Letter to Government: Renaming of Toa Payoh to China Town?

Dear Government,

Having lived in Toa Payoh for just 3 short years, I would like to request that our little town be renamed China Town. You see, thanks to the easy migrating criteria that we have for “Foreign talents”, I’m now proud to say that every other chinese that you come across in Toa Payoh, is a PRC. And I’m by no means exagerrating, because right down to the “foreign talent” that makes my teh(tea) to the one that cooks what used to be my favourite hokkien prawn mee and chow kway teow, are all PRCs. My daily meals have never been more bland.
toapayoh
While i am all for foreign talents contributing to our economy and society(as is the model template answers always given), I have to question what these “talents” bring to the table when they gather nearly everyday and night at the void decks talking loudly and crudely in their native tongues, cook our very bland and DISTINCTLY singaporean dishes and of course occupying our flats. While the prices of HDB increases like our foreign talents, I would like to know if there is anyone governing rogue real estate agents as well as landlords who lease out brand new flats to such beloved talents?

Toa Payoh is no longer the place I call home, but a squatters’ paradise. Of course you do not have to take my word for it, just do a random SURPRISE inspection on these flats, namely the new blocks, Block 79A-E of toa payoh central and you will agree with me. Heck, just take a walk aound toa payoh central please.

And you wonder why people are leaving Singapore?

Leonard Lim
A Concerned Singaporean

  • new flats with PRCs?:

PRCs have the privilege to stay in new flats?

citizens who don’t qualify to buy new flats have to wait 5 years for the flat to age before they are qualified to attempt to get them on the resale market.

can a PRC please teach me how they got to stay in the new flats? as a singaporean citizen, I envy your home in Singapore, which happens to be my country. Would you like to join me in my country and permanently share these new flats with me?

This is the lop-sided policy the PAP government make when they consider what benefits them (not the citizen).

If you want to see more of these foreign trash balik kampung back to where they come from, please stop voting for PAP.

I know, they have made a lot of promises and pretend to lend you a symphathetic ear to all your gripes and grouses, but i tell you, after they won the elections all their promises will vanished into thin air.

One fine day, when you go look for a job in Singapore, you will find that the HR managers and the interviewers are mostly PRC people. Then I will say a BIG THANK YOU to you goondoos who voted in the PAP.

You voted in the PAP, you created this mess. So if you have really, whole-heartedly voted in the PAP, then I suggest you shut your gaps and live the life you chose.

For me, it is a forgone decision, democracy in Singapore is dead. The PAP ruled with totalitarian and authoritarian style, they have seized the news media by the throat and enslaved the citizen through the CPF and HDB schemes.

If you want to a change, then you MAKE that CHANGE, when election comes. Remember.

Yes agree with ’sad’. Easily and very aptly, our new name should be Chinkapore or Chinkapoor, or even Sindia why not?
Padang can rename as Beijing Square, Shenton Way to Shangton Way, Jurong to Wurong, Chinatown (Gu Chia Chui) to Guangdong Place, etc etc. Bird park perhaps rename to Nancheow Yuan.

Remember the days of our forefathers? They were chinese immigrants from china … it was an exodus of the chinese into the world and sadly has been hated. They persevered … that’s how had we arrived, made this our country, our home. BECAUSE OUR CHINESE IMMIGRANT FORFATHERS PERSEVERED!

Today, this is another “exodus” and we, the younger generation, are feeling the competition and struggle.

To many of us, these PRCs may be “crude”, “barbaric” and “unhygenic” but then have you thought what OUR forefathers were like when they came? I’m sure they were like that too cos that may be the culture in China.

Come on guys, give these people a chance to live and improve among us. I’m sure given time and I’m sure they’ll learn and improve their standard and eventually blend in with us.

Come on, Singaporeans … give these people a run for their money! Fair play in competition will only make us stronger!

Dont be complacent … why are these PRCs cooking our meals? Ask the stall owers! Because they are willing to pay a higher rent for the stall and these owners want to live life the FAST-BUCK-WAY!!!

Dont be too fast and critical to blame these hard-working PRCs … they come so far to forge a better live for themselves … this is history relived …

maybe the PRCs rented these flats which are still new, less than 5 years old. that’s why you see so many around. possible?

that’s why all my friends do not want to sell their flats, they want to keep forever and rent forever, thanks to the sudden change in law 4 years ago in tune with the sudden change of immigration policy.

another set of friends, however, are now unable to buy anything at all because nobody wants to sell. all want to keep to rent to the next 1.5 million people coming in over the next 15 years.

it all happened quite suddenly, over one fine day in around 2006. roughly when the new government took power.

