Singapore netizens up in arms over rental of HDB flat by YPAP leader Sinha Shekhar
A massive outcry has erupted in Singapore cyberspace over the rental of a resale HDB flat by YPAP leader and new citizen from India Mr Sinha Shekhar.
Mr Sinha Shekhar made the admission unwittingly on the REACH Facebook two days ago:

[Source: REACH Facebook]
In the above exchange, Mr Sinha Shekhar, who works as a speech therapist at Thye Hua Kwan Hospital, wrote that he paid “really high” for a resale HDB flat and the rent he is collecting is not enough to pay for the bank instalments.
Mr Sinha also revealed that he owns a private property, implying that he bought the resale HDB flat NOT for staying but for renting and making money.
Though Mr Sinha has since deleted his comments, its snapshot continues to be circulated and reposted on many Singapore internet chatrooms such as Hardwarezone, Channel News Asia and the 3in1 kopitiam.
Our first article on the story garnered more than 100 comments in less than a day.
Many netizens question if Mr Sinha has broken HDB regulations by renting his HDB flat while staying in a private property at the same time, prompting a few to lodge a complaint to HDB as well as YPAP Chairman Teo Ser Luck.
Under HDB rules, owners of private properties are allowed to purchase resale flats in the open market, but they have to stay in the flat.
The issue is a contentious one among Singaporeans who are increasingly priced out of the public housing market by the relentless increase in price caused partly by the influx of foreigners like Mr Sinha Shekhar.
PRs make up some 20 percent of buyers of resale HDB flats and they often have the financial means to pay higher than market rates for choice flats in premier locations.
In the meantime, Mr Sinha Shekhar and Mr Teo Ser Luck continue to maintain a “dignified” silence over the controversy surrounding the YPAP.
Not too long, YPAP member Eric How caused a similar stir by calling Singaporeans derogatory names. He was advised to make a police report later by Mr Teo that he has been “impersonated” on Facebook.
The comments are indeed posted by Mr Sinha Shekhar who has more than 660 friends on his Facebook including some PAP MPs like Mr Teo himself.
Surely the YPAP will not be so stupid to use the same excuse again to wriggle themselves out of the situation.

Don’t think that foreigners are poor and stupid. They are cunning enough to see the loopholes in LKY system and exploit them to their advantage. More and more of these foreigners coming here will create instability, chao and contaminate our culture. PAP government better wake up from sleeping over your millions dollar salaries.

In the old days, a PAP or YPAP member could be seen genuinely serving the people or the rakyat with dedication and without any expecation of rewards unlike today, what we have seen lately are all opportunities and calling themselves elites or Men In White, and this is the right time to say no more benefits for these elites cum opportunists…….sad this is happening in our Modern Singapore and we all as Ordinary Singaporeans must pray to our respective God, Allah, Buddha, Kwang Ying etc that we can have a good Opposition Leader who is equal or perhaps better than these elites in the PAP and YPAP and give them a run for their money (he must be a local born and must come from the majority ethnic group ie local born Singaporean Chinese).

To HAYOO!, This Sinha guy is a YPAP member and Teo Ser Luck is the boss of YPAP mah. How can YPAP members, who are supposed to be our future S’pore Ministers and leaders, be flouting the laws of Singapore? Teo Ser Luck should do some housekeeping mah… why let all these opportunists into YPAP? Can we trust these sort of people to be our future leaders? Can you imagine one day, Sinha Shekhar becomes our Minister of Mational Development in charge of HDB?

Last time, i thought foreigners here for 1 or 2 years only may not understand how the system works.
I learnt that they are smarter than I thought.
They know about the FT policy and they most prolly understand how some singaporeans are also affected.
The door is open for them.
Anyone in their shoes would do the same and walk right in.
Lets brace ourselves.
Lets also know how it all started.
U and me, we are responsible.

I thought I mentioned already.
PM Lee personally need to take care of new media, including REACH.
If this useless PM does not ask YPAP to ’shut up and sit down’, then he will have big trouble soon.

