Revisited: PRC teacher obtained Singapore citizenships within TWO months
While real foreign talents like Mr Peter Kriz who graduated with a major in economics from Stanford University and a doctorate from Harvard University are denied Singapore PR, unskilled foreigners with NO special qualifications or expertise are given Singapore PR and citizenships within months.
Let us revisit the Zhang Yuanyuan fiasco last year:
Singapore PR Zhang Yuanyuan was lambasted by Singapore netizens for “renouncing” her PR on China’s National TV. Ms Zhang had earlier returned to China to participate in its 60th National Day Parade in Beijing.
In the CCTV Channel 7 news clip which was circulated widely on the internet, a beaming Ms Zhang showed her blue Singapore NRIC on the screen and proclaimed her desire to serve China, her motherland.
When interviewed by the Singapore media, Ms Zhang was nonchalant about the storm she stirred:
“It’s nothing much. Everybody is entitled to their opinion. They can say anything they like on the Internet,” she said in Mandarin.
Ms Zhang graduated from an unknown institution in China with a diploma and came to Singapore on a student pass. For two years, she studied English at the Cambridge Institute here.
Later, she became a Chinese language teacher at Julia Gabriel Centre for Learning for three years. At that time, she was also taking a degree course in business management at the Asia Pacific Management Institute.
Ms Zhang said she applied for permanent residency in 2006. It took only about TWO MONTHS to get approval.
“At that time, I thought it might be easier if I wanted to travel between the two countries,” she added.
A Chinese teacher is NOT a foreign “talent”. We have so many Chinese teachers in Singapore. Zhang would not be able to work in any other countries like Australia, Canada or New Zealand, let alone obtain PRs there.
Unlike in the past when only skilled workers are offered PRs, semi-skilled workers like Ms Zhang can now obtain PRs in a short span of time. In fact, some of them are even “actively” courted by the government to take up Singapore citizenship.
The Singapore government has eased restrictions for China nationals to study and work in Singapore in recent years.
It has become very easy for students in China to obtain a study pass to study in private English schools in Singapore. However, not all of them are here purely for academic purposes.
Some Chinese girls end up working part-time in karaoke lounges or as mistresses of rich Singapore businessmen. A few even ply their trade along the alleys of Geylang over the weekend.
The relentless influx of foreigners to Singapore had sparked massive unhappiness and disgruntlement on the ground.
Despite concerns from citizens that they are facing stiff competition from the newcomers, the government is adamant that its immigration policy will continue though it will “slow” the inflow of foreigners.
To make foreigners feel more welcomed in Singapore, the government has unveiled a series of measures to help them “integrate” into Singapore society including a $10 million Community Integration Fund to organize activities and events for them.
While some Singaporeans scoffed at the government’s attempts to “import” more foreigners as “cheapening” our citizenship, there is nothing they can do about it as long the incumbent remains in power.
During his recent National Day Rally speech, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong used the example of PRC BUS DRIVER as a “model” immigrant who has contributed to Singapore.
With due respect to bus drivers, how they can be considered as “foreign talents” is beyond one’s comprehension. Does Singapore lack bus drivers that we have to import them from China and somemore give them PR and citizenship?
Singapore must be the ONLY country in the world which gives PRs and citizenships to bus drivers, cleaners, construction workers, masseurs and even freelance prostitutes.
Even in Hong Kong, which is only a stone-throw away from China, it is nearly impossible for the mainland Chinese to obtain Hong Kong PR after working there for a number of years.
South Korea, which is the two most popular immigration destination for Chinese college students also impose stringent controls on the intake of Chinese workers though it has a low fertility rate comparable to ours as well.
Are we getting real foreign talents to complement our workforce and make us more competitive or are we getting economic migrants to add to the electoral registry as voters for them to vote for the PAP?
It is only natural that peasants from China, India and elsewhere will be eternally grateful to the PAP regime for offering them a second chance and better life in Singapore and thereby “repay” its kindness with their votes in the coming elections. However, are they adding to our fertility as well?
