Thank you very much, Alex. The path you have chosen may be a long and difficult one but keep in mind that your efforts are greatly appreciated by some of us. I wish I can do more than just thanking you here since I am also jobless like many other fellow Singaporeans while the PAP and their foreigners are laughing at us.

this kid should improve his diction and learn to pronounce his words properly. i couldnt catch 30% of what he was saying.
terrible orator as well. compare him to lee hsien loong, lee kuan yew or kenneth jeyeretynam.

Alex Tan,
Good speech.
Go help this handicap guy at Blk 340, Clementi Ave 5, see postings below.
Basically HDB refusing to reply on a LUP flaw, his MP ‘bochap’ n GM WCTC [Clementi] oso ‘bochap’ – BASICALLY ALL ACT BLURR to,
‘why LUP done but lift dont stop at all floors at Clementi Ave 5 blocks [residents still need to walk up/down stairs to get to the lift] BUT the lift stop at all floors after LUP for similar design blocks at Bedok, AMK, Aljunied and Jurong East
Alex, show Singaporeans you are better than MP Arthur Fong, HDB CEO Tay Kim Poh, HDB Deputy Director Chee Kheng Chye, GM WCTC [Clementi] Tay Eng Hwa and others who were asked and dint bother to help him.
Also will be a good experience for you.

Hello, Alex overcome your stage fright
Alex you can learn from the best
Watch videos of Bill Cinton = its the economy stupid, its time for a change
Watch videos of George Senior Bush = read my lips, no more tax
Watch videos of Obama Hussien = People are you fire up! and ready to go, its time for a change, yes we can
They are naturalist, they are very comfortable
Maintanence eye contact with the audience
Don’t keep looking at your notes, your not reading poems
Select one point and you start to elaborate
Read point@ your palm of your hand (Sarah Palin did that I do)
Don’t just give facts & numbers dry statics, dry survey, tell a simple story of a friend…etc
You got to engage with your audience (watch c-span)

Hi Alex ,
for a start is good that you are making your maiden speech by having some mistakes here and there ..
your english is ok but from my humble POV is the way you present yourself and your stage fright ..
overcome this 2 and you will be fine , furthermore during Election times as history has said , Opposition Rallies are often far more pple than PAP Rallies so to present well and overcome stage fright is important.
you are doing a good job , some pple here just like to run down on you ( who knows they are here for Espionage purposes and “Guerrilla-like warfare” purposes )
Keep it up , way to go

thank you for the welcome but get your facts right. i am not a degree holder, i am a pgce holder, though i do have a degree with a first as well.
and my salary is well above 4k not 3k. but yes you are right, i cant afford starbucks because 10 bucks a cup of coffee is too expensive for me.
i am against some policies of the pap but i am for some policies as well. but i am all for a functioning democracy in singapore.
about quitting my job…i can probably get a much higher wage doing something relevant to my deg since i have a first and a few years exp in my degree area. but i teach because it is my interest and it challenges me intellectually. i am not a moe teacher, i teach in a non moe school.
many moe teachers i know can get higher wages outside teaching. for eg, my colleague is an acca holder and a cpa. with his experience he can probably get 10k a month but he is only getting less than half of that now teaching in a poly. most of us teach because we like the job.
and yes i look down on uneducated vile ugly arrogant old people.

Alex you are one brave young man.
Many Singaporeans only complain and complain about PAP but dare not and won’t do anything about the inequalities. This is why PAP remains in power for the last 40plus years.
Don’t worry about the negative comments here, these are from people who don’t even have 1% of the guts you have. They only talk but no action.
Keep it up ! We are behind you ! Singapore will have a bright future if there are more people like you.

Hello,
Overcoming stage fright is easy
Especially at your turf, 30% of S’porean DNA are made up of what we call hate-club members (anything but PAP)
As you go down these road, buddy here are 2 useful tips
Facing a sceptics crowds, cross their arms to their chest
Alex, this is when you had to develop the skills of “Breaking the ice” trying to reach the (middle ground) independence VOTERS. Always start with share experience, look for common grounds, we are in the same boat. Next phase, bring them towards the 1)unknowns, 2)uncertain times, 3)fear for their children future what is at stake. Next phase, we had the solution, go for change. Always end with a simple story that the audience can related to
Facing a hostile crowds, that try to make it diffuclt for you
To cut a long story short…watch Republican Press Secretary Ari Fleischer or Republican Press Secretary Dana Perino watch how the press non-stop asking some tough questions, learn how they tackle them and how fast their mind works (watch c-span)