You cannot simply rename a town, you dodo!

There are political friends and bootlickers to be paid off first.

So we must set a Renaming Toa Payoh Committee, yes just like the Renaming of Marina Bay committee. Spend 10s of millions to your cronies and bootlickers and then do a massive campaign.

When everyone has been paid, Rename Toa Payoh Town as Toa Payoh Town!!

    3 cheers for PAP!!!

Once upon a time Singaporean pity the Chinese in China and felt sad that they scarcely have enough to eat. Relatives hop on the fastest plane to China and give them color TV and start to think of themselves as philanthropist. Today they face each other as enemy because local are jealous of the PRC who are ever hardworking and turn out they are better.

Ask their employer who are mainly local to get rid of these PRC and employ their fellow man, they probably chased you down the alley and use their wok to knock you off. It is a long lost battle for the local and business cannot survive without PRC anymore. Give up the fight and work hard to establish yourself as the better workers, there is no way out. Mind you if the PRC is gone, the food at your food center will surely double and there you will cry even louder. LOL…

I know what you think. You want to vote out PAP and scare the hell out of them so that they will chase your nemesis out of Singapore. Sad to tell you it is useless. No opposition is strong enough to take on PAP. PAP can easily form the next government in the coming election by securing enough seats from the walk over.

After this election is over, there will be enough PRC turn citizen who are ready to vote PAP in the next and next and next election. Long live PAP. So capitulate and give up hope of ever winning the stand off. LOL. Vote PAP now if you are smart. Your vote is not really very very secret, you can put your father and mother in trouble if you never vote properly. At least don’t try to spoil your vote. Be ready… the general election will be coming because the ground is softening. LOL.. PAP…. PAP…. Nobody can beat you because you are the most credible party in Singapore….

There are so many streets named after non Chinese since independence. Why no one is having a cow about that? Tsk, tsk. With the new ingredients in town, it’s certainly more entertaining when one knows how to introduce them to local dishes. When you have rice, make porridge, if you don’t like it bland, spice it up, Singapore style. Same thing with these PRCs and whatever spice loving race new ashore, if you can’t beat them, it’s best to beat them at it. Delicious…….

Kicking foreigners back to their kampungs? Be realistic, this phenomenon has been a tool for other governments to win votes. It is not an ingenious invention and it is irreversible. So Singaporeans or Chinkaporeans, looks like it’s a marriage made for good for you for a long time coming. But don’t get mad….get comfortable. Then again, ‘original’ Singaporeans can always give preferential treatment to certain FTs? That would surely make the new ‘chinkaporeans’ mighty jealous, eh what?

The Housing Board’s inspectors are sleeping like Rip Van Winkle. Whole HDB flats are being rented out to PRCs. Say a three room flat has two rooms. Each room will be occupied by 4 PRCs paying $10 per day or $300 per month. So a three room HDB can fetch the owners $2400 per month tax free.

If a sweep by the HDB is done at Toa Payoh, let me tell you that you won’t get angry and exasperated writers like Leonard Lim airing his disgust.

Your confession below of Pigs-and-Poo thinking tells us all about the IMMIGRATION SCAM – it is the politics of election, not the economics snake-oil saleman’s preaching as we all know.

“After this election is over, there will be enough PRC turn citizen who are ready to vote PAP in the next and next and next election..”

But unlike you, PRs are NOT stupid, they know your little poo-laden scam. They won’t condemn their futures taking citizenship here and find it harder to migrate latter to Australia, Canada, EU, USA or New Zeland, who won’t want recycled waste from one rubbish dump to another looking for greener pastures. Most will be smart enough to just hold their PRs and reap whatever they can before this place crash to no rescue – given stupid frogs managing this economy. There will be plenty of free-loaders but no voters. No soldiers left to defend this country when crisis comes and you are too old a chicken to be acceptable for migration to any of the first world preferred destination. NOT even to a whore house to rebuild your life from scratch. All your assets and children, mother, father, ah kong and ah mah will rot in this rubbish dump here whilst we have long migrated to distant shores.

How stupid you are of being misled and fooling your stupidity around thinking PRs are just as stupid are you.

