Kenneth Jeyaretnam asks netizens to come forward and fight for democracy
The Secretary-General of the Reform Party Mr Kenneth Jeyaretnam has issued a call for netizens to step forward and fight for democracy by providing ground support to his party.
Set up in 2008, the Reform Party has won many fans among young IT-savvy Singaporeans with a forward-looking leadership and feasible proposals to remake Singapore.
Besides Kenneth who is a graduate from the prestigious Cambridge University, it has a number of former government scholars in its ranks as well including Mr Tony Tan and Ms Hazel Poa.
In a comment posted on Facebook, Kenneth asked netizens what they want ultimately:
“There are many questions that a Singapore citizen needs to think about. What do you want ultimately? Do you want to be able to voice your concerns online (blog, facebook, etc) or ultimately do you want Democracy?”
Kenneth opined that voicing concerns online will only perpetuate the present status quo and netizens need to come forward and help out if the Reform Party were to stand any chance of snatching a GRC from the PAP in the coming general election:
“Because one can have the former but it will still be one party system. Those who came to our recent volunteer meet up saw the maps for the constituencies and how much ground the RP will need to cover block by block. Do you know the size of a GRC? If you want to see the first GRC snatched from the PAP and if you want RP candidates in parliament then RP need a lot of ground support from you!”
According to RP volunteer Irene Ho, the party requires ground support for the following:
“There are other areas that you can help too. For example during the 9 days of campaign, we need many volunteers too. This period is the most crucial period. Even if the Reform Party did their homework by doing walkabouts etc now, this 9 days of campaign is aka to the “exam period”.
If the Reform Party didn’t do well during this period, all the hardwork done previously would have been wasted. I understand that we need volunteers who are able to devote a block of time in the 9 days of the rallies during election. (not sure whether can help just a few days out of the 9 days. General help is needed to help deliver pamphlets and with fundraising now and logistics during the actual election. E.g. You can help us run the store selling t-shirts etc in the evening.
One GRC needs 2,500 to 3,000 posters. Once election is announced we only have 24 hrs to put them up. (One of the options you can help) We will need volunteers for sports stadium bookings, crowd control, sound system set up and so on. Walkabout teams, Mobile lorry team , food and logistics supplier team. Translators needed in the media team for research and speech writing. We also need more Polling agents. 10 -15 per station and Counting agents.”
If you are keen to volunteer for the Reform Party, please email James Teo at [email protected] or Jeisilan at [email protected] to enquire or contact its Facebook administrator here.
The coming general election may be the last window of opportunity for native Singaporeans to reclaim ownership of their beloved country after which they will surely be overwhelmed by the hordes of immigrants the PAP regime is bringing in to shore up its flagging support base. It’s NOW or NEVER.

I respect Kenneth’s father Jeyaratnam very much and I have nothing against Kenneth personally. But Kenneth has yet proven to be a real politician. Unlike Dr Chee who has suffered so much for his political conviction. Dr Chee could have conveniently emigrated but he still stays in Singapore and fight against the evil familee.
Besides Kenneth’s brother Phillip looks like a pro-PAP guy. So I worry that if he is voted, he may be just like the other two oppositions who happily collecting their $13k MP allowance every month without really fighting for the Singaporeans.

This is the first time I have seen opposition putting effort in rally people, doing intensive preparation work, and trying their best to prepare for the GE. They are beginning to show that they are not gonna be sitting ducks.
Rome was not built in one day. Whoever wants to be a serious contender to the incumbent must work hard and win the hearts of the people. If people vote against the PAP for the sake of voting against the PAP and not because they support the opposition genuinely, then I think Singapore is doomed.
On the other hand, if the opposition does not work hard to win over the people and expect the people to just vote for them because they are unhappy with the ruling party, then I think they should not deserve any votes.
This is the beginning. I urge Singaporeans to unite and build a New Singapore for Singaporeans. Nothing can be achieved without strength and unity.

