Lee Kuan Yew: Singaporeans must be “daft” if they cast protest vote against PAP over rising HDB flat prices
Written by Our Correspondent
After being called “lesser mortals”, “sheep” and “donkeys” by PAP leaders and acolytes, Singaporeans now have another new “label” coined for them by Singapore’s octogenarian leader Lee Kuan Yew – “daft”, meaning foolish, simple, stupid or insane.
Speaking at a dialogue during a housing conference, Lee called Singaporeans “daft” if they were to cast a protest vote against the PAP over the rising prices of HDB flats.
[Straits Times, 28 January 2010]
He chided Singaporeans for lamenting the rising flat prices as they “ought to understand that the government sells them at a subsidized price, below market rate, so that they can own an asset that will appreciate in value over the years.”
Lee had earlier described Singaporeans as “champion grumblers” in an interview with the National Geographic magazine.
The Straits Times reported yesterday that the opposition is gunning for Tampines GRC led by National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan in the next general election to capitalize on public anger towards the sky-rocketing prices of HDB flats.
Lee used his usual scare-mongering tactics and warned that “if Mr Mah loses to the opposition, Singaporeans better sell their flats fast as they would no longer be of any value.”
The rising prices of HDB flats have become a contentious issue among Singaporeans in recent weeks together with the issue of immigration and foreign talent.
More than 85 per cent of Singapore’s population live in HDB flats built by the government. While they are affordable in the 1980s and 1990s, they are increasingly being priced out of reach for ordinary Singaporeans.
In 2009, prices of resale flats rise by 8.2 per cent though Singapore was mired in recession. The prices are popped up artificially by a limited supply of new flats and rising demand attributed to the relentless influx of foreigners into Singapore.
Only slightly more than 11,000 new flats were built between the years 2006 – 2008 when there were over 90,000 PRs and 20,000 new citizens alone in 2008:

[Source: HDB Financial Report 2008/2009]
Below is a graph illustrating how the rise in the prices of resale flats coincides with the rise in the number of foreigners in Singapore between the years 2000 and 2008, courtesy of Kojakbt, the moderator of 3in1kopitiam:

Due to the ruling party’s liberal immigration policy, foreigners now made up 36 per cent of Singapore’s population, up from 14 per cent in 1990.
As PRs are allowed to purchase resale HDB flats in Singapore, their increasing numbers help to keep the prices up. Propnex CEO Mohamad Ismail told Straits Times in an interview a few weeks ago that PRs make up 20 per cent of the buyers in the resale markets. Other real estate agencies such as ERA and C&H quoted higher figures of 40 and 50 per cent respectively.
Some PRs “spoil” the market by over-paying for resale HDB flats. An Indonesia PR forked out a hefty $653,000 for a 4-room resale flat in Queenstown when he could well afford a private condominium.
Since the government has the sole monopoly over the public housing market, it is in a position to adjust the prices of HDB flats. However, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong revealed yesterday that his government “does not have control ovver the prices of resale flats.”
During a speech made at a gala dinner to celebrate HDB’s 50th anniversary, PM Lee reiterated that his government is “committed” to keeping HDB flats “affordable” without elaborating more on how he is going to achieve his goal.
“These resale prices are set by individual households who transact flats on a willing buyer, willing seller basis, and are affected by movements and sentiments in the wider economy, including the private property market. Hence, resale prices of HDB flats will fluctuate from year to year,” he explained.
The “philosophy” of giving citizens an asset that will grow in value and give them a stake in the country was a recurring message in the 60-minute dialogue.
For HDB flats to “grow” in values, prices must continue on an upward curve indefinitely which is impossible as the wages of Singaporeans have not been catching up with the rise in prices.
Lee seems to forget that Singapore is heavily dependent on the global economy and any “shocks” to the global financial system will lead to an exodus of foreigners out of Singapore, precipitating a crash in the property market with disastrous consequences for ordinary Singaporeans who have paid so much money for them.
Singaporeans must remember clearly what Lee said about them – that we are “daft” if we were to vote for the opposition. Let us show Lee and his PAP how “daft” we can be come election day.

The day when these Ministers increased their salaries. Is the day Singaporeans respect for them are all gone.
We no longer listen to their craps threats. Why don’t they just shut up?
wah liew.. like tat oso can ah.. he might as well say if ruling party dun haf the 66% spore will chui… then go back as a fishing village..
‘NO HORSE RUN’ ……………
Hey, I migrated am I still consider a daft?
Oh , sorry, I was branded a traitor already!
he is right about rental subsidy. Any form of subsidy only serve to distort the market and make people less independant. In include subsidy in ployclinic. Please remove all form of subsidies and only give help directly to the people who really needs it.
Did the old pig know that the flats in sengkang didn’t appreciate much in value compared with CPF rate?
I bet you if prices stay stable, S’poreans will end up with both a flat and monies for retirement.
This old man is getting senile.
Every thing the sickening MBT say, he also believe.
in land scarce singapore, a HDB flat should be viewed as having a roof over our head rather than an investment tool.
all that crap about generating wealth thru HDB flats is a facade to cover up their failed policies that lead to today’s housing woes.
“daft”, i will be, come election day.
MM had earlier described Singaporeans as “champion grumblers” in an interview with the National Geographic magazine.
Soon he will know Sinagporeans not just grumble!!
It is a very dangerous idea, in my humble opinion, to pitch HDB flats as an investment. As TR pointed out, the large percentage of FTs and PRs in our midst might exit en-masse in an unforseen global crisis leading to a collapse of HDB prices after the fashion of the housing crisis in the USA recently.
Of course there are others who feel HDB flats can be an investment – they are mainly those who are the richer ones amongst Singaporeans who can afford alternative private accommodation. for the the average Singaporean, the HDB flat is just a roof over their heads, a nesting place for their family.
Incidentally, it appears the govt is caught by surprise over this issue of rising costs of HDBs and FTs issue. So many contradictory statements. It is a symptom of being too top heavy – 1MM, 1SM, 1 PM, 2 DPMs…. frankly as a commoner, I don’t really know what there roles are too. Like they say, everybody’s job becomes nobody’s job. Yesterday the PM said the govt cannot control the prices of resale HDBs, today the MM said the resale to PRs may be capped by quota. Whats happening and who is running the show?
I do not think the vote to the opposition is for just the rising cost of the HDB issue , but many other shitty policy and things that the PAP done since the last election.
rising GST , FT policy , ERP etc ..
He can talk what he want, Singapore should be for Singaporeans.
well, might as well be a ‘daft’ and struggle like a mad dog like slave under their ruling.

WHERE IN THE WORLD CAN YOU FIND IN THE VISION AND STATEMENT OF HDB ABOUT THEIR ROLE IN HELPING SINGAPOREANS IN “OWNING an asset that will appreciate in value over the years.” ???
“if Mr Mah loses to the opposition, Singaporeans better sell their flats fast as they would no longer be of any value.”
How can that be?
Even if Mr. Mah loses to the opposition, we still have plenty from PRs or maybe Singaporeans (according to our Law Minister K Shanmugam’s “hunch”) to continue driving the prices up.
Don’t worry, I am sure regardless if Mr. Mah loses to the opposition or not, PAP will continue inviting these FTs in to drive the HDB flats prices higher.
And seriously, I really don’t think Mr. Mah is so influential that without him our flats will be valueless because our PM has just stated “Govt does not have control over prices of resale flats”, isn’t it?
