The PAP’s greatest fear: An aware, active and adversarial citizenry
OPINION
Despite rising disgruntlement on the ground against the ruling PAP, it is not in the danger of being booted out of office yet.
The scattered voices of dissent heard in neighborhood kopitiams and internet chatrooms are hardly concerns for the PAP and pose no threats to its political hegemony.
The PAP’s greatest fear lies not in a rejuvenated opposition, but in a politically aware, active and potentially adversarial citizenry transversing racial, religious and cultural boundaries.
PAP strongman Lee Kuan Yew once described Singaporeans as “champion grumblers”.
Complaining without taking any organized action together will never get Singaporeans anywhere.
Having 3,000 Singaporeans on a Facebook to vote out the PAP is quite different from getting 3,000 Singaporeans to Hong Lim Park to protest against the PAP policies which will have a far greater impact.
When more and more Singaporeans step forward, there will less fear within a large group. We need the numbers without which we will forever be a marginalized voice, or worse be dismissed as “astroturfers”.
For far too long, Singaporeans have been contented to leave the running of Singapore to a small group of elitists and scholars within the PAP who claim to have “peerless wisdom” over the rest of us.
While we are carrying on our mundane pursuits in daily life, the PAP has been busy trying to strengthen its position and to perpetuate its political hegemony by bringing in large numbers of new citizens and passing draconian laws to further curtail the civil liberties of Singaporeans.
It is time for Singaporeans to realize that they have certain rights as citizens of Singapore and without first reclaiming their political rights, there can be no economic rights.
Every Singaporean yearns to be materially self-sufficient, to live a relatively happy and carefree life and to have a secure future. These are our common aspirations.
What we fail to realize is that every aspect of our life is linked to politics in one way or another whether we like it or not.
From the latest fashion fads to the hassles of raising a family, every single thing in our lives is controlled and determined by government policies.
Singaporeans have been complaining lately of the increasing number of foreigners, rising HDB flat prices and stagnant wages.
These important bread-and-butter issues are intricately linked to politics.
How can we ever change these policies in our interests if we do not get lawmakers into Parliament to do so?
The PAP claims that it will listen to the feedback of Singaporeans, but how much of it will translate into real concrete action at the end of the day?
Right now, Singaporeans have very little say in the running of the country. The PAP can force its unpopular policies down our throats as “bitter medicines” anytime it wishes to.
We are at the complete mercy of a small clique of leaders who may not understand the situation on the ground fully to appreciate our worries, concerns and angst about the future.
How can we move ahead as a nation when the leadership and the people are moving out of sync with each other?
We seriously need a rethink of the future direction of our nation. Can we continue growing by importing cheap foreign workers? How can we be more innovative without first liberalizing the political landscape? Are we becoming more a nation or a hotel?
To put it bluntly, it is no longer sufficient to whine, complain and grumble. Nobody will ever take us seriously.
We have to mobilize, organize and galvanize ourselves into action in order to make ourselves heard.
Typing behind the screen as anonymous “cyber-warriors” is simply not enough anymore.

let’s get GLOBALISED like the govt kept harping about FTs and talents;let’s put in more TALENTS into the dull Parlaiment to get it more globalised with ‘OUTSIDE’ talents rather than just leave it with purely ‘LOCAL(pap)’ talents.WE need to bring in TALENTS like sylvia, kenneth, goh meng see and others,”Talents that can create jobs for singaporeans”.
VOTE SINGAPOREANS FOR SINGAPOREANS.

Pap don’t give a damn about nation. You are only digit and daft. Everybody just have to step up and make the changes. Only than you can see hope for yourself and your kids. Of course , because of pap strong base , there will be a lot will die die also support them. But this same people do not realise that lky only see lee family and nobody else is part of them.

I think PAP most feared is the departure of MM. I do not believe everyone in PAP think alike, but if they don’t they would not be there. All our leaders are spoon feed. They are career politicians. However, Singaporean are also coward. We care more about our jobs, flats, children education, therefore we have to accept the situation now. Changing government do not come free, it comes with a price tag, sometimes very costly. Sure enough, it may be for the good in the long future, just like what took the PAP to power against the British. It may also be disaster like the Philippines, Thaland. Are we ready to make the sacrifice? I sould think it is better to make a gradual change. We need our young man to come out, but they must also know that they may sacrifice their prospect in their career. Nobody can guarantee success. If they are ready, I am prepared to support.