The mad megalomaniac Hitler was in power and still got his way cos the people were stupid, unthinking lah.
The same is the case of Singapore. Label the incumbents whichever one may want to, makes no difference – they are they cos of unthinking, stupid masses. They will be around as long as the one-party system stays and all policies, regualtions …add on is decided only by one single person and the rest sing to the chorus.
Now it is the one-party system that is ”bleeding” the citizens every way and any way – one-system lah, who is going to question, who is going to account …. buang current lah (Malay for wasting energy lah).
It is going to remain the same and probably get worse if Singaporeans do not unlearn the damage of their unwise votes and blind support to a one-party system that inherenly flawed and susceptible to venality, untransparency, unaccountablity …. With a two-party/multi party system even if it does not get better it wont be so bad as it is now. At least, here it is a possiblilty of equitable policies, equitable costs and …
As for these foreigners, too bad, enthralled by the icing on the cake they got sucked in. Inexorably, the icing melts away lah. Of course, some are aware but being economic migrants they would go back. I do not blame them but rather the incumbents for this policy.

Why bring CSJ and Phillip into this? This is not about CSJ or Phillip. If you respect JBJ (bless his soul – at least he got 1 son who is solid in my opinion, better than LEE-other son), how about voting for him? You can also vote for CSJ if you like but Don’t compare or instigate a CSJ & KJ fight please. Pro-Singaporean Alternate Parties fight PAPA-YAYA party, not each other…..

People who thinks that ‘PAP sure lose’ this coming election, needs to think again. Citizens are being oppressed and suppressed. People are scared. They complain a lot, more often than not, going around telling others that they will vote for the opposition. BUT, come election day, when it is finally time to vote, just all of a sudden these Singaporeans (who have complained for 4 years) begin to suffer from amnesia and turn senile. And very sadly, their vote goes to the PAP. What’s worse is that after the GE, the very same people who voted for the PAP start to complain all over again.
Singaporeans are daft. Try and prove me wrong this coming election.

@The Patriot: – “But Kenneth has yet proven to be a real politician”
How about SO MANY PAP MPs who entered Parliament through the back door? Did they prove that they’re real politicians before becoming MPs?
And why do you have to worry or question if opposition candidates will “happily collect their $13k MP allowance every month without really fighting for the Singaporeans”?
Aren’t so many PAP MPs already doing that every month for so many yrs?
Instead of paying those useless WHITE bums so much money, I would rather the money be use to try out the oppositions.

Nothing spectaluar and KJ and his gang are just a bunch of so called Elites which are exactly like the PAP and Modern Singapore and majority of the Ordinary Singaporeans don’t need Elites (we have had enough of Elites, so what being a Cambridge when they are actually “spent forces” and dead wood).
KJ just inherited the party from his late dad JBJ and lines are very clear that at the end of the day, it is an Indian majority based party and the so called local born are just for show or “wayang”, like the PAP where the majority Ministers Indians, besides President being Indian. What our Modern Singapore needs are Ordinary Singaporeans and let us as Ordinary Singaporeans say No to another Elite party (we don’t need Elites as we have seen more than enough of them and our Modern Singapore was built by Ordinary Singaporeans)

I only have one wish for the next election..that I get to vote. Everytime someone compliment or criticise the goverment, I have to remind them that I have no role in electing this goverment. I am 57 years old and the last time I voted…well, to tell u the truth, I can’t remember..:( Ever since the introduction of GRCs, many Singapoeans like me were deprieved of our constitutional right to vote. I am not a graduate or a scholar hence, I can’t understand why we need to have GRCs. Were the minority interest not looked after when we had single ward constitueny..? There are many countries in the world that is like us ie multi-racial citizens…and yet they have not adopted our GRC mentality and continued successfully with the single ward constituency system. I have seen young Singaporean who are now in their 30s and have never voted their entire live..sigh..I hope that for the next election, all our Ministers will stand in single ward constituency to show the younger MPs why they deserve the salary that they are getting. But then again, I think I am being wishful…I should just hope that I can get to vote..!

