Lee Kuan Yew: No retirement age for Singapore workers
Never a stranger to controversies, PAP strongman and Singapore’s octagenarian leader Lee Kuan Yew caused a stir when he said during a dialogue session with government officials and unionists that there should be no retirement age for Singapore workers.
Speaking from his own experience, Lee called on elderly Singaporeans to be more “productive” and work as long as they can:
“You work as long as you can work and you will be healthier and happier for it. If you ask me to stop working all of a sudden, I think I’ll just shrivel up, face the wall and just that,” he said.
At 86 years of age, Lee is probably the oldest living MP and minister in the world. By his own admission, he is not doing much work lately, except doing “forecasting”.
Lee has constantly exhorted Singaporeans to work for as long as they can to avoid becoming a burden to the state. Though Singapore has one of the higest GDP per capita income in the world, its citizens enjoy few social welfare benefits from the PAP government which has always eschewed “welfarism”.
With their CPF savings being locked up with their HDB flats and the astronomical Minimum Sum for withdrawal, most Singaporeans will have to work till their twilight years to support themselves.
Many elderly workers have to accept a pay cut which Lee said they have to “come to terms with”:
“That’s life! You know American Generals – they don’t do well, they get fired and they give them a medal, they send a new general! I think we have to develop that approach to life. (When) you have reached the maximum you can do at your age in that position, you move sideways and you take less pay and you move gradually, (getting) less and less pay because you are moving slower and slower, especially when you’re doing physical work,” he was quoted as saying in Channel News Asia.
While Lee asked Singapore workers to accept a pay cut when they grow old, he has blatantly refused to practice what he preaches himself.
Lee costs Singaporeans some S$3 million dollars a year, or more than five times the annual salary of U.S. President Barack Obama and that is not including his lifelong pension which amounts to two-thirds of monthly salary.

When you get old, as old as the old fart, you should learn to be at peace with yourself and seek forgiveness from God for your sins in your life.
But apparently, the old fart is different — he is 80 plus years old — and is preaching that Singaporeans work until they die for less pay doing demeaning work of low-class labourers. At the same time, the old fart is not applying what he is preaching to himself.
He gets paid millions and his little sissy boy and his little sissy boy’s man-like wife gets to run the island like a private island fiefdom and manage and lose BILLIONS of public funds while he himself still holds on to power behind the scenes.
He should do us all a favour and shut up and stop spewing nonsense.
Way past his expiration date.

Perhaps the old fart should resign from his post as the minister mentor (whatever that means) and start working in a hawker centre as table cleaner.

We Singaporeans must not be so dafted this time to take the old fart’s words as gospel truth this time. This old fart is certainly manipulating you third-class citizens’ minds.
He is certainly not working as his age. He is holding his position to secure the power for his son and the wealth of his family.
His pinkish son had already hinted to us during his recent interview in America by saying that the corrupted military junta of Myanmar would at all costs cling to their power because if they are being overthrown, the people would certainly go after their wealth, assets and family members.
The old fart is doing the same thing now.

I know of many great leaders in the world that after they have retired, began to give back to society, help the society.
But this leader sux, only thinking of earning our money. If he cannot get our money, he will shivel. What a wicked, selfish and heartless man.

Why a person with so much money and going to the grave soon still want to earn so much despite this only sore point from the people he loved. To LKY, another million does not add to his life improvement and his family does not need it too. I think he is greedy, nobody dares to cut his salary. Let us see if he could carry all his money to his grave.
Everyone loves money but there is a time to stop. When working for money is not an incentive to improving quality of life anymore, there is no more motivation and one should do something he likes before he dies. LKY loves money, and keeping more and more money is his incentive to work. At 86, he still want to work and lucky for him, he need not get less pay, in fact ,more, why not continue to work.

Dear Mr.Lee,
If I’m getting 3 million for being a forecaster, of course I won’t mind. But hey, are you asking me to become Mcdonald boy in my 60s – 70s competing with school boys for the job. Oh I forgot, it’s not school boys that retirees are competing with today, it’s your FTs. Can I be a town council cleaner? Let me think how I can be “faster, betterest, anc cheaper” than your bangala / PRC FTs for the broom job.
Will let you know soon after I figure out what salary to state as my expectations.
Thank you for your invaluable time.
Yours sincerely,
True Singaporeans who paid their dues to this country.

It’s very easy for him to say keep working and don’t retire. His multi-million dollar job involves sitting in an air-conditioned office “forecasting”, still has time to go home in the afternoon for naps. With this kind of job and salary, who wants to retire? Yet, he is calling for our elderly to take pay cuts, accept menial jobs, slog at physically strenuous labour and DON”T retire!! I can’t help but think he is trying to prepare the ground for no reitrement age (read: no withdrawal of CPF funds).

Old man is right! Singaporean WILL never able to retire.
With such a high standard of living with our pathetic wages, who will consider of retiring??
With more policies pinning and suppressing down it citizens like bringing in more Foreign Trash, so on, it is unlikely the low wages Singaporean will ever retire.
Sometime I ask myself, what do I want?? Do I want to work till the day I drop dead and missed all the quality time with the family, to the extend that sometime I don’t even know that I exist in this world or for what purpose I’m in this world? For work? Or do I just pack up and leave this country and find a place with a slower pace life style… as least I know I do exist in this world and to pause for a while to look at what is actually around me which I had neglected for the past 30+ years.
As long as you live in Singapore as a middle/low class salary earner, you will have to WORK UNTIL THE DAY YOU DIE. And when you DIE, you have no happy memories of your life to bring along with you accept WORK, WORK and WORK till you DIE.

Seriously, to retire or not is the liberty of Singaporeans. He refuse to retire, I salute him. But that is his model of life… this formula works for him, good. But there is no single formula that works for everyone. Living is not about working and be productive to the country and its economy. Everyone has their own desire to fulfil because we have a brain. Stamp pressing an impression of himself on other people simply do not work. This is crazy!

LKY is a slave driver!
It’s impossible for other elders to work in their old age like LKY. They don’t have a comfortable life like him.
1. LKY has personal escorts, doctor and car driver to follow him everywhere! If we ask our elders to squeeze into the overcrowded trains and buses, they may fall down and be fatal, they have no personal doctor at their side at all time.
2. LKY’s job is just show face and TALK ONLY. If we ask our elders to continue working in their labour-intensive jobs, their bones will tear leh.