I think its a bit too early to start a “red shirt” movement here in Singapore… Yes it seems quite impossible to overthrow the PAP in the ballots, However, until proven otherwise, that is always the first option.
Failing which the delusion of the PAP members will bring forward its own demise though its deluded ways. Its just the natural course of things.
I disagree with any call for arms at the moment.

@xinxing, lky is a spent force … pap is ready to explode into splinters very soon … witness the dying moments of the pappies …
history will record the disservice lky did to Singapore for putting his sissy boy in charge …
lky’s demise will see a free for all … both pappies and opposition will have a field day cranking up the new media to expose lky’s lies and half-truths … charges of corruption and nepotism will run freely and openly …
not sure if the opposition is better in the long run … but the pappies are running citizens into the ground and must be stopped …

With PAP’s scheming the oppositions may not be able to attain control of parliament. Then it got to be the peoples’ duty to dethrone PAP. Revolution may become the only recourse.

Let’s go HONG LIM PARK and protest then…
Perhaps we shall do that if PAP wins > 50% in the coming GE.
VOTE OUT PAP.

No Red shirts movement in Singapore. Singaporeans should just vote and hope there are enough unhappy Singaporeans to boot out PAP. It is time PAP millionaires and PAP multi-millionaires and arrogant PAP members understood that PAP does not own Singapore. Singapore belongs to all Singaporeans and PAP must learn to accept this.

There is no need of red shirt, white shirt or blue shirt. Do what is right for yourself, your children , your grandchildren, and your great great children. Ask yourself this question? Are you staying in sg. Then
1. Is the nation doing anything for you?
2. is your children able to survive there?
3. Are you going to remain slave for ever?
4. Are you going to be pay peanuts? where mp pay is up 8.8%
5. Are you going to be in debt buying HDB? a housing mean for you.
6. Are you going to be forever fearful..when pap are fearful of you..cos if you do a protest vote. MBT will be kick out and HDB price will be affordable.

PAP wants to run Singapore like a communist country and so people should be surprised that recently few of our leaders heap praise on Chinese political system. But there are few in the world like to be ruled like in communist system where the citizen, who are the stakeholder of the country, have almost zero influence on the government policies. PAP can continue to dream but it will end in the next GE. Singapore voters should deny PAP the 2/3 majority in the parliament so that they cannot do whatever they like without considering the plight of the citizen, arrogantly brush aside citizen’s concern and not being accountable for their mistakes or problem that they have created.

we should not think of short term gain by continuing to trust the ruling party who has already proven to be implementing policies that are mostly against the well being of the singaporeans, we must make it very hard now to send in our signal that we are very angry and we will vote in as many alternative parties into parliament to check on them this time.

Since our soverign wealth and dominant pro-foreigners PAP are controlled by the FamiLees, MM Lee can now say,
“Both Government and PAP belongs to the FamiLees”.

It’s like this–human psychology lar !
People fear changes & wants status quo to remain….It’s a matter of comfort vs the fear of the unknown. Change brings with it the risk of failure….call it whatever you like ; generation-gap or stuck in the time warp—it is an animal instinct not wanting to change.
Just like your boy/girl going first to school or getting into a marriage–one would rather not unless the peer pressure coaxes you to change for the better.
PAP had played both the patriarchal & matriarchal role rolled into one for the past 50 years for at least for 3 generations of Singaporeans—psychologically it’s a tough umbilical cord to break-off ……the very reason why even those who knew PAP is not working entirely for their good rather shut their eyes and vote for PAP comes every GE….Sort of how one would treat their ungracious parents…Or why an antiquated system of monarchy still exist side be side an elected governance….People simply do not want to discard familiarity.
That must be broken only than PAP can be voted out.
Something has to trigger the want for change in Singapore..I figure the very trigger mechanism is the ultimate death of LKY…when lau lee does dies we don’t even need a GE for PAP to be kicked out of power…..In short,LKY’s death is a primary requisite for change in Singapore politics ; everything else including a General Election is secondary.
Why?
Because PAP is LKY & LKY is PAP….How?…Because LKY made sure no MP including his son ,the PM,has any grass root support….So people would not be voting for someone whom they do not link to PAP or it’s past…The familiarity cycle is thus had to be broken for a change in Singapore politics.
I hear you asking ,how mah !…was not LHL in politics for more than 20 years ?…and how about Wong Kum Seng and etc who had been in the cabinet for 30 odd years ; aren’t that enough for familiarity with PAP?..for people to vote PAP after LKY dies?..Nah!—Why?
Let me elaborate historically ,Alexander the great father Philip II of Macedon was great king too..so Alexander simply had out do his father to glory..Simply put, each great leader has to stand on his own feet and prove himself as worthy of a leader..Just the lineage or royal blood would not just do.
So,ask yourself which PAP MP can you identify with PAP whom you would vote ,other than LKY ,as a PAP die-hard fan?….NONE.
Therein lies the answer. If LKY dies tomorrow ; Singapore politics would change for the better or worse tomorrow..Our fate is simply tied to LKY’s longevity.