LKY voting for party is an ancient concept of governance. It is obsolete and not working in today’s information age. All our children are smart enough to make choices and take responsibility for the risk they take.
People want to vote for any policies changes and not vote for one party and wait for another 4 years to change. The world is dynamic and please surrender the last iron bowl in the world. YOG kind of events will destroy Singapore in few years time and the government will become bankrupt faster and all Singaporean will in debt for no reason the the American.
voting for any party or any candidates is OBSOLETE.

I am no politician. As far as politics is concerned I am near zero level compared to any politician on planet earth. Hypothetically, if I were a politician I would field all my very best candidates to contest in the following GRCs:-
1) Tanjong Pagar GRC – Lee Kuan Yew
2) Ang Mo Kio – Lee Hsien Loong
3) Aljunied – George Yeo
3) Bishan/Toa Payoh – Wong Kan Seng
4) Tampines – Mah Bow Tan
5) Holland/Bukit Timah – Lim Swee Say & Vivian Balakrishnan
My reason is that I will have at least 70% chance of winning because native Singaporeans dislike intensely and despise greatly the incumbents in the above GRCs. Undoubtly these incumbents are the most unethical mortals of the highest degree.

Patroit: If someone said Kenneth is eyeing the $13k MP allowance, i think the guy has no brains. He could have stayed in the UK and made more, does not need to come back. He is a fund manager, he does not need to go after the meagre sum. This is unlike the millions every minister commands and every GLC CEO be paid.
His brother Philip has succumbed to political pressure by kowtowing in order to excel in his career, nothing wrong with that. You cannot the whole family to be martyrs and sacrifice.
In following his father’s legacy to fight for justice and democracy, Kenneth has decided to contest. We need 1 or 2 GRC to go down, best if AMK falls, then PM will have to resign and make way for new leadership.

Can all the cells in every police station and ISD building accomodate every citizen, who lend their support to RP ?
Why will the Police and the ISD want to lock anyone up – especially when no law is broken ?
At best, it will be for some enquiry – which any Citizen can decline to have the conversation with them, as no citizen is obligated to meet with the Police or the ISD unless there is official reasons expressed in an official document.
If 1,000, or 2,000, or 5,000, or 10,000, or 50,000 or MORE citizens were to support any one of the Alternative Political Parties – WHAT POSSIBLY CAN THE PRO ALIEN PARTY do to all these Singaporeans supporting KJ ?
When more Singaporeans volunteer their support, the huge numbers will make ti almost impossible for the Police and the ISD to mess up anyone.
UNITY IS STRENGTH.

So relieved to see so many strong oppositions this time round. Now, PAPayas can’t deal with just one particular opp group or party like they used to, liao!
Remember in 1997, WP’s strong team comprising JBJ and Tang LH was dealt with jialat, jialat bcoz they were the only one heavyweight that threatens the PAPayas.
If JBJ & TLH had won then, maybe s’pore won’t be in such a pathetic state now. But what to do. Pee And Poo damn ‘chow’ one. Played smelly always. Don’t know what they did to the re-count in CS GRC but many knew that by hook or by cook they would never allow that WP team to win or it’ll be their downfall!
This time got so many good oppositions. Let’s see who or which group they’re going to target. Deal with Chiam still got KJ. Deal with KJ still got Sylvia. Wahahahaha! I can’t wait to see an exciting battle that awaits the PAPayas!!!!!!!
BANG! BANG! BANG! Crush all the PAPayas!!!!!

