PM’s National Day Rally was well rehearsed and well delivered

I thought the PM’s National Day Rally was well rehearsed and well delivered. He hears our complaints and grouses and is reacting on them. He shows that he is close to the ground, in touch with the people, by showing personal examples of people he had contact with. His government is working very hard to solve all these problems if we can be patient.

However, I think he is trying too hard to paint a rosy picture of Singapore and to reassure us that things will be hunky-dory. His plans appear to me to be desperate knee-jerk responses to try and rectify the wrongs that they have allowed to happen over the years. All these are due to lack of foresight and a failure to plan ahead.

They failed to foresee the problems that will happen when they allowed the massive numbers of foreigners to enter and work in Singapore within the last 4 years. They did not foresee that there will be a housing crunch when these foreigners arrive and compete for limited accommodation for the limited housing. They did not foresee that our transport system will not cope with the increase in population, the schools overwhelmed by foreigners, jobs given to “foreign talents”. The government is in the best position to plan in advance, moderate influx of foreigners, regulate property speculation, etc, because they have the statistics of population, job numbers, housing numbers, etc.

They have not been diligent enough to react fast enough, and only when problems become serious. We are supposed to have the best government because we paid highly for the best talent and yet we have an over-stretched infrastructure that cannot handle the masses of people. How did all these happen?

  • The Answer Is Easy:

” How did it all happen” asked Goh Phuay Yee.

    The answer is easy:

This PAP Govt is simply incompetent. High pay and no output. It is the the price we pay for voting in a highly incompetent govt.

Ooi woman, are u talking cock here? who created “these problems” in the first place?

alamak, dont be taken in by all the crap that is being portrayed by this lame duck. The problems are all created by a party voted in by sporeans, so we should all give ourselves a tight slap, and make sure we use our votes rightly the next time round. we DO NOT need to have such problems AT ALL. And now that these problems have appeared, dont give any sh*t about ‘patience’.

Either we are being played or ….they are not as good as talented as they claimed. Their successes in the past may be because our country & population is small, therefore can manage well. Once the boundary or population expanded e.g. if we the size of malaysia , perhaps things are more chaotic

Goh Puay Yee asking S’poreans to be patient with the government?

When many S’poreans are unemployed, have money problem & cannot pay their bills & instalments (like: town council fees, medical bills, HDB instalment, etc. etc.)… you think the government will be patient?

YES, the problem starts with us and NOT the PAP government. Yes, LHL is right to ask his supporters(voters) to have the patient and time for the incompetent government to response as the voters are the one who voted for PAP. Please do NOT blame PAP but those who voted for PAP.

  • cant blamed the voters
cause the voters will say that
the media is ranked 14Xth and is owned by the government

dont expect us to vote correctly where in the first place we are psychoed, hypnotized and indoctrinated by the information only coming out from the local media.

the local media do not question the flaw, the mistakes, the U-turn and the lies of the regime had made.
and most controversial documentaries are being BAN and prosecuted
eg like the jolly handman, Francis Seow

you know that the MDA banned a lot of documentaries that does not spell well with the PAP.

so with this how the people are given information to vote corectly

all they were given is PAP is good and divine

Failing to plan and planning to fail.

    What is the difference?

Planning like all things stem from the Unseen.

Many humans and their leaders will face obstacles and setbacks if they don’t respect the Unseen. Ponder.

    Goh Phuay Yee,

You discredit them too much. Anyone with half a brain can foresee the problems when you increase the population all of a sudden. It is just that these are problems faced by ordinary Singaporeans, not the elites. What they didn’t foresee is that their usual bullshitting did not work on us this time.

Not only they are damn hopeless and cruel.

    Sure or not?

If there was sufficient housing for the flood of cheap FWs, HDB prices would have remain stable. Cannot make money.

Since there was a shortage, HDB able to sell flats at astronomical prices.

Build flats at $50k and sell for $350K. Why not? So what if the lesser mortals complain. Can smile all the way to the bank.

Of course, as elections draws near, have to make the ordinary folks happy again.

But once status quo remains after elections, there will be housing shortage again as millions more cheap FWs are brought in.

Prices of HDB flats will skyrocket again.

Hopefully, Singaporeans are not so daft and will vote for change this time. Otherwise, even 2 room HDB flats will sell for $400K.

I think if we, lesser mortals, be patient and wait for pap to “correct” the current “mistakes”, we lesser mortals will in future find that we have to live with new problems that pap’s “solutions” create…

Frankly the “talented” pap has no long term solutions to our problems, they mainly do patch works and pass future problems resulting from their patch works to future generation to suffer the effects..