There is no need for arms or marching through Orchard Road where most are FTs/FWs and tourists with hardly 10% true blue Singaporeans.
The Heartlands are where this CHANGE must begin. The fear that holds most elderly Singaporeans no longer exists but to gel them as one for change needs a lot of hard work and doing.PAPs network on the ground are strong and their ccc and whatever are doing their bit quite effectively.
The educated young must leave their comfort zone and gel with these elderly to show them they mean business by wanting a change.Generation gap will always exists even at home and here lies the problem.Overcome that and Change will take its natural course.I have no solutions towards these but the opposition parties must have some ideas as to how to motivate the young and elderly into their fold and definitely the worse they can do is to put on Tees of their parties distibuting flyers and selling ????? as this is definitely a PUT OFF.
Where,When and How is the question every, two out of three Tru Blu Singas are unhappy with the current DIRE SITUATION but what we need is a SOLUTION.If CROWDS does not turn to votes what ELSE CAN???
Any Ideas & Solutions from TR’s SCRIBES i.e. Anonymous,Sinkapore,CruEl and the regular rational readers???????

Why do we need a red shirt movement in Singapore?
Red shirt movement happened in Thailand because the current govt didn’t want to recognize Taksin’s electoral victory.
The non red shirt initiated the coup d’etat that drove Taksin out.
We won’t need a red shirt movement in Singapore if the pigs recognize their electoral defeat in the coming elections and don’t attempt anything hanky panky.
These talks about red shirt movement in S’pore is exaggerated and unwarranted.

We should get ready to be more forward looking than just grumble in the background as the PAP knows jolly well that they could afford not to take us seriously. Our generation’s future and after are at stake if we don’t boldly step forward when the time comes.Pains and chaos is inevitable sometime if we want a better life for ourselves and children.Anything good comes with some risks and we must boldly dare to try or risk our entire life being manipulated as we witness many instances of policies forcing down in our throats.
So,I urge all fellow S’poreans to stand together as one people when the time comes for our united front.Don’t be misled again by their sweetening gimmicks come election time.Ask ourselves where on earth can we find a nation with GRC constituency, constituency boundary changes as they wish, cost of flats and groceries keep going up,jobless rates rising and utilities and public transport charges up.Our governments’ pay is the highest in the whole wide world and a small nation with so many MPs serving its electorate- a waste of public money.

@xinxing: is correct. Sporeans are coward. “Champion Grumblers” but when time to vote.. they will still for the.. Lightning..It has been proven in the past GEs. Of course the ‘fear’ culture is still very strong. The fear of losing jobs, businesses, promotions, HDB flats, etc etc is still very real in the minds of many many voters. The opposition parties are also weak and the ruling party knows it very well. Couple with mega GRCs and the shifting of “goal posts’ from time to time, plus the “sweeteners”, it will be an uphill task for the oppositions to win in the coming GE. The “fear factor” need to be removed first and the mindset of voters, especially the older ones need to change. It is now up to the opposition parties to do their part. They must put up strong, creditable and reliable teams in the coming GE in order to stand a chance.

We need all opposition parties unite against the giant – PAP, like what happened in our neighbour Malaysia. Elect one leader to leads them and I think Miss Sylvia is the best candidate so far, only through this unity of strength then those people ‘the champion grumblers’ apparently, we, will follow the next step to vote in the coming GE.
All Singaporean have commitment like works, morgage, family and friends etc. the risks are too high for many voters unless they know who they can vote for to represent them in the coming election. It is only when the opposition parties show their will and determination to unite in one and forsake the grudges and differences; we will then find a way to teach the MIW a lesson. This is just my 2 cents opinion.

