PM Lee promises $9,000 for every NSman in “recognition” of their service
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is giving a National Service Recognition Award of $9,000 for every national serviceman (NSman) in recognition of their contributions to the nation.
Acknowledging that National Service is a “heavy demand” on Singaporeans, PM Lee said the move shows that citizens still come first amidst rising disgruntlement among Singaporeans that they are losing out to the foreigners who have no NS obligations.
The sum will be deposited in tranches into the NSmen’s Post-Secondary Education Accounts and Central Provident Fund (CPF) accounts.
All Singapore men have to serve two years of full-time National Service followed by ten years of reservist which put them at a disadvantage in a tight labor market dominated by foreigners who do not have such obligations.
Though the move is laudable, the paltry $9,000 can hardly compensate Singapore men for the amount of time they spend in NS and reservist and devalues the sacrifices they have made for the nation.
It is only fair that the new citizens go through the same national “ritual” like the rest of us to show their commitment to Singapore before they can be accepted as part of our society.
As one irate netizen Vernon Sim puts it succinctly:
“Please dun issue us that untouchable 9k. I rather you make all PRs or PRs-Citizen-wanabes to serve 2 years of National Service!.
They just can’t be enjoying just like that, the perks of living here, and then praising and enjoying the NDP, writing letters to the Forum Page reprimanding Singaporeans for not appreciating the gahmen. SO NOW, As long as they are 40 yrs old and below, no excuses for them not to serve, since all Singapore men have to serve and take IPPT till 40.”
PM Lee should walk his talk by either lowering the income taxes for NSmen or raising that of the foreigners to sharpen the distinction between the two groups.

Personally I think S$9000 is a bit low for considering citizen’s 2 yrs NS & 12 to 13 yrs Reservist training. Some citizens in training resulted death due to unfortunate accidents & some suffers major injuries ( e.g. fracture , dislocation, serious heat stroke …) that may detrimental to their health in the later years perhaps career advancements & family burden as well. For the rest , at least minor injuries e.g. sprain ankle , sprain wrist or laceration cuts that will definely comes in effect during middle or old age.
We also have to consider some of the citizens with history of asthma , arm fracture or one side total hearing loss or partial hearing loss being upgraded to class B for combat vocation e.g,. infantry rifleman. They have to endure & adjust to the train with 100% fit ones.
I hope gov will factor in all these sacrifices & consider a even better package e.g better monetary or free health or medical care for citizen who serve N.S.

The gesture given by LHL is the right direction. However, the amount can never be enough. PRs should not serve NS. However, all new citizens must serve if it is in the age group. I do remember when Singapore first became independence, the older citizens were serving part-time NS too. If one is not willing to serve NS, one is not committed to Singapore and should not be given new citizen status. We are a nation with NS system. Privilages and responsibilities must go hand in hand.

Why don’t they use the $9k to organise a bigger professional army? Singapore is one of the last few countries with conscription. We are not in 1960s anymore. No matter how much they pay us, NS will still put Singaporeans at a disadvantage in the workplace. In the past this was not a problem, but since PAP opened the floodgates to foreigners and told us to compete on merit.
I know some Singaporeans will insist NS is a must to defend Singapore. So why not let these people walk the talk and volunteer.

National Service is a very special phase of life where one will understand the true meaning of loyalty to our country. Such things cannot be replaced by money. Singaporeans are proud to serve the national service because they believe they are truly contributing to the well being of this country. No amount of money can bribe our fellow men into forgiving the government for bringing foreigners into Singapore without first having to serve National Service.
Furthermore the money that is given to Singaporean will be taxed by government in more ways once they are re elected. They are actually taking our money and returning back to us. Do not fall for the pork barrel because it is a PAP’s election ploy to pacify all of us into a false sense of goodwill.
If any opposition who propose this kind of things I am sure the PAP will contemplate to charge them for treason but if they do it themselves it is ok. Singaporean if you are really a money face, just take the money as goodwill and vote for them. If you are not a money face, I suggest you take the money but don’t vote for them. That is the best you can do for Singapore.
Get ready election is coming at any time now. Reveal yourself as the true citizen’s army. March on fellow men, just take everything they are giving to us but return nothing to them. We are Singaporean and we will do the best we can.