@Singapore – Good Morning…
1. This Article is about Alex Tan and not about you – I implore your sensitivity, I believe the following about you..
a. You are educated and certainly, you will speak much better than me. No need to challenge me, please allow me to apologize to you.
b. Please suggests to Alex the ways that he can improve his diction and syntax.
2. I am in agreement with you! – I am not anti PAP as such, but rather, certain policies needs change and the process of their policy can be more inclusive to the locals.
@Singapore, Finally, please allow me to apologize for my outburst last evening, it is most unbecoming of me….
But i did so, as i returned from Hong Lim Park, met with Alex Tan in person and would like for you to get to know this young man…he does not come from a privilege family but he does have courage and I believe him to be an upstanding guy.
Meet him, know him and then criticize him.
cheers.

Rev it up, then I’ll nod my head.
And also, picking the second day of CNY for your maiden speech isn’t a very bright move.
Presentation skills needs to be improved dramatically. And alot of things are not as simple as you make it sound, elaboration is needed in times to come. I cannot say for sure I will support you, but I will not support PAP, and that is a fact.
On the bright side, he might be the guy voicing out for the common people after all.
Oh and one last thing, I might want a few more people of their worth, but putting PM Lee within doesn’t make it sound right.
I’d like a few more LKY who thinks for the country, but give me a few more LHL? No thanks, he lost all respect when he went ahead with his salary increment. And I’ve yet to know what benefits he has given to Singaporeans besides the 5 day work week (Which doesn’t even applies in many other sectors).

Thank you Alex for your audacity to speak in public, and what more, in a country whose government is so hostile and vindictive to criticism.
I too must do public speaking from time to time because of my profession. I suffered from stage fright as well. But when I know the subject thoroughly, rehearse and speak from heart, I can give a better and convincing speech.
God speed to you. I will be there this Sunday to listen to you.

it is actually quite impossible for me to earn 3k a month because even a fresh graduate teacher in MOE starts with 3k a month.
with a first class hons degree and no exp, you could work in any civil service department and get around 3k. with experience, you will obviously get more.
as for survival, frankly i dont even need to work now. my house is fully paid up. i have some savings. i can just rent out my house and live on rent money for life. i can live in singapore or rent a small flat overseas.

Hey Mr Alex Tan,
That call to ask you to that handicap guy at Clementi Ave 5 that is stuck at home despite LUP done, is a good ‘project’, if you can find a way to help him n other old/handicap residents to get to the lift.
You can show his MP, HDB CEO n GM WCTC-Clementi n others that were asked to help, the meaning of COMPASSION, since they had abandon him n others after a ’screwed-up’ LUP that still requires residents to climb up/down stairs to access the lift.

@坡仔哥哥 , alex and gang. here’s how to make a proper speech. copied from my post on the other thread.
everyone i know make scripted speeches by reading from a paper. the best speeches are always scripted ones. delivered with class, humour and proper english.
here is how to deliver a proper speech -> learn from kenneth of the reform party
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUCwJw7QEz4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YuZyQOZvK70&NR=1
or learn from lee hsien loong
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1yA-9g4q2k
the only ppl who will listen to you and your terrible english are the lowlifes because you will not convince anyone of high calibre speaking the way you do.
you dont need to speak with a old school RP accent like kenneth (anyway you can’t speak like him even if you tried) but at least speak properly and intonate your speech properly. you could speak like lee hsien loong with a little effort. hsien loong has a very singaporean accent but he speaks standard singapore english, he is a good idol for you to emulate.
try pronoucing your words properly and intonate your speech properly. find a language coach if you cant do it yourself

here alex and gang, some education for you about the importance of speaking proper standard english.
look at how gordon brown, prime minister of the uk speaks. he is scottish but he does not speak with a broad scot accent. he speaks standard scottish english. if he spoke broad scots in parliament, no one would take him seriously, anyway, most will not be able to understand him. broad scots english is even worse than your average singaporean’s singlish. like 10 times worse.
now look at how david cameron, opposition leader of the uk speaks. he speaks contemporary RP english. if he spoke jafrican or brummie, i assure you once again, it would be quite hard to take him seriously.
look at how obama president of the usa speaks. he speaks general american english. if obama spoke rap english, would you take him seriously?
“hey homies, me your president. me da main man in da house. what up”
look at kevin rudd of australia, he speaks general australia english. if kevin rudd spoke outback australian do you think the australians would take him seriously?
go learn how to speak english properly if you want to talk to educated men or professionals with skills or men of high calibre.