Inform, educate and persuade the “lost” generation of thoroughly brain-washed. Internet informs, empowers citizenry. It is up to us to do the rest – protest loudly, relentlessly while debunking all their falsehoods. Energize the citizenry into a potent force which will follow the accountability into their office of governance. They are accountable to us and not the other way around. If they can’t perform, kick them out and always remember to kick some hard spurs into the a@se-holes to keep them awake and alert of formulating policies in the favour of public interest and country first instead of personal interest now.

Actually, I really think there are good people in the PAP, still!! Yes, I do believe in that, but due to the Party Whip & Lord LKY, nobody wants or dares to stand up & disagree with any of the policies. Would you go against a pay-cheaque of S$13000 a month minimum? You probably wont & why would you wanna do that when everytime you look at the late JBJ & President Ong(bless their kind souls), you see two great Singaporean son been shot down really bad by Lord LKY!! So what if you wanna make a difference & stand up for the people, would the average Singaporeans back you up? I know, most of us simply ignored JBJ after he fought for us & avoided him like a plague!! It’s really sad but I saw how people ignored him when he was selling The Hammer at Tekka market. I really think he had the shorter end of the stick when he gave us his heart & in the end, nobody bothered to help him out!!
Now, back to the fighter-of-an-MP, so after a couple of elections or walkovers, he/she would just become like the rest of the greedy MPs & just follow whatever the party says! When Vivian came onto the scene, I thought we had a maverick on our hands & perhaps, he could make a difference, but alas, he couldnt resists the temptation of greed! Money & power are two very powerful tools & Lord LKY knows how to use them to his fullest advantage. Problem is, we are just too busy with work, family, IPPT, the Great Singapore Sale & Q-ing up for Hello-Kitty dolls. PAP knows that & if you look at most of their policies, they are designed to locked up our money & free time, so we wont start a revolution. If you have just enough to eat, drink & a roof; you wont be too bothered about politics cos your mind is always thinking of how to save/earn more money! That’s the way it is for most of us.
However, having said all these things, I could smell the wind of change in the near distant. Call me a romantic, but I do see more people getting involved in politics & many are willing to back their talk. It might not be a lot but as long as it’s a growing thing, there’s still hope for us Sinkies!! It might not be this generation or next but it will come one day & hopefully, I could live to see the day when a more gracious & sincerre person becomes PM of Singapore!! Nothing lasts forever & when Lord LKY kicks the bucket, the PAP will break up & there will be much internal struggle for power & I doubt young apprentice LHL could control the country!! Without his powerful daddy, he’s just another weakling/softie in the schoolyard & the bullies will smell that a mile away!!

Xing Xing, I agreed with you. Our current PAP leaders and MPs are opportunist. They do not have the passion for public service. A person who has commitment towards public service will care much about their salary because they want to build a better country for the people.
The moment PAP pegged their salary with the public sector, it is legalise corruption to everyone. Their public service mission was vanished at the same time.
No doubt Singapore are coward during polling day. Some due to the serial number and job security for public servant and their family.
One on occasion, I attended a dinner organised by our industrial park and a MP was invited. At my table, there was a man age around 50 years old. He was keep on cursing and swearing at PAP before the dinner was served. Complained that he could not get money from the gov because he is jobless due to his amputated leg. Even he went to see MP Lee H L, he still not able to get money from MCYS.
Out of curiosity, I asked him: “You live in AMK GRC, so you have the chance to vote in the last election. No doubt, you must have voted Workers Party”. He said no. I asked him why. He replied, “bo bian” (obligated), he had to vote for PAP.
I asked him: “you complained so much about PAP and talk bad about PAP for not treating you good enough, and yet you still vote for PAP”?
He said he was out of no choice, must vote for PAP. This is because his son is a navy regular, he must vote for PAP in order not to jeopardize his son’s career and advancement in the navy. I was puzzled and asked him again, ” I suppose your son must be holding a Colonel rank or something higher in the navy”. He replied: “No la, he is a 2nd Sergent only” and then, everyone at the table laughed no stop after his reply. I asked him, ” do you think you and your son are so great and mighty that PAP will risk their clean reputation to deal with both of you? You think PAP will risk their reputation for a 2nd Sergent and you, a jobless guy to find out were both of you voted the opposition”? I added to him: “Stop being childish and think so highly and noble about yourself”! I asked him : “Do you think people in Hougang and Potong Pasir all send to prison after polling day”?
Well, he still disagree with my comments and blah blah blah saying that we all don’t understand, and then, curse and swear at PAP again.
This is a very typical example on a low educated and “kiasi” person.
I guess there are many such people around in Singapore having this climate of fear. From PAP and my point of view on this jobless guy, he deserved to be ignored and treated badly because of his “kiasi” and coward act.