$9000 is peanuts. The amount should be minimum wage for 2 years which totals $48,000.
Already the government is making tons of saving with fewer Singaporeans serving the National Service and with 6 months of savings from NS allowance from previous 2.5 years national service policy.
If they can pay the average FTs PMETs 2K a month (which the FT PMETs are probably being paid for their cheap labor) for economic growth to Singapore, they can also pay $2K a month to National Service man for contributing to maintaining Security and sustaining our way of life for Singapore’s economic growth. Again $9000 is peanuts.
With $9000 its easy to get the monies back. Raise university fees, reduced manpower, reduce national service term again to 1.5 years from 2 years and higher prices in new HDB home sales. What $9000? What impact?.How can $9000 ever help to cover $350,000 minimum costs of home and $$50,000 minimum cost for tertiary education. It still end up Singaporeans will be paying a lot more with the way the prices are inflated and overrated in this god forsaken land of expensive lifestyle with cheap service.

And also I believe it goes to Prove Something – when enough NOISES is made thru netsphere and blogosphere, PAP is Forced to ACT.

There is no such thing of Singapore for Singaporeans. You have seen the talk and read the speech. My advise to Singaporeans, the government can sell our land, our souls, our jobs to the foreigners. But I will never allow them to sell our children to an education system that favours the government stay in power and foreign talents to fill the gap. Most of the foreign talents are worse than our normal stream students. But they seem to be given first class treatment. Thank you but no thank you. I will still live the day to save our children by NOT PUTTING OUR CHILDREN IN THEIR WORTHLESS EDUCATION SYSTEM.

How apt! Just when I was talking about how marginalised the Sporean male is in Singapore. It becomes worse if he’s single and not contributing to the national gene pool. But that’s another story…
Why is this govt. always first to take the monetary route? There is surely a way to make the foreigners contribute to total defence. I don’t buy the PM’s reasons for not making them do NS. Dad’s army, he says. Come on, you are supposed to be the leader. Surely you can make them do something besides serving in the army!
We should welcome foreigners to come here but they should get to stay on a temp. basis. Before they get citizenship, they should serve Singapore and maintain their level of proficiency for the next 10-15 years.
The value of S’porean citizenship has been cheapened. It has come to a point where every Tom,Dick and Harry I meet from overseas tells me they also want S’pore citizenship. The future looks bleak if this govt. doesn’t wake up and start talking to REAL people. There may be just too many YES men around you, PM Lee.

Singaporeans must realize that “Medisave” and “CPF” are merely clever taxes. The money doesn’t belong to you and never has, and it’s the biggest con the PAP has ever successfully done against Singaporeans. By definition, money only “belongs” to you if it is yours to do whatever you want with it, therefore CPF/Medisave does not belong to you.
In other words, the crafty PAP has done another fast one on “daft” Singaporeans by “giving” $9k only to take the complete amount back on the pretext of “saving it up for Stupid Singaporeans who don’t know how to manage their own money”. Isn’t it great being ruled by the PAP?

Why do we get loosers for Foreign Talents. Either they are from third world or the few westerners who cant make it in their own country.
Why cant we attract foreign talents who can invent, produce and make an impact in the world. Can a foreign talent win a Noble prize for Singapore where our so called world class and stressful education system cannot produce.
Then we put our boys further to a waste of time National Service which is worth extra 9K only. And some singaporeans think this is a big and verey good deal. SAVE YOUR CHILDREN NOW, before its too late.

I rather not received any sort of half-f***ed payment-in-kind as this is the easy & cheap way to put to rest the unhappiness about foreigners not serving a single day while enjoying the benefits here.
This is like the Japs’ approach to their World War 2 “comfort women” shame. They paid a pitiful token to the survivors and then considered the matter closed. Henceforth, they just turned a deaf ear whenever this issue got brought up becos they have already made the “necessary compensation”. Not even acknowledgment that such women existed, their textbooks simply whitewashed such facts.
Those that collaborated with the Japs during the Occupation sure learned some useful things from them, don’t they?
So, fellow NSF/Reservists, don’t compromise. Garhem want foreigners to take roots here, then they must serve. NO FREE RIDES FOR THEM.