The population in 1999 was 3,958,700 – with the citizens and PRs numbering 3,229,700. By 2009 it was 4,987,600 – and a resident population of 3,733,900.
Over the ten year period, while the total population had exploded by 1,028,900 – the number of citizens and PRs had grown only 504,200. [See Ref #1 below]
Resident Live Births in 1998 was 41,636 – and in 2008, it was 37,277 [See Ref #2 below]
Resident Total Fertility Rate in 1998 was 1.48 – and in 2008, it was 1.28 [See Ref #2 below]
After ten years, our total fertility rate dropped from 1.48 in 1998 to 1.22 in 2009. Our population increase for the last ten years is fueled largely by immigration with no consequent increase in total fertility at all.
To put it bluntly, the new immigrants are not having two or more children and they are contributing to our aging population instead thereby imposing a greater burden on our limited public healthcare resources in the next few decades or so.
There is an urgent need to discuss and debate on our present immigration policies so that we will be getting real foreign talents like Mr Kriz rather than foreign “thrash” like Zhang Yuanyuan who use Singapore only as a stepping board for greener pastures elsewhere.

OMG!!!Singapore PR is EXCLUSIVELY CHEAP!!!
I’m totally speechless…
The govt dun really care wat sort of ppl coming into SG as long as they pay tax and inflate the GDP (to justify for their million dollar paycheck).
If these ppl convert to citizen, its a bonus. They can dilute the unhappy votes from local born Singaporean.
And is the so-call SPR decided to leave, no harm done to them. They can just import more, PLENTY available from where they come from.
remember the sorry story of s-chips. well, when you have no QC, that’s what you get.
Foreign Talents in Singapore :
Karangoonie Men
Clinic Assistants
Coffee shop assistants
Sales Promoters
Shoe shine boy
Ladies of the Night
Do you still wonder why PAP’s standard of qualiy, like their MPs, have gone downhill since our Dear Leader took over the running of the country from his father.
haha. i know of a PRC student, who interned at my work place. She was not great. Eventually i found out she is now working with one of SG’s sovereign wealth fund. Hmm.. interesting. Coming from me who is not a local..
The famiLEE is desperate and is giving away Sinkapore PR like flyers on the streets. They need fresh supporters to retain their 60% mandate regardless of the quality of the PRs.
Practically any Chinese in China who can afford to buy a plane ticket to Sinkapore and study or work there will get one if they wanted to.
TR should consider setting up a Chinese Site advising foreigners on how to get a PR in Sinkapore and charge a ‘consultation fee’ in the process.
Sure to make hell alot of money.
At one stage of our history, PR was so hard to get and even marriage was no assurance. Then it was said that an investment of 500 000$ could get you PR. Then they tried to get Hongkies in. They came in droves, bought houses, sold them at a profit and then left. Now Singapore PR is so cheap. Astounding!
There is a hidden agenda in letting so many PRCs coming here. I believe that is in the line of buying favors for the future.
The ICA should openly laid out the criteria for PR…
What is the reason for change in criteria from skiled to semi-skiled?
Is there really a shortage of semi-skilled workers? Even so, why issue PR and not EP?
These are the questions we need our govn’t to answer first !!
Left with no other options, it has been recently reported that more and more unemployed female Singaporeans are taking up training to be confinement nannies (maids).
In other words, LKY’s vision has now become a reality except that more & more Singaporean women are now becoming maids in our own country, SINGAPORE.
Because we had a dose of incompetent PAP leaders ? What a joke, he should slap his own face for having said that !
Looks like getting a PR or citizenship in our country is as cheap as buying a candy. With an open floodgate, no wonder it is so easy and so cheap to get them. Thanks to the open door policy where any Tom, Dick and Harry are welcome with open arms. I am quite sure there is no shortage of local born citizens who are well qualified to do the jobs now held by so called FT. And I don’t think the number of FTs holding junior/mid-management/executive positions is a small number.
