That’s the number that Singaporeans must wake up to. If it hasn’t set off alarm bells in you, you are not paying enough attention. It’s the number that the PAP wants to increase our population to. Unbelievable? Here’s what National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan: “A recent review of our long-term land use and transportation plan concluded that we have enough land to cater to a population of 6.5 million.”
Let’s start with the obvious. Singapore is already the third most densely populated country in the world with a density of 7,023 persons/sq km. Even Hong Kong – long known for its crowded roads and housing estates – is less dense (6,349 persons/sq km).
That was the data for 2009 where the number of people on this island was 4.98 million. The Govenment announced last week that the new number is 5.08 million – an increase of 100,000 in just a year.
Out of the 5.08 million, only 3.23 million are Singaporeans which makes 36 percent of the population foreigners. In other words for every three persons you see around you, one is not a Singaporean.
And because of the PAP’s very deliberate policy of flooding this country with foreigners, we have housing prices shooting through the roof because non-Singaporeans continue to buy property here like there was no tomorrow.
The MRT trains are at bursting point. One netizen reported that a station was so crowded that people coming up from the escalator could not get off safely because the train platform was filled with commuters.
Our roads are getting ever more crowded despite ERP gantries sprouting up like mushrooms. We’re digging more and more tunnels for the trains without knowing whether they are contributing to the unprecedented floods that we have had.
Foreign Minister George Yeo admitted that we needed a masterplan to figure out how to house all the foreign workers here. We’re beginning to see fights breakout between the foreign nationals. Violent crime is on the rise.
With all these problems still unresolved the PAP is, quite incredibly, bringing 80,000 more foreigners this year. This will continue until we hit 6.5 million over the next several years, by which time we will see more foreigners than Singaporeans in Singapore.
That is quite a statistic.
But it is more than a statistic. It is our lives and our future that the PAP is playing wth.
Whether our infrastructure will be able to cope with such a load no one really knows. What social impact the mass immigation will have on society is anybody’s guess. The Government has not conducted any study or produced any evidence that this small island can cope with 6.5 million.
All we have is Mr Mah Bow Tan’s proclamation on his party’s website that “so long as we have a leadership that has the foresight to anticipate challenges,” having 6.5 million people here will be good for Singapore. This coming from someone who could not even properly anticipate the supply HDB flats to meet the needs of the population.
We have the environment minister who can’t keep the floods out and the home Minister who can’t keep terrorist suspects in.
Then we have the sports minister who, even with an over-sized budget of $387 million, can’t properly organise a mini-Olympic games.
We also have the trade and finance ministers who could not see the looming global financial crisis in 2008 despite clear warning signals. As a result, Temasek and GIC lost $140 billion from bad investments.
Then there is the trade union minister who in the depth of the recession tells us that he feels so rich.
Leadership? Foresight?
There has been no public consultation, no debate and no proper scrutiny over this so-called foreign talent policy. All we have is Mr Mah’s banal promise. If this dangerous 6.5-million experiment fails, it will be too late. We, the ordinary folks, will be the ones paying for the mess.
The ministers who live in their Gurkha-guarded homes, far removed from the daily stresses that they place upon us, will not be affected. They will ask us to “bear with it” like the prime minister did in his ND Rally.
Singaporeans must rally around this issue. We must check the PAP’s recklessness and stop it from increasing our population by another 30 percent!

6.5 million people. This is a very powerful keyword to drill into people mind from now on leading to the next election.
The other keyword people should spread and use widely is the
‘Pro Alien Party’. This is by far the most applicable party name for them, which previously was Pay And Pay.

The oppositions should compile them and prepare to print hardcopies with multi langauges for uncles/aunties as well as for those who dont surf the net.

Did Singaporean agreed on this number? PAP government did not consult the citizen before implementing the immigration policy as if the country is owned by them. Yes, the current governing party has the track record. But if I post the question of whether other parties can screw up as badly as this party? Probably so…but at least they dun get paid as much for screwing up.
Beyond voting, I worry about my future generations survival. Our local government is probably the most impartial in the world. When most governments are pressurized to reduce their own countries’ unemployment rate, our government remains madly faithful to bringing in ‘talents’ who break bonds and contribute nothing more than just following the norms.

While HK can “blame” it on the US$ peg, Singapore has no such an excuse. We simply do not have a mechanism to deal with excessive liquidity, which is manifested in the strong physical property market: Where do the average Singaporeans, especially the retirees, park their surplus funds? Ironically, after all the excuses to increase the population numbers the most credible one remains to be the one that the Pro Alien Party refuse to speak about – that is to win the upcoming General Election, which the PAP has the gut feel that the majority of the younger Singapore voters will surely be rebelling.