I like your breakdown of the $9000 and added my own (rounded to the nearest nice number)
This is the ADDITIONAL RECOGNITION given to a Private (lowest rank) by today’s government for serving NS:
$9,000 divide by 30 months = $300/mth = $10/day
$9,000 divide by 26 months = $345/mth = $11.50/day
$9,000 divide by 24 months = $375/mth = $12.50/day
$9,000 divide by 20 months = $450/mth = $15/day
Reservist days are not even factored in yet.
I can already SMELLS the recognition from the government.
Thanks A LOT-

Think about this folks – Power is Singapore is absolute.
Past, they use the education system to stay in Power. Stream 60% of Student population to non academic school, stress them out and make them serve Nation Service. Guarantee votes for Government as 60% of population to scared to vote against government. They cant immigrate as they dont have proper qualifitation and they made to look stupid since only government can save them.
Now, they are going to use Foreign Talent to stay in Power. If you are a new Citizen convert, guess who are you going to vote for? Who else? The Government that gave you the citizenship.
Wow, dont you think this government deserve the Noble Prize for Scheming and Long lasting Power.

What about those who did NS on $150 a month about 10 years back, when Snickers bars also cost about $1.10 and a pack of chicken rice about $2.50? NS allowance has since increased more than threefold, and now there’s this $9000 set aside for EVERY NSman– that is not a small amount if you consider the fact that it is more than or at least almost the annual allowance of an NSman. [What about all those who've served but spent their own savings on further education like getting a degree, and have claimed none of it from their employer?]
If you consider the amount and the number of NSmen in Singapore, you’ll realise that that is an extraordinary effort to improve further the well-being of Singaporean NSmen. It’s never happened before in NS history, as far as I’m concerned. $9000 would at least be good enough for tertiary education in a polytechnic, wouldn’t it?

Correspondingly, a waiter at a hotel can also earn 9k in ONE year.
You know, 2001nsf, before I did my service, I was treated to this talk by some uniformed and rather good looking officers, who presented the usual spread of NS being a growing-up process for males. All the life-long benefits, skills acquired, etc, etc.
And with that of course comes the various tales of how males who didn’t serve national service tend to be more pampered, childish, brattish, etc.
But now, we hear from the PM that certain talents from overseas cannot be compelled to serve national service. Despite that, we still need these people because they are good, and they are useful, they are better than SAF trained men. And we actually should sacrifice just to lure them here.
I’m sure you see where the dissonance in the messages is coming from.

If PAP thinks that $9k could shut us up in demanding PR and FTrash to do NS too, then it is very wrong. My 2.5 years of youth is worth much, much more than that 9k.

Wait, correct me if I’m I misinterpreted.
No one said anything about making the the entire sum available after ORD, i.e. forget about using the money to pay off 3 years of tertiary education.
I wonder if you can fully pay off even one semester’s tuition fees this way.
Let’s say the 9k is all available. We use it on education.
Then how is this amount going to help us when we want to buy a house?
gg.

those who willingly accept the 9k will just be accepting a sweetener from the papayas, and the insult is complete. for all our sacrifices – not least having to LOSE freedom for 2.5 yrs – 9k is NOTHING. i would think the opportunity cost is at least 30k per annum, which makes it 75k for the whole 2.5 yr duration. if the intention of giving 9k is to win over some disgruntled votes, then sorry, it won’t work with me.

dont be really naive…9k/ns man. u think govt really has that kind of $? it is just making a blank cheque. because the 9k will be locked up away n untouchable anyway…and the possiblity of everyone having to utilize that 9k in cpf or special account at a same single time is equivalent to zero. the govt proposes this 9k in the same concept as insurer proposing insurance coverage.