On my case, I am unemployed for the last 9-years because the foreign talents already landed here to take away our good jobs. I apply many jobs without success due to the influx of foreigners. He does not feel the way an elderly at the age of 70+ eking out a living in the hawker center serving and cleaning and dreading the day when he gets sick.
He does not understand a retired low rank soldier or policemen or civil servant driving a cab, doing 12hrs graveyard shit as a security guard to keep a family of 2 generations going owing to the current situation.
He does not understand that a young man or woman who is finding it tough to earn a living to provide a decent home and taking care of aged parents.
He does not understand a young couple who find it difficult to have their first home of their own without getting into debts to begin their new life.
All he knows are the minsters, Sn.civil servants, the elites and the privileged FTs beating tru blu Singaporeans in every field without having to serve NS laughing to the Bank,Holidaying ***** & ****** star comforts and having an extra home here and abroad.
What would he know about us the ordinary whom he is asking to work till we DROP DEAD.(he use to know us but not TODAY)

Due to the inconsiderate approval of high influx of new citizens, foreign workers and PRs to stimulate the GDP growths to justify their daft ministers’ multi-million dollars pay packages & increments and to increase the falling votes of the PAP regime.
So any bird brain can also predict that young couples that is about to buy a sky high HDB flat have to work throughout their lifetime to service their HDB loan. Even when they die, their loan may still not be fully paid.

With all due respect to MM Lee, not everybody owns a car. You want an 86 year old elderly to squeeze on trains? Probably can’t even live till the age of 75! Even if one owns a car, he/she has to endure the frustration of being stuck in traffic jams, not everybody gets chauffeured around like MM Lee gets to enjoy, neither does everybody has TP to clear the traffic for him/her. If you walk on the streets of the busy CBD, you get pushed and banged into, we don’t have escorts like he does.
Even at 55 years old, it is hard as hell to get a job, less said about ‘no retirement age’, the better! And with the ever-increasing influx of FTs just makes things worse. Gone were the times (or very, very soon to be) when uncles/aunties work at fast food outlets, petrol kiosks, kopitiams, etc. Petrol kiosk cashiers are now all FTs, same goes for pump attendants. Don’t think I have to elaborate on the part on fast food outlets and kopitiams.
If I earn 300k/mth and someone were to ask me to retire, not only will I ‘shrivel up, face the wall and just that’, I think I might just lose my sanity on the thought that I am going to lose my 3million dollars annual income.
Upon retirement, I can always sign up for classes/activities at the community centre, exercise more regularly, take care of & play with my grand kids, play some mahjong, sing some karaoke, go on holidays with my spouse, do some voluntary/social work, etc. Of course, most importantly, I finally get to ‘see’ my CPF. There is so much, so much, one can do upon retirement.
And to those who agree with MM Lee, are you sure that employers would still want you? Are you so sure that you can still find a job at the age of 65? Even if Singapore has a law in place, stating that no employees are to be released/terminated due old-age reasons, there are always other ways to get around it, such as, employers can say you were incompetent in your job, therefore, goodbye.
Yes, I know that he’s not ordering us not to retire, we still have a choice, but will this ‘no retirement age’ work? No it won’t, please don’t be naive, this is not a perfect world.

Why don’t he join our elderly cleaning void decks at Town Councils, picking used card-boards for next meal or as an uncle at McDonald’s counter ?…lets see if MM can survive any of these no retirement jobs even for a week.
Retirement is not a stage a person becomes vegetable…retirement is a stage where a person is freed from his commitments and obligations..like freed from debts and mortgages and freed from feeding his family and etc etc…..why has this old man confused retirement from vegetation?..
Is it because an emperor does not retire?

There’s a particular part of the MM’s speech which was masked out in this article thread. Mr Lee gave very negative remarks to old people who spend time playing scrabble and chess.
I find that very hurtful. Especially if you are a trained counsellor, spending your life to teach and engage aged citizens to have an active mind and getting to feel happy playing wholesome mind games like scrablle and chess and the like. Now MM LEE says he will “shrivel” if engage in such activities. It really demoralises and denigrates the fibre of the aged society which is very frail and needs our support. Just because MM is a multiBillionaire and has the advantage of unqualified State resources to support him in whatever he fancies, does not give him the right to insult the peaceful and progressive activites of old people. In his speech he injects a new feeling of defeat and hopelessness to thouseands of not so fortunate old people amongst us who has a need to engage in such enriching mind activities.
If anything, the recent speech of MM simply confirms with me one thing, OLD PEOPLE must be retired however capable they had been in the past. After a certain point they begin to talk rubbish and antagonise people; all the good deeds they have done in the past become undone. It is a great pity.

This is a clear sign that MM LKY is saying that he will not step down and will stand again for Election 2010.
With an annual wage of over $3-MIllion – (besides also drawing pension from the public treasury) – why would he want to retire ?
This is not a call for other Singaporeans to continue working.
This is another characteristic LKY way in giving a justification and a reason for his own continuation “to work” and collect the obscene Ministerial wage of $3-Million annually.
With annual wages collected for doing nothing and travelling FIRST CLASS with full personal protection all provided by the State – why will anyone wish to retire ?

this is utter ninsense-irrational suggestion!
how can folks work till they drop dead when they don’t even have WORK in the first place?
his son,the PM, wants to bring in more foreigners to displace another 100k singaporean workers-besides the hundreds of thousands already displaced-and now,the FATHER talks about working till old age.
I can’t see how when the govt keep bringing more and more foreigners to replace us and at the same time,employers- for reasons of cheaper faster-are replacing the singaporeans at break-neck speed even as young as their forties!
so,I guess the MM and his precious ‘LITTLE’ son are hoping to see SINGAPOREANS dropping dead as young as mid-forties or fifties?
The various policy actions run contradictory to the ‘SOLEMN’ SPECCHES made by MM LEE and other ministers like LIM BOON HENG who is charge of AGEING POPULATION problems.
And in his speech,MM LEE said that we still need more intake of foreigners to increase the ‘SIZE OF THE INTELLECTUAL CLASS BY THREE FOLDS”! So,there you again, contradictions upon contrdictions.
Telling citizens to wotk till they drop dead while at the same time, replacing them with more and more foreigners!
And,there is no REAL INCREASE IN JOB CREATIONS per se,all these FTs merely coming in to take over the jobs of singaporeans in their forties etc?
there is no sincerity in these ‘SOLEMN SPEECHES’,only BS and LIES!