Alex Tan and Kenneth Jeyaretnam both has one thing in common, they read from scripts, so as one observed, it is not disastrous if you do need to read off something, but maybe, Alex, not from your mobile? However, this is where the similarity stopped. Notice Kenneth spoke with poise and assurance, his body’s not flinching and always composed, his voice and speech clear and precise, and he spoke slowly and used occasional pause for emphasis and effect. No swaying of hands, unnecessary gestures and looking around without eye contact. These points, Alex, are a good place to start and improve. Get a personal speech coach will be my advice, certainly it will reap benefit in the short term, and also the long run, surely.
However, you may never achieve to speak or articulate in the manner Kenneth does, or for the matter, Lee Hsien Loong, and perhaps also your arch-critic “Singapore”, even with practice and coaching, to be realistic. But fret not. The Singaporean accent may follow you forever, but at least endeavour to converse and orate in standard clear english and try to avoid Singlish terms and also Chinese interpreted grammatical sentences and you should be find.
Also, another important point is body language. This is actually very important, your commitment, integrity and confidence of the things you say or said can be enhanced tremendously or the lack of can be your downfall. This can be learned. you don’t need to hold a PHD to be master of body language. A good case in point are successful sales persons. Also, if you think about it, a loan shark, low life he maybe, but can strike fear in both his speech and action, also of course your army sergeant. Be authoritative, discerning and in control, do not panic even if you do not know the answers or solution, and also be totally honest, unbiased and never be presumptive. One of the best people coach would be Anthony Robbins, google him, and I am sure there is a lot of resources floating around in cyberspace.
There are many self aggrandizing people who always look down on the disadvantaged people or people who are less fortunate or less educated then themselves, and perhaps derived delight in putting them down at every opportunity. Take no heed of these condescending voices, remember, isn’t normal Singaporeans who included these people are people you take course to help and guide, Alex?
Now you have commenced, I expect you to improve from now onwards, no worries, alright, make this a personal challenge to improve so you can serve better.
Also, even if you do not have high qualifications than the people you chose to lead (ie English standard or the like), you can certainly more than compensate this weakness by being a man of ideas, ideals, conviction and a person who not only talk but walk his talk.
I wish thee well

@quitter
alex tan can speak english as well as me or lee hsien loong quite easily within a year if he chooses to work on it.
i have seen how china students or spanish students managed to speak near RP english in just one year from their original “wtf” english.
he obviously has a good base to work with, he just needs some polishing. he is fluent in english he just doesn’t pronounce or intonate his words properly. he can speak standard singapore english easily if he works on it. speaking like kenneth from the reform party (who has an old school RP accent) will need plenty more work, he will need to learn how to pronounce a lot of words differently. there is no point in deliberately learning to speak in an RP accent anyway, RP english will not fit in here. the contemporary RP accent that david cameron speaks would fit in actually but not the old school RP. standard singapore english is still the best.
here watch how gordon brown (standard scottish english) and david cameron (contemporary RP english) speaks:
http://www.number10.gov.uk/number-10-tv/prime-ministers-questions
alex needs to stop speaking like the typical 50 years old army soldier who has only psle education and start speaking like an educated singaporean. he has a poly diploma, he is not uneducated. he also is quite intelligent and a lot of his ideas are very well thought of.
he needs to get a mic so he wont have to shout. and write his speech on paper not on your hp.
i am rooting for you alex. politics may or may not work out (it normally does not work out for opposition politians… lol) but good luck in life nevertherless.