We are suddenly experiencing a deluge of policy stupidity that saw the escape of a terrorist from a ISD high security lock-up; the departure of a Singaporean holding someone’s passport despite the high security lock-down status to catch the escaped terrorist; the deteriorating jobless situation that up till this day saw those age 45 and above still unable to find permanent jobs; the self-serving policy of the Government – (being the largest employer) – to force Singaporeans to accept employment contracts lasting only 2 to 3 years, so as to give themselves the flexibility to hire and fire according to the economic siutation without paying retrenchment benefits; the amazing talent of their ministers to lose US$100 BILLION of our reserve on reckless investment in overseas financial institutions when other more astute investors will not touch the stocks of these failed institutions; the lack of supervision in due diligence of the ministers in providing sufficient housing when the population is growing at a rate of nearly 40 times that of homes being built; the refusal of a supposedly good government that will not be accountable nor transparent in admitting to its policy failures that have lowered the Standard of Living for Singaporeans, who have seen real wage shrinking in an environment of deliberate suppression of wages amidst uncontrolled increases to the Cost of Living.
If you cannot respect the reality on the ground, try to show some respect to your intelligence or others may not do it for you.

PAP resort to packing the island with foreigners while (1) deliberately withholding the release of land and (2) deliberately building few flats to ensure demand will outstrip supply == housing prices will escalate through the stratosphere since housing is a rather inelastic NEED.
PAP govt own and control the majority of land and property in Singapore, they manipulate the immigration policies to ensure property prices go up up up and up because they benefit big time from property price increases. What happens next when the population grows to 6.5m and a 5 rm HDB flat costs $2m? PAP would pack up and run road, and the rest of us will be stuck with all these useless overpriced pigeon holes.

What the recent study show 6.5 million population is just nice for Singapore. Mr Goh said the Govt can slow down the process, when it reach to 5.5 million the intake will go on at a snail pace.
(note: our land size is growing, with more reclaim land being done)

Picture this scenario:
1) SGP GDP’s long-term growth target is 5%pa, and productivity growth 2-3%pa.
This translates into a population growth of 3%pa so as to sustain the GDP growth (over the long-term).
2) Present population of 5.1 million will hit 6.5 million people in about 8 years if population grows at 3%pa (or in about 12 years at 2%pa).
3) Current population growth rate of SGPoreans is 1.1%pa; either this has to go up or some others have to make way.
Is such an economic model sustainable in the long-term? After the 6.5 million target is breached in a decade or so, what’s next? SGP needs a strategic rethink on its economy model. A high economic growth rate has to be predicated on comparable high productivity growth, that would pave the way to raising the quality and standard of living here, higher wages without inflation, no overcrowding.

I think a number of the idiotic decision makers “planned” this…reason is they could not wait any more…kill the golden goose that laid the golden eggs…take all and run…
They can run…they can hide…they can even change their names or have plastic surgery…and they definitely has made plans with their cronies overseas to “protect” them from real justice.
Enough of these kinds of people…singapore and its people don’t need these parasites anymore…but these parasites just can’t let go cos of utter greed and self personal agendas.

Unbelievable! Why are everyone still saying the rapid FT intake is a mistake or bad planning by PAP??? It is not a mistake! They are not short sighted or in competent or out of touch with common people(whatever that means) It is intentional and it is working out exactly for PAP. It doesn’t take an masters in economics to know that overpopulation causes massive inflation. In the end it is this massive inflation that will benefit our great familee cos through Temasek holdings they they own practically everything in sg from banks to telcos to transport to real estate. Their salary being pegged to GDP is only a small part of the equation. Theres practically nothing that they don’t profit from having more and more population.
Besides by having an over abundance of labor supply they INTENTIONALLY suppress wages and buying power of the people. That way you slave off your whole life just to pay off your housing debt. In short the more they screw you up the more wealth they gain. So Singaporeans please wake up! Stop assuming your government is introducing policies to solve your problems. Since when are there any evidence for that? They are doing everything for their own benefit. And to think they love foreigners over Singaporeans is being naive. For what? They dun care for any of you low life beings be it FT or citizens. only how much they can profit from you. It seems they favor FT because they must make it attractive so that more FTs will come.

PAP ministers and MPs don’t travel in MRT trains and public buses. And they don’t walk on the streets like you and me. And they don’t live in crowded HDB flats. They are out of touch with the life of an ordinary Singaporean. We are suffering everyday being squeezed by all these masses of foreigners brought in by the PAP. We pay the price of the ill-sighted polices of the PAP.
Singapore was such a nice and much better place in the 70’s and 80’s when we were surrounded by true blue Singaporeans. If we only knew then that the PAP is going to lump and dump us with these foreign trash, making us loose our Singaporean identity, we would have never voted for the PAP.
THROW OUT THE PAP SO THAT WE CAN THROW OUT THESE FOREIGN TRASH AS WELL BY GETTING THE NEW GOVT NOT TO RENEW THEIR PR. USE YOUR VOTE WISELY.