To sublet the entire flat, you need to satisfy the condition of a 3-year or 5-year Minimum Occupation Period (MOP).
You are allowed to sublet your whole flat if you have occupied your:
Non-subsidised flat (flat purchased from the open market without a CPF housing grant) for at least 3 years, or

“Meanwhile, housing cost rose 1.6 per cent due to higher electricity and gas tariffs”
assume that rent is a large part of housing cost. assume that rent is very cheap – $1000 for a flat a month, or $12000 a year.
if housing cost rose 1.6% year-on-year, it would cost $12192 a year now. they’re blaming the increase, $192, on higher electricity and gas tariffs. that’s $16 more a month. you people got use $16 more a month of electricity or gas ah?
if the flat rents out for $2000 a year, that means the cost went up $384 a year, or $32 a month. you people got use $32 more a month of electricity or gas ah?
if not, then perhaps the visionary explanation that rising housing cost is due to electricity and gas might be just hot air.
hands up who knows why housing cost is on the rise.

Someone should leave on Sinha Shekhar facebook all pertinent questions regarding his disclosures of ownership of a HDB investment property while owning and concurrently living in another private condo since this matter has generate so much public interests. Ask for his confirmation or denial of intense public speculation on this subject-matter.
Politely ask him for his full cooperation as his disclosures have attracted so much public attention, interest and curiosity. As a YPAP grassroot leader, he should not be shy to discuss and display public leadership appropriate to his assessed stature and leadership by example. In particular, ask him for awareness of the law of subletting HDB property, ask him if he is satisfied with his compliance of those law, and to avoid doubt, would he be voluntarily providing relevant information to HDB directly to provide clarity of confused, perhaps, public attention since this subject matter is so hot in the public domain. Ask him if he would seek advice from his well-informed PAP party colleagues on this topic, and what great advice he may have received from who since the intense public interest in his facebook.
Let us see how he respond to each of these queries.

Better get out of their uncarring face if YOU Shitizens still want to survive on bread crumps in Sinkapore or you will all end up living in Changi Prison.

OK, he may be citing a quote but it is tantamount to calling critics dogs.
Why not we launch a police report against him so that the police can investigate him? Clearly he is sowing social discord and this is classified as causing disharmony in Singapore. He should be arrested and charged in court.
Anyone interested to do it? Count me in.

Sinha Shekhar has to do NS, otherwise shut up for good.
I don’t know where he got his training from, but I know that medical or related degrees from India are really of low standard.
Let us hope property prices drop for the benefit of all.

Just you watch.
When this sort of thing is done by a born bred S’porean, you can most certainly be assured that the authorities will be on our errant fellow countrymen like a ton of bricks.
Let’s just see how this piece of foreign dog shit can wiggle out of this. My guess is that the authorities would deal with this infraction with “extreme leniency” by just giving this dog shit a slap on the wrist.

If you wish to go all out on Indian nationals, i am all up for it cause I also agree that the govt is at fault here. Calling indians black and dirty – well mother fucker! you are on your own here cause I have NO time on RACISM.
I believe many Singaporeans are with me here! don’t be racist and focus on the issue.

To JW, Sinha fella where got to NS one? HAHA! You’d be lucky if he send his son (if he has one) to do NS…. HAHAHA!
Most of the these FTs are not that committed one lah. LKY gave the go ahead to import them en-mass after his son’s embarrassing 2006 election result, hoping that more will become SG citizens – they will sure vote for PAP one. The result is, most are happy to stay as PRs, generally speaking. Even for those new SG citizens, most are not committed to send their sons to do NS. Most of these fellas will later return home or go to other countries.
Look at Li Jiawei, where is her family now? Whole family including her SG born son is living in Beijing. You think she will send her son to do NS? Likely, she will get her son to renounce his SG citizenship later… esp if you are raised and brought up outside of Singapore in those crucial early years…

It is an understatement to say that the govt of LHL is going to the dogs. The only consolation for aggrieved Singaporeans is that all these are signs of a dynasty in decay – that the dictatorship of one Lee family is at its lowest point before it tips over into inevitable ruin and chaos and anarchy. Let’s hope that the revolution that is soon to come is a quiet one with the whimpering Lees, with whatever little sense of morals and dignity they still have, leaving quietly by the backdoor tails between the legs.