Alex Tan, good effort speech!
Well done for your 1st attempt.
No one is born a Toastmaster.
With each HL park speech, i am sure you will naturally improve.
You maiden speech shows some signs of uneasiness. That is only human.
You are a young man in your 20’s.
Many uncles here are in their 30’s or older.
Do not be discouraged by those who are not appreciative of your efforts. Who knows where they come from?
Anyways, these moles can only tok cok sing song. They have proven not able to hold a candle to you by being couch potato critics. They dare not even challenge you face to face at HL park to criticise you. Yet, they dare to hide behind anonymity and criticise you.
They have proven they are not worthy, if anything.
More HL speech!
suggestions:
1. hold a ‘Who shouts the loudest’ event at HL Park. People pay $1 per shout. They can proclaim anything they like eg ‘Singaporeans for Singapore’ etc.
The best shouter gets a prize. singaporeans love prizes. Its an apathy buster.

-> i don’t know anything about politic yet i like to talk a bit of cock here n there about democracy. i am very confused in my mind cause most of the time i talk nonsense.
i am not an expert but i know tons about democracy and contemporary politics – from the senate in the roman empire, to the magna carta in britannia. from the rudd govt in aus to the labour govt in the uk. i watch their question time online weekly.
but what do i know? singlish spewing, o levels educated, intellects like yourself obviously know much more than me.
i would tell you what i would tell the neighbourhood hawker trash. go get an education, learn to speak proper english (which happens to be the first language of your country btw), pick up some class and a proper skill so you won’t have to work in a dead end job and scream “boy” at the sec sch kid just to boost your pathetic little ego.
talk about an utter lowlife

Due credit must be given to Alex.
Notwithstanding the “quality” of his diction He is speaking the truth.
Alex, do not be discouraged.
MY view is He speaks better than some of our Ministers who draw millions of dollars of taxpayers’ money as salary….

Don’t have too much regard for the “irrelevant” and “no entity”. This ‘yobbo” has half-wit ideas about the old and young and an air about his English – hardly an impression on me when I have spoke with so many who spoke legal English with me in a foreign culture.
In Australia, I noticed one thing very clear from my life experience – BEING DIFFERENT OF ACCENT ATTRACTS ATTENTION because people actually “try harder” to listen and comprehend you when you GOT A SERIOUS MESSAGE. As a foreigner there, I find NO HANDICAP dealing with different nationalities, so why is anybody be different as long as the message content is firm and forceful.

Julia Gillard, Australian Deputy Prime Minister was asked recently if she speak English by Washington school kids!! Try speaking to a Englishman from Yorkshire and one from Scotland, the accent is different again. Gillard spoke in international forums in Australian English, did the kids know???
As for stage fright, this comes from experience. But let me offer you my tips to overcome that. Ask yourself this questions
1. Why are you speaking and the audience listening?
2. Why are you there and they are there too?
The answers to question 1.
You IMAGINED in your head, YOU ARE BETTER IN KNOWLEDGE OF THE SUBJECT-MATTER YOU ARE GOING TO TALK ABOUT THAN THOSE SITTING/LISTENING IN THE AUDIENCE, that is why YOU ARE ON THE STAGE and THEY ARE sitting in the auditorium LISTENING to YOU. Never mind if the truth in substance is the opposite that someone is better informed than you. Your objective is TO OVERCOME FEAR ON STAGE TO SPEAK BETTER – whether it is IN FACT “better” in content is another matter of debate.
OTHERWISE, SOMEONE IN THE AUDIENCE WOULD BE ON THE STAGE TALKING AND YOU AMONG IN THE AUDIENCE LISTENING.
THIS IS A TESTED AND PROVEN FORMULA.
It is like a “fearful” meeting with some “big shot”, shake his or her hand FIRMLY AND CONFIDENTLY, and you are his or her equal immediately IN YOUR MIND. And you then relate on that basis you are his equal.
Very few people realize that listening skills is the largest component of communication skills – maybe 80% or more. You spent a lot more time in your life listening than talking even if you are a keen politician unless you are Winfred Oprah.
When you SPEAK, you think LESS and when you LISTEN, you think MORE. And the reason why they are there, is because THEY WANT TO LISTEN TO WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY. They are ready, for whatever reason/s known to them, for your speech. Nothing else to consider except your content and just deliver that speech confidently.
Answer to question 2.
It is obvious you are there to deliver A MESSAGE CONTENT and they are there to RECEIVE EXACTLY THAT MESSAGE CONTENT – they match exactly of INTENTION even if they may not agree with all your content. There is mutually eagerness of meeting of minds – no need for stage fear. Any disagreement can be handled after your speech have finished.
A couple of suggestions – practice your speech in front of the mirror at home silently. Hand gesticulation helps. Focus on key words and connecting relationships in your message content. Looking from handphone will make you nervous – it make you thinking and worry about missing words or key phrases. Organise your thoughts like you are ready to debate with someone robustly to debunk him/her. Look to the audience and across the audience – the eye contact gives you confidence and helps you build your communication rapport and adding your confidence to your speech.
PRESENT A FRIENDLY DISPOSITION.
And, needless to say, do your homework and keep your content focus.