@2001nsf:
What about those who did NS on $150 a month about 10 years back
Relak bro … don’t fall into the PAPies divide and conquer strategy. I served NS in 1990 when monthly allowance was $90/mth. Yes, a big fat fucking 90 bucks a month. But what is so fucking big deal about $9000 that is stuck inside CPF and PSEA? Does this extra $9K finally make the $500K HDB pigeon-hole now fucking affordable?!? Remember it is split into 2 accounts: CPF and PSEA, so you won’t be able to use all $9K for housing, or all $9K for education. Anyway you should have already completed tertiary education right? So what good is PSEA? And I can tell you now that this PSEA will be very restricted to certain educational institutions only.
And for those who think they can withdraw this $9K when you hit 55, sorry. In 3 years time (2013) new CPF rules will go into effect whereby you MUST have the Minimum Sum before you can withdraw the excess CPF money. If you don’t have the Min Sum, then CPF will only allow you to withdraw AT MOST $5K from your CPF.
So from 2013 onwards, you will see many 55 yr olds get the shock of their lives when they can only withdraw $5K from CPF.

Dear TR/Admin
Can you raise a topic on CPF?
The CPF is a ponzi scheme! The government is so secretive & NOT transparent in how the CPF is being managed. It is very likely the CPF is a BIG BLACK HOLE now with billions in US$ lost over the recent years.
As the government is making it increasingly difficult for S’poreans to touch their CPF funds (other than to circulate within the PAP systems such as HDB flats, medical, retirement, children education, etc.) The increasing Minimum Sum requirements for CPF, increasing HDB prices & medical bills, university fees, etc. are basically to make sure that S’poreans savings are “trapped” or “locked” within the CPF systems. And the PAP govt has a free hand to “play” with this CPF monies as they wish.
Since the CPF monies belong to S’poreans, why is it that we do not have a say OR even have the slightest idea about the status of our CPF monies. The government secretive approach only confirms the worst fear … that is, the CPF could really be BANKRUPT already!!! All the CPF statements & promises of goodies/top-up payments are at most a FAKE!
If investors could be conned by Bernie Madoff for decades, S’poreans could possibly be “conned/misled” by the government that our CPF savings are there, when in fact it is an EMPTY SHELL.

“….If you consider the amount and the number of NSmen in Singapore, you’ll realise that that is an extraordinary effort to improve further the well-being of Singaporean NSmen….”
You sound like the idiot that worked out this scheme that $9K is fair compensation for our NSF. It seems “an extraordinary effort” because the rank pays have been so low all along. If $9K is sufficient compensation for doing NS/reservist, then give it to the foreigners – say as a tax rebate AFTER they completed 2.5 years army stink. Wah, $9,000 very big money, yes/no? The foreigners should then be flocking to the Mindef recruitment centers, right?

@Is CPF Bankrupt?,
Totally agree with you.
Yes TR please write up an article about CPF. Which is totally belongs to taxpayers’ hardearned monies. And Singaporeans should have the right to take it out as an when , especially now when so many singaporeans are jobless, they all need monies…So why locked up our CPF monies which actually belongs to our hard-earned monies in the first place?
If possible, can someone here or Kojabt again, go and email this to the ministerial offices or PM or whosever that Singaporeans want their CPF to be unlocked and released unconditionally, and not limit to any certain age. We singaporeans do not agree with this policy that govt has been set for so long, locking our CPF monies which we should have every right to take it as and when, cos it belongs to our own hardearned monies….

I believe many singaporeans are really concerned the topics of CPF. For long, this CPF queries and doubts have been in many of true blue singaporeans mind. Why is it Singaporeans cannot take out their own hard earned monies in cash in CPF when the tough time is right before their eyes?
I dont see any convincing reasons that our CPF monies should have set any age limit before they can release some part of monies and distribute it out only in very small sum, which is totally meaningless……