Ask her to Try getting a PR into Australia. Real First world countries do not throw PRs at applicants like her within two months, if at all
Brudders,
Stop whining and make a difference when it matters. Otherwise, our women will end up as nannies and our men will end up as security guards looking after the properties of the Foreigners.
is there not enough examples of how our lives are getting worse. we are being taken for granted.
wah, really fast now.
few years ago, my colleague have to graduate from local polytechnic or university first. then to find a job and apply for PR. the whole process take 4 to 5 months. she said it was not easy to apply PR for that time.
Wait for the coming elections…. the govt will announce that PRs CAN VOTE!!
Lee Hsien Loong, slated to become the city-state’s prime minister next month, arrived in Taiwan on Saturday and met top government and opposition officials.
Singapore described his visit as “private and unofficial,” while Taiwanese official sources said the economy and trade were at the center of meetings with Lee, rather than the China issue.
Nevertheless, Beijing reacted angrily to Lee’s visit, with its foreign ministry saying the unannounced trip “harms China’s core interests.”
==============================================================
To appease China, LHL probably agreed to employ 5 million Chinese citizens in Singapore.
The foreigners coming to Singapore are not talented but 3rd World Trash. The PAPies are really desperate to stay in power.
Hey guys
She just studied English at a Private Institution and with a China diploma, how on earth she earned $4k per month here in Singapore?
THE rotten policy that PAP have pass. With many foreigners getting in singapore, are singaporean still belong to their country. MANY foreigners with their two way ticket, they made
money and sent it to the homeland, so singapore dollars are getting cheaper and cheaper, so as singaporean having to pay their housing and living, as a singaporean, they are getting not enough money, let us ALL singaporean, it is time to change the system that PAP doing. SINGAPOREAN have to stop this kind of doing.
FOREIGNERs are becoming their first choice for the PAP party, do we singaporean need them to run the country, let singapore do something different, not to rule by the PAP.
I call all those who have had enough of all the bullshits from the PAP that has sold Singapore to foreigners to make a decisive action by voting them out. We have nothing to lose really. As we can see for ourselves that as citizens our lives will only get worst under this group of self-serving fat cats.
The PAP party will go down in history as a great party that had gone on to become a greedy monster that betrayed the trust of its people.
Free yourself from the non-existence chain of fears that PAP try to imprison you all these years. Let PAP feel the full force of your anger and crush it with your determination to regain our beloved homeland that you once live.
The time has come. It is now or never.
Singapore! I love you!
Singapore Gorberment are TRAITORS!
in order to promote population. the application of pr or new citizen need to be fast. lky and his son already said we need them.
If you were an employer, who do you want to employ? Foreigner, PR or Native Citizen.
I think if I can I would employ a foreigner if there is no hustle in getting employment permit or pass. Reason being they are hardworking and unlikely to leave my employment so easily as a local. It gives me time to train him to do a good job.
Next I will take a PR because this group of people is more tame and listen to instruction and carry out their work diligently.
Lastly, a local who will never stop telling me which organization pays them with terms that is always better me. They join me not just to do work for me plus they will tell me what I should do to make their work more enjoyable than what it is. The native is always right.
THIS IS THE REAL PICKNOSE
i think the true agenda for the immigration policy is yet to be revealed
I have had enough of the arrogant PAP and their stupid immigration policies
It’s easier to get SPR than to win 4-D
PM said loud and clear that PRs are selected based on very stringent criteria, it is PM’s word Vs Ms Zhang’s word who would you beleive?
Surely you are not saying that the words from our top leader who is paid in excess of 3Million a year is worth less that that of Ms Zhang.
It is an insult to even put the two side by side.
So, you still think that “Mr Lee” is great?….pathetic !
Companies who were prejudicing against Singaporeans in the past have become smarter.