alex tan,
i am not from the PAP. dont bother “challenging me” i am not a gangster. i would rather waste my time watching tv than going to a stupid park to “make a speech” to 10 people. ma ma says ” never bother with people who are 22 yo, fresh out of army, spick bad engrish, onli haf a poli diploma and werk as an engineer and cell tootpick to mak money. he is nort work your time.”
someone here has gone crazy. first his friends from canada, antartica and australia were flying in to meet him in singapore last week and this week he is living in australia already. he is obsessed with australia and thinks it is the land where everything is gold.
then he is obsessed with typing in the worst grammar possible. even middle age english is more readable than that crap. pathetic. his sentences are impossible to parse. and all that obsession with legal statues and pretending to be a solicitor.
seriously disturbed mind.

even for your current job of “engineer”, you have only been at it less than a year. which is probably the only “real” job you have ever done.
the only commendable thing is you graduated from poly with an engineering diploma.

by the way, just to set the record straight kid, i do not look down on you if you are merely old and uneducated.
i look down if you are old, ARROGANT and RUDE. keywords -> rude and arrogant.
it also disgusts me if you cannot speak english properly. it is the first langauge of your country, at least speak it well and uphold the singaporean identity. i am also somewhat ok with singlish but not broken english.
stop turning the country into a slum filled with vile rude uneducated trash who speak shitty english.

if you want to impersonate me, at least type in somewhat standard english. go get an education please. obama recently made a very astute observation in one of his speech, he said “education is the best anti poverty program in the 21th century”.
go get yourself educated so you can type somewhat proper english and get out of working as a hawker, earning 800 sgd after paying rental. haha why do hawkers always call themselves businessmen or sole proprietor? just like the cab drivers i meet, they like to call themself self employed or sole propretor as well.
i am finishing up my distance learning mba in a few months time. my dissertation is almost done. my namecard will look much better with another post nominal. more importantly, it gives me another career option when i reach retirement age.
teachers are normally more valuable when they age, as they are more skilled in their profession. so i can probably teach till i am 70. cant say the same for the retail assistants or hawkers! with an mba, i can also do consulting work in the education sector or do research which is an interest of mine. no matter how you look at it, a general business masters degree will stand me in good stead.
i am also thinking of doing a phd later on since an mba gives me exemption from the first year (research methodology modules)in some phds. i could complete the phd in 2 years. or maybe i could do a phd through published work. a phd will open doors to university positions all over the world but failure rates are high and a phd costs at least 50k without studentship.
here’s how my namecard will look like when i finish my mba:
mr singapore MBA, PGCE(Qualified Teacher Status)(UK), BA(first class hons)(UK), DELTA, ACMI.
that looks so sweet. sure looks better than:
mr macdonalds boy Dip(Engineering)(SG)
or
mr admin assistant 4 O levels

is the below your true resume? so your full working experience includes working as a caterer, waiter, macdonalds staff and engineer? and the engineer position was only for less than a year?
is this true or just a lie on the internet spread by your rivals.
anyway why would anyone put macdonalds or waitering on their resume? that was hilarious.
assuming that is true (if it is not please post), with that kind of exceptional working experience and education, do you think you would be up to task to manage an entire estate as a MP? With your excellent english skills do you think you would be able to debate in parliament amongst the oxbridge educated ministers with decades of management experience?
PS: what do they put in the pancakes that make it so nice? and are the beef patties in the burgers real beef or do they have fillers?

to me, db is perfectly fine because some of the military laws can be quite rediculous. i have seen ppl going to db for just talking back to their “officers” or just for not turning up for work etc.
db record is not a registrable offence under the registrable offecnes act anyway so it will not give rise a criminal record.
anyway, if u come here i will still vote for you just to kickstart democracy in parliament. the people who join opposition parties after democracy takes root in singapore will no doubt be of much higher quality.