Come on folks, the $9000 was given by the government on their own accord but not demanded by the us. Hence we just take it for keep sake but we would not forgive him for allowing foreigners to become citizens without serving NS. Let it be known that we the people of Singapore did not serve National Service for the government’s sake but for the Singapore’s sake. We would not welcome people who come into Singapore without serving National Service, forever they would not become one of us. We would never truly accept these people. Tell it to PM Lee that he is dreaming if he thinks he can bribe us with our own money, he is truly insulting our intelligent.
By ignoring the people concern and displeasure, the present administration has already decided to forsake us. PAP is already preparing to trade our future in favor of the foreigners, there is no chance that they will change their mind therefore we have to decide whether we still want to be Singaporean or find ourself another country where they will accept us. By this “promise”, you only have TECHNICALLY numbers on a piece of paper called CPF statement, dio bo? You CANNOT withdraw the money or spend it as you wish, same as no get the money, dio bo?
EVEN IF you use it to buy HDB, also in NUMBERS nia, did you get the REAL CASH? In THEORY, Gahment gave you $1000 but actually HDB flat originally $100,000 but they raise to $110,000, still they make WITHOUT actually giving ANYTHING TO YOU, you understand or not?

This LHL arsehole did NS when I was also conscripted. Whenever he was around, we were told to cease all live firing and use blanks. Daddy LKY was so worried that his precious boy could get hurt. He had special food denied to us lesser mortals. He was promoted on a regular basis that they couldn’t keep track of his rank. He had such an easy time that he now thinks $9,000 is all that NS is worth. He has totally missed the point. It is not about money. It is about jobs, discriminatory policies against local Singaporeans, competing against foreigners for public housing. How can anyone be so dumb?

Singapore. Words worth their weight in gold.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am wrting below a comment I received to my blog from Anonymous, on Thursday, August 26, 2010, “Dissent is simmering under the brim in Singapore”.
These are words of wisdom which we should all keep in mind. These words succinctly describe present day Singapore under Lee Kuan Yew’s rule.
“A society that robs an individual of the product of his effort, or enslaves him, or attempts to limit the freedom of his mind, or compels him to act against his own rational judgment-a society that sets up a conflict between its edicts and the requirements of man’s nature-is not, strictly speaking, a society, but a mob held together by institutionalized gang-rule. Such a society destroys all the values of human coexistence, has no possible justification and represents not a source of benefits, but the deadliest threat to man’s survival. Life on a desert island is safer than and incomparably preferable to existence in Soviet Russia or Nazi Germany, (or present day North Korea).
If men are to live together in a peaceful, productive, rational society and deal with one another to mutual benefit, they must accept the basic social principle without which no moral or civilized society is possible: the principle of individual rights”

Obviously despite being a CITIZEN you remain emotionally attach to the ‘PR’ prefix that clearly reveal the ‘PRostitue’ stature of your citizenship to be less knowledgeable about the local situation.
If you have given as much of your life time as TRUE BLUE Singaporean Males – you would have appreciated that paying $9,000 for NS liabilities from age 18 to 45 or 50 {depending on rank} is truly peanuts.
Being a new Citizen, would you even know that the $9,000 is probably coming from monies already taken from the citizens and can only come from the National Reserves – since the budge is already in deficit for the period 2010-2011.
With NS started since 1967, and a standing military strength of 350,000 per year – there must be at least 1,000,000 Singaporean Male who have served NS liabilities.
With $9,000 per head that will amount to $9 BILLION to be paid – from the Reserves to our individual CPF ACCOUNT – then loan to the Government of the Pro Alien Party to build infrastructure with our money, and charge all Singaporeans for the use of the infrastructure.
Only a dumb new Citizen with a PRostitute Status will not object to money offers from the Pro Alien Party – that gives with one hand and take back with the other at the same time.
If you wish to show Singaporeans what gratitude truly means – show some gratitude for those who prefer to ignore your stupidity as a PRostitute Citizen.