This man cannot be made to retire. He must be thrown out. Save for his cronies all native singaporeans want him out of this world. There is only one way to get him out. Oppositions must form a formidable team to contest in Tanjong Pager GRC. I am sure the electorate there will knock his team out this time round. For all you know his team may even lose their deposit.
The oppositions may also want to consider doing the same at the GRCs of his son’s, GCT’s, WCS’s, TCH’s, MBT’s, and LSS’s. In this current situation of miseries there is a real chance that the cabinet can be wiped out in the next GE.
Oppositions please consider seriously.

With due respect, I still address you MM Lee.
When you gave a speech to a group of audience, how many do you think agree with your philosophy? How confident are you that you believe they accept your ideas? My guess is 50/50. While minority of the audience may goes with your philosophy which some of this minority are from your partisan, the rest are just sitting there assessing your mental state, to see if your mind still works or not. While some are waiting for you to make mistake in your speech/dialogue.
You have to understand and accept the fact that your regime is over. People who supported you previously either diagnosed with Parkinson’s diseases or already dead. These old followers may not be financially capable to keep them healthy to see you through, unlike you. The audiences you are facing today are younger generation who are smarter and have their own thoughts. Try pushing the spoon into their mouth and they will retaliate which some already do.
My advice to you is that you should step down now as a great man, as a forefather of Singapore before things get nasty after the next GE.

If you truly don’t know how turbulent the ground level is once a person breaches the magical age 40 with high pay, DO DO yourself a favour and apply for a job in an SME up to even MNCs these days! Even after retrench at 45, can we get a job to JUST “forecast”? And not do the work for “peanuts” with all our valuable learning and experience you’ve urged us to be in the past – NOT TO BE SIDELINED DUE TO AGE ALONE!
Please lah! WE ARE NOT in your league and NEITHER ARE you in OURS! Because you have absolute powers and WE DON’T HOR! THAT alone make us more resilient and tougher than you too living as HONEST man to etch out a decent living for family BUT living among human “sharks” like say just pap for example. Simply put, by what you’ve just said, you’ve put us in your “shoes”! Which is utterly ridiculous right! BECAUSE, Have you ever won a GE esp. after passed laws for GRCs, increase your pay packages too before increasing GE fees and imposing donation restriction on political parties and other obvious caveats not worth reiterating!
Ever engaged in fair and just contests and won? Pragmatism? Seen that “Galdiator” movie? Honourable and respected are the true grit men who win contests “Man to Man”. Never otherwise. So don’t tell stories to earn your unbelievable paychecks and power like that late “Mr. Ng Chia Keng” of Redifusion of ions ago! Inshort, you have never won, you always cheated”! Even at 87 you still try. God is waiting for all of your justifications even with practically absolute power! You WILL be the one ABSOLUTELY SURPRISED then when WITH “absolute power” NO MORE! Are you hinting that no one in Singapore will be getting our CPF retirement payouts? Otherwise why are you suggesting that no one in Singapore should have a retirement age?
You are also hinting that we have lost so much money by GIC investments that there is no money left in CPF to pay retirees?

With respect to LKY, plse forgive me, but please shut up!!!Our jobs are no more secure except if you are in the civil service. With so much against us, bills going up etc, it is no wonder the average and enlightened locals are really pissed off with the leaders. Sure nothing is free but then again nothing is long term these days, and most important we have to fight on our own to survive, really cannot depend on the government and their rosy reports and “sayings”.I think we are not asking for much but please make life bearable for us. The more he opens his big mouth, the more our people will get hurt from his bad remarks. No shame at all. Very thick skin indeed. Nowadays, Singapore is getting from bad to worse. The cost of living is getting higher as days go by and our good jobs are already taken away by the foreign talents. Where do we go next? I don’t know. His son, PM now loses the direction to run this little, red dot.

Think before you shoot off your mouth. Are you providing jobs for all of these old people? Then why are you brining in all these foreign workers? Our old people have no jobs so they end up clearing tables at food courts and driving taxis. Their previous jobs are taken by cheaper foreign labour.
Yes, it is a good idea as it keeps them healthy. But first please ensure they have life long jobs and not kick them out the moment they start losing their teeth!

1. Not everyone is paid a lot of money doing cushy jobs wielding power and privilege. Of course those in such elite positions don’t mind continuing in their work. Who would?
2. One big group ordinary people want to work but can’t even find decent jobs.
3. A lot of companies are “forcing” out their older workers (from mid-40s onwards). There isn’t even an option given to these older workers to move aside and take a pay cut. Some companies even make it very nasty for their older workers so that they would quit on their own accord. These unethical companies want to avoid giving retrenchment benefits.
4. Why is there a need to work till you drop? A lot of people who can afford it retire and actually lead healthier and happier lives after retirement.
5. One group of old people continue to work – not because they love their work, but out of sheer economic necessity. They have no choice.
6. As a society, we must not forget our older people and tell them they have to fend for themselves until they die. Do that and you destroy trust and decency. The young ones see and they calculate. They will learn to only protect themselves. Such a society is doomed to fail.

Retirement age only make sense in countries that have pensions. Then you want to have low retirement age so that you can enjoy the pension. This is what you have in Greece.
For countries such as Singapore, retirement age is not good if you have a good salary and you want to continue receiving that good salary.
Not having a retirement age gives you a choice. You choose to continue or retire.
Having a retirement age means that the company can legally retire you whether you want to or not. They can then hire a younger cheaper worker to replace you.

I am at a lost. A Singaporean jobless professional for six months and still job hunting in futility. Read this morning’s BizTimes, the labour chief, recommended the hiring of more skilled foreign workers to raise productivity and the labour movement is in favour of hiring more foreign workers. 100K more migrant workers to come, maybe more if they bring along their families & friends. Jobless migrants making a beeline to churches, temples and charitable organizations for free meals as reported in July 15th’10 Today Paper. Lots of unemployed PMETs like me around. No retirement now to add on to the supply side of the work force, work till the end of your days. Look around coffee shops, food courts; hordes of retirees sitting around lamenting…Where are the jobs? Well meaning jobs. Charity begins at home, take care of the original citizens first. Seems like the administration is clueless on what’s happening. Or are they so cocooned that they are cut off from the truth. This is worrisome and causing so much angst on the ground.

