother, whichever is worst, of course putting the locals there in our shoes.

It is obvious that the government needs a short-term, quick fix to this problem just to sustain the economy. We cannot have a country full of educated people who are not willing to do the dirty work, or a country without foreign expertise. And I guess these privileges are the government’s way of luring foreigners. Unpopular as it is, unless we suddenly find a hell load of oil underneath our grounds, I do not see any other way out of this short term problem.

Anyway, nothing wrong with showing loyalty to your homeland, at least they show it, not like some Singaporeans I know. Singapore has always been a stepping stone and the idea of a solid Singaporean race, nation, culture, identity whatever will not appear so soon, not in our lifetime at least. We are still young.

Yes jm you just hit the nail into the coffin.

Not many people out are as sharp and smart as you are. They think our government of 44 years are bumbbling fools.

This is no Lim Yew Hock and Christmas Island.

This is the PAP government who fought tooth and nail for the tiny Pedra Branca rock.

But some people have hidden agendas to Sink the pore and make is it poor.

  • shame:

Why a “child ” crying over PRC becoming Singapore PR? Everyone got a choice in life…if she or he chose to return to China..that her decision. No big deal.

Singapore history…most of our parent or ancestors are
mainly from China and India. So you can see the outcome of today Singapore. This result due to our parents’s “hunger” spirit to work very hard..sorry and sad that we do not see such “hunger” attitude in our young today as compared to PRC or Indian nationals…with so much hunger and taking up dual job to improve their lifes. Reckon they are the second wave of same migrants as our parent to move Singapore to another level…People is economy!!!..look at Japan..they lived by themselves and distance other prople from different cutlure in their society..so now too many old people..economy..going down. Singapore can not afford to be like Japan because we are only a small island and got nothing but lots of ” baby” crying out foul play lah.

  • Anonymous:

Shame, the problem in Japan is “stuffed-up” economy dating back to the 1987 market crash when they inflate their asset bubble only to burst a few years later.

If not for that, they would doing really fine. Their industries are very strong and they continue to invest globally for their future generation.

So you are right – IT IS THE ECONOMY. Just look at South Korea for comparison. We are a lost mob in a sea of turbulent change and determined to be blind and dumb on economic issues.

  • Time for Change:

jm on Tue, 6th Oct 2009 2:13 am

Singapore is facing a shortage of only 10,000 babies per year. Why do we have to bring in 200,000 foreigners a year. Use your brains if you have one.

The reason for trying to convert all those foreigners to new citizens is more than purely for economic reasons. Read the comments on TR more often and not only when ordered by your political masters and you will know the reason.

In the previous elections in 2006, the PAPies won only about 66 per cent of the votes cast. All it takes it just for 18 per cent of those voters to vote for the opposition and the PAPies would be out of a job. That is why they are rushing to bring in as many new citizens as possible before the next elections.

  • Time for Change:

One more thing jm or Betty Lim or whoever your are. Singaporeans don’t have to accept everything that the PAPies throw at us. We have an election coming up soon and we are going to vote for Change.

  • FreedoomofSpeech:

that is why u singaporean are liking this controversy!
do you ever imagine that maybe the goverment are giving you this controversy to ease you all from the FT problem,
but maybe the FT problem is planned also, as the PAP will never change until singapore is erased from the world map, because the goverment get the money from FT, for example FT who dun want to work for sg/nvr follow a contract have to pay more than the citizen and the extra money will go to the goverment(it makes sense so bad that the goverment will not let us go/ drop the FT policy) are you all dumb ????????

  • FreedoomofSpeech:

and for all of you that didnt know the cost of singaporean who pay for poly is 1k for foreigner is 6k = 5k go to the goverment, and the more 5 k he get more government will want to go to PAP cause get extra 5 k lol of course

  • FreedoomofSpeech:

you know i what i think you need to learn the power of money,
try go to indonesia and see the power of corruption, and i guarantee you, you will not stop haha, same as the government, who want to stop if they are getting money and power. they are not dumb dahh thats why they become pm cause they at least can give money to all the staff!!!!!!!!!

  • “Jiawei is currently in Beijing waiting to deliver her first child. It awaits to be seen if she will return to Singapore.”

Is it a baby boy? If it is, why must deliver at China? Afraid to have him serving the NS?

  • I think this is crap. A Singapore citizen can serve another country’s army/ military? If such thing doesn’t matter, can I show my loyalty to Indonesia as my family lineage are from there? After all, it’s nothing wrong to show my respect to my family history like this PRC does.

  • Boleh Blah: “Jiawei is currently in Beijing waiting to deliver her first child. It awaits to be seen if she will return to Singapore.”

According to law, if the boy is born in China, he is AUTOMATICALLY a China Citizen by birth, NOT a Sinkaporean. As such, he is NOT obligated to serve his NS unless he decides to take up Sinkapore Citizenship before he reaches the age of 18, which of course would be stupid.