I’m born and raised in Singapore. The proud blood of Afghan and Javanese is in me. But still I’m a proud Singaporean. Proud to serve my country in NS. ROD in 1992, under my belt is a “Nominated Outstanding Recruit” and a “Outstanding Award” from my serving unit. Did my reservist,IPPT, attended to many silent recalls and mobilized to many State functions, paid my bills and taxes. Never break any rules. Paid couple of my parking fines. Worked my ass off to catch up for the 2 year lost.Retrenched in 2001 because of cheaper FT. Found a new job finally and brought back home less than $900 after CPF. Award, Merits and honorably completing my NS duty did nothing to help my living standards at all. 9 years down the road,I can say I’m a poor patriotic,no saving, red blooded, discarded used and abused Singaporean. I fell very very sad of what the “elected” government is treating me and the rest of my serving brothers either they are from the Civil Defense, Police Force and Arm Forces. I will pay in my blood if the time come for my country but please! please! dear “elected leaders” in power, think much of us the small people for the likes of me and my fellow brother.

It is not the money or how much is it or where it is…
It is the folks we know directly and indirectly who made the ultimate real physical/emotional/mental sacrifices…the ones who lost their lives, the ones who got permanent internal injuries and the ones who got handicapped…and one i know personally during NS who lost his mind and ended up in woodbridge…also one who lost his left face/eye when his weopon exploded….and another one who got his hip crushed by an army rover…so many…
All of us did the 2 years and more plus 10 – 13 years ICT/SPF/CD…. be it in the SAF/SPF/Civil Defence….and ultimately deep in our hearts and souls we always tell ourselves we are doing it for our loved ones and to prove the rights that we have to live and breath as a singaporean….
Excuse me…are you “trying” to belittle the sacrifices made by NS men in the SPF, Civil Defence and SAF past, present and future?
Don’t you have a iota of respect for the dead? And who are your betters since they made the sacrifices and are unable to insult “living” ones like you anymore or seek justice or true compensation for their loved one who still “missed” them or are still hurting till now.
Sad.

NS seems like a touchy issue here.Seems like most of them are voices coming from male singaporeans…..
I did serve the nation…or rather wasted my time doing national slavery…but i enjoyed it.I had my qualms when it comes to NS but somehow was able to made my peace (i don’t like it but i went through it anyways and i sure as hell do not want my son doing the same…unless he is too wayward, then i’ll send him to military school, like they do in the States) since i did not go through as much hell as those guys in the army.
That being said,to have offered us what???? 9K in our cpf (bankrupt) account and at the same time raising the retirement age from 55 to 62 and soon no more retirement age….seriously, you think this can buy our votes????
cancer ass lee,you have GOT TO BE JOKING to think that we are DAFT & DAFT!!!!
how bout i offer you this instead,i get all the sgreans who have served to pay you and your ministries 9K from each of us,condition is we shove it up your cancer ass and you can only take it out when you finally reach the official retirement age?? how say you???
oh wait…there is going to be a law saying sgreans can never retire right????
How’s that for recognition of your “contribution”???

This PeeM surely is not “fit” to sit there any more ! I am now 50yrs,served and oso “cold storaged” already.
Proudly served and although somewhat “incovenient and sometimes felt my reservist call up affected my civilian career”…I never did onced complaint bitterly…cos..it was for Nation, Family and frens.
Today, I questioned my PeeM sincerity and I pity the younger gen of true Blues for being “marginalised” thru NS by F/ts presence and YET my still served.
I am sure “NO NS orNSR men” here ,demanded “Monetary” Compensation…it was as Clear as the sky ..that all of us are “sick” of your “unfair”treatment..especially impacting Jobs and Livlihoods.
I am utterly shock you can dare “offer $9K” as a solution…goes to show how much you care about your Citizens Pride…You Are Not Fit To Sit There Anymore !!!!

yes they should raise the income tax for non-citizens, just like what other countries is doing. esp those so called expats that has been taking an unreasonable high amount of pay and not doing much contribution at all. why are we serving NS to protect those stayed with us who never even contribute at all? 2nd class citizens should be welcome but tax more.

In the past parents were willing to sacrifice and their sons were prepared to sacrifice by serving two years in NS. Why? Because everyone had to do it and we were prepared to protect our beloved country. Now there is no longer a level playing field. PRs and foreigners are having a headstart while citizens are left behind. To top it all, foreigners are laughing at us and having free education at our expense. Indeed why should citizens sacrifice to protect our country which is no longer recognizable as our country because we see so many foreigners around. Most citizens are beginning to feel disconnected with our own country. How sad!

