Reform Party walkabout at Jurong West: More Singaporeans stepping forward to volunteer
More and more Singaporeans are stepping forward to volunteer for the Reform Party as evidenced by its latest walkabout at Jurong West today.
According to RP activist Ms Irene Ho, the Reform Party has received more than usual email queries about volunteering for the party. She also noticed there were more people looking at them during the walkabout this morning.
For the third time in a week, RP leaders and activists conducted a walkabout this time along Jurong West Street 91 where they met up front with residents to learn more about their concerns.
Irene felt particularly encouraged by a new volunteer who said he is coming forward to help out because of an urgent need to make a stand now.
He was surprised at the number of volunteers who turned up in the walkabout to which Irene replied:
“The Reform Party has been (for many months already) diligently doing walkabouts for at least twice a week, each week. However, not many of our members are available on every single Wednesday or Sunday to help us. Therefore, (for example say we have) 120 members won’t translate to 120 volunteers. If we need 120 volunteers for our election, we will need at least 800 or even thousands of members. But of course, you don’t need to be member to help us. You can just be a volunteer.”
During the walkabout, there are strangers who went up to them requesting for information or to show their support by buying the RP newsletter.
[Read Irene's account of the walkabout here.]
As we can see for ourselves, RP has been working hard on the ground even before the date of the next election is announced, but its grassroots activities as well as that of other opposition parties are almost never reported by the mainstream media which gives the erroneous public impression that the opposition only makes an appearance “once in five years.”
Being a relatively new party founded only in 2008 by the late respected opposition leader J.B. Jeyaretnam, the Reform Party needs a lot of ground support from Singaporeans in its quest to provide us with an alternative voice in Parliament as well as an alternative vision for our future.
If you are keen to meet the Reform Party or to help out at its events, please email James Teo at [email protected] or Jeisilan at [email protected] to enquire.

It was said Singapore does not have a national identity. The FAP was scratching their heads on how to create this elusive identity and they epic failed. However, it is heartening that the recent years had opened the eyes of many Singaporeans to the true nature of the FAP and their policies. It is this awareness that will be the catalyst for the development of a new Singaporean identity. Ironically, it was the FAP that helped create this new development.
RP. Good luck in the coming GE. Many may not be able to vote but I am sure those who have the honor to do it will vote wisely. We will fear no evil!!!

The Alternative Political Parties should hold a meeting before end September 2010 and make a clear agreement on the following issues:
- to agree to avoid three cornered competition in one constituency;
- a common election fund should be built, and allocated for each nominee from the Alternative Political Party to contest in every constituency;
- to field as many candidates as possible so that every constituency will be contested and allow Singaporeans to exercise their right to vote and register their feelings;
- to agree on a common election strategy to win the election at every constituency and form a coalition government;
- to agree on a list of national issues to be raised, so that the issues will be brought to the attention of Singaporeans by every candidate from the Alternative Political Parties;
- to agree on the sharing of resources to make researches and prepare election themes and speeches.
Without a common goal amongst all the Alternative Political Parties, it will merely waste resources and efforts; as it is common knowledge that UNITY IS STRENGTH

I stayed in my inlaw’s house for a few months before. Jurong residents are badly disturbed by the huge no of foreigner workers’ presence in their neighbourhood. I’m sure many of them will be willing to give opposition party a chance.

I am glad to see RP having such a big impact amongst Singaporeans.
Singaporeans are fully aware that this coming elections is the last chance they have to take back this country.
If the status quo remains, then Singaporeans have only themselves to blame for being treated as 3rd class citizens.

I really hope to see RP and other alternative parties compete in more GRCs..
namely AMK GRC, T.Pagar GRC, Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC, Tampines GRC.
Please point it out to those gullible, blind and naive singaporeans that they deserved the shit treatment they get from the PAP whom they voted for during the past elections.
Cheers to all the alternative parties.

To those who still feel that they will spoil their votes rather than to make a statement because they feel the oppositions have not tested…. PLEASE WAKE UP! There is no free ride! No miracles will happen if you spoil your votes nor will it affect the PAPayas. But it will affect the future of your own fate as well as your children and grandchildren. IF YOU ARE A TRUE BLUE SINGAPOREAN, PLEASE MAKE EVERY VOTE COUNTS!

the team running the country is not managing the situation well. they are merely fire fighting. if they have worked hard, they will not let the supply of hdb flats to be depleted,fix the mrt transport problem much earleir, and plan for the senior workers to get better jobs and the aged need not seek shelter in overseas old folks homes. these are our basic needs and yet Mr Goh said we are complaining too much. the ministers overseas are not paid too much either and they are just as effective if not better.