Irony.
There is a need to set minimum wage for PMETs, skilled workers etc. Also the restoration of CPF for those on employment pass & work permits plus adjusting PR CPF contribution to be the same as those of Spore citizen.
Anyway, HDB flats are governed by supply & demand and prices of raw materials. To say outright that prices of HDB flats will fall overnight if an another political party gets voted in other than the PAP is IRRESPONSIBLE & RUMOUR MONGERING.
There are many other factors controlling the prices of HDB flats its not as simplistic as the senile old man has pointed out.
The only way to prove one is DAFT or not for a Spore citizen is to vote for change & see for yourself how Spore can be governed in a different way. If the majority belongs to just one major political party, you will not see changes.
But if you are willing to go for the “SO BE IT” challenge, then do the right thing & vote for other political parties to change the status quo becos they represent you in Parliament to challenge the PAP.
Hopefully TR could bring on MM takes on lowering foreign intake and discussed in totality as MM is the biggest ammunition the ruling party has.
His words are powerful and can influence many people and trigger a change of mind on how to vote. It is no denying. He is a grandmaster and a people mover, used and tried for generations.
Irregardless of how much the odd is against them, this one man can change things and shift poll with his opinion. What he says in one word, we require thousands to drown his one word, it is definitely a daunting task.
Looking at Mah Bow Tan, tsk tsk tsk, can he still hold his head up high after this. He is practically begging the grandmaster help to stay in office. “Thankyou grandmaster without you scaring those daft Singaporean, guess who will be gone and no longer able to continue earning that million dollars salary.” so say in thought. The grandmaster says Mah deserved to be sacked but then use his usual scare tactic again. Is Singaporean so daft to be voting PAP once again after all bad experience. Nice try the greatest salesman of the century.
If we are daft, so be it, it is better than to be so gullible and continue to be lead by the nose for five more years.
@ dunbeanidiot on Thu, 28th Jan 2010 10:25 am
Very good point. If govt have no control, then MBT is useless. And our HDB value will still be subject to open market influence of willing buyer willing seller.
HDB considering imposing a quota on PRs in resale flats
——————————————–
SINGAPORE: The Housing & Development Board (HDB) is considering imposing a quota on Permanent Residents buying resale HDB flats. This could be done in the same way that racial quotas are imposed to prevent ethnic enclaves.
The issue came up in a dialogue session on public housing with Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew where questions on affordability and aspirations were brought up.
Public housing has come a long way from where it started 50 years ago. Still, issues remain. This includes how foreigners are perceived to affect pricing of flats.
Mr Lee said over the next five years, the intake of foreigners will slow down but that meant Singaporeans would have to increase their productivity.
Going further, dialogue moderator Professor Tommy Koh asked if more could be done to integrate those already here, in much the same way that the Ethnic Integration Policy was introduced in 1989 in public housing estates to get races mingling.
MM Lee said: “Could the same approach be adopted towards integrating new Singaporeans? We are not allowing new Singaporeans whether from China, India, Malaysia or whatever to congregate in the same tower blocks which they are already beginning to do. They buy second hand flats and they congregate. So we have a record of how many new citizens living where and we keep their numbers dispersed. It’s a very valuable tool of communal harmony.”
HDB later clarified that a quota policy on PRs for resale flats was being considered.
One other issue that came up during the dialogue is that of affordability which has come up repeatedly. One suggestion was to have HDB provide more rental housing units.
MM Lee said: ‘I completely disagree with that policy. It will lead us into all kinds of problems. You are getting a dependency group – dependent on the government on constant subsidies, whereas our philosophy is ‘I give you this asset, I will increase the value of the asset as the economy grows but it is yours and you look after it. And we do not have run down public housing like other countries which are rental.’”
Mr Lee was also asked for his take on a recent media report that at least three opposition parties were eyeing National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan’s ward with the aim of making public housing affordability an election issue.
He explained: “What is affordabilty? From the point of view of the buyer? And the government that is subsidising you? The government has to price it at a level that is fair to the revenue it is collecting and fair to the individual, not only the present buyer but past and future buyers. If Mr Mah is unable to defend himself, he deserves to lose.
“No country in the world has given its citizens and families an asset as valuable as what we have given every family here. And if you say that policy is at fault, you must be daft.”
Mr Lee was speaking before some 500 delegates from 20 countries at a housing conference. – CNA/vm
The Grand Master of all the Million Dollars Minister is talking Rubbish again. Do not listen to him anymore, go ahead and vote for the Opposition Party.
If the people are not happy with certain policies and had been voicing their concerns, and yet the PAP continue to insist they are right, is there any other avenue to get the message across ? It is not a protest vote. It is a vote against the PAP policies and their management of the country’s future.
And since when MBT become so powerful that should he be voted out, HDB flats will become worthless ? Isn’t this a little too far-fetched. What it makes even more ludicrous, it come from the mouth of a senior politician of international stature. But then again, this is nothing new as the PAP is famed for its politics of fear.
Just out of curiosity, will HDB prices collapse if MBT were to retire or transferred to another ministry ? Looks like MBT will be “hentak kaki” at MND.
This old man is tired of living. He is now starting to dig his own grave. The other PAP leaders are helping him dig. The grave should be complete by the next election.
If i were him, i would step down graciously and engage in some noble cause like charity or education and in this way he might improve the standing of the PAP indirectly.
He is becoming a liability in the war for votes, ironically his subjects think otherwise, putting him as “value adding”.
Let him be. history will judge all.
Does this mean that Minister Mah is adding more value to Singapore than MM Lee himself?
Singapore is slowly but surely going to become the Dubai of the East. Let’s just wait for something to happen and we will see all the foreigners fleeting on the first flight.
vote for change and vote wisely to prevent that from happening. Singapore for Singaporeans.
Honestly, how many of you think the old pig is really working for singaporeans or for himself.
Singaporeans are champion dafts now
If we make the “daft” vote, it will not only be of HDB issues. Its a whole bundle of issues. Its being built up over the years and had being festering.
Well said Mr Lee. Another highly intelligent observation!
how can we ever have faith in him again for all the mismangement has has done like the GIC losses, hospitals bills escalating and beds bursting at the seams, terrorist escaping from singapore detention prison, embassy murderer from romania escaping, suicide cases in NTU increasing .
oh boy so much more sub-standard performances from his team. we need some fresh air,MM. your team is passe.
as for Mr Mah, go back home and indulge in your hobby of mahjong . your face irritates many.
Senile is dangerous when the afflicted does not even know about it…
If MBT lost Tampines, I will quickly sell my flats and wait for the price to fall until rock bottom then I buy back. Then after, we let MBT win back Tampines again then our HDB flat value will climb up again.
intelligent observation?
if everyone starts selling their flats, the prices will plunge.
a self fulfilling prophesy.
that’s asking for trouble.
The old pig is really getting senile.
no wonder gic lost so much monies.
Is he bringing us to the grave with him?
I think anybody from the street can do better than MBT. He is the destroyer of hopes and anything of historical value. He tore down our beloved National Library so that he can reach MM’s house faster. He doesn’t recognise the value of Singapore’s history if it was staring right in front of him. Why is he still around? Let’s see how he feels when he becomes part of our forgotten history.
At least for most active netizens, his threats only ring hollow.
Well if you consider having 2 Masters degrees and running a fairly successful business as “daft”, then yes, I am daft…but I’m gunning for opposition anyway!
remember what the old pig said about obama.
obama was eventually voted in.