Singapore Technologies retrenchment plan was to get rid of the older staff (50-60years old)! There wasn’t even an option for them to take a pay cut! And all the Malaysians remained untouched, just because they are ‘cheaper’ in terms of wages. Pay cut my ass. How about you practice what you preach by taking pay cut from 3million to 60k a year? Then we can talk about no-retirement age again.

Is our MM Lee trying to justify his yearly multi-million dollar salary?? So what does the great and almighty trying to tell those lower and middle income singapore citizens….? Wake up your bloody idea of retirement and start working as dishwashers, kurung guni men/women, fast food joints, janitors… if so lucky that these jobs are not taken by the PAP appointed foreign trashs that are coming here by the boatloads…
Seriously, does the great and almighty MM Lee is worth the salary we citizen are paying through our taxes?? What other contributions he has given singapore lately besides the fact that he pointed out 1. No amount of Engineering can prevent Flood (Quoted by a non-Professional Engineer) and 2. No retirement Age for Singapore Workers (Quoted by an old man whose salary is a all expenses paid, tax free 7-digits figures, where common folks here can never even see such stellar figures in their bank accounts).
The only change that has never happened in Singapore since our Independence is the removal of PAP from Power. That is the only problem that is hindering our country from progressing. Hoping for that day of change to come…

Wishful thinking if you’re planning for your retirement. Work till you have two feet in your grave. That’s the kind of lifestyle Singaporeans are to expect in the coming decade.
Choosing whether to work after retirement need be a choice for both employers and employees. Most retirees who chose to continue working do not work in air-conditioned offices, raking their brains on how to make life more challenging for others while enduring pains and aches their decaded body are screaming.
Well, if we’ve similar priviLeeges and status, we would do exactly that, father.

I don’t think that used-to-be-great-and-well-oiled machine between his ears are working that well anymore.
He is either so cocksure of the support of the people that he can say something like this OR he is not thinking right OR he obviously thinks that nothing he says will ever rob PAP of power. None of these situations is good for Singapore.

Easy for MM to say no retirement for workers. But how many employers are willing to employ older workers?. I retired in 2008 on reaching age 62. Although I am healthy, IT savy and willing to continue working with reduced pay,no medical benefits, no annual leave etc etc, and doing the same job my company (a GLC)happpily got rid of me. With the abundant supply of cheaper, faster, younger FWs,obviously employers will choose to employ them rather than retaining older workers. The actual fact is, most employers will lit up fire crackers to send those who have reached 55years and above off with glee. If the government is sincere in the respect, the civil service, and all TLCs and GLCs should start the ball rolling, that is no retirement age for their staff, unless the staff himself choose to retire.

MM Lee’s remark is intriguing. The proposed approach to valuation of the workforce on such an extreme level of meritocracy that values only the presence or the ‘now’ has social implication.
Respect and acknowledgment of the contribution of the elderly to the building of the nation cannot be simply overlooked when they can’t contribute as much as earlier. To insist on taking this extreme meritocratic approach cultivates the later generation of locals who wouldn’t know how to value their predecessors. Appreciation of individuals is reduced only to what we can give now regardless of what we have given in the past.
It would not take long for individuals who grow up under such social-economic sentiment to adopt this extreme meritocracy into their family life and start asking, “Should I care less for my parents and grandparents because they have less to contribute to my well-being NOW?”
Singapore is threading on the fine line between price and value in her society.

First since Toh Chin Chye is still around and probably about his age, he can get to be Consultant Minister,
then Ong Pang Boon can become Senior Minister in Home Affairs (his old Ministry where Mas Selamat escape),
Othman Wok can become Senior Minister for Community Development Youth(Aged in this case)and Sports (Games in this case maybe carrom, etc)

Yes this is true…i am afraid so…folks who work in civil service locally or overseas are not “very well” paid….but are given iron rice bowls and pension for life….
In singapore it is different…not only are these high uppity folks are paid equal to private sector pay but are tiered to the top 10% of the private sector…and with pension to boot…
For the other folks (middle level and below) in civil service [miltary, police and what have you]…no more pension scheme for them.
Interesting no….i am uppity then you so i deservce large piece of the cake…and oh yes when i shit it…i have the absolute right to recylce that shit repeatedly via my bowels for the rest of my days on earth…as the below uppity folks…you die you business…and oh yes…that small piece of cake i left for you…remember when you shit it out…it is all mine also cos i am uppity and elite too into the bargain.

I share the following article on retiring at age 55 and those who retire at 65 or after.
my website contacts have more information:
http://tankoktim.blog.com/
http://www.facebook.com ; search: tan kok tim
=======
The Nobel Laureate, Dr. Leo Esaki, delivered the distinguished lecture entitled “Innovation and Evolution: Reflections on a Life in Research” in the University of Texas at Dallas 23 Feb 2002.
Among other matters, he spoke on Longevity vs Retirement Age. The pension funds in many large companies such as AT & T, Boeing, Lockheed, Lucent Technologies etc. have been over funded as many who work into their old age, & retire after the age of 65 years, usually die within 2 years after finally retiring.
Many of these late retirees do not stay alive long enough to pick up all their pension money. As a result, they leave a lot of unused money in their pension funds, resulting in the over-funded funds.
Dr Ephrem Cheng did an actuarial study of life span vs age at retirement. The study was based on the number of pension cheques sent to retirees of Boeing Aerospace. It found that for staff who retire at the age of 50, their average life span is 86. For people who retire at the age of 65, their average life span is only 66.8. This study concludes that for every year a person works beyond the age of 55, he/she loses an average of 2 years of his/her life span. Boeing employees who retire at the age of 65, receive pension cheques for only 18 months, on average, before dying.
Lockheed, similarly, found that employees retiring at the age of 65, take only an average of 17 months of pension, prior to death.
Dr David Chai indicates that Bell Labs reported a similar experience to those of Boeing & Lockheed.
A retiree from Ford Motors told Dr Paul Ho that the experience from Ford is no different from those of Boeing & Lockheed too.
People who retire at the age of 65 or older, are in the minority, compared to the number of early retirees. The harder working late retirees probably put too much stress on their aging bodies & minds, such that they develop serious health problems, that forced them to eventually retire. With such long-term stress-related problems, they die within 2 years after they retire.
On the flipside, people who take early retirement at the age of 55, tend to live well into their 80s. These earlier retirees probably are either richer or more able to plan & manage the various aspects of their life, health & career well, so that they can afford to retire early & comfortably.
Many of these early retirees still continue doing some work. However, they do the work on a part-time or project basis, at a more leisurely pace, so that they do not get too pressured.
They also have the luxury to pick & chose the types of part-time work of real interest to them, at their leisure.
Most Japanese workers retire at the age of 60 or earlier. This may be one of the factors contributing to the long average life span of Japanese people.
The lesson is that, when one gets older, one should plan one’s career path & financial matters so that one can retire comfortably at the age of 55 or earlier, to enjoy a long, happy & leisurely retirement life, into the twilight 80s & beyond.
On the other hand, if we are encouraged to stay in the pressure-cooker or the high-speed corporate world until the age of 65 or older, then we will probably will die within 18 months of retirement.
By staying in the rat race for 10 more years, beyond the age of 55, we give up at least 20 years of our life span on average.