I know some who has up their requirement to push locals out from their job advertisements.
Jobs which previously called for A level or Diploma is now advertised requiring a degree for even a basic clerical position. Pay and actual work scope has not changed at all.
What is going to happen?
Say a local degree holder applies for the position, almost 100% sure that person will not be interested even if he/she is willing to stomach the low pay due to the basic clerical nature of the job.
A level or Diploma holders are now not considered due to the new qualification requirement.
This leaves the position basically opened to only foreginers where you can get degree holders with your eyes closed (I recall nearly all my philippino maids were degree holders) and the low pay to Singaporeans will be more than adequate to satisfy them afterall they used to be earning $300-$400 as maids.
Nett result is companies are fulfilling gahmen’s preaching that Singaporeans are not willing to take up job offers which can only be filled by foreigners in reality locals are being forced out of work that traditionally would have been taken by locals.
Our Gahmen has clearly screwed up the job market to the disadvantage of locals. Worse part is they are not even recognising this let alone coming up with measures to correct their mistakes.
Looks like there is only one option left for singaporeans, teach these leaders a real hard lesson to get them to realise that we are the real people who they should be concern about first and foremost before others.
Wrt SM Goh’s suggestion that PR have either got to take up citizenship after a few years or give up their PR, I think this is a fabulous idea.
Just read the newspapers today about some PRs saying that they would rather give up PR than their citizenship. I say, “Good riddance!” These PRs are the type who come over here for their own economic gains which they hope to accumulate over their working years and then move overseas to retire comfortably. This is thus no brainer that if trouble breaks out, these people will be the first to scamper. In essence, these PRs are no different from leechers sucking blood when hungry, and dropping off when they are full.
The claim that these PRs contribute to the economy via taxes does not hold water. Tourists do that too, so does anybody staying in any part of the world. Living means eating, shitting and working – taxes are applicable to all these human activities in any organised civilization.
What Singapore really needs is people who will stand by her come hell or fire. As we have no natural resources, it is important to nurture Singaporeans and give them opportunities to flourish.
By allowing PRs to come and rake in money for their own selfish gains over Singaporeans, we are sacrificing our future for short-term GDP growth.
For all the ah pek soldiers… lau-pengs…you don’t deserve $9000/-.
Many baby-boomers who are lau pengs and jobless or laid-off due to
50+, in fact, are more desperate than the better qualified younger NSmen.
To my mind this policy doesnt hold water except they are younger voters.

Easy larr .. Even MP like Irene Ang help to apply PR for these trash .
Singapore is being screw up by our high paying all mighty Papaya

What can this bunch of nickumput see …. only see their salary increment.
Brothers , i can foresee if we don’t do something it , game over for all
tru borne Sin. Vote for change in this coming GE
The numbers, figures and “FACTS” are out. During the last 10 years, the influx of PRs are mainly from our Neighbor Malaysia
1)Malaysian Chinese almost double
2)Malaysian Indian
3)Malaysian Malay a slight drop
http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_573457.html
Are we barking at the wrong tree??? Most of the influx of PRs are actually from Malaysia. Infact Malaysian Chinese PRs almost double, should we focus our energy and resources on the right target rather than India & China.
This is really funny…Its easier to get PR in Singapore than to get one in utopia…hahaha….
all these ppl(foreigners) are like locusts.here only to clear out the paddy field(singapore) and leave.end of the day farmers(true citizen of singapore) is the one who suffer.other farmers(ppl from other countries) will of course try to prevent locusts to their paddy fields yet ours seem to be the only one paddy field to be inviting them in.Wat a JOKE

The PAP PR criteria is obvious. It is given to people from 3rd world countries who are grateful to the PAP, like the foreign thrash flooding our trains, streets and rental HDB flats. Real talent like the prof cannot get because they are opinionated and will not be grateful to the PAP.