Give him,LHL, MBT and WKS the landslide in the next election.
Let us have some fun watching them digging themselves out of the overburden of rubble.
We shall have the last laugh of “who” got it all “wrong”
The right policy for Singaporean is to vote the PAP out, as this government has implemented too many erroneous policies that caused much suffering to the native peoples.
Nonsense.
The higher the HDB price, the higher the FIXED DEBT (30years loan, 40 years loan, 50 years loan, etc) of every generation of local born Singaporean. Slog whole life just to pay off housing without much for retirement & other usage (plus an uncertain, rocky economy that lead to job retrenchment, restructuring and salary freeze or reduction every 3-4 years)?
Who are the “winners” for high, rising HDB price?
Banks, HDB, Lawyers, Property Agents, etc.
Why don’t they have policies that help to lower our DEBT (lower cost of living), and put more $ (wage increase, interest increase) into our bank?
ONLY the FTs are afraid the housing are going down, as many singaporean they need to stay in, not like those FTs , they buy and sell, they are so welcome by the PAP party.
THE FTs are going to lose money, let the opposition win this election. MMlee HAVE LOSE HIS MAGIC IN SINGAPOREAN.
I was daft to actually believed “stop at 2″ policy back in the 70’s will benefit singaporeans…
I was daft to believe that the “foreign talents” was to create jobs for singaporeans…
I was daft to believe that the increase in GST was to help the poor…
I was daft to believe…(fill in the blanks)
MM Lee never fails to surprise us with his good English !!
that is why God let him have singapore..
it is God’s will to put MM Lee in charge of singapore..
How can you say ‘no’ to heaven’s will ?
LKY is an aristocrat, same as the rest of the PAP ministers. Therefore they can NEVER comprehend the common folks. He cheated the countrymen, they voted him in as the 1st PM and now these old folks can’t even get jobs at Mcdonalds losing them to PRCs and FTs! Our old folks are the nation builders, without them you think PAP can achieve what we have today? Lest we nor forget the poor folks who help him build the country. Today he only preaches survival of the fittest, so if Singaporeans are lazy then we’ll use foreigners. Tell me honestly, how to preach patriotism and serving NS if you can’t even take care of the people. Today Singapore is a first world nation, bloody rich, but it NEVER takes care of its people unlike the rest of the developed world. So its not worth fighting the course for PAP. Ask them to fly kite now we need reform!!!
PROTEST VOTE
On the contrary, if Mr Mah loses, we can finally put an end to this asset inflation madness caused by PAP’s “market subsidy” policy!
From bro KiwiBird7 on 3in1kopitiam:
FALLACY OF ENJOYING HIGH HDB prices
1. So WHAT if the price rises? If you sell your flat to earn the profit where would you stay? Other property prices will also rise in tandem to cancel out your ‘profits’ when you buy another house to stay in without sacrificing the same standard of living.
2. Your 99yr leased HDB flat value would eventually depreciate as it’s 99 yr lease nears expiry because no bank/financial institution would provide and loans to your potential buyers for your near expiring leased HDB flat especially if you had bought a resale HDB flat in a matured estate at high prices.
3. Rising HDB flat values are an ingenious way of ‘eating’ up the CPF cash of your children; the next generation. With heavy govt losses in overseas investments, the govt won’t have to pay out so much CPF cash to your children when they retire (if retirement is even possible; with HDB 30 yr loans or longer by then) because almost their entire CPF money is paid to the HDB for the overpriced flat.
4. Even worse, there is NO GUARANTEE that the greedy PAP govt won’t slap a capital gains tax on profits gained from sale of HDB flats in the future. If the PAP can keep changing the goalposts on CPF, they can do anything.
the old fart is not even worth commenting on. second world war japanese running dog….
What makes you pple think the prices will fall if MBT lost Tampines?Maybe the prices may increase twofold due to improvement in sentiments and the feel good factor.
It just shows how out of touch our old man has become.
Daft? think its the other way, we will be total idiots to continue to vote for PAP falling on your message that Singapore will collapse as the opposition will squander away our reserves should they come in.
Didnt GIC including Temasek lost multi Billions of our reserves under the watchful eyes of its Chairman?
You still think you are talking to Singaporeans in the 70s or 80s, we are now much more well informed and better educated better able to know we are looking at a Big Bad Wolf when we see one.
PAP did do a lot of good but your over focus on making money and paying the elite is definitely worn out the goodwill you have built up in the past. The recent boo boos clearly shows that it is a time for change. Either you change your policies and the way you treat the citizens or you may be changed by the citizens. Repent and take actions now before its too late.
“No country in the world has given its citizens and families an asset as valuable as what we have given every family here. And if you say that policy is at fault, you must be daft.”
When I drove up to M’sia and see the prices of nice landed and condo homes at half the price of our 3-room HDB flat, I feel jealous. When I went to US, UK and Australia and see their large houses at the price of our 4-5 room HDB flats, I get even more jealous.
Of course they have more land that Spore. But that does’nt mean the MM can boast the way he did in the above quote.
There is no way the familee/PAP can retire or quit at all. They have accummulated a great amount of shit and skeletons in the closet that CANNOT be exposed. To vote for the opposition is to expose them. I am sure Singaporean are not that “daft” to know that familee/PAP are buying time to “fix” the adversity by now.
i would say we are indeed daft to put the papayas in power for 50 years.
the old pig is trying to fool us again by trying to look reasonable.
My take:
1. those immigrants who are here will be forced to convert to singapore citizen soon to make up the numbers.
2. he says in 5 years there will be less Fts. The fact is he is asking us for another 5 more years for his million dollars son to make more monies. Then he can leave cabinet to relax. Should we give him another 5 years of easy time telling us about mee siam and stuff.
don’t give them time. MBT, GY, WKS needs to be out.
//kickatadpole
once mbt is out, he is never coming back.
the opposition should practice how to influence the people attending their election rally at the next GE.
everybody can read a prepared speech but the impact is different if you can get the crowd to shout slogan with you.
Many years ago, I remembered watching a documentary which had this snapshot showing lky at a election rally. He shouted “Merdeka” and the crowd followed in unison.
After all these years, I can still remember those images very clearly.
Having attended the opposition election rallies in the past, I find that the opposition candidates do not have this ability to influence the crowd. I believe that it can make a great different to swing votes.
What a recalcitrant !!!
LKY has waged war against the electorate.
Actually if Mah and the whole of the PAP gang don’t start losing seats in parliament, I will not just sell my flat, I will emigrate out of this ferking one party rule soon.
“if Mr Mah loses to the opposition, Singaporeans better sell their flats fast as they would no longer be of any value.”
- i don’t even have a chance to get a house till now, thanks to the lovely ballot system and affordable prices… so if the prices go dwn and ppl are selling, i tink i can benefit from it (lower prices, more choices)
So i shall choose to be “Daft”
As a chinese saying goes, “Never wash your dirty linel in public” Even if singaporean is what you describe, is there a need to make it public? Leader should educate not criticize, Thank you Sir
Remember this is the guy who lost to CST in PP and never dared step onto that turf again, inspite of all the weaponry that PAP deployed.
Do him another one and he will never be seen in HDB again.
Why is this old 87 year old man, coming to 90, even talking and appearing on the scene when he should not be around anymore?
Think. think, of the huge salary he is drawing every day, every month. It’s a waste of OUR money.
Do we really need this person talking down to us from on high?
