Singaporeans wack Lee Kuan Yew for “insensitive” suggestion on not having a retirement age

Author: PAP strongman Lee Kuan Yew’s suggestion that there should not be a retirement age for Singapore workers was greeted with derision and opprobrium by the majority of Singaporeans.
During a dialogue session with unionists a few days ago, Lee called on elderly Singaporeans to be more “productive” and work as long as they can, citing himself as an example.
“You work as long as you can work and you will be healthier and happier for it. If you ask me to stop working all of a sudden, I think I’ll just shrivel up, face the wall and just that,” he said.
At 86 years of age, Lee is probably the oldest living MP and minister in the world. By his own admission, he is not doing much work lately, except doing “forecasting”.
Lee’s comments sparked a massive outroar among Singaporeans with more than 300 comments posted on the Yahoo Fit to post blog so far, many of whom expressing their desire to retire and condemning him for his “insensitivity.”

I know of ppl who do not have to work but living off rental luxuriously. This only concerns ppl in the lower rung. Lee’s public proclaimation that he cannot imagine himself not working may be a hint that he is intending to contest in the next general election and stay on as the “forecaster extraordinarie” of Singapore which is costing Singaporeans more than S$3 million dollars a year to maintain.

Retire – shrivel and face the wall, that is for people who has no other interests or hobbies, or aspirations, other than make money as much as one can or fanatically attached to one’s BIG Ego of power, position and fame, refusing to let go. At old age when we retire, there are so many things we could do to keep us busy, from doing things we missed when we were young busy struggling to put food on the table for our family. We could repay our gratitude to society by doing volunteer work and helping the deprived fellow citizens. We do not need to be paid $3 million a year to continue working after 62. It will be a very sad society where everybody has to work from cradle to grave just to feed oneself. I am afraid such suggestion means the State does not bother to care for the aged and sick.

I was so happy & proud after reading LKY’s speech. I immediately emailed by relatives overseas the article and asked them to prepare to be even more welcomed by PAP Govt’s welcoming arms. In addition to the more than 100,000 foreigners coming in over the next few months, this means ever increasing rentals for my HDB flat and fatter profits for me. Of course I pay my dues to the Govt in the form of income and property taxes. That’s how things work.
You pathetic jokers don’t know how to think at all. Singapore is a place where the authorities value you, if you are able to generate money, profits and increase the value of assets (flats, properties, stocks, bonds etc). Too bad 99.99% of you Stupidporeans don’t know how. No wonder the Govt is damn pissed with such a pathetic population.
Look, I’m able to read the property markets, and got a 4-rm Toa Payoh Central flat in 2003 at only $260K. After the biggest stock market crash in 80 years occurred in 2008, I began to watch the property market again carefully. Once the stock markets began recovering sharply in Apr 2009, that’s when I aggressively went to bargain for a condo. I also made sure I got HDB’s approval to rent my Toa Payoh flat before I signed the sales agreement for the condo.
The Toa Payoh HDB flat is fully paid-up already. The $2.5K monthly rental is pure profit to me, and helps me to cover the mortgage on my condo as well. Any graduate can do the above just as well, I don’t care whether you are citizen or foreigner. But from what I see and from my colleagues, it seems only foreigners and PRs are smart enough to do the above. Many of my fellow PR clique have done exactly the above, and reaping the well-earned fruits of their labours.
Time for you stupidporeans to wake up, or become extinct!

If he had retired, he could have been there to really advice those who took charge, instead of

But their poor calibre is the result of his policies.
There is also no one (brave enough) to rein him in, like
his old colleagues would have done in the early days.
They would have shot down this latest mad plan to have an intellectual

One can foresee bigger problems — Indonesia will cut back on gas sales.
There IS going to be a screwup on water. How much does it cost to

Were there re-negotiations after mahathir left? One johor contract ends
in 2012. It does not look it will be renewed.
And how do you build homes underground in the future if there is already not
enough space for drains now? And for sure all his little new citizens are not

Why is nothing being done about using our many islands — for homes, to grow food? They could
have food factories e.g highrise vegetable, rice growing units, on them.