The writing is on the wall — time to migrate and get the fark out of Singapore before the sh!t hits the fans.
look at the latest discussion now – people prefer to stay as PRs, they don’t want their PRs revoked, they don’t want citizenship.
PRs give them the best of all worlds without defence obligations, thanks but you can keep your citizenship to yourselves and your children who are happily running around army camps. we’ll just remain PRs. RIGHT, our country is THAT stupid.
denial is not the first sight of solving a problem.
the pigs are denying that there is a problem.
So we should not expect them to solve it.
i hope sinkies retake their ownership-dignity,jobs,rights etc
the only way out is to vote the pappies out.
there is no other way.
make pappies the minprity in gahmen and let oppo tekan them hard.
Looks like the final “battle” has begun. Who will the last one standing?
It’s time to get ready to “fight” and win this “war” for ourselves.
We cannot depend on a bunch of selfish leeders. We need self-less Singaporeans to run the country, to think about what the people wants.
官字两个口 – no matter how we talk here, because they hold the authority, its as though they’ve TWO mouth and can out-talk us. Let us balance the situation with our bare-hands.
投票 uses that bare-hands to vote.
another great rebuttal by TR.
Taken off wiki:
“Having taken Chinese and Japanese lessons since 1942, Lee Kuan Yew was able to find work transcribing Allied wire reports for the Japanese, as well as being the English language editor on the Japanese Hodobu (報道部 — an information or propaganda department) from 1943 to 1944.”
“During the Japanese Occupation of Singapore, Nathan worked for the Japanese civilian police as a translator.”

“At the moment, our policy will be, condominium, private sector.
They want to buy, let them buy because they actually bring in money for Singapore. They may not actually stay there but they bring in money.
“They buy from locals, locals are happy to get the money but it’s not actually adding to space. In fact, that’s actually ideal. They buy here, they don’t drive cars, they don’t live here, we just get their money! They’re buying air!” laughed SM Goh.
Can somebody explain to me what he mean by this? Who’s got money? Who is laughing? Is he saying the foreigners are stupid?
wow. 2 months only. and to think they took 14 months to give PR to me, much more skilled than that chinese teacher. sometimes PAP is not as efficient as we would like it to be.

WHO IS SO STUPID TO RISK SUDDEN DEATHS OF THEMSELVES AND OR THEIR CHILDREN IN A NUCLEAR POWER “INCIDENT” IN THE FUTURE – HOWEVER CAUSED – WHEN IT IS AN UNNECESSARY RISK AND THERE ARE UNLIMITED OPTIONS ELSEWHERE IN THIS WORLD.
SMART PRs WILL STAY AS PRs AND CALL YOU BLUFF. AT MOST LEAVE FOR A DIFFERENT SHORES WITH THE CREDENTIALS AND OVERSEAS EXPERIENCE ALREADY ESTBLISHED IN SINGAPORE.
If Sinkie citizenship is such hot attraction dying to be had, do you seriously think that they need to be “forcibly encouraged” to take it up???
Never heard of “astronaut PRs since the 1990s? The HongKies have been smart winners in this game for more than a decade already. Who is blind not to see and follow????
A Chinese teacher is NOT a foreign “talent”. TAXI drivers are true talent. Yhey can speak broken english;mandarin;malay and many dialects.

SM Goh is wrong. The foreigners are not plainly buying air, they are buying units to rent out and earn $$$.
SINGAPORE PR becomes a shit and our SINGAPORE VALUE is down

Don’t get too emotional on Ms Zhang’s case, guys. She is not a Singaporean, of course she attaches her heart to China. The thing I admire about her is her love for her country, the thing which Singapore lacks. It is also natural for Malaysians working here to prefer to retire in Malaysia. Malaysia is where they grew up.