Yes, we are draft. That is why you managed to stay in the political scene for so long. You think we will be draft forever? You have indeed woken us up this time round.
God Bless You
Let’s all be daft then.
Useless son who still needs his father to take shit for him. Which first world country will have a prime minister who completely lack any leadership qualities and let his father take all the blame for his incompetence ? Uniquely singapore.
We voted a world class goverment, and yet they resolve matters like fire fighting. When there is problem then try to resolve.
We need a goverment to have good foresight, by listening to the ground and analyzing, they should able to predict this is one issue cannot be miss. And yet they repeated this fire fighting style over and over again.
How can we trust such goverment anymore. VOTE THE PAP OUT!!!!! PLEASE, FOR THE SAKE OF OUR NEXT GENERATION.
sigh…….
“If Mr Mah loses to the opposition, Singaporeans better sell their flats fast as they would no longer be of any value.” MM Lee

Last time he even said lifts will not be repaired and helicopters will rescue you from rooftops.
Can the joker change his job to do stand-up comedy?

That is exactly what i will do.
Indian chief said that he has hunch that Sgporeans chasing up prices. Propnex chief said about 20% PR chasing resale flats, and other realtors known to have estimate 30-40%. Lets settle at 30%, a figure good enough in-between figure.
Lets have simpe logic no need masters in economics or PHDs in statistics. Its not a simple 20 or 40%. Its the PURCHASING POWER of this 30% that OUTBID the remaining 70% or so !!!
Wow also, old man wants us to believe 80-85% red dotters should be thankful to MBT. Since when our HDB housing is a OMO – MBT’s one-man-show…
Nothing last forever…things starts to smell after their expiry date…
Can you smell it?
I would rather be daft/ ungrateful/ stupid/ donkey/ sheep/ whatever than homeless

FYI, past GE has turned a few influential ones into fugitives liao!
Pit Mr Mah against Ms Lina Loh (Mr Chiam’s wife) at Potong Pasir!
The small dictator is farting again! It is sad to see a geriatric so well past his expiry date being reduced to name calling! The great international statesman is nothing than a bully, political gangter, WWII collaborator and ultimately a senile old man. We can see that they have nothing new to play with and they are still playing the old 1960s intimidation style politics. His message will be trumpeted as decree by our own version of Pravda. But we have to be careful as old injured predators can still be dangerous and I am wondering when really cornered will the old man be desperate enough to enact another operation coldstore? Martial law? He knows very well most Singaporeans are gearful of him and Papists and he knows that most are motivated by self interests. But he forgot that this time it is different because the gap between the rich and poor has widened since the last GE and the middle class has suffered much with the influx of immigrants and inceasingly crushing rise of cost of living. Who cares if our flats price will drop when many cannot even afford one or the supply of flats are so poor?
“Lee called Singaporeans “daft” if they were to cast a protest vote against the PAP over the rising prices of HDB flats.”
LKY got it completely wrong. It’s not about the rising HDB prices. It’s about kicking out one overpaid, incompetent, arrogant and good for nothing MBT.
@Richie on Thu, 28th Jan 2010 11:21 am
Then God better keep him alive forever… Possible?
Well guys! You’ve heard of the rock band, Def Leppard……
now watch out of the rock band I’m forming: Daft Donkeys
….thanks to Old Fart and Donkey How. So much inspiration!
Lee Kuan Yew, you dont waste time throwing smoke bomb and elay the inevitable. No matter how you delay the GE, it has to come 2011, whether you like it or not, unless you change the constitution and declare yourself an emperor with no need for any future GE.
If PAP is so whiter than white and clean, GE now or GE next year wont make a difference if you are so sure that the policies implemented are for the better good of Singaporeans.
The GE was planned for June and July this year, why the last minute change when you released that the YPAP have screwed badly? What are you afraid of since PAP won’t lose control of parliment even if they lose 2 GRC? Why must you delay the GE so that damage control can be arranged to ensure 90% victory?
ISD have already been instructed to profile every minister and opposition candidate, Election office instructed to redraw boundaries and carve out the area with the most number of elderly citizens as single seats, isn’t this the normal practise before the announcement of GE in the past, why the sudden delay if it wasn’t for the YPAP saga? WHat are you afraid of?
Come one Lee Kuan Yew, for once in your life, be a REAL MAN and fight your battle FAIR & SQUARE! Bring on the GE now and let Singaporeans show you the true meaning of ‘daft’.
You are merely delaying the inevitable and allowing your croonies to collect another year of millions, nothing will change one year from now and I will still vote for any opposition except the PAP.
First, he say if PAPaya lose, need to send in army
Then he say if PAPaya lose, HDB flat worthless.
Of course lah, if PAPaya lose, he and his monkeys will pack bag, leave Singapore, become FT in other people country. The rest of us, we go become Malaysians.
Singaporeans stop being a ‘daft’ and vote for the opposition so we can save millions every years without those redundant ministers positions.
Don’t be afraid, vote for change.
For most people who just have that one HDB flat that they occupy, it is not an investment but an item which they consume. In that case, the cheaper the better.
again chu zhe zhao…can I have something new
Can you feel the elections coming? Really a lot of last min work now…
PR Subsidy decreased by 10% – http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/1033660/1/.html

Why bother with doing all these just before elections when after elections u gonna mess it up and damage everything again?
This time I disagree with our founder father. If property prices in Tampines can drop so drastically because of one nationally mediocre and internationally unknown minister, who is the MP of Tampines, then be prepared for a worthless Singapore Dollar when the Minister Mentor surrenders his IC one day. This is only logical since MM is nationally known and internationally acclaimed.
How on earth did an intellectual person come to such a conclusion can only be attributed to an old senile mind that is no longer rational.
I have always been grateful to our founding fathers for giving us the opportunity of a better life and to an extent, I have succeeded. But to create fear and panic for the sake of political power is just not noble to say nothing of political maturity.
Perhaps it is time to cap a limit oo public office bearers for the sake of maintaining peace and stability in Singapore.
PAP is the only political party in the world that dares to call its electorate “DAFT” and still get voted into parliament (which proves its point that Singaporeans are “daft”).
No Subsidy! No Subsidy!
Reiterate over and over again. It has become a buzz word from the PAP. When the government rent out HDB, that is subsidy. Sell HDB it is also subsidy but they prefer to sell HDB.
Singapore long ago already know when government sell HDB there is no subsidy, even when the wool is no longer covering our eyes and we see clearly, they still tell us it is subsidy. Cheap theatric.
What’s so bad about subsidy? Find a way to tax the rich and successful and channel these money to subsidize those who are weaker economically, what is wrong with some subsidy. The way the rich and successful are protected by the PAP to ensure they live happily is more important than improving the live of the working people. The rich do not have to work and they can make tons of money just by investing. The average Joe got to slog day and night for the sake of making the economy tick. The end benefit the rich whose money grow like a tree that translate to lining the path to their home filled with gold and jewelry. So much money can’t they benefit the public who slog to make the Singapore economy grows continuously. Even if we don’t want to totally tax the extremely rich, we can also tax foreign workers benefiting in Singapore economy to help in subsidy.
Government should shoulder some responsibility such that should the economy weaken through their bad management or incompetency, they too will pay a price should they become unable to balance the subsidy. Even government should have spur in their hide if they want the public to continuously support them. A government that does not make the grade naturally lose the mandate of the people who once supported them.
Subsidy is not evil or bad, it is a strength that balance society between the rich and the not so rich.