They can run…
They can hide…
They can use the “ill” gotten gains to pay for security & “peace of mind” overseas…
They can do plastic surgery…
They can do anything to stay away from the many wrongs they did…
But they can never run away from the following:
1) Conscience.
2) Karma.
3) Taxes…even in a different country unless they bought the overseas government.
4) Death and it ever present reaper itself patiently waiting for the time to take them.

In singapore, the ministers say honest mistake, what to do, it happened, and still keep the job, with increments and bonuses not affected..
How to compare? The American generals who lost their jobs should come to singapore as foreign talents, and replace our generals/ex generals, ministers too…

To tan kok tim @5.29pm
Great commentary and refreshing viewpoint.
You also mentioned that working longer would induce more stress in the corporate world therefore health suffers.
Unfortunately, MMLee probably never understood what corporate world dirty office-politics and its stresses means and he never saw stress in his life after he finisheed off his opponents eons ago and became no.1 boss and so he is above the office-politics. When you are the boss of everybody and you have no boss, even if you fart, your subordinates will wonder in amazement and excalim “what nice aroma fills the air today Sir”.
So from his perspective, apart from the obscene salary, it is perfectly correct to say, “work for life”, because he is simply blind deaf and dumb to the huge spectrum of differences in the individual singaporean’s situations. I think his speech is a total disaster, next to the 23 Dec 2009 speech where he chided singaporeans for being daft in front of american national geographic.

I have heard of people who are/were fearful of retiring after a lifetime of work. But I have never met anyone so scared to death of retirement. Neither do I think that I will come across such a person during my lifetime. With the exception of this ONE.
HE refuses to retire because HE is afraid that HE will shrivel up and die. HE thinks that upon retirement HE will become a dried-up pee sai, discarded and forgotten. From a god-like being to nothingness almost overnight. HE cannot bear the thought of that happening to HIM.
HE is also living in constant fear of losing HIS power and with that HIS millions, possibly billions. Hanging on to whatever power HE still has gives HIM the reassurance that all is well with HIM, HIS power, and HIS monstrous wealth.
HE knows HIS son is useless and incompetent and will never be able to make it if left on his own. That as soon as HE leaves the son will be put in an untenable situation, an arena full of tigers,
lions, snakes, hyenas, and some baying dogs and leaping deaf frogs. The son will not survive long and will be swallowed whole or eaten in pieces, depending on how he plays his cards. Thus when HE goes so will the dynasty.
To be fair, there are people who retire only to die. But for each of them I daresay there are hundreds or more who retire into a life of contentment and satisfaction, feelings which may have deserted them during their working days.
MM LKY with all HIS worldly experience ought to know that HIS is not the average joe’s life, that HIS fears, nightmares, thoughts and aspirations are quite different from yours and mine. There
is just no comparison. Therefore HIS thinking and feelings towards retirement will again be quite unique. Why then does HE think that refusing to retire is good for all just because it is good for HIM? Doesn’t he know that it takes all sorts…..? Sometimes I think intelligent people do have a touch of stupidity, what some would describe as “daft”-ness.
MM, thanks…but no thanks.

Dear MM Lee, we Singaporeans are a simple lot: we are merely seeking new management.
If Singapore today is somewhat the same as it was 20 years ago, you would probably be even more popular than Jay Chou, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson & Oprah all put together, period! However, times have changed. Singapore has advanced at such a velocity that even Carl Lewis has a problem keeping up, much less you. While your methodology & system are sound, it has, unfortunately, become very unsuitable in the 21st & 22nd century’s context. Running a country is much less a single man’s job today. Teamwork is of the utmost importance. If a team cannot work well together, something has to give. Either you change the unhappy citizens (& end up having monkeys for your subjects) or change the mentally-challenged lot that are currently running the country.
Singapore requires the average Singaporean to work his hardest. At the other end, its leaders have to work at their maximum capacity as well. This cohesion of efforts between the two ends of the workforce make up “Team Singapore”. It is, with bitter regrets, that not everyone is 100% capable of performing their duties. In a profit-driven organisation (which Singapore so obviously is), those who do not cut it are told to leave. Looking back at recent events, it is very obvious that certain heads should roll. R&D conducted by our Environment Ministry generated findings that were already well-known facts. Primary school students would be able to tell you confidently that floods are caused by intense storms, coupled with drainage issues. The A-star student would even be able to tell you that rain/thunderstorms are acts of nature, not God. The scholar would add that sufficient engineering would be able to avert most, if not all calamities.
With all due respect, the entire department just does not cut it. We urge those responsible for making “ground-shaking” statements be removed from our “board” & replaced with genuine talent. The Cambridge Dictionary defines “talent” as a natural ability &/or attractive person(s). It will be rather scandalous to have a country run by pretty boys & sexy women. So we are left with the other alternative: leaders with natural abilities. As the current “board’s” only natural ability is to receive obscene pay cheques & humiliate the people who pay them, I sense the time has indeed come for a complete revamp.
Dear MM Lee, should you still insist on working (post-retirement occupation), I’m sure the country is more than gracious to offer you a relatively slow, easy & less demanding job. How does “Facebook correspondence” sound to you? There won’t be the necessity to travel long punishing distances just to attend press-conferences or interviews. However, should you feel the need to be a little more active, how does child-minder sound to you? I’m sure your great-grandchildren will be more than sufficient to cause you to break sweat every once in awhile. The most beautiful thing is, you could work from home!!!!
To be brutally honest, you have little or no talent (if according to the Cambridge’s definition). At 86, you have definitely lost your natural ability (to do anything & everything). On the other hand, you are neither attractive (have you seen yourself of late?).
Hence, the axe should be brought upon you, apart from many others within your cabinet. It is a win-win situation as far as Singapore is concerned (that is the whole point we are arguing about in here). We spend less on excessive employment, & for those that we replace, we get value-for-$ talents. Only thus will Singapore be further propelled into the future – 101% efficiency. This will ultimately pave a golden path for the current & future generations.
They say karma is, more often than not, executed upon our following generations. Let us protect them now. I do not wish for what we do wrong today, to come back & punish our descendants.
Please MM Lee, if forecasting is your forte, keep it to yourself & perhaps forecast how your next medical appointment will turn out. Leave the larger & heavier stuff to the professionals. There is absolutely no sense in overworking yourself. Singapore will be very upset should you go & wreck your health, doing what is absolutely pointless, for her. Think of the amount of security (apart from costs) required for one of your interviews, which lately have become non quote-worthy. The by product of your speeches is deeper misunderstanding between the common man & the government. It has long since not been your responsibility (or jurisdiction) to “look after” Singapore & its people. We currently have a Prime Minister to do that job. Should, for any reason(s) he does not live up to the reputation, a replacement should be made ASAP, in the best interests of the country.
Male citizens suffer in the military, learning the various methods to protect & guard our land. Let us not let them down by giving them a worthless piece of land to defend. Keep up the little good work that you all have done & clear up the multitudes of rubbish you all have created. Redistribution of wealth (your incomes): I am sure every party-member is more than willing to work for Singapore for a much less pay cheque, say SGD 500,000 per annum? We strongly believe that our politicians are not “in it” for the succulent pay. Many CEOs have reportedly worked for their company(s) for a dollar a year. While it may be ridiculous to be earning S$1 per annum, any self-righteous man would gladly carry the load of governing our Motherland for much less than S$500,000 per year. Care to disagree, MM Lee?
In conclusion MM Lee, stay healthy. Stay at home. Stay away from the press (both foreign & local). Stay away from politics already. Singapore wishes you a happy retirement. Thank you!