@singapore:
This is my first time addressing you on this matter. You’re going quite out of hand here. If you’re as smart as you claimed then I do not see why you’re wasting time trying to be an idiot.
Look, remember, things we know, we keep to ourselves. Help people improve, not spam, taunt and irritate them into working hard. Just observe and do what you want when the GE comes anyways. I see no reasons to get to insulting hawkers and less educated people, and to note, many hawkers are much richer than you, but their working conditions are much harsher as well.
As much as you claim to be a educated guy…you’re acting more like an agitated kid with too much time, just like a few others that appears here. I figured by now there’s at least 3 people using the moniker “singapore” over here and at TOC, but I’m referring to the guy who disses other people with his English.
We’re here to ask Alex to improve, I’m not interested, and don’t take kindly to insults of any kind…you do not fight teeth for teeth online, it’s just plain stupid.

@Singapore,
Someone mentioned Alex kept looking at his script on his mobile, so my response was exactly what you are saying, dude, everyone read from a script! Get it?
I may be a retard for all I care, name calling your best weapon behind a screen? even a hawker can do that.
It is utter preposterous that someone like you who claimed to be so highly educated, earning peanuts, looks down on people less educated, and have the audacity to be talking and acting like an elitist? You are not qualified! Look in the mirror and feel sorry for yourself because that the only person that will feel for you.
i think now that is what we call RUDE & ARROGANT.

This proves a lot does it not?
While you sacrifice for the voiceless people, i would not mind if you stop sacrificing for them because many are apathetic (proven by turnout) and not really worth fighting for, imho.
But good job. I appreciate your efforts.

“many hawkers are much richer than you”
are you serious? hawkers make more than 4k a month? what planet are you living in? no doubt some of the famous stalls make more than that but most of them would be lucky to take home 1k a month each after working 10 hours a day. dont be an idiot will you.
at my current salary, i am around the 70-80 percentile of wage earners in singapore. i will take that. i could earn more by teaching private tuition or changing jobs but money does not motivate me once i have enough to live comfortably. no point killing myself over money. i have enough to live and my house is paid up. i have insurance policies that covers all major illnesses.
if 4k plus is peanuts to you so be it. you may be in the top 30th percentile for all i know, but i doubt so anyway. probably just another day dreamer who thinks money is easy to come by.
just open some business and get rich. lol. fyi 9 out of 10 businesses fail. of the 1/10 that dont fail, a very high percentage fail within the next decade. only a very small percentage of businesses actually break even.
i am telling the truth as it is. many people are uneducated and speak bad english. and many are rude, arrogant and act like gangsters. a product of their upbringing. it is a problem in our society.
rather than crucifying me and saying i am rude and arrogant, why not go help these people be a better person? why not bring a dictionary and a brochure for an english class to your neighbourhood hokkien spewing hawker or admin asst today? i’ll tell you why you dont do that. because they are hopeless that is why.
only 15% of sg population above 15 has a degree. and only 10% of degree holders get a first class hons. you can bash the utility of a degree and call educated people “useless” all you want but if you have half a brain you would be working hard at getting one to get into that 15% with a degree.
telling people to speak proper english is not elitist. english is the first langauge of singapore, listen to the govt and speak it well. all the queen’s english joke is getting stale. i dont even speak the queen’s english, i speak with your normal singaporean accent but i speak standard english. i like the singaporean accent very much as well.
but of course there will always be lowlifes in society. that is a good thing. if everyone had an oxbridge master degree, spoke good english, is intelligent and thinks logically, damn, i would relegated to working at macdonalds.
instead of calling everyone arrogant and elitist, how about you stop lowering the bar all the time and raise it a little higher. try improving yourself for a change. there is no end to how low you can go in life. i dont look at kuan yew or hsien loong or any of our scholars and call them elitist. even though i might not agree with their views on certain things, i still look up to them and think they are good role models. that li shu min (what’s her name), mp’s daugther, does make a lot of sense with her comments. they say she was elitist but what’s wrong with that? you cant string together a proper sentence in english, you dont want to work hard and get educated or learn a skill, then you go work in dead end jobs all your life. she sounds like a highly intelligent young lady. if she keeps it up she will have a bright future.
anyway i would rather be arrogant and elitist than be “down there”. i would rather be “eat potato” than be a “chinese helicopter” who cannot speak his country’s first langauge well. these ppl will not be able to find a good job in singapore, even in china they will not be able to find a good job because they already have 1.3billion hungry chinese and you have nothing special to offer them if you dont speak english well.
i have taught in china i know. the mainlanders pay 15,000yuan (one year’s salary) just to speak to native english speakers for 3 months.

lets put it this way, if lee kuan yew asked me to speak to him at any park i would be there, it would be a privillege to speak to him.
if a 22 year old boy who has worked mostly as a macdonalds staff, waiter and caterer “challenges” you to go to a park and trash it out, you would just chuckle and add him to your ignore list.

