I hope ShowNearby lives up to its promise of employing Spore citizens first. That is, screen all qualified Spore citizens first and if they pass the final round make an offer that both parties will accept.

Hope this is NOT a lame excuse to cash in on free advert and go straight for PRs.

Wish all qualified Spore citizens who apply the best and hope you get the job!

Good. I think as early start up they ought to employ locals first because they need to hit a certain amount of quota.

    Support LOCALS!!!!!

I saw Tiger Airways advert. I hope they also hire locals only. Maybe “exchange” pilots from SIA since they are related.

  • Since this is a new community service offered by TR for Sinkaporeans, it would be good for those who had gone for the interview to port their experience so that TR and readers can gauge and determine if the offers being put up are genuine and also if the free service offered by TR have been abused.

  • Yeap! I hope those who have applied will contribute their comments so that people will know when the goodwill is being abused.

I have some quality applications so far and have scheduled to interview them personally!

    Hopefully it works out!

    And yes, LOCALS first! =)

Thanks to TR for its help in casting a wider net. I must be honest and say that JS and JD has not been a good catch for companies looking to hire locals.

They usually get me tons (and i mean tons, like HUNDREDS!!!) of foreigners and very (VERY!!!) little Locals.

  • People Arrogant Party:

Hope to see more singaporeans advertsiements placed here to garner more traffic to the site. Only than, will we be able to attract more Singaporeans to alternative news and start changing this disastrous landscape. We must also understand people buy Shitty Times for job placement, without it, they have no readership. TR might want to consider having recruitment pages and charge a token fee (lower than those of agents) on company who successfully found a Singaporans employee. However, lower income earners job can be waived from such fees as to encourage more employers to tap this site to cut cost instead of paying hefty sum to ST or recruitment agents.

    To Douglas Gan
    Shownearby

Re your above post. Although I do not have any of the skill sets you specified, I feel you have done a GREAT job to include Spore citizens first. Spore needs more like minded employers like you!

As the saying goes, look after your own people first & the rest will follow, in this case “house” symbolizes Spore the country & its people and aspirations.

You are indeed an inspiration Douglas Gan and many best wishes for a very profitable road ahead for your company and a labor force of Spore citizens dedicated to your company’s mission to propel it along!

  • lalaland: Thank u! ShowNearby is just doing our bid to make sure Singapore will have its own “Google”.

We need all the help we can get from like-minded people like TR and Singaporeans who believe they can make a difference.

We tried to make a video to shout out internationally a while back, but the response was poor.

Here’s the video if you’re interested:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hfb9tolePkU

The Germans / Chinese / Brunei / Malaysians / Indonesians guys we got were actually interns who flew to Singapore at their own costs to work in our dynamic environment!

Let’s hope Singaporeans do not fail us! We are having our very first interview with a Singaporean who applied from TR tomorrow noon!

    *cheers*

Hey Douglas, any language barriers for your job applicants like DFS. I have stopped buying from them anymore BTW coz I find their reasoning of employing Mandarin Speakers only to cater to 50% of PRC customers. Well how abt the other 50%??? I am surprised that TR has not taken up this strange pandering to PRCs.