I think it is good if the PM himself projects his views on such controversial topics as hdb prices and FTs issues. It is not good and not right for MM Lee to be seen as the leadman. Did’nt PM Lee win the last elections?
Once LKY is no more PM – protocol requires that he takes a back seat to the PM. Otherwise, he will be seen as overbearing and overstepping his role based on their father-son relationship.
Daft or not it is our right. He can have his own opinions of singaporeans but also have our own opinions about LEE Kuan Yew. Frank opinion whether he accept it or not. Oh yea, he wouldn’t want to hear it all. =)
While Singaporeans are making an effort to be BETTER, CHEAPER AND FASTER. PAP is not showing any sign of it and yet we see them as USELESS, EXPENSIVE AND SLOWER. If we really vote for a group of incompetent PAP for the next term, Singaporeans are indeed a daft. If PAP has been advocating practicality to self-serve themselves, it is also time for Singaporeans to show them what practicality mean by saving ourselves in voting them out. That will save a lot of monies in our country.

Quite frankly, I am observing this coming election to see whether there are any significant change in the political climate. I did not vote for PAP in the last election. If I see that my fellow Singaporeans are still apathetic to the pressing matters that affect all of us here in Singapore, I will begin my migration phase to another place. The problem is that LKY is still steering the ship and crafting the laws. He has presently said something that worried me. He cited that the real reason he brought the supposed foreigners and foreign talent in is to stretch and choke the present day laziness of our generation. He feels we have slackened. Hoping to have a decent home and what’s sufficient for a short stay on Earth is not accepted by him. He wants to squeeze us to be cheaper and faster. He pays himself million-dollar salaries for doing what? For telling you, how complacent you have turned out to be. He does not want to build a Singapore product like the Japs or Koreans or Swiss. He wants to leverage on the people. The people is his product. So he wants to retain Singapore’s prosperity the same way he got into politics. By squeezing every bit of juice he can from the people. Would you vote for someone who insults the same voter who voted him into power? I mean if Goh Chok Tong wants a gracious society, they need to stop playing dirty politics. The people have lived with these hypocrites and double-edged PAP tongues for 44 years. You gotta be kidding me if you can’t see through their hypocrisy and deception. They have NO MAXIMUM wage on their million-dollar salaries yet at the same time, they INSIST the lower-income Singaporeans NOT be given a minimum wage to decent living. What are you really voting for?”
1) Now I can’t vote the way I want now?
2) How else can I made my point?
3) So only smart people vote for PAP?
Guys, I believe that most of us here are young people. If you clearly the recent trends, more and more young people are growing to dislike the way Singapore is being run by our ruling party.
I used to love PAP when I was 10. I shook Goh Chok Tong’s hand. That was respect. But what they have been doing lately, is intolerable. I have lost all my respect, especially with the immigration laws. They have overlooked the importance of their people. I have asked my peers about the future of Singapore. Here’s their reply, “If I can move out, I will move out.”
Our current generation are better off leaving than to fight this endless war with the gahment. There’s no need for us to put in effort anymore. They feel strongly about their policies as they benefit the most from them. They will not change. They have no idea how us commoners or the new term – “dafts” are feeling. They have really neglected us this time. If we don’t vote for them, we get threatened. Ethically and morally speaking, it is not right, right?
Are we really bestowed the power of the people here? The point here is the ruling people will always get more. More produces greed. Greed spawns evil. I can only sigh at the future politics of SGP. =,=
politician promise is not a contract that is legally bind and no need even a single cents for guarantee. Voting any PAP or opposition does not helps anything if both can’t deliver. We pay quality and results but not promise or hopes. Unfortunately we have been paying too much real money with false hopes. Take a look at all the failure of delivery of promise by B.OBAMA. He can speaks until millions of people cry and touch but most seems forget “Actions speaks louder than Words”. If opposition fail to deliver by 6 months can we change, or can we keep changing? I recommend all readers to learn the fact the sovereignty is a globalized problem. Wherever you or your ancestor have migrated from is the result of the globalization consequences. If you are in 15 yrs above, I recommend you to read and check out from the Harvard politics expert opinion http://www.henryckliu.com/
Most Singaporeans have been fooled for more than 4 decades!
In other words we are fools. So it makes not much of a difference if we are called ‘daft’ untill the polling day!
After that see who is more ‘Daft’!
Rome was not made in one day! You think by just this HDB policy will make us ‘daft’? What about other issues? If your lackies have not fedback to you, then the spurs are not struck in their hides! You should use your whip to spur them on!!
So does that mean if MBT die tomorrow, singaporeans better sell their flats as they would no longer be of any value. So better sell and get out quickly. Scratch my head??
We have come to a stage where we will vote the oppositions if we see people selling mee siam with hum . This is how desparate we are for a change in ruling party . The current party just cannot make it . full stop ……
Let the daft singaporeans go for voting.
You will know who is daft.
Yeah, I’m going to be “daft” when I cast a protest vote against PAP over rising HDB flat prices. Old fogey can say whatever he wants, it’s not going to change anything to my well-being. The greatest loser will be himself.
Look like we have been taking all the shits. It’s time for Change !
hi there
1. i am just wondering what was or is hbd original mission : “home for the people” or what?
2. now is an investment! or aspiration!
3. honest, sinkies are some daft sheep, suck!
Sinkaporeans should petition the President to dissolve the parliment on a vote of no confidence so that GE can be called early.
Give the PAPies another year and Sinkapore will see another 1/4 million new Citizens which will dilute Sinkaporeans’ vote.
i met an odd job labourer today. he told me he went to MOM – the officer scolded him – `other people can do the job with this kind of salary, why you cannot??!!’. obviously a foreigner does not have to pay a lot of bills that sporeans pay daily through their noses. so that’s why we can’t survive on bucket-sweat salaries – they can.
then he told me if employer cheats him – go to CASE pay $50 to join and don’t bother MOM. But MOM will fight for foreign workers but not lowly educated poorer older Sporeans doing odd-jobs! go CASE
VOTE OUT THOSE WHITIER BUGGERS AND WE WILL HAVE “LESSER MORTAL” MINISTERS THAT ARE “CHEAPER ,BETTER AND FASTER” !
Yes, he is right, we are Champion Grumblers, we are Complain Champions…
At least our home is safe. Who can guarantee the Opposition can do a better job, can you ?
Our home is safe and sound here. And end of the day, this discussion here is about ‘Money’.
Just curious, who controls the land and its price through its very limited release for construction?
And who profits from those sales and respective forever increasing price of the land?
So subsidise with one hand but take away a much larger portion with the other?
lee kuan yew will be extremely daft to think that by threatening us with scare tactics, as the pap had done for years before, that somehow he could frighten us into voting for pap. we will show lee kuan yew the door come election day!
@ Sinkapore on Thu, 28th Jan 2010 4:51 pm
It may take 52 years for the President to have enough information before he can act on our petition.
Errr… or maybe for than 104 years or maybe, 156 years…
@ MenInBlue,
Can you feel the elections coming? Really a lot of last min work now…
PR Subsidy decreased by 10% – http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/1033660/1/.html
To provide better distinction between PR and citzens.
Why bother with doing all these just before elections when after elections u gonna mess it up and damage everything again?
=============
From another angle, this last minute work might get more PR to convert citizen and give the MIW more votes. “To provide better distinction between PR and citizen” is not their main target. More of these changes coming … two birds with one stone.