Thank you Singapore for giving me such a good education, for providing safe clean streets, for giving me a place where everything works at the flick of a switch, for providing me with such good healthcare and jobs.
I have been around the world for the past 10 odd years studying and working, from Europe to Asia, and my family have even applied PR for me elsewhere. But there is no place like Singapore – my country, my land. I may complain but at the end of the day, I know this is home.
These national day videos are a tribute to a great country and the only home I know of – Singapore.

You don’t need to be a famous hawker to earn more than 4k in that line. You just need to provide good food and retain loyal neighborhood customers. When I said “many” I meant, “many”. I didn’t say all of them were taking home 4k a month, yes the bad ones opening at an average location will earn little, but seriously, the average amount the average owners (Note: Owners) take home every month after slogging 12 hours or more a day is around 2k or more, depending on circumstances. The ones entrenched in neighborhood with many loyal customers can take up to 10k on a good month.
But the amount of work they put in and creativity to provide such good food when compared to what you think of them seems meaningless. Do you even talk to them and understand what they do and how they earn…no I doubt you do, because according to you I live on another planet, and probably earn less than enough to beat your meager salary. Also, I am an idiot and can’t tell the difference between plucking money off trees and earning them dollar by dollar.
For all you care you should keep guessing how much I earn a month. But I can say I’ve failed in businesses before, but is doing quite well now thanks to experience and common sense. And definitely a good social relationship with people of all trades.
I do not bash educated people, they’re the ones I need to get what what I want done. But I do not condone less fortunate ones either. These “lowlifes” have much to offer in many ways and you should knock it into your head that some of them do quite well, using their brain and basic courtesy, which you seem to lack when talking about them.
That piece of paper you’ve sought so much after may be your ticket to stability, I and a few others live one of risks and bets. Perhaps that’s a hint on how much I earn.
I do not wish to argue with you any longer anyways, you seem content with branding less educated as lowlifes. If that’s how you think it’s not something I can stop. We can’t agree with each other, and we should stop at that. Non of us are wrong anyways.
But I do however implore that you keep to your insults instead of acting like a name calling kid in earlier posts. That’s most unsightly. I just take offense to you calling hawkers lowlifes, I’ve made my point. There’s no need to go on.

Why waste your time and money struggling with a PHD when your investment gain “can buy you a new brain” and get richer even faster after that.
I AM WAITING IMPATIENTLY TO TEST THE QUALITY OR OTHERWISE OF YOUR LONG DISTANCE MBA.
WILL YOU PLEASE NOT DISAPPOINT ME AND ALL OTHER BLOGGERS OF TR HERE.???
If you can’t handle it, go shaft your “coconut” into your toilet bowl.
Most of my business associates who did it real good in life learnt their money-making skills from the University of society.

-> but seriously, the average amount the average owners (Note: Owners) take home every month after slogging 12 hours or more a day is around 2k or more, depending on circumstances.
the stall makes 5k profit but how many people are needed to run the stall? when you divide the money amongst all the helpers, how much does each person get? you do the math.
you slog all day sweating and standing, while the average fresh degree graduate can earn that amount of 2-3k in an air conitioned room, sitting comfortably in a swivel chair. the work he does is intellectually stimulating as well.
-> I and a few others live one of risks and bets. Perhaps that’s a hint on how much I earn.
yeah well congrats big boss. i hope your “business” dont involve hanging a lot of pig heads on people’s door. i dont really want to know anything about your “business” so spare me the details pls.
i have friends who work in booz or mckinseys (big consultancy companies) and they like me would never put a lot of money into a start up. it is ironic because they advise a lot of startups themselves but they all know that most end up in failure in a few years time. equities derivatives yes, establised blur chips firms yes, startups with no track record, NEVER.