Firstly, stop calling yourself an Ordinary Singaporean. There is no such Ordinary Singaporean. Singaporeans are all unique in our own ways.
Secondly, how do you define ‘elites’? Elites are a group or class of persons or a member of such a group or class, enjoying superior intellectual, social, or economic status.
Ngiam Tong Dow said this of Singapore elites: “I divide elites into three categories. First, the political and administrative elites. Second, the professional and business elites. Last but not least, the social and community elites.”
But is elitism such a bad thing? We have ‘football elites’and ‘golf elites’ and we have ‘medical’ and ‘legal’ elites. These are people that have reached the pinnacle of their career and achievements and beyond.
You are getting your definitions crossed. What your are referring to in the context of your comments are the PAP snobs. There is nothing derogatory or sinister to be elite. Sorry, but we do need elites – but not snobs.
KJ has gone to Cambridge and excelled. Is this a bad thing? I do not know KJ so I cannot say if he is or he is not a snob. I do not know if you can even call KJ an elite.
I also failed to connect your ‘spent forces’ and ‘dead wood’ conjectures with KJ being from Cambridge. This is mumbo-jumbo and gibberish. You care to explain?
Singaporeans by and large are not racists. Again, you mumbo-jumbo the ‘Indian majority based party’ line. What are you trying to say? Ditto to your ‘Elite party’ line. It appears that you dislike Indians.
Do you really believe that “our Modern Singapore was built by Ordinary Singaporeans” ? If so then you must be terribly naïve and going around with blinkers. Modern Singapore has been built by the very best technocrats with talents and brains galore – nothing less than by elites who are also not sobs e.g. Dr. Goh Keng Swee, Mr. Hon Sui Sen, Mr. EW Barker, Mr. S Rajaratnam, Mr. Ong Teng Cheong, etc.
Andrew Chuah, please do not come to this forum with rubbish. Abe Lincoln once said this: “It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt.”

Yes – That was in 1997, I still remember clearly that WP rally held at YCK stadium the day before election when Tang Liang Hong and JB Jeyaratnam were calling Singaporeans to vote not for them but for our children… I was so touched listening to their speech… but most people of Cheng San GRC fell for the HDB upgrading carrot and voted for PAP… I was unable to sleep that night after the result was announced, I was totally disgusted. I suffered a depression when I read how PAP subsequently destroyed Tang LH, a fellow Singaporean and even made his poor wife appeared in court on Tang’s behalf… I told myself – I will never forgive LKY and his dogs for what they did to Tang Liang Hong and JB Jeyaratnam!

In the PAP, they have to (ask/beg/entice with $$$/give scholarships to) people to come forward and serve in their party. In this case, we see a man willingly come forward to serve, all the while knowing the consequences his father had faced. This is the kind of man the PAP want to have, but cannot seem to find.
Lets give him a hand. we can effect change little by little.

["There is an ancient Chinese parable about an old man who knew he would die soon.
He wanted to know what Heaven and hell were like.
He visited a wise man in his village to ask "Can you tell me what Heaven and hell are like?"
The wise man led him down a strange path, deep into the countryside.
Finally they came upon a large house with many rooms and went inside.
Inside they found lots of people and many enormous tables with an incredible array of food.
Then the old man noticed a strange thing, the people,
all thin and hungry were holding chopsticks 12 feet long.
They tried to feed themselves, but of course could not get the food to their mouths with such long chopsticks.
The old man then said to the wise man "Now I know what hell looks like,
will you please show me what Heaven looks like?"
The wise man led him down the same path a little further until they came upon another large house similar to the first. They went inside and saw many people well fed and happy, they too had chopsticks 12 feet long.
This puzzled the old man and he asked, "I see all of these people have 12 feet chopsticks too,
yet they are well fed and happy, please explain this to me.
The wise man replied, "in Heaven we feed each other"]

It seems that SDP’s supporters are extremely jealous of other opposition political parties, they are not only anti-PAP, they are also anti other political parties.
They are diluting goodwill with other citizens who have preference for other political parties. They are also jealous of Kenneath over his popularity. This is very unhealthy as it will diminished the strength of the opposition movement which has just began to gather pace.
If SDP’s supporters continue to discredit other oppositions to advance their party at this critical stage only one thing will happen – They will kill SDP by their own doing.
Lets hope SDP’s supporters just concentrate on a common enemy and that is PAP and stop badmouthing other political parties.
Hopefully SDP could win some seats in parliament too even though they are not really that charming. At the moment it is prudent to just concentrate on one common enemy.

I am not sure if “PAP Sure Lose” will be the case in this elections. MeLookItLikeThis : PAP will be steady in power for some time yet, but never the mind : this time, my vote will be for “CHANGE”. Even if small change is effected, it will be something. If this time cannot, the next time, will continue to vote for “CHANGE” unless things improve….it is for my children and their children that I am thinking about – PAP cannot carry on like this lah….

