Majority of Singaporeans are not interested in celebrating National Day

Singapore’s National Day on Monday has given the islanders an extended weekend and so many of them have poured into Johor Baru that many main roads are experiencing massive traffic jams, according to the Star.

jamsThe traffic congestion, that began at about 10am, has worsened and was expected to go on well after midnight, said Johor Baru (South) Traffic chief Deputy Supt Ooi Kok Seong on Monday.

The roads worst hit are those near the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex here.

“It is mostly bumper to bumper crawl at the major roads here.

“A heavy volume of Singaporean cars which entered the city is the major factor for the congestions,” he said.

He added that traffic was at a standstill in some roads but 20 traffic police personnel had been deployed to help ease congestion at some major intersections in the city.

It would appear that the majority of Singaporeans are not interested in celebrating our National Day.

Why else would thousands and thousands of them leave Singapore then?

  • This year’s National Day celebration has a new flavour. You will note that media cock played an important role in dessiminating the PAP culture into the heartlands by showing excerpts of the various grassroot members celebrating and waving their hands.
Furthermore, they bring the Armed Forces hardware into various constituencies..those that shows signs of unhappiness eg Sengkang, Choa Chu Kang, Jurong.
It is a sign of desperation and that elections are around the corner.Indirect and subtle campaigning has already started by using National Day as the opportunity to showcase the PAP.
They forget one thing…I can be loyal to my country which is the correct thing but I may not support you!

my grandfather told all Singaporeans Chinese are from mainland China decades/

tell it to the taiwanese. does hong kong locals have any choice as it was returned to china.

tell it to the beijing locals and shanghainese and ask how they treat people from other provinces. ask your grandfather (or your great grand father if he is still around) about the clashes from the the different clansmen or dialect group.

in fact, ask the recent chinese immigrants from mainland china how they treat one another back home which you may well be importing their different cultural nuances & behaviors (be it positive or negative).

there is this thing called identity which cannot be manufactured just by a flip of a switch. it is human nature and it is all about human psychology. try to go against human nature & you are in for a good good show.

    —————————————————-

The majority of Singaporeans are not interested in celebrating National Day and not the majority of Singaporeans left for overseas. But the huge numbers of Singaporeans leaving for Malaysia is a good indication of Singaporeans growing apathy towards what is essentially a day for propaganda especially since the lives of many citizens have become worse.

  • Poor And Jobless:

What is there to celebrate when the fear of losing one job is getting more real than ever before. With more and more “cheaper, younger and faster” FTs/FWs for employers to choose, my guess is, most employers will simply get rid of older Sporeans workers and replace them with FTs/FWs in the years to come. Employers of today are very different from employers of past. Today, employers focus on making money and more money. Workers are treated just like digits. In the past, most employers treat their workers (employees) with respect and compassion. Employees on the other hand, treat their employers with loyalty, love and dedication.

BTW, how many national flags flew voluntarily in your housing block and how many “no show” of even grudging support put up by RCs and paid foreign workers? The percentage difference I see around near where I stay is at least 95% ‘I can’t be bothered” and 5% “yes I do under duress” crowd.

Are you blind or unintelligent of simple observation and thinking mind? Still need a self-praise survey to give you “politically correct” responses to boast later by dressing up a naked shame of hypocritical farce and shame?

I can only speculate is that they themselves are frozen cold of self-shame and anxious to avoid the awkward embarassment in well-founded expectation of what the most likely “KNOWING” response to appeal will be.

Not a single person says they like SIngapore and that their children’s future is bleak.

I was even told that one guy who is delivering gas tanks, have already immigrated to the USA. And another lady brought his son who is only 10 years old to go to Australia so he won’t have to attend NS.

This whole situation is getting from bad to worse and our leaders are still in a state of denial, thinking that foreigners are good for our economy while Singaporeans are getting hurt.

I think perhaps this is what the PAP wants. To force Singaporeans out of the country and replaced by foreigners who are easier to control.

The argument is completely valid because they are leaving while the nation is celebrating its day of independence. You tell me if there are any Americans who leave their contry in droves on July 4th? It is completely analogous to compare it to other public holidays since National Day is very different. If any of them had a shred of interest in National Day, they would spend it in Singapore celebrating.

As long as the many issues (bread and butter) faced by us Singapoorean are not solved by PAP soon, I guess most of the Singaporean dont feel proud or have the mood to celebrate National Day. PAP please take note that we as citizens are very unhappy with the present situation. To all Singaporean whom are feeling the pressure by the PAP unfair policies hopefully next GE we are able to vote for the opposition to shown them we are not stupid and just follow blindly on all their policies. We are forced to except all their nonsence and they think we do not have any choice but will still support them? But too bad there are too many GRCs, guess most of the citizens are not going to have the chance to vote, that why they are so arrogant because they know they sure win no matter how unhappy you are. The ft said to me again, at least you can still take the pledge tonight. i said to him that he must be a new citizen thats why he is so excited about it. i highlighted to him that singapore is been invaded by the fts and pure singaporean are losing out in every ways. i think Singapore’s national day does’nt belong to us singaporean anymore.
reciting the pledge means nothing anymore.