Quite frankly Singaporeans ARE REALLY daft………but NOT in the context of what MM Lee said.
They ARE daft for voting in useless Opposition – the likes of Chiam, Low & Sylvia, the last of whom got the cheek to say that she had 4 more years to ask questions during the initial period of this Parliament. And Low claimed to seek ACCOUNTABILITY, but when asked by PM Lee whether Home Affairs Minister Wong should be sacked for the Mas Selamat escape from the ISD detention centre at Whitley Road, he kept quiet………..all the talk of holding the PAP to account is just BS.
Yes, Singaporeans are daft to believe & trust the PAP for so long.
Just to add to this discussion on HDB prices going up being good for Singaporeans as claimed by MM, how could young couples buy such expensive HDB flats if their wages keep going down or not rise at all?
Remember our Ministers have told us that we should be CHEAPER, BETTER & FASTER?
There is only ONE way of being CHEAPER: that’s to REDUCE the people’s salaries.
Just vote for the Reform Party……..hope they could field more candidates & also the SDP.
You people deserve it. And could have been worse.
What a ‘DAFT’ it is indeed for our fellow countrymen to screw voters out of their jobs, their homes, their medical care, their limited recreation places and even robbing the citizens of their last possession, their dignity as true sons and daughters of the motherland?!!!..yeah,what a DAFT it is!!!
Never before has a nation of people and its’ hardearned reserves been ‘daftily’ squandered away by ‘dafty’ and haughty people who still have the cheeks to denigrate us publicly infront of foeigners as well as ointernationally.
WISDOM,wherer art thou?
Voters should note that every spoil vote favors the PAP; so vote opposition. Otherwise it will be another 5 years of misery and more talking down by the MIWs! Uniquely Singapore indeed!
GIC and Temasek lost a BOMB.
HDB prices sky rocketed and my CPF money being emptied out leaving nothing when I reach 55y. They don’t care.
They tell me, I cannot use this as protest vote but instead should sit quietly waiting to be slaughter.
After 45years, I finally come to my senses. Now, I know who to vote in next GE. Its my business.

/From another angle, this last minute work might get more PR to convert citizen and give the MIW more votes./
You could right. Another deception, double-talk.
Its time for change. we have enough.
To the OLD FART LKY :
You must be “daft” to think that we will believe what you say !!!
Never again will we trust you and your cronies again !! You sucked all our tax payers’ money into your own pockets and lost billions of our country’s reserves !!! Pui !!
To fellow citizens :
Let us VOTE PAP OUT and SAVE Singapore !!!
For Lee to make this statement “Daft”, he must be “Daft” himself.
Just only a MBT can make HDB prices fall?
Read on Asia1
<Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew: 'I was on an SIA flight coming <home and the air hostess who was serving me, I saw she had a <wedding ring, so I said, 'Any children?' She said, 'Not yet.' <I said, 'What are you waiting for?' She said, 'For my flat.' <So I said, 'Have you got one?' She said, 'Yes, I've got one <at Pinnacle@Duxton, on the 48th floor. And I got it on the <first booking.' (That's) when the price was lowest. So I Msaid, 'Well, remember that when voting comes.'
So what happens to those who bought their HDB now or later stage, where the prices are ridiculous jacked up by PRs? Is Lee going to say the same thing "remember that when voting comes."?
Why cant he just step down and keep his mouth shut? Too worry his son cant manage well? Or just too worried his daughter-in-law will make lose more $?
Many will prefer to have cheaper flat than MBT
Lower property prices is better for all including current flat owners. It will translate into
- lower cost of living
- you can buy or upgrade to bigger unit
- your future generations do not have to slave for the affordable 30 years loan
- better quantity of life
- more business for housing agent
- more money left to spend on other things
- lower transaction cost
- lower property tax
- lower insurance premium
We must be daft if we vote you again.
VOTE PAP OUT !!!!!!!!
VOTE PAP OUT !!!!!!!!
VOTE PAP OUT !!!!!!!!
TR needs to record all these quotes of LKY and remind voters again come election. Some stupid voters have short memory.
Also better translate into 4 languages and dialects so that elderly voters can know that their beloved LKY is calling them daft.
LKY is an overrated piece of fossil who simply refuses to STFU or stop siphoning taxpayers’ money for his paycheck.
Once again, we have the old man up to his usual Machiavellian fearmongering on the bad things that will happen to Singapore if/when the PAP is dethroned as the incumbent ruling party.
Heard it before in the last few elections. However, I’m still young, and hopefully I shall witness him kicking the bucket before the next GE.
The LKY cult of personality has been propped up long enough by revisionist historians, the mainstream media, sycophantic bureaucrats and brainwashed sheeple.
Did I read correctlty that MM said if MBT is not returned in the next general election, we will all lose the value of our flats(homes).
Is this not a threat to us warning us NOT to vote for the opposition.
How is it no one has picked him up on this? Or are they too afraid?
We know the lap dog ST cannot ask the question.
What MM is doing is putting the fear into the people.
What is the PAP afraid of.
They will still be the government but there will be a healthy opposition for the first time.
WE ALL KNOW WHAT WE HAVE TO DO.
Lesser mortals: PAPies & their Papa must be “daft” if they think that Singaporeans cast protest vote against the PAPies over rising HDB flat prices ONLY!!!
We want them out for depriving us of our jobs and giving them to the immigrants named Foreign Talents!
We want them out for depriving us a decent house to live without slogging till 80 years old!
We want them out for the numerous ERPs and GST hikes that have never made the traffic better!
We want them out for the rocketing cost of living!
We want them out for their yayapapaya attitude and denying any opposing voices!
We want them out for a education system that attempted to turn us into either conforming idiots or lesser mortals!
We want them out for losing billions of $$ through its puppet GIC, of which the losses could feed so many lesser mortals!
We want them out because they are drawing millions in salaries just by giving motherhood statements each day that any lesser mortals can make, but we may not even be drawing 10% of their salaries!
Finally, we just want them out no matter how they try to improve and sweet talk now, because we, lesser mortals know that these sweeties will turn to poison once the election is won by them again!
if they can lose billions, what’s to them when the citizens like to lose tens or hundreds of thousands in property. at least we are not so DAFT to sell at the lowest price instead of keeping the investment for “long term” as reiterated by so many clowns!
Calling all those who are unable to buy a subsidised flat from HDB or unable to ballot a unit of your choice for some reason or another, remember not to vote PAP at the next GE.
As LKY said ‘Well, remember that when voting comes.’
If the ruling party lost more than 50% this coming election which I think is quite possible this time, and if MM is still around, be shockingly prepared for the worst things this person can come up with, it will happen.
“So does that mean if MBT die tomorrow, singaporeans better sell their flats as they would no longer be of any value.”
If MBT and Old fart or any of Leegime assholes died anyday, that day should be declared as public holiday.
Daft or no daft, Singaporeans MUST KICK OUT THOSE FALSE GOD AND DEMI-GOD, OTHERWISE IT WILL BE THOSE BUGGERS THAT ARE GOING TO HAVE MORE GOOD YEARS AND GOLDEN PERIOD WHEREAS THE LESSER MORTALS ARE GOING TO HAVE MORE NIGHTMARE YEARS OF PAY AND PAY, INTIMIDATION, HUMILIATION AND MOCKING OF CITIZENS, AND HOPELESS PERIODS, ANOTHER UNIVERSE RECORD OF LOSING BILLIONS THAT CITIZENS HAVE THEMSELVES TO BEAR THE COST !!!!!
