STTA to start raising funds from Singaporeans for FTs in table-tennis team

ttchampThe Singapore Table-Tennis Association (STTA) has set up a Sports Fund for its prized “foreign talents” in the table-tennis team which will include financial and medical assistance and even retirement plans.

According to a Channel News Asia report, sponsors have contributed a whooping $189,000 to the fund so far.

The women’s team made history by beating China in the World Championships lately, but its victory was soured by cynicism among Singaporeans that the trophy was won by “China rejects” and not true blue Singaporeans.

The three players on the team – Sun BeiBei, Wang Yuegu and Feng Tianwei are all born in China, with Feng receiving her Singapore citizenship only in 2008.

Despite the prevailing public sentiment, PAP leaders continue to lend support to its controversial “Foreign talent” sports policy at the expense of Singaporeans, with Minister of Community, Youth and Sports Dr Vivian Balakrishnan slamming its critics as “small-minded”.

PAP MP Lee Bee Wah, who is incidentally the president of the Singapore Table Tennis Association, said:

“I will definitely assure Singaporeans that we will continue to work hard and we hope to bring more glory to Singapore.”

STTA will be selling some 20,000 limited edition ‘Champions’ NETS FlashPay cards featuring the five team members, none of whom are born in Singapore.

Each card costs S$18, and S$8 from that goes towards the fund.

It is not known if the funds collected will go towards the retirement plans of players who have since returned to China such as Zhang Xueling and Li Jiawei.

HELLO as a fellow residence from your ward, I am disgusted by your actions over the years, those banners ugly pictures hanging on every lamp posts and railings in the estate, and those ego photos of you on calendar every year! If you dream to be Oprah Winfrey, please don’t! At least Oprah won’t think of raising funds for already rich imports but help groom the locals!!!!!!

They need money to buy food, not at the “hawker centre, food court

There is a saying in Malay, when roughly translated, it goes like this: Your own child at home is dying of starvation, and yet you continue to feed the monkey’s baby in the forest out there with milk.

    How apt!

There is nothing STTA to be proud about. The glories are bought not nurtured. If STTA has shown more sincerity to nurture local players I am sure SIngaporeans would go all out to support the good cause.

Come on we all know Singapore is not top notch in sports especially table tennis, and why spent money to woo foreign players (ok they are SIngaporean now) to bring us few medals. How many of us actually play table tennis in school?

I rather see money spent in nurtuting the little ones in schools than to spurge on foreingn players. Thus, any medals brought in do not represent Singapore and there is nothing to cheer about, except padding between few people up there.

STTA should not beg for donations for these FTs after all as the then PM GCT said they are actually quitters from their home country! Instead we should help those current stayers or Sporeans who are suffering from the high costs of living although we were promised a Swiss standard of living many years back! Instead we have a recent FT giving Spore a Swiss standard of living via vandalism!
Actually these merceneries millionaires should have contributed themselves without bothering Sporeans! Like the so-called President’s Challenge Charity; the President need not contribute to ‘challenge’ by way of say $ for $; instead the President keeps his $5m annual salary and just become a yes-man! Easy job at the expense of taxpayers!

What exactly is the role of Ms Lee Bee Wah? Beside chairing the table tennis team and getting into tussle with ex-China coach, what exactly has she contributed to the sports environment in Singapore?

To bring in foreign players and few medals are simple solutions to put Singapore on lists amongst nations that are strong in sports.
In reality, its money exchange behind the scene to “buy” the players into Singapore. We should ask ourselves do we really care if the foreign players scrore medals and how relevance it is for us to connect with them. The arrangemnt is I give you S’pore passport and you score medal for me. Essentially it is a business exchange but the deal is dressed up to mellow the effect, and make it look patriotic that foreingn players are loyal to Singapore.

OMG, this jamban woman is asking Singaporeans to donate money to the already rich FT table-tennis players?? and to look after their livlihood
after they have scooped enough money when they retire eventually???
    It simply defies human logic!!
Are the FT players so hard-up??
Are they starving or are they picking empty cans to keep ends meet??
Come on get real!! they are better off than most working Singaporeans!!
Does this jamban woman know how difficult it was to increase the monthly allowance of the destitutes by just $30?? The $30 issue was debated in Parliament and was finally passed with the infamous remark by our Minister of MCYS!
The jamban woman is focusing the wrong target to show her graciousness or
whatever you want to call it.

Why should we donate to STTA and the Bitch Wah? Local Born Singaporean interests should be taken care off first. THE HDB, Monthly Wages, Baby Expense, Monthly Allowance for Elder Parents, alredy, we were told by the govt to take care by ourself. Shouldn’t STTA and Lee Bitch Wah take care by themselves alone. Lee, you have to listen to Mr Gan Man Power Minister slogan. save by yourselves.

You unhappy your business. You don’t donate there are many people would. PAP loves these ping pong gals and hope to raise some money for them to go back to visit their family in China. They will be happy to encourage more ping pong players and educate them of our 10 million dollars integration program so as to achieve more foreigners for Singapore.

When on earth does the PAP cares what you think? To them you are selfish, small minded and opportunist who does not want them to earn heavenly salaries. PAP need not care about how you vote, the most important is that the opposition does not have enough candidates and deposit to contest in the forth coming election resulting in PAP walk over. With infighting and disharmony, the opposition cannot win anything.

Once voted in PAP can restart their foreign workers tsunami and they will make it cheaper, better and faster for these people to come into Singapore to replace the locals. MIW will ensure their salary will be doubled before the next next election to showcase their abilities. Just how marvelous is the PAP. Come next election there should be more new citizens than old citizens and these new citizens would surely vote PAP.

It would be interesting to know how much of her own money she has donated to this fund before she asks others to donate. C’mon, show by example. They keep all their money close to their chest and expect less well off Singaporeans to open their wallets. Where is the justice of it all? We are asked to set up a retirement fund for them and at the same time we are asked not to expect any assistance from the state when we are old. We must be daft to fall into this trap again.

It’s so pathetic! Out of 4.99 millions Singaporeans, STTA only managed to garner 189K! Here’s 3 scenario:-

    1. Let’s assume every Singaporeans donated. therefore each Singaporean is only willing to donate $0.40 (this show our true level of appreciation for Team B effort! I do give more to the street beggars!)

    2. Let’s assume STTA collection represent $1 per donor. Therefore only 189K donated out of 4.99 millions population equating to only 3.8% of Singaporeans SUPPORT the effort!

    3. A more realistic assumption would be that PAPies and related interests form the bulk of the donation in order to “High Gong” the public into believing the level of public supports!