The reality is that a lot of these Chinese students also return to their motherland after their studies or after working here for a while. Not all will go to the US, Europe, Australia, Canada, or New Zealand. Not all will stay in Singapore too. Modern China now has the magnetic field powerful enough to suck back all her people/talents from abroad. China is booming. In fifteen years’ time, I can tell you, this emigration rate will drop like hell. Actually you don’t even have to complain this complain that. The global tide will run the day. Very soon, even if Singapore open her doors bigger, they won’t even step in.
A good paper to read:

your last statement is unnesscary and fellow the disgusted trend of TR. ppl like u, help PAP to win
Application for PR is So Easy that it will shock Singaporeans.
Even if you are a foreigner living in their country, the moment they secure a work permit to work in Singapore, they can IMMEDIATELY apply for PR without even setting foot in Singapore. Processing takes 2 weeks at the fastest and presto!
An Instant Singapore PR who straight away enjoy almost all of the benefits of Singapore Citizens (save for that few pathetic hundred dollar difference), buy HDB flats…etc.
This is how FAP is giving away our cheap passports to anyone.
Oii she is talent in looks department ok! Who says no talent.
Talent in hookwinking guys?
Talent in spreading her legs and cumming non stop for 1h?
These are also talents.
We are so talent rich in these areas. More PRC mei mei to come!
We are a talent whore nation!
singaporeans need to constantly remind ourselves that the pap does not equal to singapore. they are merely elected or by the backdoor entry to look after the interests of all singapreans. putting our minds together, we can do wonders in the election. they are not our master(s). things can be changed, i believe.
yeah! welcome the chinese….

hahahahahaha!!!!
Ha! This is so insulting! Even today news on Xin Min Chinese newspaper stated that a Malaysian took the wrong passport (his wife one) and managed to get through Singapore custom. Wonder when our Singapore custom followed Malaysia custom standard… Yea, our minister is rite. We r OPEN to all FT! We r open to daylight robbers from neighbourhood country!! This time Malaysia, next time daylight robbers from anywhere is free to enter our country without any identification. See, no wonder so many illegal workers in Singapore. Our total population still havent include all these illegal workers leh..
To that custom officer who kenna caught one:
Y U chop for those illegal PRC women in exchange for S*X and let them anyhow enter our country?! Y I smuggle a tube of bubble gum then u catch n fine me?! Serve u rite that u got into jail!! Wahahahaha!!!
Instead of discussing what this repeat telecast aims to do,the netizens as expected went on a crazy spree about foreigners. Stop being such a nincompoop, the voting bloc lies with the oldies, aunties and Malays. The netizens, overwhelmingly disconnected and disgruntled failures are but a vocal MINORITY, the opposition would be lucky to win 40% in the coming election. I hope a lot of opposition candidates get elected but i am skeptical and this cycle would get repeated all over again. Complaints Complaints Complaints, Whine Whine Whine, dangle a carrot with a few hundred dollars into their bank account and promise of lift upgrading, hey presto, they get voted in. Seriously guys, stop blaming the foreigners, i hate being a stranger in my own land too but i am not that naive to think that the foreigners are to be blamed for it.
What a f**k is PAP doing?
China should be struck with all sorts of natural disasters, floods, earthquakes, mudslides, typhoons and no help rendered to them. ALL PRC WOMEN ARE PROSTITUTES, WHORES, SLUTS, HOOKERS AND ALL PRC MEN ARE SON OF BITCHES, GIGOLOS, BUAY GAN, BO JI AND HELL, I WISH THEY WOULD BE SET ON FIRE AND NOT LET BE ALLOWED TO DIE. SEEING THOSE YOUTUBE VIDEOS ON HOW THEY ABUSE ANIMALS REALLY MAKE MY BLOOD BOIL. SIBEI DULAN PRCS. FUCK U ALL!
In the interest of free speech, we have let some really weird people run their mouths off in Temasek review. Why hate a group of people so much for the actions of a minority?
An eye for an eye makes the world blind – Gandhi.
It is totally insane how the city has changed since I was a child.
Well written post, good researched and useful for me in the future.I am so happy you took the time and effort to make this. See you around