Most FTs here are mere FREE RIDERS riding free here in our country.
the fault lies with the daft govt and their equally daft policy implementations.
The kind of FT that we see in this ‘SHAKER’ SinHa is just the outcome of the kind of due diligence carried out by the MIWs and their people.
What defines a TALENT,local or foreign?
I am sure the smart As student turned PRESIDENT scholars turned MIWs know full well.
In place of countless of daft Foreign Trash,THIS DAFT govt has destroyed a whole multitude of true honest LCAL TALENTs,sad to say.
Talented and honest executives from across industries such as BANKING and Finance,IT and HEALTCARE have been relegated to the ‘FORMER RTS’(roam the strees),made truly REDUNDANT and relatively ‘relatively’ unemployable in due course due to age and connectivity with the jobs market.
The ministers who have been in the MOM and NTUC over the last 10-15 YEARS are largely to be balmed for contributing to this current mess.
However, instead of getting bashed accordingly, they have been futher rewarded with some kind of ‘RETIREMENT’ posts, either in govt or in glvt-related organs.
In the USA,even famous and respected guys like GREENSPAN and others got bashed after their ‘QUIET’ retiremet.
Here, not only do the culprits go scotfree, they can even PUT the BLAME on the innoncent victims, the citizens.
WHAT A MESS and what a SHAME indeed!

It is sad that our citizenship is given to such a foreign ‘talent’ and that $10 mil is allocated to help people like him to fit into our society.
Flouting HDB rules and only a Ypap member he is already displaying such arrogance in refering a certain group of Singaporeans as ‘dogs’. This FT comes from a country with a sad history of ethnic and racial strife! He should know better not to upset our harmony here.

Right! Chinese or Indian Singaporeans are Singaporeans. We are completely different in thinking and outlook from PRCs and Indian Nationals. After close to 50 years of independence, we are completely Singaporeanized. The most important difference, we all got NS and reservist liabilities. These free loaders don’t… remember that…

What nonsense Kojakbt. Indians are hardly ‘Indians’ in the singapore of today. They are ‘chinesified’ singaporeans. Not very witty, not too critical, quite inept at metaphorical and metaphysical thought, averse to contradiction, etc. Given the overarching chinese milieu, fragmentation of the non-chinese via the HDB quota system, the need to adapt to the chinese way of thinking in order to get a job or promotion, the saturation of the media with the chinese view of things, singlish being an amalgam of Chinese dialects and English as opposed to Malay and Tamil, coffeeshops playing chinese programmes on the telly, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc – do you think that any culture will not suffer dilution, or its practitioners assimilation? Especially after half a century?
Come on mate. Get real here. Being any ‘race’ requires a complementary and reinforcing overarching culture. Without that, the family or communal unit itself cannot contribute much unless most of the above conditions aren’t true. There is greater similarity between the chinese of singapore and the PRCs than the SG Indians and Indian Indians. What do you think this says mate.
Your ’singaporean’ basically means nothing other than the identity that emerges when the ‘majority’ culture is elevated over all others, and all others assimilate for fear of exclusion, or want of similar others.

To ed, you’d be surprised. PRCs don’t see us Chinese Singaporeans as “Han” people. They see us as “fake westerners”…(like the character in Lu Xun’s “Story of Ah Q”). I’ve talked to many PRCs and that’s their general opinion. To me, that’s fine. I see this as an identity of Singaporean…

Thye Hua Kwan Hospital should sack Mr Sinha Shekhar. He is taking advantage of the STUPID Policies of PAP Govt. Imagine there were 1 million Mr Sinha Shekhar that buy HDB Flat this way, When it is our LOCAL Singaporean turns to buy, w e wouldn’t have any means to buy it at all, in the end we all live in parents or stay in slum or in botanic gardens.
It is a time for a change of govt. If we do not change the govt, There will be 1 mln, 2 mln, 3 mln , 4 mln or such Foreign Talents.

Aahhhh …. the racist singaporean chinese chauvinism rears its ugly head. I blame the swearing (as opposed to stating well-thought arguments) on the PAP-imposed ban on free-thinking. Even in school: memorise and regugitate. Don’t question, just accept. Have to resort to swearing instead. Pathetic.