Damn, I will pay $9k for MIW people to do reservist for me.
Also, don’t bother asking about tax rebate, most Singaporean don’t even need to pay tax due to low income and those tax rebate aren’t going to help them.

Those who ORD already is $6000 maximum.
Those who have no reservist is $0 maximum.

I think the title of this article is misleading.
The fact is that not every NSman is getting $9000.
Those who ord before 29 Aug 2010 will only get $6000.
Those who completed 5 ICTs or 3 high keys before 29 Aug 2010 will only get $3000.
Get the facts right:

PR Citizen,
I figure you to be an OUTCAST even among your own kind. The Malaysian PRs I personally know do not come here to TR just to diss off all Singaporeans with such repetition till ad nauseum moreover in such an idiotic manner spewing senseless diatribe.
Just listen to yourself, are you really a born DIMWIT who’s fantasizing taking on the persona of an self-professed engineer professional? If so, you are doing a damn poor job of it! And by all accounts, you are a disgrace to your fellow countrymen; at least those of your kind working here know when they have latched onto a good thing, keeping their mouths SHUT and working HARD in the office, unlike you with too much free time here, leads me to conclude that you are one useless and overpaid fellow who’s better off staying in his own country, or anywhere else I don’t pretty much care.
Surely “talent” you are not! however many times you proclaim yourself to be. Do yourself and everyone here a favour and leave if you are so unhappy with your lot here.

Very disappointed to hear the news. The ex-NS men is useless now. After serving the nation for so long. Don’t get this reward? Why? We complete 2 yr 6 mths and more tough than the current NS man in term of training and many others…It should be fair to all NS man that complete the cycle. We also need to pay HDB… Everyone complete full NS cycle should get it.

Money come first. This method can definitely buy alot of vote. Because the money not come from their own pocket anyway. If this is not enough, increase more Town Council bill, misc education fee, parking, COE, insurance and all these cost will be footed against the people.
Considering most ppl are daft. This method can buy 90& of army vote.
A need of balance of power is a must and law of nature.

Mindef: “The NSRA is effective from 29 Aug 2010. National Servicemen who reach the milestones on or after this date will be eligible for the respective milestone awards. For example, full-time National Servicemen whose ORD is on or after 29 Aug 2010 will be eligible for the first milestone award. This includes those whose ORD was originally on or after 29 Aug 2010, but had been brought forward due to the fitness incentive of a two-month reduction in full-time NS duration.”
Hello! Does this mean that if we complete our milestones before 29 Aug, we get NOTHING???????

End of military conscription in Taiwan….
March 2009: Minister of National Defense, Chen Chao-ming, announced that Taiwan’s military will become an all-volunteer force within five years. Speaking to a military committee under the Legislative Yuan, Minster Chen explained that the process would commence on 2011 and by 2014 all divisions of the R.O.C. Armed Forces will be filled with career soldiers instead of conscripts. In the future, local men will only be required to serve four months of basic military training.

Singaporean serving as a full-time or operationally-ready National Serviceman, you will receive between $3,000 and $10,500 in recognition of your defence contribution.
ONLY applies to future enlistees and those still in service as of Aug 29, the day Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced the National Service Recognition Award (NSRA) to show that citizens come first.
I done my part. i am used and done with….and i am not rewarded.

Will this S$9000 shut our mouth from dissenting the NEW CITIZENS for non-NS enlistments ???
NOPE. NOT to me at least.
Even GICs & TLCs are smart not to employ non-NS liability people like PRs & New Citizens. What about True Blue Singaporeans ??
That’s what BREADTALKK does according to many reports around?
Does this 9K helps solve the LOST of our chances + time during our reservists ???
tsk tsk.
There’s no EQUALITY in Singapore as far as I’m concerned. Critics can call me whiners for all I care!

To all who are gonna missed out on the $9K NSRA in one way or another; remember all policies are not retroactive.
Hence, my allegiance to past achievements of the garhem is also not retroactivable. They have brought us to First World? So what, according to the explanation of A/P Koo Tsai Kee? Past achievements will NOT be considered in my next vote.

