Singaporean kayaking in flood waters at Jalan Besar
A Singaporean was captured on camera kayaking in the flood waters at Rowell, Jalan Besar yesterday, much to the chagrin and embarrassment of the increasingly unpopular PAP regime.
The photos have been making the arounds on Facebook and online forums, drawing much delight and laughter from Singaporeans peeved at the inability of the PAP to control the recent spates of flooding:

[Source: RX Ang's Facebook]
The hilarious incident was not reported in the Straits Times or Channel News Asia though Chinese Daily Lianhe Zaobao carried it as a headline on its frontpage with a veiled criticism of the PAP (without referring to the source).
Singapore was hit by flash floods yesterday in several places such as Novena, Thomson, Balestier, MacPherson, Jalan Besar and Changi, the 6th episode is less than two months.
As expected, PAP Environment Minister Yaacob Ibrahim was nowhere to be found, seen or heard. He had earlier claimed that such floods are “freak” events which occur only “once in fifty years.”
The state media has refrained from reporting on the flooding with the Straits Times carrying only a short paragraph on it in an inconspicuous corner.
Despite rising disgruntlement and anger from Singaporeans at the PAP’s gross incompetence, PAP leaders continue to insist that flooding is “unavoidable” in “tropical” Singapore.
PAP strongman Lee Kuan Yew even admonished Singaporeans for wanting everything to be “perfect” and proclaimed that the floodings are an “act of God” which “no amount of engineering” can prevent.
To add salt to the injury, PUB Chairman Tan Gee Paw was given the National Day award of the Distinguished Service Order three days ago by the PAP regime ostensibly for solving Singapore’s “perennial flood problems.”
With the flash floods becoming a regular “once in five days” feature in Singapore, Singaporeans may like to consider buying a kayak like the above for personal transport during rainy days, minus the road tax, COE and ERP.

Aiyoh, now this guy in the flotation device will be tracked , handcuffed and “fixed”. His future down the drain (pun intended). LOL. All for what? Just to show what we ALL already know? That the MIW gah-men is wishy washy & sucks!
Quick, like Mas Selamat, paddle away to JB or Batam, maybe you can retire there safely.

I wouln’t be surprised if this kayak kaki be issued with a summon by the
RTA ( River Tran. Auth)for not displaying his River Tax disc!!
If they can handcuff a photographer during the floods, they can do anything under the cloudy sky!!

Why is there so many floods in Singapore? Rain is the culprit. Must punish rain, fine them a few millions and maybe give them rotans.
According to Mr. Lee KY, if there is a flood, probably the PAP with their huge resources could resolve this issue much better than the opposition. They could pull strings with the top guns and call for the mother of all help while what can the scarce oppositions do. If Singaporeans vote the opposition, they will probably die drowning in the rain water.
So Singaporeans if they are smart, they should vote for the PAP. However there is just one tiny little issue: When you are are in trouble and approach any PAP MPs, you must first bring along some joss stick and fruits whatever that is pleasing to these majesty. Upon entry you must bow down with joss stick lit up and knees bended down. Make sure you send your offering way before you to these bigger than big MPs otherwise if they find that you are impolite, not pleasing or loud mouth they will send you to court for threatening. After you are done with your grumbling, the deaf frog will turn to you and give you a nice gold trimmed card laced with the words,” You Die Your Business”. This is their main motto.
Good luck.

Flooding in such a old neighbourhood is ridiculous and should have been dealt with a long time ago, but in all fairness, Friends who have had offices along Rowell have told me that this is like an annual flood that would happen during low tides.
I believe that is why the guy knew to standby his kayak.

What is Japanese engineeering feat?
The PUB Chairman Mr Tan winning the National Day DSO Award should be given a paid overeas trip as a reward to go into the silos and tunnels.
Where?
Go to Saitama. Please check out this link, which I received from my contacts:

It is the act of God….else how to explain that places that have not flood in the last fifty years keep flooding whenever there is heavy rains?
By the way, do not blame the Marina Barrage even though it is just so coincidental that after it became operational, floods are occuring very frequently in Singapore.

Hello, this is act of God lah.
We heng already.
Other country flood damn big one, landslide also have.
Nowadays, ST always publish bigger disaster elsewhere to make you feel good that our problem is small case lah.
But remember ah, no amount of engineering can solve this kind of small case, when compared with those real disasters….?
What calibre of these leader we have here? World highest paid one!
Uniquely Singapore.

Jialat, looks like no amount of engineering (not even the Marina barrage) can solve the flooding problem. We are going back to those good old days.
But why he still can still get an award if we don’t need engineers like him anymore.
Better still pray hard to all the Gods and the Ghosts like ancient China !