LET US NOT MAKE ANOTHER MISTAKE THAT THE NEXT GENERATION WILL HAVE TO SUFFER FOR IT. KICK OUT THOSE KANGAROOS AND SENT THEM BACK TO THE CAGED ZOO.
Looking at all the issues at stake and how the old man is still tinkering with a rocking ship, surely there must be an Obama within the PAP fold to stand up and say enough is enough and echo that famous quote “it’s time for change”.
So I say WILL OBAMA PLEASE STAND UP AND TAKE CHARGE. Kick the old man and his obsolete thinking out from our political system and cast aside his son (he may be good to do some menial tasks like tree planting, etc) because it is really time for change. Better to do that than let the electorate kick the whole PAP team out !
daft for the past 30+ yrs … enough is enough …
I will vote wisely …
If it is heaven’s will for LKY to continue his crap, then god must be senile or dead…..
#Darth Vader
Its not surprising when a power crazed person is being cornered by its own citizens will start uttering all sorts of rubbish so much so that he himself do not even know what he is talking about.
only a MAD MAN will call his fellow countryman a daft
only a MAD MAN will torture his political opponents with ISD
only a MAD MAN will call in the Army when he lost the Election
only a MAD MAN will talk rubbish
Its time for this MAD MAN to go to the MAD HOUSE at Hougang Ave 9 for a check up. Vote this MAD MAN and his Cronies out of the MAD Parliament before our Country become MAD with full of MAD Foreign Talent. Do you understand ? Mr Old Mad Fart!
//Darth Vader
why drag God into this when you could have cast your votes to the opposition.
He will die from a heart attack should WKS be voted out.
The other countries are not selling sand to us at the low prices ten years ago.
What makes you think PAP can satisfy all the housing needs in the near future if they keep taking in immigrants at the current rate?
Don’t count on it.
They have other priority and after the elections, they will forget what they say.
I do not understand why are we keeping someone who insults us regularly in power?
I think we are daft since 1959.
Power has gone over his brain. No cure @ this age!
We shouldn’t keep him from spending time with his grandchildren.
In fact the whole clan [Family, friends & Associates] should retire by the next election.
For all their hardwork … they “deserved it”
Now, I really hoped that MM will still be around actively in the next election. The fence standing Sinkies needed to be called names in order to vote ‘wisely’ or else they will go spineless again. I really hoped that he will not go quiet by then.
Thank you Mr. Lee.
So now we are daft eh?
If we really analyse what this lying old shit is doing,he is
actually using the same ruse Hitler used to manipulate and
deceive disgruntled germans in the 1930s,in order to gain the
votes which would eventually made him the Fuhrer.
Basically, what he did was to tell the german folks “Look,if
you don’t vote for me,the jews, the communists and whoever who
don’t share the Nazi ideologies will SCREW YOUR ASS!
So give me your votes, put your trust in me and I will restore
greatness to the german people and the motherland!
Of course,we all knew what happened next. So in essence,LKY
is using the element of FEAR to mindf**ck us Singaporeans into
thinking that if we give PAP another 5 years, the country
will prosper again, our lives will be wonderful and all will be
fine and dandy…WHICH IS UTTER BULL SHIT!!
So,for f**k sake, stop listening to this delusional piece of
shit and please brothers and sisters,VOTE THE PAP OUT!!
It may jolly well be the daftest thing to do but then again
WW2 probably wouldn’t have happen if those germans had been
daft.
The threats are getting more and more ridiculous. From Singapore will go down if PAP is not voted in, to your women will go to other countries to become maids, to army will be brought in in case of freak election, and now if Mr Mah loses to the opposition, Singaporeans better sell their flats fast as they would no longer be of any value??? Do these threats part of his “forecasting”?
There are many sheep (Animal Farm) who would like to repeat his threats over and over again to scaring themselves to vote for PAP. It is not healthy for the nation and its people to listen and believe them simply the fact that it is not true and it takes a lot of factors for these threats to become true.
Why am I learning so much insulting English from Harry Lee? Highfalutin, spur in their hides, daft, incorrigible liar etc. Is this his so called “value-adding” to Singaporeans? To vote for a over-the-age minister who earns more than 3 million to threaten and insult us, I must be thinking of sodomy.

Vote PAP Party Out Once And For All
Looking at USA, Taiwan and Japan, the citizens are losing faith in their new chosen government as results are not delivered within a year. I do think this will also happen in Singapore should a ‘freak’ election occur… You see the above 3 foreign govts need more time in clearing the s**t that their previous govts had left them, so it might happen here as well as people are impatient to see the changes… But I do want different voices in the parliament and parties checking on one another, just like our dear MM mentioned, “the spurs are not stuck into the hide”, they do need competition, and stop disparaging their own citizens… really
The PAP is threatening the voters even b4 the elections. A lawyer would be punished in the Courts for doing that.
Who is the judge here? We the Singaporeans of course !
The PAP is already threatening us, the voters, even before the election. A lawyer would be punished in the Courts for doing that.
Who is the judge here? We the Singaporeans of course!
Aiyoh! Merry-Go-Round (recycle of old ideals, putting old wine into new bottles) is this Dirtiest-Oldest-Man’s only weapon to further enhance his already strong grip of power on Singapore! This DOM is using the same tactic over and over again, for every “erection” he has been frightening and threatening Singapore’s electorates not to “CAST PROTEST VOTE” against this bunch of despicable and ungrateful million-dollar-nerds!
Now, when can born and bred Singaporeans voice their unhappiness over this bunch of ungrateful nerd’s over-paid and under-performed “report-cards”?
1. Can not walk to the street to protest and demonstrate openly and publicly as even one-man protest in public is unlawful and can be prosecuted.
2. Do not cast protest vote even you are very, very, very, very…… unhappy and furious with the performance of this bunch of over-paid ungrateful-nerds.
If you live according to this DOM’s synergies and philosophies, the whole-part of your life will be just swallowed whatever “poisonous medicine” the ruling party imposed upon you and do not protest even to the extent of facing “death threat”! Hence, they will be in power forever till eternity!
Why are those 60% of gullible and credulous voters still sleeping and have not woken up? Who can wake them up? I do not think they have much time left to really strive for their off-springs before the new-citizens conquer the whole of Singapore!
Good luck to them!
If an afforable public housing over my head is all I care, why would I bother if HDB price dropped? Why should I spend 30% of my income on housing? It should be as low as possible as I need money for my old age.
Anyway, like what most of you have mentioned, LKY’s comment is full of bullshit
I used to respect the MM alot when i was younger. Now no longer. Simple as that. FULL STOP.
Heehaheehaheeha…… To a “GAY”, what’s wrong if his “ASS” is being “SCREWED”? I opine that the “GAY” will really enjoy being “SCREWED” especially, by a strong, muscular and virile man but, definitely not this bunch of idiotic million-dollar eunuchs in particular this sissy mbt? Since, that’s the case, let’s be brave enough to “cast protest” votes because it is a “sensual-enjoyment” if a “Gay’s” Ass is being screwed!
Are you sure without mbt, hdb flat’s values will depreciate and without this DOM, Singapore will sink?
You, DOM, will you please stop threatening us, the “TIGERS” and owners of this tiny-black-mark and not you and your million-dollar nerds cum sheers whom know nothing but betray! What a treacherous bunch of miw?
