Low interest Rate Policy Punishes Retirees / Savers, Rewards Speculators / Banks / GLC’s

Our goverment’s policy of maintaining cheap money/low interest rates (below inflation) for the last few years is really punishing (there is a more accurate word starting with “s” ) retirees/savers and making it easy for speculators/banks to borrow cheap money and make big profits to pay huge bonuses. When...

PAP Minister without portfolio and NTUC Secretary-General Mr Lim Swee Say is “optimistic” that Singaporeans will get higher pay rise this year on the back of an improving economy. However, he wants companies to reward the workers in a “fair” manner based on “contribution and performance.” “…..what...

P1 and P2 not having exams to accomodate foreigners?

On 14 July 2010, I read a tiny article on the New Paper titled, ‘No more exams for Primary 1 and 2 students from 2013′. MOE targets that in 3 years time, P1 and P2 students would no longer have mid and end of year exams. They will apparently be assessed through methods like “show and tell” and keeping...

Read More →

New book puts Singapore’s death penalty on trial

New book puts Singapore’s death penalty on trial

To give a new twist to an old saying: Justice unevenly applied is justice denied. Alan Shadrake, in his new book, Once a Jolly Hangman — Singapore justice in the dock, shows how uneven it is. It’s a tour de force covering cases from the early 1990s to nearly the present, many of them ending with the prisoner meeting...

FT: The PAP needs to be toppled just like the Barisan National in Malaysia

FT: The PAP needs to be toppled just like the Barisan National in Malaysia

I am a Malaysian who have just ‘quitted’ Singapore to return to Malaysia after 11 years’ stay. Me and my husband, both professionals decided to leave before my child enter primary school. Singapore used to be a fantastic place to stay e.g. 10 years’ back but has now turned into a Disneyland: good to visit...

What are the KPIs for the Environment Ministry in flood prevention?

What are the KPIs for the Environment Ministry in flood prevention?

OPINION Five floods in less a month with millions of dollars of losses – an unenviable “track record” which will see the Environment Minister from most developed countries getting the sack, but not PAP Minister of Environment Yaacob Ibrahim who may ironically receive a pay rise at the end of the year. The...