Whilst it is true that the govt has made a hilarious explanation of the flood which demonstrate their incompetence and arrogance, this particular example is unfortunately misplaced.
Look at the picture closely!!!
Observe the tyre of the red bicycle behind. At most the water is 1 to 2 inches. The kayak can’t float in this depth of water, so it is a posed photo to exagerrate a non existent situation. The Kayak gives the impression that the flood is like orchard road style at least 12 inches.
I think that even though PAP did very badly in the floods issue (read my posts at
http://www.temasekreview.com/2010/07/22/lee-kuan-yew-no-amount-of-engineering-can-prevent-flooding/comment-page-2/#comments
)
we should not use this photo as an example. There are more opportunities, Guaranteed. Yesterday’s rainfall is nothing. Wait some days, we will get Orchard road style flood. Mr Kayak man, i suggest you park your Kayak behind lucky plaza, you’ll be a celebrity in the days to come.

I wonder, if they will still celebrate ‘water festivals’ for the FTs.
It all started since then.
These country folks celebrate water festivals there because their types of agriculture requires alot of rain. Some youngersters and drunks brought to the streets.
Not for this ‘concrete jungle’.
Stupid MPs thought it is was religious festivals!
It was the ‘Rain God’. Now for the next seven years we will expereince Flood after Flood. Live with it!

Quote: [Singaporean kayaking in flood waters at Jalan Besar.]
The man who was kayaking at the Jalan Besar was lucky as there was no police car at the time. If it is not, he was arrested and locked up inside Police Station cell overnight. Maybe, he would be charge in court on the next day. Singapore policemen like to lord over our citizens in the public place. Hey, friend, you forget the story that a man was arrested at the Outram Hill many years ago and locked up at the police station cell overnight for no reason.

Why only Chinese paper reported this and not ST and CNA?
I guess probably because the Chinese community in SPH wants to hit back at the authority for the ‘handcuff’ incident.
Why the frequenty flood? If you notice, it all started after the Marina Barrage kicks in.
Map:
http://www.pub.gov.sg/annualreport2009/images/strategy_drinkit_map.jpg
Look at the area it covered and how it coincides with all the flooded areas recently.
(hence, the earlier flood some 3 years ago may indeed is freak accident).
Everybody knows that it’s the Marina Barrage, but nobdoy dare say, cos it’s old man’s project.
This is a typical, modern, real life example of ‘the emperor’s new cloths’.

Waterworld!
Pretty soon, the toad-faced MBT would impose ERP on the kayaks.
And pretty soon too, Singapore will be a Waterworld of floating GAMBLING DENS and PROSTITUTION HOUSES.
Thanks PAP. Great Job!

“PAP strongman Lee Kuan Yew even admonished Singaporeans for wanting everything to be “perfect” and proclaimed that the floodings are an “act of God” which “no amount of engineering” can prevent.”
“Act of God”??? Who the FUCK is Lee Fuck Yew trying to kid, trying to talk down the floods like its some kind of natural disaster? Gee how many people DIED in the past 5-6 floods which he conveniently called “Acts of God”?
The kind of floods we’ve seen in the past 2 months are caused by poorly designed drainage systems, like building a barrage that raises downstream water levels. “Acts of God” are ‘freak events’ like lightning striking LKY’s vehicle in sunny weather.

Downpour and rain would be heavier in cities like Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo, Taipei etc. These first class cities have never had such frequent flooding problems like Singapore.

What’s God got to do with drain management anyway?
In any case, Singapore tourism board can promote yet another hot and exciting Singapore attraction: man-made Orchard riverfront Al Fresco dining and shopping experience.
Singaporeans should also be grateful and celebrate waterfront living in non-waterfront areas. Bukit Timah lake front lifestyle! Take speedboat to school! Just like Swiss standard of living!
Must remember not to park $100000 cars underground though – unless silly angmohs don’t mind paying cut throat insurance. Biz idea: import amphibious vehicles.

As an Overseas Observer I am quite frankly surprised at the Depth of Anger for the PAP Government in these recent floods of GOD !Isn’t the People’s Action Party of 1959 one of Action in oommitment and care ? And the Care Givers aren’t supposed to be sanctimonious, holier than thou in attitude towards the people they serve in the Consituencies ??? Has Singapore really gone down so much in Community Action and Empathy after those million dollars plus salaries etc for Action Commanders of the Cabinets ???? Has PAP long ago become the Pay and Pay Party !PAP{? Singaporeans are heard to say Pukul Ahdi , Pak Party or translated into English Hit Hit Hit Party! Did I hear Hitler Party ?

I second to what lucky singaporeans had to say. Singaporeans are already way much luckier and still making such a big fuss over the tiny weeny petty flood. let’s get a closer look upon the neighboring country such as the unfortunate Indonesia that does have much bigger, frequent, regular and ridiculous rainfall rate throughout the year. come on guys, let’s start to appreciate and be grateful with what you have.

our government is first class ok. pls dun compare our government to Indonesia unless they start to take that kind of pay. i mean we pay $3 million to someone to do nothing much excapt forecasting. maybe we can pay $6 million to employ some rain man too…