Hi K.J,
I had enough of PAP and would like to see some1 who are truely wanting to help all Singaporean to come in power.
I am wondering which Opposition Party should I support. Are you able to advise me what are you ideals and plans for Singapore, how are you goin to help Singaporean (esp the needy).. I am willing to throw in all my availiable time apart from working to give any opposition party that can gives me full assurance at least for the following 2 ponits that
1) they will potect all True Blue Singaporean at all times
2) To provide full assistance to help all Singaporean that are in distress and in need. Not simply brushing their responsibility off just by signing on a letter to call it work done.

All this talking cock about ‘opposition should field their best candidates in XYZ constituencies…’…..
Sure, field your better candidates against the PAP heavies but its better to also field every other constituency. Leave no constituency uncontested and make sure you have people hanging outside the vote counting centres to make sure no hanky panky goes on inside.
Remember the people who count the votes aren’t exactly ‘independent’ — just remember what happened to Cheng San in 1997:

JBJ is respected for what he tried to change. LKY is respected for what singapore is today. However everyone made mistakes in life. LKY by now understand what has happened opening the floddgates, giving PR status so easily and allowing FT AND FW into the country No country in the world does that. They Should be given a 2nd chance to correct this mistake. I am sure they do a better job.
Anyway PAP MINISTERS note countries like denmark, norway, austria, new zealand do not have large population about the same as signapore and still tick tock well. Why can’t singapore be like them ,instead of having too many FT and FW. WHY VWHY

@What abt PAP MPs?:
September 3, 2010 at 6:22 pm
@The Patriot: – “But Kenneth has yet proven to be a real politician”
How about SO MANY PAP MPs who entered Parliament through the back door? Did they prove that they’re real politicians before becoming MPs?
And why do you have to worry or question if opposition candidates will “happily collect their $13k MP allowance every month without really fighting for the Singaporeans”?
Aren’t so many PAP MPs already doing that every month for so many yrs?
Instead of paying those useless WHITE bums so much money, I would rather the money be use to try out the oppositions.
——————————————————–
Well said!!!.
I just can’t understand why some stupid Singaporeans keep repeating that the Opposition candidates are untested…
Do these clowns actually realise that for years, many UNTESTED and UNPROVEN PAP candidates are sent into Parliament at every election thru the ‘backdoor’ of the GRC?

Nothing spectaluar and KJ and his gang are just a bunch of so called Elites which are exactly like the PAP and Modern Singapore and majority of the Ordinary Singaporeans don’t need Elites (we have had enough of Elites, so what being a Cambridge when they are actually “spent forces” and dead wood).
KJ just inherited the party from his late dad JBJ and lines are very clear that at the end of the day, it is an Indian majority based party and the so called local born are just for show or “wayang”, like the PAP where the majority Ministers Indians, besides President being Indian. What our Modern Singapore needs are Ordinary Singaporeans and let us as Ordinary Singaporeans say No to another Elite party (we don’t need Elites as we have seen more than enough of them and our Modern Singapore was built by Ordinary Singaporeans)

local born?? So no other local born races in sg issit? Really??

A). A COLLECTION OF SUPPORTERS!
Thank you very much cowturd: September 4, 2010 at 12:37 am. And i hope your following opinion will be heard and will prick Andrew Chuah the PAP sucker’s conscience.
“In the PAP, they have to (ask/beg/entice with $$$/give scholarships to) people to come forward and serve in their party. In this case, we see a man willingly come forward to serve, all the while knowing the consequences his father had faced. This is the kind of man the PAP want to have, but cannot seem to find.
Lets give him a hand. we can effect change little by little”.

Intellectual? Does the Mentor Minister knows it’s meaning when he does not even know how to live like a human being?
Did he ever had a day of free living, going anywhere doing anything he likes with no worry?
Was he ever not conscious of who he was/is or thinking how great he must has been and being?
Does he knows he is trapped within his own ego?
Or does he define his ego as his intellect?