NEW LAW TO BE PASSED .. THE GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCED THIS MORNING THAT PARLIAMENT WILL SIT TO PASS A PROPOSED BILL ON NEW MEDIA INVOLVING PERSONS WHO INCITE SEDITION AND VIOLENCE. CITING THE CASE OF MR. K, WHO WAS CONVICTED OF INCITING HIS READERS TO BIRN A MINISTER ON THE FACE BOOK SITE, THE GOVERNMENT HAS DECIDED THAT SUCH REMARKS RILE THE PEOPLE’S FEELINGS AND WILL EVENTUALLY GET OUT OF CONTROL. IN ORDER TO PREVENT ANYMOER OVER-CONJECTED FEELINGS FLYING HIGH ABOUT HYPOTHETICAL AND SIMPLY FALSE ACCUSATIONS HURLED AT THE GOVERNMENT, A NEW LAW WILL ALLOW LESS BAD WILL TO SPREAD AND MORE ROSY NEWS TO FILL YOUR MINDS, AS MUSIC SOOTHES THE SAVAGE BEAST.. SO THERE, A NICE LITTLE ACT TO QUELL AN OTHERWISE EXPLOSIVE SITUATION.. SAME ACT WILL APPLY FOR ANY OTHER CRITICISMS LEVELLED AT THE GOVERNMENT.. HHEHEH, SO YOU WILL AL KNOW HOW TO GIVE INPUT THE NEXT TIME YA? (PRECEDING IS JUST A STORY.. LIKE A FAIRY TALE… SO DONT TAKE IT SERIOUSLY.. HAHHEHEH)

YOU UNGRATEFUL LOT!: September 1, 2010 at 11:57 am
wow pian. u write so much. u mean after the election, what can be done now will be made more difficult to prevent people from saying / telling what they truly feel.
do you mean that that the present situation allowed now is only temporary just to secure the votes on some “pretense” and to be changed later on. our country has moved to a level where it is better not to rely only on one fixed group of people no matter how good they have performed in the past.

Think those who have just ROD this yr 2010, govt. should be include them in the NSR otherwise be prepared to lose some votes.
Surely you don’t want to miss them out; some maybe thinking, Aiya, just miss it ! Like the baby bonus scheme- some young mothers missed out the scheme & said, Aiya, forget it, no more babies(after 1 babe)for me liao ! Do not blame people for complaining; put yourself in their position- don’t you feel something ??? Also, I think 10yrs is a bit long. $9k over 5yrs is a much better choice & like what some said, “Give out hard cash, no more into CPF…” Some may not use it for education, be flexible. Maybe for marriage preparation & produce more babies…hahaha. Isn’t that what you want too ????
Be flexible & win more souls.

Honestly, I don’t feel good of how people are feeling for this current govt., they really hv to wise up.
Imagine claiming people are living longer & so, withdrawal age for CPF is increased from 55yrs old previously to 63 or 65yrs old ? Then those who suddenly lose their jobs, there’s no scheme for temporary relief withdrawal of CPF to tie them over the difficult period though it is our very own $$$ ? Rigid scheme…
Ridiculous right ? We’ve no control over our own $$$ as if we’re 3yrs old kids & forever 3yrs old until you are 63 or 65yrs old (hahaha)? If you can live that long… In fact, lives maybe getting shorter with all the stresses & cancers….
[Also, how can a PR needn't serve army & become a citizen ? Aiyo, Ah Lee, what's happening ?]

No amount of money is enough for mothers who lost their sons during NS, children who missed their fathers during Reservist, wives who miss their husbands in exercises. The sacrifices all of us have gone through, some with our lives others with our time and energy. No amount of money can bring back the years that have passed. Though I cherished the times I had with my fellow servicemen, to repay us with this useless gesture is an insult to every soldier who have shed blood, sweat and tears. If anything, we should get free medical and our family subsidised medical care. That’s how you repay us, taking care of us when we have done our duty taking care of you and this land we call home. You bastards!
