Mah Bow Tan: 16,000 BTO flats for first time home buyers next year
With the elections around the corner, beleaguered PAP National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan quickly announced that HDB would be building some 16,000 BTO flats in 2011 to meet rising demand from home buyers which raise the question why he had not done so earlier.
The prices of HDB flats have sky-rocketed in recent years due to a limited supply of flats in the face of growing demand caused partly by the relentless influx of foreigners into Singapore.
Though the PAP announced its ambitious plan to increase Singapore’s population to 6.5 million people via immigration way back in 2005, the number of flats built between 2006 – 2008 is the lowest over the years.
Only 3,183 flats were built in 2008 when Singapore accepted 20,000 new citizens and 90,000 PRs who were allowed to purchase resale flats in the open market by the PAP regime.

[Source: HDB Financial Report 2008/2009]
As there are insufficient new flats being built to meet the demands of both Singaporeans and the new citizens, many have to purchase flats in the resale market, thereby jacking up prices in the process.
Below is a graph illustrating how the rise in the prices of resale flats coincides with the rise in the number of foreigners in Singapore between the years 2000 and 2008, courtesy of Kojakbt, the moderator of 3in1kopitiam:

While Mr Mah has admitted he had been “caught off-guard” by the astronomical prices of HDB flats, he is adamant that they are affordable to Singaporeans and chided home-buyers for being “fussy” and having “unrealistic” expectations.
With increased disgruntlement towards him from the citizenry, Mr Mah appeared to change his tact lately by saying there is an “imbalance” in the supply of new flats.
“Going forward, I can safely say that we will continue to see this growth, and therefore we are preparing for continued supply. We are confident it will be taken up. It will be at least 16,000 new flats,” he was quoted as saying in Channel News Asia.
He also urged flat owners not to compete with first time home buyers in the resale market:
“If you’re a second-timer, you already have a flat to stay in. And if it’s not urgent, please consider holding back a while, until the resale market stabilises,” he added.
The increasingly unpopular Mah is likely to face the wrath of voters in the next general election. However PAP strongman Lee Kuan Yew warned that Singaporeans will be DAFT if they cast a protest vote against Mah and flat prices will drop should he lose his seat in Parliament.
Debunking official myths of HDB flats series:
1 Myth 1: Singaporeans are “owners” of their HDB flats
2. Myth 2: HDB flats are “affordable” to most Singaporeans
3. Myth 3: Rising prices of HDB flats “generate” wealth for Singaporeans

Let’s not be daft and sell our flats now on high prices and when Malboro lose his seat in Parliament, we can then buy again at low prices.
During the interval , we can all be homeless so that Vivian also lose his seat in Parliament and after all this we can all celebrate with all three meals in a restaurant !

You track record has been terrible. It is time for you to go, that is the last honorable thing for you to do. Forget about the S$2 million plus fat salary. You must have earned enough to afford a few more condos. Why hang on? Wouldn’t you feel ashame if you lost one more time?
Please, we don’t want to see your face for any 5 years. Please go! Now!

YOU BETTER PRAYED HARDER that it won’t become “better” or “betterest” news with 16,000 young couples trapped in “high-rise” impossible-of-a-lifetime-settlement mortgage when the global economy crashes next year.
If that unfortunately eventuate, do the 16,000 young couples have an option of a withdrawal then with a refund of the booking fee and termination of all other financial obligations since the delayed trap was caused by “imbalanced” housing planning of great seemingly “unbalanced” intellectual minds of no “fantastic” ability?

More BTO means NOTHING good for Sinkaporeans who already own HDB flat.
IF PM Lee really slows down intake of FTs and Imported Citizens into Sinkapore and then INCREASE the supply of HDB flats, it can only lead to one thing: The Price of HDB flats will take a Dive, simple Demand and Supply thingy.
Then MM Lee will come out and say after the GE, see, I told you if you don’t vote for MBT, your HDB price will fall, right?

The 16000 new units promised by the toad-faced incompetent MBT farker is not even enough to house the 100,000 FOREIGNERS that PAP wants to let in who may become PRs eligible for HDB.
MBT is the toad-faced farker responsible for ERP.
MBT is also the toad-faced farker responsible for putting a FOREIGN WORKERS DORM housing over 1,000 FOREIGN WORKERS right in the middle of the RESIDENTIAL Serangoon Gardens Estate.
MBT is an idiot. It is as simple as that.
Tampines residents, please vote him out. Thanks.