BUT IT IS STILL KIND OF YOU TO LET US KNOW OF YOUR NOT-SO-WELL-HIDDEN SCAM.

WE ARE READY TO PLAY YOUR GAME TO OUR ADVANTAGE. THANK YOU FOR THAT.

Top talents are globolized and move in and out of countries with much ease especially those who has got money. If you take for instant Cristiano Ronaldo, if he wants to be a Singaporean, even opposition take over as government, they can’t stop him from coming over. The people of the country will hate the government of the day if they reject his citizenry. Maybe you are referring to this type of quality which I will not dispute as being transient but if you are talking about the average PR’s Joe, maybe you think too highly of them already. The average PRs are from India and China which counted the most I think, they will have difficulty migrating to the countries you mentioned unless they master their English and polish their image. They will be happy to be here but they will urge you to go because you speak English better than them. They will take over you and your HDB so that you can migrate. After you have left maybe the price of HDB will come down a little and their children can start enjoying market subsidy. Hopefully you land in a country that accumulate surpluses otherwise you can be jobless and live with black people in the gutter where gunshot is heard almost everyday.

When there is war, we won’t fight our enemy with human beings, especially with Singaporean because they are too unreliable, only know how to complain, we will use technology. We will use unman drone to destroy the enemy home and expand our country. Once mission accomplished we will invite the best in the world to take residency.

Look at all the PR standing at the sideline gleefully, waiting to take over once you vacate. LOL…

As a PAP supporter, even my support for them has been deeply eroded since the last general election. I have doubts if their policies really have us at heart. They import massive amount of foreigners to boost GDP at the expense of productivity. Why? I guess mainly because their salaries are pegged to GDP growth.

The large influx of foreigners and drop in productivity led to a decline in Singaporean wages. Sometimes, the import of foreigners was done unfairly and ended up discriminating against Singaporeans. Ask our Singaporean tertiary students in the local universities and polytechnics who have to pay rising school fees while their foreign counterparts are enjoying free education and paid allowances.

Now, as this article shows, even Chinese Singaporeans are complaining about the massive influx of PRC foreigners. So, how are our Malay and Indian compatriots feeling? It is quite obvious the Malay and Indian ground support for PAP have been decimated by PAP foreign worker policies. They did themselves in. Many of the new foreigners (the old ones 10 years ago were much better) are just mediocre doing jobs which Singaporeans can do and want to do. By depriving Singaporeans of jobs and the job experience, Singapore will be in deep trouble when these PRC workers go back home. This is quite possible given the brighter prospects of China. What we end up is skill-less Singaporeans because they were deprived of work by cheaper foreigners over the years. The foreign workers who go home will take our secrets and skills away when they return home to compete against us. I think this will be a major policy mistake. This is a self-created foreign competition. But, of course, nobody in government will admit it. Probably, they will just blame it on external factors like globalization.

With so many foreigners taking up PMET jobs and in management positions, Singaporeans will be discriminated during the recruitment process. It is human nature to work with people they are comfortable with. This means their own kind of people. I will do the same if I am hiring people. In fact, being a Singaporean, although I am Chinese, I have preferences for Malay Singaporeans or Indian Singaporeans over China/Indian foreign workers, all other things being equal. We Singaporeans regardless of race have suffered through NS and the reservist burden together. This have bonded us together regardless of race and religion. We have done our fair share of sacrifice for the country. Why should these foreigners enjoy privileges close to ours??!!

I have an Singaporean Indian friend who is now looking for a job. I really feel for him because I myself have been unemployed before. I hope he finds a suitable job soon.

@anonymous: it is sad but true, singaporeans by and large are quite daft, that’s why LKY labelled us as such, this is because we always fell for the sweet talks and empty promises dished out by PAP ministers. You see, Singaporeans so easy to con.

@IsThisUnfair: like i said ealier in the comment, don’t be surprise if you walk into a job interview and got interviewed by PRC or indian national. With this high speed, mass import if foreigners, thanks to Mr. dick head LHL, soon the foreigner/PR will out-number us and true-blue, local born singaporeans will be the out-cast.

@puttumayam: What you say is true, just go to any shopping centres, MRT, all crowd like hell. Maybe when the indian workers start to gather and sit on the grass patch outside oxley road then LHL will start to realize his mistake.