The swiss standard of living the govt talking about some years back is far from reaching. How can we achieve that when all citizens are living in a “presure cooker” environment i.e high cost of living every day thinking of money money, competing with foreign workers in work and in space constantly fearing their jobs will be taken away from them, high medical cost fearing sickness that can cost a bomb, high oost and stress in bringing up children in this presurised environment. Stress translated into suicides, maids abuses, family problems and break up because money not eonough, stress related illness like cancer, heart attack insomia etc, men and women are balding earlier.

many times i have witness the oppositions are the real culprit for all the FEAR FACTOR!
Even if they were to win by a freak result, they will either screw up themselves or be an obedient dog!!
Look at potong pasir and hougang can they be a model oppositions constituency for others to vote for oppositions.

Not true, Toh Chin Chye, in the book by Dr Melanie Chew, said it was a PAP tactic used to frighten people in voting for merger. It worked, and they repeat the dirty trick at each and every general election. At the last election, I checked, and there was no serial number on my voting slip. But the election officer did have the counterfoil which may have a number to confirm the number of voting slips issued. The best way to settle this is to request for UN supervision for the next election, rumored to be in June 2010.

Some of us are not champion grumblers and we have valid grievances to be critical of the present dominant PAP unsounded policies being shoved to us via parliament.
It is difficult to get our constituency MP to voice our concerns in parliament as a Minister without Portfolio in th PM office, Lim Swee Say had recently said in parliament, “We are Deaf to all criticisms!”.
The Pro-foreigners PAP party had increased our population by topping up with 36 percent more new citizens of foreigners to vote for them and have also groomed around 5,000 new citizens as grassroot leaders.
The reason is to perpetuate their selfish interest to be the dominant party and enjoy their multi-million dollars annual pay packages in Singapore.
The major problem now is the stupid and silly Pro-foreigners PAP ministers is still clamouring in parliament to indiscriminately approve more foreign workers and immigrants to our country without realizing the adverse harms done to our jobless local workers who find difficulty to compete for every advertised jobs available and local citizens who have to compete with immigrants for space constraints like choosing a Primary school for our children.
More opposition members should be voted into parliament to contain further unacceptable policies from the present lousy government policy makers which cause our local taxpayers more than 60 millions dollars in their annual multi-million pay packages including 8.8 per cent increment this year.
Also need the opposition to contain Temasek Holdings manned by more than 300 staff the SS$8 billion dollars in administrative costs for the financial year 2008/2009.
Temasek Holdings with its top bitch, Ms Ho Ching and her inefficient cream of corps in 2007 are throwing taxpayers monies away by investing in troubled Bank of America Corp, Barclays Plc and Merill Lynch following the financial crisis due to the Subprime mortgage crisis which erupted in 2007.
The same goes with Government of Singapore Investment Corp (GIC) run by our top dog MM Lee for bailing out US financial institutions like UBS and Citigroup when they are also already in dire financial trouble in same year of 2007.
Both Temasek Holdings and GIC incurred loss of more than S$58 billion dollars in the year 2007 alone.
Many local native Singaporeans, displaced by cheaper younger foreigners in the work place, will not hesitate to cast their votes for the opposition given the opportunity. Starting salaries of those who found new jobs have also being much lower than in their previous jobs and more poor and jobless citizens is also a serious issue.

Too long has the GOV been “given” absolute power that it has corrupted their mind & soul. They are so afraid/insecure to lose more than two parliamentary seats that it’s constantly coming up with “Only I know what’s good for the nation tactics” to cement themselves further.
I thought: Why is there such great fear to have more opposition members in parliament even when PAP is still gov of the day? Afraid that dirty linens are being washed in public? Policies not robust to withstand scrutiny & debate?
Or maybe the FTs/PRs should form a party to contest because our current GOV are Pro-foreigners so you won’t be treated too badly or face lawsuits. Who knows… they might even allocated a few GRCs for you to manage even if you lost the election. LOL!!!