With a conniving media – all that is uttered and espoused by the incumbents, (in this instance Mr Mah)has to be taken at face value cos HDB being a monopoly – from pricing to availability no one really for sure knows what is transpiring. Who is there to verify? Parliamentary proceedings – an utter sham! Media no more main but lame and appalling is the coverage – all one sided and cheorograhped lah.
Intuition tells me it is a political tool that is used to manipulate and of course undeniably, irrefutably Singaporeans are indeed paying a high ”price” not in terms of dollars alone.
PS – Many in TR post and whine or simply hurl remarks on many issues or single out a certain person or instiution that negatively impact the people and the nation as a whole. In my opinion and it is closer to the truth lah – ie., it is the anomalous one-party system that has been exploited and unwittingly left many wondering why it has regressed to such a sorry state of affairs – not only in terms of HDB but other areas like tranportation, health, education and …. yes, it is understandable to express frustration, vent emotions but sadly nothing is going to change. Change can happen only when and if the coviction to elicit change comes thru intelligent voting.
Undo the mistakes of the past and unlearn and hopefully sense prevails at the polls.

I see no fairness to upgraders and downgraders as they have to compete with PRs for the resale flats especially for sons of Singapore who have served NS. God knows when the resale market will ever stabilise with the influx of more foreigners. By the time when one saved enough to buy a four room flat, the prices keep escalating and one had to settle for a smaller unit.
It is time HDB do something for this group of people. As pure Singaporeans, we should be given more incentives than non-Singaporeans. (Perhaps HDB can consider waiving the resale levy and allow this group of people to buy BTO flats)

HDB is inflated for 50% in the last few years when salary is stagnant due to economy crisis. Increase supply will no halt price increase.
HDB price is controlled by 2 fundamental support: Bank loan and Governmental control rentals on the cheapest housing. It is not a supply problem anymore as stated by MSM. If no one can afford, why the sales still well supported? Reason : extended mortgage period from 20 to 40 years.
HDB make a quick profit from citizen who could have use the same amount of money on more quality living. Most are screwed for a lifetime when you committed more than 33% combine family income. New PR from will not hesitate to take all risk when bank approve their loan based on 45 years mortgage loan because rentals is more expensive than installments which can be recover when the HDB is sold. This is conveniently to say the HDB is now screwing you at least 2 generations of saving like Japan. We will be the same like Japan : Stagnant growth, low birth rate, every year change PM due to unresolved problems, rising of new Yakuza and many problems you can see in Japan. However we are not that bad compared to third world country where even managers cannot afford any housing in the widest income gap places.
This is not due to mistakes made by policy makers but I feel it is being planned to be like this. This is no choice because of greed of globalist speculation on properties worldwide especially in Asia.
If Warren Buffet and Bill Gate are really sincere, which I do not believe at all, why not they write off the US debt together for US citizen?
Singapore could have counter property price with gradual appreciation of Singapore dollar and further cut down the salary.
These actions will neutralize regional speculations of higher cost of building materials, inflation pressure driving from properties price while making the living standard about the same. Local developers make the same profit which allows them to exchange to other country currency to invest. However, current situation is local developer resort to increase prices instead.
Currency is a buffer for these shock when regional properties nose dive when their government decided for a controlled meltdown.

I agreed with LKY that Sinkies are daft.
Most good policies made in the past 5 years are mean for new citizens and PRs to keep them coming, and stupid sinkies thought they benefit.
Say Medisafe use in overseas hospital,
Education change,
new Bus fare structures, because they stay in ulu place and need to change bus
Money sucking policies are then meant for you sinkies, like
no retirement
increase medisafe
decrease cpf,
high medical cost

flood

Heard from some civil servants that the GE to be held in Nov/Dec, riding on the “good news” of more GDP, massaged statistics marketed by Shit Times, including purportedly more jobs and less unemployment. It also gives Maboh more time to spin stories to pacify citizens who cannot afford resale HDB.
The authorities were debating whether Sep or end-of-year, but too many things happening in Aug/Sep to prepare for GE, coz too many civil servants and schools kenna arrowed for YOG liao.
Actually new HDB are also barely affordable, even if you sign up for a smaller flat in less desirable locations. Singapore may be facing a historical time, where for the first time in our history, the children are having to live a lower standard of living than their parents (e.g. smaller flat than their parents, living in ulu parts of the island, confirm cannot retire, etc.)