I won’t be surprise in the next election Singpaoreans will still vote for PAP. The kiasunism and Kaisinism mentality would be rather than voting for the uncertainty it is better to be safe to vote PAP. At the end of the day PAP will introduce more migrants to shut us up. By then we will truely be minority.

I believe it is the older (my) generation, especially the womenfolks but the men ( who at least are kept informed via the alternative media) are turning direction more and more. They know what cancerous cells have infected the social-economic and political fabric of this country. The irony is that some women wants financial security yet afraid to take that small step of a leap in faith to secure that financial security – better the known devil of unknown consequences than hedging with hope of new direction.

A lot of older disillusioned businessmen – even the “successful” ones who feared for their children future have turned against the PAP. This group is definitely NOT daft but actually battle-tested and proven street smart to have progress so much in their own lives. They see “big picture” deterioration and not easy to uproot their business and long established network here to migrate abroad. They don’t trust the Government.

    How can we then?

After licking the arse of foreigners and “Cobweb of deceits” farted a rotten big one up your nostril, you are Missing In Action (MIA) here. Hope you have not suffered permanent head damage by his most timely, well-angled, perfect targetted, ungracious and inconsiderate gas emission.

I am deeply concerned about your humiliated state of mental health now after your a*se-licking enthusiasm for shitty ancestral kinship backfired so badly on this thread. You are noticeably absent of ghostly presence here.

    Where are you?

I go to many kopitiams, and most of these idiots are cooking our national dishes.

Very bland, some tasteless. And I hate it when China PRCs mock that my mandarin is not good enough for their understanding because I’m a Chinese and that I should know how to speak it properly.

Fuck these assholes, English is my first language and if they are not happy, they shouldn’t even be here. Fuck this government too! For bringing cheebyes here like that! Fucking cunts!

People who argue that Singaporeans should suck it up and compete with foreigners overlook a fundamental principle. That is the government is elected to SERVE its people.

Yes, globalization is inevitable BUT every government’s role is to ensure that it remains economically competitive as well as ensure it’s citizens are growing with the country. You cannot pursue the former and ignore the latter.

On a personal note, my gf, who is a property agent had a disturbing encounter with a PRC looking for a place. He is cash rich, residing in a HDB flat, but cashing in on it to buy a condo. His main request: The new condo he is looking for must not have any Malays residing in it.

This is very disturbing. I might be over generalizing, but nevertheless, it goes to show the type of immigrants we are letting in. Our loose policies have allowed them to be masters in our own home.

The government is naive to think that throwing money on integration ra ra will make them Singaporeans in a day. As easily as they come, as easily they will go once they find other greener pastures.

A Malaysian here and my friend happened to show me this article. I somehow find this writer either to be very ignorant of his past or simply dense. Firstly he is complaining that a lot of migrants are migrating to his beloved homeland. But did he check his family tree? Where were his ancestors from? Born in Singapore? I dont think so. I dont think he has the right to complain.

The land in which the writer resides in belongs to Sultan of Johore and the indigenous people of Singapore and they are not complaining about giving up lands, water, and soil for Chinese whose ancestors incidentally came from China then why are you complaining. Incidentally I am a Chinese from Malaysia and I dont think my race is above other races. I accept that my ancestors came to south east asia and plundered the land.

FTs are good, who said they were bad.
It is good to get decent talent and not any Ching,Chang and Thambi, from wherever they want to come from.

The pimp is PAP, for letting so many in, prostituting Singapore.

Even we will go, if given a chance to place, like Sweden or Norway, or even Australia. So don’t blame people who try wanting a better life. Blame the PAP for letting so many in without proper talent.

Toa payoh will soon be renamed as Ta-Ba-Yau to facilitate easy understanding for new FT. In fact, all the streets in spore will soon be given a HanyuPinYin name to facilitate undertanding for new Citizens and FTs as they will soon make up more than 50% of the 10 million population.

I resent the fact that I have PRC neighbours on the right, and Burmese on my left. Yet here I am, a full-blooded Singaporean being ousted from my flat because HDB policy does not allow me as a divorcee to have a public housing roof over my head.

I witnessed an interesting incident on my bus ride (#963 from Woodlands Interchange) last Friday. Someone hailed the bus at a stop before Bukit Panjang Plaza and asked in mandarin if the bus was going to “po di”(town). The PRC driver and a colleague seated behind him were stumpled by the question and answered that it was going to Harbour Front. Then later the two colleagues were figuring out the question and both came to a conclusion that the question was in English!