However the baby boy/girl can still remain a China Citizen but reside and study in Sinkapore under a dependant pass considering how his/her PARENTS are so CONNECTED in Sinkapore.

If and by then after he passes 18, he can always apply for a PR, legally then avoiding his NS obligation. I would call this a smart move!

  • FreedoomofSpeech:

no if you are second generation or more you have to serve ns no matter how old are you?(or i think more than 30 then they will let you go)

  • Tired Citizen:

I agree with “Retired, Jobless and Poor”.
How can she be a foreign talent when she makes only 4000 a month?

This job should be given to our fellow Singaporeans who should be equally capable and could even be cheaper.

The government should review what constitutes a foreign talent, using salary as the sole benchmark, it should be at least 15k and above.

I think salary is a good benchmark because it is transparent. In the long run, companies have to consider their cost, if they keep overpaying these people, eventually they go out of business or they will relocate, or start hiring local Singaporeans.

Furthermore, those with 15k and above are likely to fall in the senior management roles whose duty is to guide the inexperienced junior Singaporeans. They are also more likely to buy a condominium instead of a HDB flat!

  • Ah Cow:

A great video from CCTV. Enjoy it and forget about the nonsensical comments that she is ungrateful and disloyal to Sinkapoor. She is a citizen of China and just a Sinkapoor PR so why should we feel that she owes Sinkapoor any loyalty or, for that matter, anything at all? Foreigners like her are here to study or work ie Sinkapoor is only a stepping stone for them. We take on this role gladly and “with our eyes wide open”, so we should not expect anything of or from them in return. Enjoy the video. It’s quite rare.

Now, if you want to criticize the garmen, that’s a different proposition…..

  • aygee:

There’s thousands of Singaporeans who are PR in other countries, earning an honest living, yet proud to be Singaporeans.

What i question is how come she gets a pink IC.

and please recall – it wasnt long ago that Gong Li, a high-profile and beloved Chinese actress, gave up her citizenship to be a full-pleged Singaporean. Many Chinese nationals weren’t too happy about that.

  • excellent:

I feel it sets an excellent example for those “fellow Singaporeans” who hold “Singapore Passports”, but work globally and live a much better life than us here in Singapore.

If those “guys” could come back whenever Singapore needs it, we should thank this Chinese girl who sets such an good example for them.

  • Anonymous:

excellent, with the current social-economic and political climate prevailing in Singapore, which Singaporeans working and living happily abroad will come back to serve this country when it is in need or otherwise???

As it is already 80% of our scholars won’t return including children from the elite portion of society. They are NOT BOTH BLIND AND STUPID.

It’s really sad. To migrate to another country or wait to be overwhelmed and become the minority in our own land? I hope the government wakes up to our valid concerns soon and set things right again before it’s too late to u-turn.

  • spencer:

It is very common for all people who come to Singapore to work, award a PR by the same country…..everywhere in the world is the same….but that our Singapore goverment are genious and smart to attract such ‘talent’ until they are prepared to go back to thier mother country…in the meantime you work for Singaporean..but believe it that all such Chian woman can be found in Gelang…..so lets enjoy their hospilitality and service while they are here….sorry Singapore woman….i meant no offence to you’all….but this Chinese ladies in the militant of Bejing now….is a disgrace to yourself and your family and worst ..to your mother-land!….what u did in Singapore….nobody in your mother land nor your family knows what u have done discreetly proud to yourself……

As a foreigner who has been living in SG for quite some time now, i started changing my mind about it and now observing its true problems. Thanks to TR website… at first i didn’t understand why there was large exodus of bright Singaporeans looking for greener pastures, why sgeans were complaining about basic necessities like HDB and now i do… we expats don’t feel your pain because we draw good salaries and have no commitments as you do… as an alien i hear you guys.. this is your land and your gahmen should be looking after you… i see elders unable to afford complex health care due to aging, unable to afford designer drugs as those shit drugs from poly wouldn’t work… some counting their savings hoping to die sooner without misery… some collecting cans just to get by… i don’t even want to go into carton boxes… and all that misery at the end for working for 30+ years for this country? if this were my country i’d feel the same and leave asap to avoid spending my retirement in misery, begging councils and poverty..HDB is supposed to be working for you all natural born citizens ensuring you all have a roof over your heads and not money minting machines… theirs and ministers’ salaries are paid by your hard earned money… selling HDB to PRs is a very wrong move… unless PRs marry local citizens hence creating closer bond with the country… even in that case locals who got married must retain their names for the flat…
trust me almost all my colleagues took up PRs just to get off this “island” as soon as they can and they don’t give a shit what happens to it or its citizens… but you all can do something: stand up and start voicing out…

P.S: whoever owns this website, you’re doing great service to your community pls keep it alive and keep educating your fellow sgeans…

wow suddenly everyone can feel what it takes to be a left out minority who has lost to the majority ,well as long you can speak chinese in singapore you will be upper class , our govn loves foreign talent,it does not matter if you are good or not as long you are not local citizen ,whether we serve the country or not we will surely serve you(foreign talent). No matter how talented they can be ,its the citizens that has to make it happen , good day suckers……….