Oh the true bred Singaporeans, especially those who were and are unable to get their HDB flats inspite of several applications and for several years
already, and also those who are waiting for their flats to get settle down, but are hopelessly shoved aside by the ever escalating cost of the flats, pardon this high mortal, for he knows not what he is spouting!!
One day, he says the citizens are choosy, next he says he is caught off-guard,next he says there are sufficient flats to go around, next he says the flats are ‘affordable’, next he says there is ‘imbalance’ and now he says,” I will build more flats”!!
What’s is f#*king job?? Isn’t it his Bl#*@dly job to build flats for the
Singaporeans?? and to ensure that each and every Singaporeans will have a decent roof over their heads??
The whole HDB property market out there is spinning out of control and the prices have reached sky high, mainly caused by the shortage, and this inturn is caused by the FTs. This scenario has been repeatedly high lighted
here, there and everywhere, and this mortal just turned a deaf ear to all the ramblings on the ground!!Just ‘cos the GE is around the corner, he is desperately trying to cover his rear, by declaring that he will build so much, so much flats this year and next.
Why now and not 3 or 4 years back?? By now, all the flats would have been completed and Singaporeans should have been moving in!!
You have taken Singaporeans for granted by spinning all the craps about
HDB housing issues, and it is pay back time!!

Singapore got no land. have a policy and law to allow owners to renovate and create flat within a flat. First priority sell to own children. Parents use the sales proceeds as cash for retirement and take care of grand children. When aged, also no strength to clean the house. Smaller is better. Japan and HK gave us lessons, smaller houses are easier to take care. Children can leave their children with grand parents to look after. They have privacy, yet live with parents. Government no need to build so many flats. When parents die, the children take over, and move to the smaller unit. Their children marry and take over the other. We grow back kampong spirit. And precious land in Singapore….go build huge retirement villages for the super rich of the world, plus special Arab Village. Create new age industries to serve the aging. When the super rich invest in Singapore…money remain and don’t get flushed out…and we have jobs to do…So…why harp on more HDB flats? Build within and stay with your parents. U don’t need to live a life of debt buying a brand new flat or worse, a resale flat at higher price that is already 25 years old.

“How many of the first timers are Native Singaporeans and how many are Newbie Citizens from their FT & FW pool ever since inceptions of foreign workers policy? Also, how many are from FY 2010, 2009, 2008 back to when Woody Goh started bringing them in and telling us about water shortage problems due to Water Agreement Renewal with Malaysia. His 14 years as Pm and LHL’s 6 years as PM adds up to a 20 year or TWO DECADES of foreigners good of Native Singaporeans to get jobs! When WE got early and earlier retrenchments and retirements instead! TELL US Mr. MBT!”

Singapore has never been home for quite a while now. Singapore is a hotel, and the room rates are to the highest bidder. Oh, there is a mandatory foreigner quota placed on the occupancy rates too.
Even if you were to obtain a HDB flat, it’s nothing more than an overpriced pigeon hole with a 99-year old lease. I can’t believe people still inject such emotional significance into such a poor deal.

My greatest regret is having children. They are wonderful children. When the gahmen wanted to encourage more babies with tax incentives etc in the past (and baby bonus now), gullible Singaporeans believed that they are trying to help us provide a good life for our children. Now our children have no homes, feel frustrated and hopeless, unable to plan for their future and my heart bleeds for them. It is just like gahmen’s policy to allow more cars on the road: now we have no car parks and their solution is to increase the parking fee. Applying the same logic, now they can increase the price of flats too! WHAT KIND OF PLANNING IS THIS?

Open market for a 4-room flat now costs $400,000 to 500,000. So new HDB flats will be priced close to the market price, thus making exorbitent profit. Clever move, but at what cost to the citizen. Does this set our alarm bells ringing? How our next generation going to afford a flat? We will applaud if HDB sells their new 4-room flat at $200,000 to $250,000, thus cooling off the open market – citizen’s move.