The blunt message is WORK TILL YOU DROP DEAD.
Forget about your CPF savings. It has vanished in thin air.
The current Minimum Sum is $123K and rising at the rate of $10K each year. Don’t forget that you are also servicing your HDB loan, some 20 or even 30 years which means you are going to be a pauper in your 60s. The CPF withdrawal age continue to be pushed back from 55 to 60 to 62 to 65 to 70,80 and beyond.
The fact that they are bulldozing unpopular policies now show that they are confident of winning the next GE with a handsome majority.
To the 66.6 numbskulls, if you still don’t get the message, then you, your children and grandchildren CAN LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER.

It’s ironical. MM LEE preaches that on shoudl take a pay cut as you get older but as he gets older he gets a RAISE! How come he is payed so much for doing nothing worth while.
Of course there are some who will like to work as long as they can but can they find the work. The moment you go out and look for a job and when they find out you are pass 55 , well they simply pass you over.
Come come my MM please practice what you preached. You should be in a retirement home or hospice!! So stop all this bullshitting! We are more matured these days to be conned by you or your PAP!
Time to go out my fellow citizens not 3 class we are as one PAP member has classified us and right the wrongs of this government and party once and for all. In time we will have our PM our president , our deputy PM our 2 senior ministers and our MM and perhaps one day we will have a new SENIOR MINISTER MENTOR all will be in their 80″S earning $ 3 million dollars and the rest of us in our 50’s must take a paycut cos of our age!! Does that make sense??

What this greedy old man is talking about?
Is he on medication?
Many Singapore workers are forced to “retired” at 40s by their employers. These unfortunate jobless people were then labelled as “choosy” by PAP.
Singapore employers prefer younger and cheaper foreign workers provided by the PAP regime.

there could actually be not enough CPF for everyone. Tat means CPF Life is insufficient. With housing going the way it has, it also implies that people have to continue to work to support. Medical bill can be worked into wages.
Correct me if I am wrong, with Temasek Holdings selling so many bonds, what if one day, the system cannot support these bonds? Wouldn’t these become public debt?
Anyway what he meant is also a slap on his face i.e. the seniority system has never been restructured. Seniors do not care about respect and honor and keep taking $$$$ way beyond their actual needs. They figuratively eat the younger alive.
UK is considering doing away with retiremetn age, but I think, for different reasons.

Read in between the lines and what it means become clear

- You will continue to work as slave for free till the day you die
- You will not get back any cpf money either since there is no retirement for you

I think if LKY reads TR, he shall faint and freak out ….
I must agreed that he is one of the founders of Singapore.
He should have leave office long long ago… and have a good legacy so that people can remembers him instead of being critics and spouts ideas that he deemed fit. He should simply let go and let the younger generation takes the lead and grow the country.
The govt should stipulate the max age that ministers/MP can work till. Look around, most MPs retires before 70yrs old. One should reflect and enjoy quality of life, with their family..children, grand childrens… be a dotting great grand father…etc.
You can imagine the amount of $$ and resources needed to support him.
In fact, he is already filthy rich and should donate to the poor/ aged/ charity and in good faith. What is he going to do with the monies ??
He also needs to walk the talk as some readers clearly pointed out.
As the Chinese says goes : Born, old, sick, dead is part of our life process. He should simply just let go…

Remember, HIGH cost of living was deliberately CREATED by the gah-men to show the world we are first class. This prompted a retired respected economist some years back in the Straits Times to condemn such a move and commented that Singapore is NOT Japan, where the high costs is supported by equally high standards of living and wages. He said we simply do NOT have that structure to sustain artificially inflated cost of living! And also, we are the ONLY so called 1st world “country” to NOT have a minimum wage! So much for protecting the citizens.

I am a regular helper at Meet the People Sessions. Even I feel this speech is nonsense and have to speak out on this website.
MM Lee draws around S$3,000,000 a year = S$250,000 a month = around S$8,300 a day. Many Singaporean at 60+ years old cannot even get a job that pays them S$8,300 a year.
Furthermore, MM Lee is sponsored by state with all the healthcare benefits, a large office and driven around in luxury vehicles. Its a total contrast to many old folks.
He should think before saying such rubbish.

If I am at age 86 and is guaranteed an annual salary of $3 million, I would never retire and would even “get up from my grave” if I am wanted again. However, for an average Singaporean, if he or she can be gainfully employed after the age of 62 and be paid a reasonable annual income of say only 1% of $3 million = $30,000, no sensible person would want to retire. The question is how many employers in Singapore would hire anybody beyond 62 unless you are self-employed or you and your family are owners of these companies.