yeah thats what all the lowlifes say. sadly 90% of university of society graduates are working in low level jobs with bosses who graduated from universities of academia.
wow those are a lot of interesting projects. could you post more information about each one of them? websites will do but if you have the time do a detailed writeup on each one of them so i can advise you properly. harvard reference them properly with credible sources as well. mba 101 says the business decisisons you make are only as good as the information you have!
i can probably get around have around 4 million dollars worth of money from venture capitalists who are willing to chip in with you. this could be big business. let me know how it goes big boss. as you smoke your cigar in your australian mansion with busines associates from canada, america, london, madrid flying in to discuss world shaking business deals with you.
let me know how it goes, i need a lot more information, i am very keen on making big money. you and randomnessinmind are both big businessmen. wow never knew this website had so many powerful and influential businessmen!

Earning only $3000 per month and farting arrogance all over town?. Is that not DEGRADING of lowlife enough?
I have seen many who spend a lot more than that on a single occasion of nightlife entertainment.

it’s good to dream sometimes old man. just remember to wake up when you are ready to face the world. there is no hurry, take your time.
it is also ok to throw insults at me but please do it with proper english. if you type like a total illiterate you cannot blame people for not taking you seriously. unlike you, your friends and the “nightlife entertainment” ladies you go out with, we actually have gone to school and learnt to write in English, you know?
sorry about that. i guess we should all show respect for the elderly. it is not by choice that they are like that. maybe the decay of brain matter is to blame. young people do not know how it is like to leak urine everytime you stand up.
my apologies uncle.

@SINGAPORE on Fri @ 1:27pm
You said if Lee Kuan Yew asked you to speak to him at any park, you will be there.
Heck, in the first place, every true blue native born singaporens in this cyberspace knows who is Lee Kuan Yew, but as the saying goes : Does Lee Kuan Yew knows you???
So, if Lee Kuan Yew is such a high important figure, which have so many bodyguards surround him, why would he wants to speak to someone , an idiot where u claim yourself to be who draws only $3k per month to speak to him at any park???? You are wasting our Lee Kuan Yew’s time! Even his dog at home worth for than a thousand value than you that he would spend time with his own dog to stroll with him in his park!!!
Pls lah.. Want to act as if you are Lee Kuan Yew close buddy, Lee Kuan Yew first immediate response will chuckled and put you into his ignore list even if you present your name list to him!! At least his own bodyguards worth much much more value (in person) than you!!!
Go and look inside your own mirror before you want to daydreaming to put yourself as the same pedestral with Lee Kuan Yew (the great figure in singapore)!!! Mind U!!!

Singapore on Fri,
You can ignore a 22yr old Alex as you see him as nobody, that’s fine and alright..
But on the otherhand, Alex can and will choose to ignore you one of these days if he managed to be an MP !!
Folks, let’s mark this Singapore on Fri, since he has leaked out so much info of himself.. He cannot run away with it. Let’s remember him.
And Alex, do not waste your time to challenge or engage conversation with such a brainless idiot like him. Focus on your speech on every sunday and voice out all the concerns for your own ppl, that is your only foremost and priority task!!!
Some ppl are just too free, and they will try to divert your attention and run you down as much as possible. Dont fall into such a subtle trap.
Your English i definitely fine, i am there on the 15th feb and i have listened it on the spot. Nobody is born to speak fluently, just given time, keep on practising it, in no time you will speak even better than anyone else including this Singapore on Fri!
If Singapore on Fri thnks so highly of himself in terms of speaking better English than you, then why aren’t he himself making a speech there? i will definitely be there to listen if he is going to announce it…haha

YOU HAVE POTENTIAL TO BE AN MP.
YOU BELONG TO THE CATEGORY THAT IGNORES SINGAPOREANS.
QUOTE – ■Buck on Wed, 17th Feb 2010 4:18 pm
Hey Mr Alex Tan,
That call to ask you to that handicap guy at Clementi Ave 5 that is stuck at home despite LUP done, is a good ‘project’, if you can find a way to help him n other old/handicap residents to get to the lift.
You can show his MP, HDB CEO n GM WCTC-Clementi n others that were asked to help, the meaning of COMPASSION, since they had abandon him n others after a ’screwed-up’ LUP that still requires residents to climb up/down stairs to access the
lift.