    - 2 is enough in the 70s, now we suffer..
    - mass import of foreigners, more tensions for this and future generations..
    - cpf minimum sum now, next generation will have huge problem meeting ever increasing min sum…
    - market rate for hdb resulting in high hdb prices, now impossible to reversal this situation..
    - pr as officers in saf (can they sign on as regulars)? if war breaks out, and the pr officers awol, what will the men they are supposed to lead think?

I cringed when I heard the gaping discrepancies in his speech and his unconvincing tone and body language. In the beginning, he congratulated us on the booming economy and promised better salaries and bonuses. Then few minutes later, he warned us to manage our wage expectations and said this kind of growth cannot continue forever. Isnt that a slap on our faces?

And then came the GDP growth. 2008 is 1%, 2009 is -1% and 2010 is projected to be 15%. So on average is 5%. Clap clap clap. Is he kidding himself or what? No other countries in the world, including China and India, can boast an annual growth of 15%?

15%? ya, maybe when more and more singaporeans go commit suicide after splurging their life savings in the casino. Even if this is true, this is all articifial growth by the money-sucking casino economy. First 26 million and another one with 100k. Thats how he propped up the economy. Build casinoes to pull in the money to fill in the big black holes left by dear Ms Ho.

We should pride ourselves on being a world-class casino economy.

i beg to disagreed with you, all this is well plan and executed. foreign workers is introduce to displace singaporean so that they will be in power for the future GEs.

clearly for the last years hdb build so little hdb is to push up the hdb price so that this can be filled back to the black hole created by TH.

more people traveling on public transport means more profit for them. i still wonder why PTC and LTA claim that PTO will lose $800m or $8000m yearly.

clearly this is another plan way ahead, the number of people taking public transport have increase and bus and mrt did not incur any high cost implementation to cater for the increase in commutership, so there should be profit not lost.

the delay in reaction is to annoy true blue singaporean to leave singapore so that they will not be voted out. the NDR is just for ’show’, it never really addresses any issues currently faced by singaporean.

The government has ignored the ground and singaporeans for too long. now its too late and LHL still ask for patience. Why did they discover the problems of their bad policies only now? isn’t there a self-appointed full-time $3m a year supreme forecaster? obviously, the forecaster has failed miserably in foreseeing the overly exams-based education systems, the inadequate infrastructures, the lack of housing, cost of living, their bad policies has …
if only they are not so blinded by money and start listening to the people they are suppose to serve.
if the MPs is doing their job, they need to answer to the voters and ask for accountability for all the incompetence shown by this gov over the last 10 yrs.

PAP says bring in foreigner will help to boost the competitiveness of our country. However this is only true to all sectors of the company except POLITICAL SYSTEM. LHL quote foreign architects, doctors that bring better value to our society.
I would like to ask LHL to open up the political systems and allow fairer voting or even invite foreigners to stand for election too so that foreigners can be MPs and Minister .
    Isn’t this fairer?

I agree with SG ghost. I do not think that all the problems are not foreseen and they were “caught”. More likely it was all well planned.

The planning must have forecasted the bundle the leempire would make, the degree of fallout, and the goodwill it would generate from subsequently solving so many problems for the people. As far as suffering by the sheeps, who cares when it has no impact to their solid as rock stable position.

We need foreign talent : what kind? Do we need more doctors? lawyers? R&D Engineers? Bioscience researchers? Do we need more bus drivers? Clerks and coffee shop aunties?
What is happening : generaLEE speaking – we need to hire 100,000 more FT – give or take 20,000 say, please go get them : Financial Experts, R&D Experts whatever ….but, sorry, these people not easy to attract to Little Red Dot – too small. But need to fulfill quota, so how? Never mind liao – any pimp, prostitute, pig, dog, cat – so long MON can hand up homework – numbers fulfilled…..Mission Accomplished. For the rest – You DIE, Your Problem!!!

Do you think the results will be different if instead of 100,000 FT, he asked for (1)Financial Experts (2) R&D Personnel (3)Research Fellows etc : Clerks, Security Guards,Bell-Hops, Coffee Aunties/Uncles don’t count?

Or can we not have a point system to see which priority we need to bring in. Rather not to take any than to take in Trash!!!!

My question is who are the people? Their own people? RC? CCC? grassroot? All these people are also out of touch with the “REAL” people on the ground. And even they approach the people on the ground, do you think the people dare to voice out their grievences freely. As you can see on the TV, whenever they interview people, people always say the good things. Even they say the bad things, did the TV dare to broadcast it??? If TV dares not do so, how the hell our PM and other ministers get in “touch” with the people from the TV????? The TV plays a important role, yet they did not do it.