More to it than meets the eye
I have read the comments of the contributers to this column and I fully understand their anger and disgust at what the MM said. He may be old but he knows what he is talking about. He made that statement because he knows that most ordinary Singaporeans cannot afford to enjoy the fruits of their labour and retire because they do not have enough money in their CPF to see them through. CPF was once a fantastic scheme (real WORLD CLASS and I mean it) in the 70s. It could have seen us comfortably through our twilight years. But alas it is no more due to the many changes made through the years. The main culprit is the meteoric rise in price of houses (loyal Singaporeans will tell me supply and demand lah stupid). The meteoric rise in housing price was not met by a rise in the average income, how to manage? A house is a most basic requirement in life everyone must have one. The top people are paid so much and the ordinary Joe struggles. Now JOE really cannot retire. It is a very serious problem together with the prospect of being severely squashed in your own country because of excessive overcrowding. It seems these major issues are being swept under the carpet or maybe into the drainage system (which is probably the cause of the recent floods). I can almost hear it now, many Singaporeans branding me a traitor and an ungrateful person. It is okay, I have relocated and I am retired with all my CPF and I am earning a fortnightly pension from the Government. This is considered wrong back in Singapore. Believe it or not I still Love Singapore THE COUNTRY and THE LAND and I am concerned and in many ways sad.

NOW THW BALL IS FLYING INTO “YOUR court”. AND BY THE END IT WILL BE RIGHT IN your little bloody court!!!!!

And you are just a visitor here or a pappy mole masquerading a PARIAH Resident Parrot of a HIDEOUS supporter of a man who has cheated his fellowman. How did he in the name of woody goh and then in his son work out their outrageous incomes? Read on:
RDB: Your comment is awaiting moderation.

In every blog comments there’s always the most notable issue of ministers’ pay. How did Woody Goh as PM do it? He did say benchmark against 6 professions right! Now how does everyone fill in their Income Tax Form? A TOTAL SUM right! Except for ADDITIONAL sums for like rentals and stock dividends, etc right! SO, only the working class may fill in the relevant sections with small amounts right with relevant attachments! THEN, only real BIG income ones will just attach documents and give reference to them in the form right!
NOW THE BIGGY: Income tax IS personal, private and secret except between the IRAS and the TAXPAYER right! SO, HOW DID PAP GAHmen BENCHMARK THEIR MINISTERIAL SALARIES TO 6 PROFESSIONS? HAVE TOO RIGHT? OR HOW ELSE TO KNOW?
1ST – SO, HAVE NOT THEY BREACHED THE IRAS SECRECY ACT?
2ND – AS, HAVE NOT THEY NOT THEN OBTAINED AND SEEN MANY TAX RETURNS AND BASED ON “THE TOTAL INCOME FIGURES OF THE HIGHEST EARNERS IN EACH OF THE 6 PROFESSIONS TO DETERMINE?
3RD – AN INCOME TAX RETURN CONFIDENTIAL AND THEY SAW OR HAD COPIES? EVEN WITH PERSONAL PARTICULARS REMOVED IN COPIES, IT IS STILL A SECRET DOCUMENT RIGHT!
4TH – THAT MEANS – BOTH PAP AS GAHmen AND IRAS BROKE PAP GAHmen’S OWN LAWS RIGHT?
5TH – AND AS INCOME TAX IS ABOUT “ONE SINGLE SOURCE INCOME” HOW DID WOODY & PAP END UP WITH SUCH HIGH SALARY FIGURES “PEGGED” AT 60% OF 6 PROFESSIONS?
6TH – MUST BE “MORE” THAN 1 INCOME SOURCE PLUS OTHER SOURCES OF THE 6 PROFESSIONAL’S INCOMES TOO RIGHT? LIKE INVESTMENT INCOMES TOO RIGHT!
7TH – SO 60% OF 1 SOURCE MILLION DOLLAR ANNUAL INCOME – PLUS BONUS PLUS “REMUNERATIONS” FROM OTHER INCOME SOURCES – PLUS INVESTMENT INCOMES OF 3-4 IN INVESTMENTS LIKE PROPERTIES FOR ANY PARTICULAR YEAR TOTALING UP TO SOME 4-5 MILLION AND MORE RIGHT! AT 60% OF SUCH TOTAL FROM “MULTIPLE” INCOME TO SAY 5 MILLION IS 3 MILLION RIGHT!
8TH – ALSO, IS A PROFESSIONAL AS CHAIRMAN, CEO, MD, GM PRACTICING HIS CRAFT ANYMORE? HE HAS BECOME A BUSINESSMAN AND ADMINISTRATOR RIGHT! SO, WHAT PROFESSIONAL INCOME WAS Woody Goh TALKING ABOUT?
9TH – THEN THE PREVIOUS PAY INCREASE – LHL SAID THAT THE HIGHEST PAID “EXECUTIVE” IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR GETS AN INCOME OF 4.0_(?) MILLION A YEAR. WAS THIS NOT A NEW TWIST TO JUSTIFY HIS PAY OF MORE THAN 3 MILLION!?
10th – PUS PLUS ONLY THEY HAVE BOTH CPF AND PENSION! ONLY 2 TERMS IN OFFICE AND GET 1/2 OF LAST DRAWN INCOME FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES! ALL IN THE NAME OF “Party self renewal”!
NOW GO AND explain in simple SUMMARY terms to simpler minded uncles and aunties how PAP has in these ways illegally increased their salaries! Have they?

Hey Guitar Guy: Quote : 如果你到了六十多岁,为了吃饭而须要不停地苦干,还会快乐吗?Nowadays a employee with working age exceeding sixty plus but still working is very common issue in our country la. Actually working happily or not happily absolutely got noting to do with your age. It is related to your feeling or your sense of your heart 心境(not physical heart) ,some people with very young age but during working time their attitude like 90 years old people totally out of field. Their heart has gone to somewhere!!! .some senior people with higher age during working time they are still very active ,very energetic ,very experience, very optimistic ,their heart totally committed to their work ,their age look like 30 or 40 years old. So we could not say they are not happy !!!
Quote: 说一声善哉能解决一却吗 ? Just ask you to calm down ( 放下一切 你就觧脱 )
You should know every difficult issue in this world also could be resolved; it is the matter of time. you making so much noise also wouldn’t help to resolve the situation. Government is not a God 神, Government is a group of people selected and nominated by majority of our wise citizen. They also need time to plan and analyse the problem, solve the problem in the positive and logical way so it wouldn’t let majority of the citizen disappointed!!!
So when people say something you should thing positively and logically otherwise it would be very harmful to your health and body.