This old man claimed himself “do nothing but forecasting”?
Remembered he said something before the US financial meltdown ?
“This is the first time we will not be affected by the US recession….”
Why no one say something about this huh ??
i think time to sing , “pack up your trouble in your old kit bag and smile , smile , smile”
any body care to sing?
either he is ignorant of how pent up people are with MBT or he simply couldn’t care less…
“if Mr Mah loses to the opposition, Singaporeans better sell their flats fast as they would no longer be of any value.”
Crap! I dun believe HDB prices will drop even mbt out! The reason is, HDB prices drop will have domino effect everywhere in Singapore, private properties will be affect too, if he really happened, PAP will be doomed forever. They dun dare to let the price drop one, THIS is playing with u and mine money into the drain.
I am casting my protest vote to MBT not because of rising HDB flat prices, but the way he escape responsibility when he squandered 400,000 of our tax-payer’s money to rename Marina Bay as “Marina Bay”.

Previously we were told our HDB rubbish chutes will pile up a few floors high with rubbish if we do vote in the OPP.
So far we are still waiting for the rubbish to pile up in PP and HG. How come it is not happenning?
“if Mr Mah loses to the opposition, Singaporeans better sell their flats fast as they would no longer be of any value.”
Does that imply that if other ministers lost to the opposition, all taxes> GST, ERP, Transportation, medical costs..etc.. will be reduced too?
What value he is talking about when a home is a dwelling place, a necessity to lease from HDB. Sooner we’ll see 2 generations of families cramming into 3 room flats because of affordability issues which bring us back to the 70’s.
FPC, I take it that you are a Christian. If so, I want to apologize to everyone here if my comment was offensive to them. It was actually directed at richie who claims that it is heaven’s will that lky should continue on forever.
Seriously speaking, mm lee’s remarks may indicate that the PAP is in severe disarray over their damage control policy. After all, his remarks came right after mah bow tan claimed that the HDB has no control over resale prices. Since mbt has no control over housing prices, then how can his being deposed cause housing prices to fall? And for that matter, what makes lky think the vast majority of Singaporeans want higher property prices? After all, higher property prices only benefit you if you sell off your house and downgrade to a much smaller unit or move in with your relatives. And even downgrading may stll cost you more if the apartment you bought is in a popular mature estate whereas your previous one was in a new estate.
first the slightly younger ones all say government cannot control the prices of hdb flats, then old man say if marlboro tan loses to opposition the flats would no longer be of any value?
IRONICAL RIGHT!
no more threats please, we are so experienced to it now that we are immune to it leow.
so… time is up!
This old man also ‘forecast’ just before the US financial meltdown that “Singaporeans will enjoy 5 to 10 GOLDEN ERA

By letting the free market reign, this is what happens. $990,000 pricing is no longer about location and sea view but a pure pricng manipulation in an overly demand driven market. The rich always wins in this market.
Free market is not a fair market. The elected leaders need to discharge their responsibilility in looking after the interest of the ordinary people through their public polices and a governance that embodies the values of honesty, fairness, public service with a clear focus on the welfare of the people.
Watch Obama vs GOP hour-long Q & A. Our Ministers and MPs need to learn from Obama how to deal with opposition & the general population. He was gracious, witty, quick on his feet with no prepared script facing a roomful of GOPs (no supporters of his). He emphasized how he was prepared to work with the GOP at every opportunity.
Of course a great speaker does not necessarily make a good President or Prime Minister. But it does show how he thinks and if he understands the problems citizens of the land face. And no, Obama did not call names if anyone disagreed on his health policies/budget etc etc.
Not out to sing praises of Obama. The Obama/Rep spar showed how one confident politician won citizens over – with respect, courtesy & addressing their concern for their welfare over unemployment, health care & taxes – what everyone shares. Readers’ rating: Brilliant 85%. Wish our highly paid (out of our taxes) politicians would treat SG citizens with more tact and finesse. As we all know, we have been short-changed & called ’sheep’.
time to stock up on cardboards and newspaper.
cannot afford proper home liao… must sleep at void deck!
wow what a sight~
Yes!! “respect, courtesy & addressing their concern for their welfare” isn’t this the very basic duties and obligation of the elected government of a country ? Where do we find all this attributes in the PAP ?
We have all this nonsense because we, Singaporean, have somehow allowed, through the years, PAP to think that they are indispensable !! and slowly and surely that mindset has evolved into arrogance, disregard and disrespect.
You see, when your principle of governing is wrong you will soon find conflicts of statement and contradictions of actions.
HDB has been PAP’s political vehicle since its begining and what nonsense it is to say the government has no control over the prices of HBD flats! HDB is not a private developer!
Other countries have passed comprehensive legislation to control home prices and restrict speculation. What it is so difficult for Mah Bow Tan to do just that through our parliamentary process? If Mah is not able to do that then he does not deserve to be Minister for National Development because to control housing development for his people should be his obligation and priority.
Or is it that HDB has forgotten its original mission? Or is it that PAP does not want to see too large a gap between private condo and HDB prices because of the government’s vested interests in private properties? If it’s the case then I’d call it conflict of interests and policies on the part of the government.
Could Singapore be better off to have the constitution similar to North Korea?. In this way we can have 2 days of public celebration every 5 years.
One to introduce more or less the same lineup of policy makers.
The next day to parade all the latest military hardware.
Who need the one day cooling-off?
Mah Bow Tan wanted to impress the old man with the profits generated by HDB. He did it to enhance himself and neglected the needs of the citizens.
Remember in the past we had a situation where all the flats in Woodlands, Jurong and Ponggol were over built and unwanted?
He was smart enough to overcome that over-supply situation by stopping new construction of flats and lelong off those unsold flats with hefty discounts in his walk-in-selection gimmicks.
He thought he had learnt a lesson and introduced BTO flats.. in another word… no order from the public no building of flats hence cutting down the risk of oversupply. In doing so, he enhanced his position as a skilful and intelligent Shorty….thus impressed the old man further at the expense and inconvenience of the citizens.
His mistake is so glaring and the old man did not hesitate to sell him wholesale.
”If he cannot defend himself…he deserved to lose!”
How is he going to defend himself?
His ignorance on the new immigration policy leads to a vacuum in the supply causing the price to escalate even in a bearish market which inevitably caught him by surprise.
PAP may remove him from Tampine in order to save it and censure him in order to please the voters. All the mistakes and negligent will then be directed to Mr Marlboro and probably send him to some other ministries where foresights are not required.
“we know this old man is the best debater in the world.”
The best of the best debaters is the one that don’t have to debate and still win so you can’t win the old fart by debate, only by overthrowing his leegime.
“Free market is not a fair market. The elected leaders need to discharge their responsibilility in looking after the interest of the ordinary people through their public polices and a governance that embodies the values of honesty, fairness, public service with a clear focus on the welfare of the people.”
That is the point. OUr SinGov’s decision to use free market and gov control depending on whether exorbitant profit can be channeled to them or not.
When heavy speculation over demand and supply, use FREE MARKET because this will give the maximum profit since speculation will drive up price very scarce resource.
When using commodity, use GOV CONTROL because this will provide the MAXIMUM PROFIT USING PRO-BUSINESS POLICY. Eg transportation, Telco (anyone should stop giving me the bull that M1, Singtel and StarHub have no affiliation with SinGov)
See how the gov screw and exploit the citizens.
I read in the report that the highest no of private property buyers in this country is from Malaysia n Indonesia.