And so for you “standard”, lky was “experienced” and so was Dr. Goh Keng Swee, etc 1st generation leaders? You went to school and DID well. Then to work and school DID well too! And so you mean that you DID WELL on BOTH Counts BECAUSE you went into BOTH “experienced”???
And thus you also meant that “experience” is then a “prerequisite” to doing well??? SO…. please tell us how DID lky and those 1st generation of leaders built the foundations for Singapore’s growth in “MATERIAL” improvements? But then isn’t the non-material aspects or “software” for you newage techos lacking seriously for growth into a respectable person FREE to add to our society in a civilize way WITHOU any lky ways of curtailments???
Thus, by your reasoning, shouldn’t the human race have remained in the Stone Age? And still doing wild animal hunting to survive??? How come the human race has “DEVELOPED” to afford you to write your stuff here in THE Internet IF “experinced” is such a “neccessary” ingredient for development??? Thus, how did you ever gow up to this stage untill you can offer us you opinion as you did??? And did you read that “Under The Willow Tree”article I gave. Reflect deeply and understand with insights into THE Verys Pros AND Cons of LKY’s – First, his political purpose, Second, the “viablility” of his latest idea and realitiy or fallacy of his “Ïnterlectual Class” ideology??? I wonder if you and your like-minded have the mental withall to figure such things out in-depth???
Am not picking you out specifically. But your simplistic general statement of choice without defining IS EXACTLY of the LKy and PAP type!!! And a couple of moot points in question then for your heads to scratch and eyeballs to roll:
1. “Can freedom of choice be a burden”? Please go and be further educated in http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p009hr24
2. Useful Idiots? And is LKY one? Now then… I hope you know of DICTATORS like Chairman Mao Zedong of China, Ferdinand Marcos of Phillipines, Zimbawe’s Robert Megabe, Myanmar’s murdererous General, Deng Xiaopeng of China who ordered his miltary to open fire at defenceless student in Tiananmen Square in 1987. And of LKY who was asked what he would have done ONLY as late as 2004 replied to a reporter that:
“If I have to shoot 200,000 students so be it for China’s good in the next 100 years”!
Do you “standard” and other like-minded ones want to depend on such a “ruthless” IDEALISTIC man in ideology void of humililty and wisdom to communicate effective with young students to calm nerves, defuse anger and violence so that HE HIMSELF – DOES NOT HAVE TO ORDER VIOLENCE TO STOP VOILENCE??? DO YOU SERIOUSLY WANT TO HAVE SUCH A PERSON IN CHARGE OF YOU AND YOUR DESCENDENTS’ FUTURE. As for sure, he has INFUSED in his PAP party members this need for such arcadian actions as WHY THEN IS THERE A “MANDATORY Death Penalty” and also Singapore’s President WITHOUT discretionary power FOR Any Genuine CLEMENCY pleas? Because the president MUST WITHOUT doubt act according to The WILL of a Minister or the Cabinet. And this means THAT this president is NOTHING, BUT a mere puppet of the The Parliament – which is also “elected” by unfair means via a GRC system too!!!
SO NOW: How were so many intelligent people duped by dictators? Please GO TO LEARN MORE at http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/documentaries/2010/07/100624_doc_useful_idiots_lenin.shtml

Judging from the looks of the candidates, I can safely say RP have no chance in winning. None of them is charismatic..
So if you put 2 non-charismatic teams (pap vs rp) for election, people will still choose the PAP.

You will see that all our charismatic opposition leaders have been “finished off” by the PAP.
Perhaps the best known charismatic leader in Singapore is LKY. Anyway he has lost that charisma. Lim Chin Siong and Francis Seow had it. So does Dr. Chee Soon Juan. Unfortunately in the case of CSJ, three factors conspired to drag him down – LKY and the PAP leaders with their suits, the PAP government media and perhaps some of CSJ’s foolish antics.
What CSJ has done far pales in comparison to what harm and damage the PAP Government done to the good people of this country. Their compliant media has been good to them and dressed much of the damages.
The our best hope is for CSJ to clear his bankruptcy and bring on an united opposition to take on the PAP.