Sanctimonious words and smug philosophy cannot fill an empty stomach. They don’t even stir the heart.
You’re a happy and contented man – good for you. Not everyone is as fortunate as you are, and definitely very very few are as fortunate as MM Lee.

He is now worst than 毛泽东’s wife. He is doing everything wrong. 不爱民,崇拜个人主义!
He refused to retire and using our hard earned money to tour the whole world.
Forecasting? That is something fortune teller’s job. Is to cheat people. We can’t retire to earn money to feed this useless old man. So if he one person retires, we million of citizens can retire. Because we don’t have to feed him. We rather feed a dog. He is senile at this age. 无药可医!

You should not retire. You should not touch your cpf funds. Just leave them in the hands of Temasek and you shall prosper…..about 30-years after you die.

May be should ask Sam Hui to teach him how to 急流勇退?
Heard people can shorten others’ lives to prolog his life, is he doing that. He wants us to work till die. We should also fuck till die. But can he? He is worst than all emperiors in ancient china, india and western history. This LEE DYNASTY is the worst dynasty. People suffered under his autocracy. In all religions, he is the sin man. That’s the reason he has no religion but making use religions to fulfill his wish. He thinks he is god. But may be dog.

GOD has mercy!, GOD has sympathy! GOD has…………..etc..How could a Mercy God control by a ordinary man and make people surferring? Do you think the God would listen to you? then you are the GOD? Let the time prove your statement whether it is true or false .Every type of religion in this world also ask people to do good things, speak good words ,think good thoughts…………etc , otherwise they could not classified as real religion ,they are evils would lead you go to Hell for suffering.
Hey Tikus , Please do not create your CAUSE AND EFFECT. Every thing in this world is just a ILLUSION .Don’t take it so seriously ! Please save your wording .You have to pay for your own KARMA !!!.
IF a person purposely to interfere or invade to the other person KARMA .then you have to pay for Double Karma for your life and the other party in the present or in the future recarnation.it would depend on how soon the KARMA fruit ripening.
PLEASE NOTE: Every living thing and non-living thing in this world have to pay for their own cause and effect and their own KARMA .No body could manipulate and control them. This is the Law of Nature and The truth of this World.
Just let you aware:
A person who know how to talk and express for a simple idea would effectively make people accept otherwise the result would be turned to negative!!!. Thanks!!!

DO we need a 86 years old man to be paid millions to be a forecaster?? Surely not. Look at him, every times when he entered a venue with insufficient air-conditioning, he would feel very uncomfortable and took off his coat. Don’t lie to us that you liked to keep working, if you are doing those hard works….try collecting plates and washing toilets like many old senior citizens are doing now.

we should get this guy to have a dialogue session with his 3rd class citizens. One without a script for him to depend, and one where the audience are neutral, not ypapist, and that there will not be any unfair consequences should you speak your mind. Since he always so free take plane go here go there give talks. Maybe he should connect with his own people first.
After all, majority of the tax collected goes to him. I wonder how much is his income tax slip every year. Actually, he need to pay or not, no one really knows also. The salary we pay him every month can feed how many humans of the same age as him? How many beggars everyday at orchard road when his entourage pass by?
I’m not saying that another political party can run the country better. But can he justify why is his pay so high. No No, why is he still in office? His son can’t make it is it? Like that i bring my father go in take exam with me can?

Please respect old people and senior citizen in this world; they have been contributing their life to their country!!!.
Please save your wording and don’t penalize old people!!!
I am sure you would face the same air intake problem in your body if you could live up to 86 years old???
Old people facing air intake difficulty whenever there is a change of environment is very common therefore we always emphasize exercise to keep the momentum of our organs in the body so we could live healthier and live longer.
Just let you know DEAD GOD would not suddenly take away old people life .Some people with very young age they suddenly disappear from this world because of healthy problem and natural disaster.
I wonder whether we could live to the age of 86 years because I realize that the lifespan of humans is very short, living in between breaths. Anytime our life could vanish from this world.
Job got no different in values. whether you are a King of a state or you are a taxi driver for a cap to serve people or you are a mate to serve your owner or you are a worker washing toilet, sweeping the road side drain or cleaning rubbish and pouring away shit for people .their value of contribution is the same .their job is the pride of their life, they have been contributing their life to this world, they are our models, our teachers and we should fully respect them ,We need them VERY VERY MUCH for our life !!! THANKS

Come on, don’t be silly. Not everyone is physically capable at any age. Some are not working “down there” already, shouldn’t they be retiring?
IT IS A HEALTH ISSUE, NOT A CHOICE OR ENFORCEMENT ISSUE.

I followed the retirement age proposal issues in UK recently, basing on views of different parties published I believe that they are pros and cons on having no retirement age limit in Singapore. As a worker above the age of 60 my first impression was that did our political leaders sensed that due to the ever increasing cost of living in Singapore majority of Singaporean will need to work extended years in order to cop with the cost of living in Singapore? Did they see that those saving we have in our CPF after deducting the housing cost may have little left for retirement? Or perhaps the government could see that in the near future our working population could not afford our fast aging population? However, as senior citizen, in order to cop with the ever increasing cost of living (not standard of living) I welcome the suggestion of having no limit on retirement age but however there are issues that I could see immediately such as medical cost, insurance and CPF contribution etc. Unless guidelines and legislation spelled out effectively I believe it is unlikely that private employers are willing to hire older workers with higher medical and insurance costs. Moreover there are general perception of employers including those in position in our government in Singapore that most of the older workers are less productive, unable to learn new skills and not willing to change and adapt. Government bodies and their related organizations should set example of willing to hire older local workers instead of putting age limit in their employment requirements.
Basing on my experience and recent observation, age plays very important part in getting hired, public and private organizations alike. Some of my friends around my age and I always feel that employers in Singapore consider those above 50 years old morons and those above 60 years old handicaps. Now-a-day It is difficult to find employment advertisements of credible positions without age limit in Singapore, including those employment advertisements put up by local government, statutory boards and their related organizations.
Age discrimination is common in Singapore and unless the government is willing to lead the change, with or without retirement age limit makes no different to older employees like me. We will remain morons and handicaps at the mercy of employers on hiring and firing.