The true singaporean must recall that this gov thas betrayed the citizens by putting foreigners first and singaporeans aside, yes, aside!
we all have been brushed aside as daft, useless almost in tht eyes of the elites who complain wrongfully that we have not enough local talents to fill the posts…of course, that is true if the elites insist on singaporeans doing construction work, for instance.
why take away our decent livilihoods with decent pay that we are doing a decently good job with and give them to these foreigners?
before, you tick the ballot, just pause for a minute and go through this scene and you will surely know who to vote for or at least, who not to vote for.
let us not betray the VOTE in our hands just as the elites betray us.

Your attached ://www.islamfrominside.com/Pages/Commentary/Rules%20of%20misdirection.html BY THIS ISLAMIC SCHOLAR is certainly enlightening.
Just to add,at least magicians entertain us with their deceptions but politicians ‘entertain’ themselves with their deceptions at our expense.

To me,the greatest fear at this moment of the PAPIES is that DISENCHNATED displaced CITIZENS VOTE in the OPPOSITION.
The other fear really is whether NETIZENS like us,here @ TR can help to mobilise other singaporeans to see through their one big ploy that has made fools and paupers of all true blue ordinary citizens.

Further influx of immigrants and foreign workers will cause more of our local native citizens to become poor, depress, jobless and homeless.
To worsen our anxieties and depressions, MM Lee had recently callously remarked that Daft and Lazy Singaporeans will not have any social network to fall into since the Pro-foreigners PAP government is not a charitable organization.
So many unhappy and angry local citizens starts to become more active and adversarial citizenry.

MM lee called us Daft and Lazy as the dominant Foreign Action Party through parliament approved more immigrants and foreigners with their extremely low wages to compete with us.
Now we have to integrate with these foreigners that are making us all Jobless.
Now this Deaf Lim Swee Say himself is creating a bottleneck by stopping any critical feedback from citizens to the PM in the capacity as the Minister without Portfolio in the PM office.
Also Law Minister, Shanmugam want us to give this ruling party a clear majority in the coming general election?

The men n women in pap have one thing in common for fear. The fear that they have is more severe than the citizen fear for pap.
Pap depend on one person that is lky. And if lky dies, it’s going to be the domino fall of pap in which one by one in the pap would say good bye politics for good.
Another fear of the people in pap is the active citizens’ participation on local politics.Pap do not fear feedbacks or anything like that, but they fear one thing from the people’s voice for Full-Time MP,their question of where about the MP in their ward daily. Why is it these pap mps are well paid but they just MIA, sleeping in Parliament Chamber, awol from the ward instead of felt-presence in the ward.
The last fear of the pap towards the people and the Opposition is of course Opposition FULL-TIME MP driven by the wants of the people of Singapore.
So let me remind you all and that including myself that we need to question the position of all MPs as to whether are they serving the constituencies FULL-TIME or otherwise. We need to start some where just in time before the ‘political tsunami’ come to our local politics.
These are some findings I have come across while going many w/abouts n door to door for the past decades since 1972.

Hey, mates, saved the weblink in your PC for pleasure read and constant reminders of how political chicanery works. Send it to your politically niave or apathetic mates to wake them up. THE GREATER THE AWARENESS, THE HARDER IS FOR THOSE “MAGICIANS” TO CON THE CITIZENRY.

The 2010 TIME 100In our annual TIME 100 issue we name the people who most affect our world
Laureates Thinkers Lee Kuan Yew
By Henry Kissinger Thursday, Apr. 29, 2010
Historians have been debating, it seems forever, whether individuals shape events or are their register. There can be no doubt about the answer with regard to Lee Kuan Yew, 86, Minister Mentor of Singapore. For 50 years, he has shaped the fate of Singapore. He became Prime Minister when an obstreperous city was ejected from the Malaysian Federation on the theory that it would have to come crawling back. Lee had a different vision. The mark of a great leader is to take his society from where it is to where it has never been. When Lee took over, per capita income was about $400 a year; now it is close to $40,000. Lee inspired his polyglot population to become the intellectual and technical center of the region. Because of his leadership, a medium-size city has become a significant international and economic player, especially in fostering multilateral transpacific ties. On his periodic visits to Washington, Lee Kuan Yew is received by the President and leaders of both parties. There is no better strategic thinker in the world today. Two generations of American leaders have benefited from his counsel.
Kissinger, former Secretary of State
USA

I have to agree that the PAP’s greatest fear is when LKY dies.
I noticed many of our MPs and Ministers are not True Politicians.
They are “Groomed” to be as such.
So, when the old man gone, everyone will fall apart.
They dont have the capability to govern a state.

