Vietnamese foreign bride jailed for drugs and other offences

Author: Vietnamese national Huynh Thanh Ha made headlines by stomping on the roof of a taxi early this year and then lying down in the middle of Hougang Avenue 9, causing vehicles to come to a screeching halt.
In court on Tuesday, she pleaded guilty to taking drugs the night before her bizarre behaviour and was jailed six months for drug consumption.
The 19-year-old, who is married to a Singaporean, was also jailed two weeks for endangering public safety by acting rashly and lying down in the middle of a road. The second sentence was ordered to run concurrently so she will serve only six months behind bars.
Pleading for leniency, her lawyer Tan Cheng Kiong told the court that his client had marital woes. She had married a 39-year-old Singaporean man in July last year but found it difficult to settle down here. She would try to drown her sorrows with liquor and on Feb 15 she met a Vietnamese woman who passed her a red pill which her new friend claimed would make her feel much better.
Instead, Huynh ended up intoxicated and committing offences such as lying on a busy road the next morning, the lawyer said. Two other charges for causing damage amounting to $428 by stomping on the roof of the taxi and ignoring police warnings to calm down, were taken into consideration by the judge when sentencing.

Some Singaporean men invite trouble. In this case, the jack arse is 39 years old and his wife is just 19 years old. He is old enough to be the girl’s father and easily a generation apart.
They probably don’t speak each other’s lingo. They probably do not know each other’s ways and customs. She may be from a farm while he is definitely a city slick.
She is brobably a sweet young thing and he is probably ugly. That is why he looks for young pretty foreign bride from a 3rd. world countries e.g. Vietnam, China, Philippines.
He definitely brought her to suffer in a strange land. The Government should not encourage this as it only brings problems to the country.

I have a true life account. My friend got married to a Viet as well. Initially she was denied entry into Singapore, but my friend who is not well educated and spoken and written english is very bad was advised by one of HIS friends who is also married to another Viet to fly over to Vietnam and bring her into Singapore, declaring marriage as a reason. She was granted permission and they got married after knowing each other for about 2 weeks. He is 41yrs and she is 24yrs old.
The very next day his problem started, she did not come back home, cause my friend’s mom is 76yrs old, and needs help. Soon enough, she was seen with another Singaporean, whom we found out was her boyfriend even before the marriage to my friend. Now, in order to repartriate her, he has to engage a lawyer, fees, $3000/=. He took out a personal loan of $10000 from OUB, he needs to pay for that, hence has no money to get a lawyer. There are even more problems and events to narrate, as for now, he has been informed that she goes to Malaysia for a few days and re-enters Singapore on an extension. Can someone here advise?

My friend shared her brother’s experience with me.
He ‘bought’ a vietnam wife. He’s in early 30s and she’s in late 20s, so their age gap isn’t wide. She borne him a son.
She always demands for big sum of money regularly since marriage. If he says no to her money demands, she threatens to divorce and takes the son away from him!

It’s sad to read in news that even young, eligible men are ‘buying’ foreigner brides because they are too tired after work to date.
Marriage needs maintenance like a normal dating relationship. It’s impossible for both parties to know each other well within a few days. The ugly habits/character of one will only be out after the deal is done.

I guess Singapore govt wouldn’t be bothered with these ‘money transaction’ marriage woes. They will only be delighted with the extra babies that come from these marriages.
More babies mean more tax-payers in future.
Sigh the kids from the broken families will suffer.

With all the casinos and prostitutes on the island, what do you expect?
What she did was fairly mild.

what is she doing at a pub, selling her body? drinking n blaming that old 39 year old fool? maybe, pay him to ‘marry’ her so can stay in sg to ply her pr-ofession.