@HolyCow- You have the choice of not collecting the goodie bags if you are really anti-National Day Celebrations. In other words, you do not want anything to do with National Day Celebrations. You are easily bought over just for few goodie bags. This also goes to all who are anti-National Day Celebrations and yet take part in watching tv, reading news, taking a national holiday, etc. True anti-National Day celebrations opponents should have absolute nothing or anything related to national day celebrations even to the extent of going back to office/factory to work, etc. If the office/factory is closed for the day, they should volunteer their services to the poor and out citizens or donate the day’s pay to such persons. In other words, they are still working and national day celebrations mean nothing to them at all. What a shame for those anti-Singapore National Day celebrations and shamelessly reap the national day rewards!

@wtf: What sort of theory? Let the minority form the gahmen and rule over the majority? Loyal and patrotic Singaporeans celebrating National Day need not be teary eyes and cry. Perhaps you do and it does mean everybody is like you.

the number of voters in singapore for the 2006 General Election totalled slightly over 1.4 millions out of a possible 3.5 million population. All of these voters missed the chance of voting is by chance but by PAP unfair practise of walkover using GRC.

Abolish GRC and walkover, allow the whole population of singapore citizens to vote, then we can see who’s the minority…imbecile!

what so shameful lah Devagi. grab the goodies (anyway, it comes from your taxes in the first place) and still do what you should do comes election time.

“If the office/factory is closed for the day, they should volunteer their services to the poor and out citizens or donate the day’s pay to such persons.”

wow devagi, so strictly defined huh. a lot of people do voluntary work & give donation not only on holidays – some do it during normal days or after office hours.

Debate and argue sensibly and logically. A person who is not able to write and argue sensibly and logically and resort to vulgarity in a debate betrays his inferiority. If you have a valid point say so for all to read!

Got Singapore flags flying – you say put up by your friendly neighbourhood RC members. No Singapore flags flying, Singaporeans not celebrating. Head you want to win, Tail you also want to win. So, you are undecided whether Singaporeans are celebrating the National Day, correct?

@Devagi. No problems, everyone can celebrate National Day. If anyone wants to remain loyal to this present government, they can. But remember one thing, always have a back-up plan when the hand that “supposedly” fed you and gained your trust, decides to trade you in for other better offers.
A politician tells you what you want to hear, and makes you think it’s your own idea. Right now, somebody stuck a knife in my back, and if I don’t vote wisely for the next GE, I would have allowed someone to stick the knife in deeper in my back.

Flag or no flag – if one is centred within oneself – one has no need for something to identify with and think that one has a sense of belonging or what-have-you. It is cos one is simply alienated from within, that one needs or seeks out someone or something to have a centre.
The fallacy and the misunderstanding works for politicians!

Did you watch the National Day Parade at the Padang, TV, Internet, etc, and also read the newspapers and talk about it. If you did not do any of the things related to National Day celebrations, you can consider yourself lucky not celebrating the National Day as you simply hate to be born a Singaporean!

hey Devagi…are you a Singapporean? or new PR/Citizen…YPAP etc?
    Did you serve NS?

you talk a lot here…but same old PAP propaganda crap with no real depth or reasoning….more like a spoilt record being played over and over again…dun you have some RC commitee meeting to attend rather than post here??

I have been talking to people on the streets (at coffee shops, provision shops, people who are queueing at grocery stores) about how they feel about Singapore and their future.

Voting for RP or the opp WON’T solve any problem at all. It’s up to RP and opp to ensure their voices heard, no matter what. What makes you think tt by voting for the opp, against PAP, everything will be solved? think. There’s NO SHORTCUT in this world. think. may the best man wins. And right now, the opp appears to be fragmented. I dare not take sucha risk. Look at SDP, look at Chee. They shd UNITE, and not all work for their personal interests per se.
    ———————————————————-

Bro…please think properly…so you say voting for the opp won’t solve any problem?…which means if you continue to vote for the PAP all your problems are solved? It’s the PAP that created the problems in the first place with their short sighted and pro-foreigner policies….

Voting for the opp will be the FIRST STEP towards solving the problems that sg is facing…have to start somewhere…

Funny thing is I keep hearing people say that ‘it is a risk’ to vote for the opposition….well the PAP is bringing in another 100000 FT’s to work here and increase the population to 6.5mil…so you mean this PAP policy is not a risk to our jobs, standard of living,
housing prices, school places for our kids..etc etc?????

Don’t busy talking about the leak of government, but have you think about what you’ve done? Why govt must hire expats instead of using locals to work? Because (one of the reasons) they are willing to work hard eventhough they have to pay HDB loan- Town Council- Utilities- School fees hire than SGrean.

What you pay is your convenience u complain about. If u think u r good enough in term of job why don’t u look for overseas job, just like those expats?

Don’t talk back, proved that u can!

your definition huh ? if you are so good. prove to me that all of you can tahan all the talking back & complain. internet talking & complain, you also want to complain.

look for overseas job ? y not ask those expats whether they can get jobs in their own countries first. if yes, ask them to stay there & so that they can continue to contribute to their countries while we can have more room to contribute to our countries, so win win for all sides.