I thought your hobby is to target rank and file activists and average migrant workers trying to learn a skill…
By the way, the chinese tabloids are quite cooperative not to report on your homophobic adventures here.
Bro, I don’t target people for the sake of targeting people. Rather, I speak out against injustice thrown at Singaporeans. In the case of some of the YPAP fellas I’ve spoken out against, they are usually the “yaya” sort who especially abuse their positions for self-benefits. I would have more respects for them if they truly join YPAP with a heart to help the people of Singapore. Instead, what do we get? People starting companies on the side and doing business with the very RCs they are in control. I’m sure every transaction must have been aboveboard but surely, such actions will cause them to lose their moral standings in the eyes of the public.
With regard to migrant workers learning a skill, bro, ask yourself, is this why Singapore is bringing millions of FTs into Singapore? To enable them to learn a skill or 2? Have we become a charity organization? If they can learn a skill or 2, good for them. But the primary need of Singaporeans has to be satisfied first. Singapore is created by Singaporeans and for Singaporeans first and foremost. Pls remember that.
As for SPH reporting, quite frankly, I wouldn’t give a damn. Alternative sites like SBF, 3in1, TOC, TR, the many blogs etc are precisely set up to satisfy a need – to promote, show and present a different viewpoint from our Govt controlled mainstream media!

This self created bubble is not sustainable because of the social and physical problems created.
No other country in the world is stupid enough to increased their population by 40% in such a short time just to inflate property prices.
Of course the only winner is the govt who owns the most land thru compulsory acquisitions and is the biggest landlord by far.

I see your snake scales are very thick. A truly forked tongue, I must say. But very weak response.
Let us be clear on one single very vital point here. Every one of those reasons are after-thoughts. You’re just trying to slither your way out.
By the way, I hate to rub this in, but you miss out on another reason you played up in your personal attack: sexuality. How convenient can it be for you to forget that?
Now, point by point.
1. Yaya people
You can get into fights in any forum. Then you can call these people yaya. You’ll sure be able to find many. And don’t you find many abusive postings here? You have no issue with them?
2. Companies on the side or HDB unit
By your logic, all school volunteers are more definite targets for you. Get at them, snake. Anyway, if they are aboveboard, what’s wrong? Jealous? You’re very naive. So fresh and green? Work harder.
3. Serve people
Do they need to keep a log book for you to check on what they do, how much they do? I can tell you many people aren’t interested to do what they do, because they can spend their time much much more gainfully($$$) outside and they want to keep their personal times to enjoy themselves and spend with their families.
4. Migrant worker
You are out of work? You hate them so much that you want to go for their throat. Boycott this and that. Who suffer in the end? No idea? Sure? Not sure? Aga aga? What a loose cannon. When a loose cannon anyhow fire, you may just fire into our own hull.
5. Singapore for Singaporeans
Very comical. Do you stand for all Singaporeans? Really delirious delusion. No wonder, you say they are scolding Singaporeans dogs and third class when in fact they are impatient with you.

To stink…..yeah your comments really stink..hahaha..you got no depth to your reasoning whatsoever..you are out of your depth here in TR..i’ve been trying to figure out the kind of person you are…I dun think you are even Singaporean…done NS?….I dun think so…
You are most probably a foreigner or new PR or new citizen from some 3rd world country….i suggest you concentrate on your RC committee activities and maybe you can come to my estate to help hang up more flags….seems not many residents hang flags this year…hahaha

Oh, here come’s the labelling part. So, you say
- “Stinky Kojak” hasn’t done NS
- “Stinky Kojak” is a foreigner or PR or new citizen
- “Stinky Kojak” is in RC committee
Hey stinky Kojak, are you any of the above?
Come on, you’re so typical. And you forgot to use another label. “Stinky Kojak” is a homosexual man.
If labelling is all you can manage, you’ve done a great disservice to your idol, though I admit you’ve done a great job emulating him.
Look at my posting. The first para is a greeting. The numbered ones are there to humour you guys. The 2nd and 3rd are where you are cut down to size before the fatal blow.

I wonder if prices or value of flats would diminish if Mr Mah kicks the bucket before the elections. The same also would Singapore collapse if LKY kicks the bucket before elections?
So dont play play, only in Singapore, uniquely Singapore that is a politician can bluff his way thru and sadly this has been going on for much too long. Not cos they are intelligent but cos the system is inherently flawed and it open to all kinds of …..(fill up what comes to mind lor)

Hey Stinky, your fan is taking a leaf from you. It doesn’t look good on you. You better take him in hand.
After losing an argument, he wish to target me based on certain criteria and labels. Oh boy, isn’t that so tell tale of your methods. I hope nobody spots that. That’ll be embarrassing.
What’s more, I’m worried he may never be able to twist out any “after-thought” allegations since he’ll never know my identity. And thank god for that, I don’t have to worry for the safety of my family.
Please counsel your fan.

The PM and all the PAP MPs should call themselves fire fighters instead of politicians. What a lack of forsight to be government.
Hibernating behind the desk and only crack from their cocoons when election comes around. Then hibernate again as usual.
