SMS-alerts on election-related news and TR’s plans for the coming election

The Election Departments will be offering SMS-alerts on election-related news including changes to the electoral boundaries and alerts after Nomination Day.

Singaporeans can subscribe to the service on the ecitizen website here.

To learn how to sign up for the SMS-alerts, you can read the short PDF guide here.

The Temasek Review will be providing daily election news, interviews and political commentaries in the days leading to the next general election and instant updates on the latest happenings during the campaign period and on election day itself.

Despite our limited resources, we have proven ourselves to be more than capable of countering the relentless propaganda from the mainstream media during our coverage of the recent Youth Olympic Games with more than 50 articles on the event itself, a feat not achieved even by the Straits Times.

With our soaring readership which has already exceeded TODAY Online and is given a further boost by Google News aggregating our articles on a daily basis, we are quietly confident of countering the mainstream media’s monopoly on the election news as in previous years.

Though our readership is still below the likes of Straits Times and Channel News Asia, we have a few advantages over them:

1. We are able to get our news out faster than any media agency or blog in Singapore and nobody can beat us to that.

2. We can generate a relentless barrage of publicity for a political party which the mainstream media is unable to do so. For example, if you have noticed, we have been publishing daily articles about the Reform Party which has led to an increased number of volunteers helping out at its walkabouts. For propaganda to be effective, it must be constant, consistent and compelling.

3. We are able to obtain scoops and insider information which nobody in Singapore is able to because of our connections and large readership.

We need our readers to be our citizen journalists on the ground when the day comes. If you come across any news-worthy stuff, please post it directly on our Facebook here. You can also upload photos directly on our Facebook page here and we will get an article out within half an hour.

Alternative political parties in Singapore are most welcome to make use of our site and Facebook to get their news out without going through the biased Singapore media which will surely twist, distort and misquote every single word of yours in order to discredit you and make you look like a bunch of idiots.

Here at TR, we promise you that your message will be sent to a largest number of voters within the shortest period of time completely uncensored, unfiltered and unedited (However, this means that you will have to be responsible for your own spelling and grammatical mistakes.)

In addition, we will be providing instantaneous updates via our Twitter service here. Please sign up for it if you haven’t done so.

For readers who are concerned with privacy and security especially with the uncertainties posed by the ruling party and various agencies, do consider signing up for our Secured TemasekVPN, which is specially throttled for access to our site. We may also launch a separate site in due course in case this one crashes under overwhelming traffic.

In 2006, we do not have an alternative news site with a readership to rival that of the mainstream media. Today, we have one. To enable us to be more effective, influential please help us share our site with everybody you know to increase our readership base before the election.

This is a battle between David and Goliath. The Facebook generation has an once in a lifetime opportunity to create history. Please join us in our quest to tip the unequal playing field in favor of the alternative parties and to reclaim the ownership of our beloved nation.

Please join our Facebook page here and invite your friends to do so to create awareness of the current affairs affecting Singaporeans. Please use our online web form to contact us.

Ni nah beh man, if you think I’ll sign up for the PAPies election “updates”. It’s just an exercise to collect Sinkies HP numbers — to find out those who are politically interested enuf to sign up for this shit. Tell me — how many uncles and aunties will bother with this? It’s only the Net-savvy and politically aware that will bother — and this is the group that PAPies want to keep track.
With the telecom infrastructure under PAPies control, once they know your HP number, they can pinpoint your location especially now everybody has 3.5G and internet-enabled HP plans.

We should expect new legislations that will be passed to prevent political publications by any other media forms except by those controlled by the Pro Alien Party.

These new legislations will be quickly rubber stamped through the present Parliament that is dominated by the Pro Alien Party.

The Presidential Election will most likely come first. The last thing we need is another PAP sidekick like J Y Pillay to be our next President.

PAP has shown to be reckless with our money; we need someone truely independent to check them and ensure integrity with key appointments. We need a candidate the election committee will not be able to disqualify and it will be a slap on PAP’s own face if they try to assassinate his character.

Chiam See Tong is our best bet and he can win it with a promise of an annual salary of 900,000; a quarter of what current president is getting.

I heard that PAP members have been given serious training on how to challenge and argue to reject voting slips in the coming elections that favor oppositions, and likewise to legitimate slips that favor PAP. In a tightly contested area this is very crucial and determines the final outcome. Every Vote Counts.

Are the Opposition sufficiently organised and doing likewise? Remember you Reap what you Sow and don’t ever silently grouse later that the vote counting were “unfair”.

Please do your homework and due diligence if you want to be considered a serious alternative government.

    To HangJebat:

U dun anyhow bullshit!! Do u know that the counting agents comprise of members from all the parties in the constituency? Do u know that each vote is supposed to count at least 3 times at different stages? Do u know the process of counting? First, all the ballot slips are poured out. 2nd, all the ballot slips are sorted into Pro, against, void. 3rd, the slips are then tabulated & counted at least 3 times by different people. At the end, every ballot slips must be inspected, sorted & sealed into another box. All slips must be accounted for which will be signed off by both PAP & Opposition Counting agents.

CAN U ENLIGHTEN WHICH STAGE WILL THE BALLOT SLIPS BE REJECTED?? THIS FORUM IS FULL OF FOOLS!!!

  • Creampie:

Dun worry, PAP will continue to win this and future elections coz opposition are make up of fools!!! Oppostion do not have any clue how the whole politicial systems work in Singapore and they are just jumping their guns on anything they see!! One time they talk about Mas Selemat, then about SARS then flooding then HDB housing!! They are just trying to score political points with no solution!! At the end of the day, can the opposition provide for the person living down the road in Singapore?? Tell me the solution please!!

  • KNN:

@Lan Jiao: Which stage will the ballots be rejected?

Easy lah … at the 1st stage lorrr..
    E.g.
Somebody tick opposition instead of cross the box — rejected!
The cross for opposition is too light — rejected!
The voter write outside of the box for opposition — rejected!
The ballot slip is dirty, smudged even though can see the cross for opposition — rejected!

Also there will be like 100 or 200 pro-PAPies looking on the counting scene and making PAP catcalls to distract the opposition counters.

If the oppostion claim freak election result, they only have themshelves to blame coz their own people played them out during the couting process.

  • CruEL:

    @Creampie,

Is it the oppositions job to give you solutions? Actually they have, you just aren’t reading them. Have you asked yourself why? Have you been to the WP or SDP Websites to read up on their solutions? How many of these solutions are then used by the PAP?

So its ok for the PAP to continue to screw up the system? Its ok for PAP to continue to ride roughshod over Singaporeans? Its ok for PAP to not be held accountable for the high cost of HDB flats, flooding, mas selamat escape, overcrowded public transport? Its ok for the PAP to do that?

Suharto provided for the indonesians, when he was overthrown, indonesia took 10-12 years to recover and now they are MUCH better than the Suharto era. Japan, Taiwan, Korea all have opposition parties who oppose for the SAKE of opposing WITH NO solutions, are they dying? Is their countries going down the drain? The governments switch back and forth, did these countries go into oblivion?

    You deserve to be creampied.