  • We are the BOSS:

Zhang Yuan Yuan done nothing wrong,… It’s our well paid government that are on the wrong side of the track.
I’m a Singaporean but have been staying in Beijing for the past 16 years… why?.. because when I graduate from this Chinese school in the 80’s, I was branded as “chinese helicopter” then and couldn’t get a fair job in the market. You know why… because our government has always using English to block normal citizen like us or the elder generation to get involve with the politic. If you will lucky to view their parliament meetings, most of the time, ministers will use their bombastic english to explain their new policies. By doing so, lots of citizen will understand part of it and just keep quiet… or they can only voice out in the coffee shop.
Even as a ture blood Singaporean, I don’t feel any belonging here… I sing the anthem in Malay which I forget what the exact meaning is… so why blame Yuan Yaun…

  • super:

There is nothing wrong with Zhang YY declaring her loyalty to China. I am a PR in Australia and deep inside me, Singapore is still my home. Singapore is a relatively young nation and I could see the ppl are not used to the inflow of immigrant to serve Singapore for economic reason. Australia has a huge population of immigrant, the result of delibrate gahmen policy to meet their economic growth demand. These migrant may apply for PR dependant on meeting the criteria, and some may stay on further to become Aus citizen, some may hold dual citizenship. I have Singaporean friends who are holding dual citizenship too. Every country is luring foreigners (talent or non-talent) to work, live or eventually stay. The significant difference between Aus and Sing is that the former has a strong workforce Union to fight/protect the interest of true blood Aus labor. In Singapore, the union is quasi or even full government run agency. Coupled with no minimum wage cap policy, it leaves the low-income singaporean simply with no protection at all. The idea of an absolute gahmen to run Singapore is obsolete and gradually has to give way to more opposition. If gahmen is still not opening up/accepting the reality, the frustration will soon translate into negative polling result.

  • it's-sickening:

I do understand the PAP’s stand of wanting more immigrants, foreign talents, foreign labour to make up for our declining population. However, PAP went overboard by granting so many PRs so haphazardly and freely. It’s sickening, and we Singaporeans are not given enough breathing space to adjust ourselves. PAP’s way of doing things is autocratic, and we citizens are just bring forced to gulp everything down. PAP should not be so overly ambitious, trying to solve this decling population problem quickly just by granting more PRs to foreigners. PAP saw Japan’s decling population, get uptight, figure that this trend will jeopardize our economy, and thus want to solve this problem before it becomes to be like Japan. However, PAP forgot that this is not Mathematics, there is no fast solution such that you can just add or subtract to achieve your balanced equation. It’s not just the population numbers that is involved. There is a lot more to take into consideration. Why do we Singaporeans not want to give birth? Why do we want to immigrate? Why are we so unsatisfied? Why do we grumble and complain?
It’s a continuous journey to solve and tackle these problems, there is no just once-and-for-all solution. PAP should not aim for one-and-for-all solution. We are human beings, as long as there is people, there is bound to be grouses. Instead of just using more PRs for a one-stop solution, PAP should delve deeper and think of a long term solution, one that encourages Singaporeans to give birth, and not ‘buy’ / ‘import’ for convenience sake.

  • Anonymous:

It is globalisation, we can keep RECYCLING foreign talent and foreign labour in general and ACHIEVE the same economic outcome from a higher population base WITHOUT INCREASING OUR CITIZENRY AND WITHOUT THE BURDEN OF ADJUSTMENT OF HIGH HDB PRICES, PERMANENT PRESSURE ON TRANSPORT, INFRASTRUCTURE, AND FINANCIAL BURDEN OF SUPPORTING THEM IN ECONOMIC CRISIS.

MUCH LOWER RISKS BY JUST FINE-TUNING PEP, WP to bring in foreigners to our workplace only as necessary and urgently needed AND NOT THE INSANITY THE PR ROUTE adding UNNECESSARY risks and destroying the livelihoods of so many Singaporeans.

WITH GLOBALISATION AND WORKERS EVERYWHERE ON THE MOVE GLOBALLY, this can easily be achieved easier than what the Saudi Arabia and UAE have been doing for decades successfully.

  • Anonymous:

….this can easily be achieved easier than what the Saudi Arabia and UAE have been doing for decades successfully…..

    should read as

this can easily be achieved easier than GIVING UNLIMITED PRs which is what the Saudi Arabia and UAE have been doing for decades successfully

  • Zhang Yuan Yuan, a China PRC citizne, had studied in Singapore for 5 years and have landed a lucrative job in a Multi-National Company (MNC) here… HAHA! that is reminiscent of tons of PRCs in the labs of NUS. Well, so wat? We still continue to pay for their research scholarship from taxpayers money hoping that at least one or two miserable ones would stay and contribute, but truth is… Anyway, labs in NUS engineering are are all mini chinatown… just look at the websites…