I agree with you to a point. Not that the old man has been so respectfully successful ever since the 1st & 2nd leaders left the scene most humbly and respectfully in contrast to him. His way of governing is by cheats through lies. It is all over the place in the last 25 to 30 yrs and they all proof those Mind Boggling rhetoric of his! Unfortunately and fortunately for him, far too many Singaporeans are so into daily needs, they lack the WITHAL for the higher things in life of morality and accountability. It is no wonder they are SO VERY MYOPIC! Sad but true. As that’s what made old man look like a ’strong’ leader! Strong that way is as in “Strength due to the weaknesses of others! PERIOD old man an do please go back to “your sea” as we natives has had enough of you in OUR LAND!

I disagree: PAP’s greatest fear is when racism dies out in Singapore and genuine meritocracy begins.
Without that key theme uniting some people, they have nothing in common except incompetency.

Clement Tan,
I agree with your point too.
Thats why I did mentioned the key is on LKY.
The rest of the MPs and Ministers are “followers”.
We Singaporeans realised that LKY is racist.
Otherwise we should not have the “Speak Mandarin Campaign” for decades. When the campaign did not work very well, he bring the Mandarin (PRCs) here. This is a Race divided.
They brought in Hindi speaking Indians to create unhappiness amongst the Tamil speaking Singapore Indians.
Who do you think approved Yaacob Ibrahim to asked the Malay graduates to leave this country? And Why?
Obviously he DID NOT want Singaporeans to be united.

NilaUtama (Pendatang Indonesia. Betul?)
Racism in Singapore? Racism is measured by outmigration. Meaning you and your famnily uproot and leave your inhospitable, racist homeland for a better place.
The Malaysian Chinese numbered 44% in the 1960s in Malaysia. Today it’s only 22%. Many have migrated to Australia, Singapore, Canada, HK, etc. since the 70s because of the apartheid “bumi-non bumi” NEP which was legislated in 1971 by the majority UMNO in power.
The same cannot be said for the minorities here even with the bumi carrot dangling across the causeway they prefer to live like in HK, Taiwan and China in Singapore; meaning the competition, food, lifestyle, the vices, the freedom, the impartiality, the law, the affluence, the security, the education system, etc., here are good. Well, the WORLD judges and evn voted an 86-year old insignificant 700 sq km grand MM – in the top 100 in TIMES amaonst 6 500 000 000 people!
No Mongolian C4, no pseudo Red Indian stuff . . . .

Orang Laut.
I would choose to focus on Singapore Politics without digress.
I notice there are some posters prefer to compare Singapore with other countries.{almost everything).
Malaysia was also known as Malaya. Its the land of the Malays.
I hope it will answer all the queries.
So does China. Its the land of the Chinese.

“Malaysia was also known as Malaya. Its the land of the Malays.”
Go back to school lah. Not bumi school; real school. The original aborigine natives of Malaya are the Orang Asli. Ask any fool who also knows the answer. Check up the internet – Orang Asli.
Mamakthir is Indian descent; Najib is Indonesian (Bugis) descent, Krisshammudin is Turkish descent, etc . . .
Jagang bohon lah (Don’t bluff).
No wonder Sang Nila Utama said he saw a lion (singa). Lions are Africans i.e. from Africa. What a joke . . .

Orang Laut,
Orang Asli itself is a Malay word.
No matter what descent Mahathir, Najib and Hishamuddin have, as long as they protect the Malays, they are eligable to lead Malaysia.
Sang Nila Utama saw a lion is a “children story” wrote by Brits “approval”.
Lots of mislead history wrote by the British during colonial occupation.
To elaborate further will be out of context.
Thank You.

in singapore, in your monthly cpf contribution, more than 50% of the total sum goes to your medisave and special account (what is special account? no one knows???) on top of that you still have to pay up your personal income tax yearly (and that’s robbery)in the end with your balance sum in your OA, they sell you their hdb flats with sky rocketed pricing (as a matter of fact, its leasing for 99 years only)and to sum up all these, every single dollar you made, the ruling party took away almost 70cts and leaving you with that mere 30cts to rot till you die while they happily rewarding themselves with millions of the taxpayers contribution. Now, do you still want to vote for the papies?
