Is Temasek Holdings going a bit too far?
Asking a legally registered domain website to change their name? What is this? Is Temasek Holdings going a bit too far? If they are really making that much money for Singapore, make an offer and buy that domain name then. Singapore International Airlines (SQ) registers their domain name as http://www.singaporeair.com and uses it because these 3 letters “sia” have been registered by other local and foreign domains. If SIA (SQ) wants it so badly, they can just buy it totally and reserved it for themselves. Otherwise, register or patent it so that others cannot use similar names like MacDonalds or KFC. Don’t want? Then shut up, go on with your own life. In the event that they have used their domain name to misrepresent or illegally used their domain name to gainfully capitalise, then go ahead and sue them. Alternatively, apply an International Court Order to get them to change their name. Don’t want to spend money to that? Then again, just keep quiet and go on to show Singaporeans how much money you can earn for our country. BTW, don’t forget to wag your tail when you are happy. OK?
Election time is drawing near. Is this another ploy to stamp out opposition voices and clamping down of oppositions to use online media for freedom of speech? It is a socio-political website and now to be “fixed” so that patriotic Singaporeans’ voices will have one less avenue to voice out their dissent? Is this fair? What is Justice and Equality?
It is so contradictive to describe Temasek Review as “misleading and irresponsible” and at the same time proclaim that their company “has no issue with the desire to foster and facilitate serious debate and discourse and to provide news of socio-political affaris of Singapore”. There seems to be a Public Relations blunder or wanting to show Singaporeans of their true colours as a leading and responsible corporate image?
Since 2004, Temasek Holdings had been printing their annual reports with the name “Temasek Review”, why they did not object to it for the past year or so and wait till now? What is the hidden agenda? Pardon me if I have jumped to conclusions but I have my doubts.
Definition of the word REVIEW (as per wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn)
* reappraisal : a new appraisal or evaluation
* an essay or article that gives a critical evaluation (as of a book or play)
* follow-up: a subsequent examination of a patient for the purpose of monitoring earlier treatment
* accounting) a service (less exhaustive than an audit) that provides some assurance to interested parties as to the reliability of financial data
* revue: a variety show with topical sketches and songs and dancing and comedians

* a periodical that publishes critical essays on current affairs or literature or art
appraise critically;
* recapitulation: a summary at the end that repeats the substance of a longer discussion
* hold a review (of troops)
* (law) a judicial reexamination of the proceedings of a court (especially by an appellate court)
* refresh one’s memory; “I reviewed the material before the test”
* practice intended to polish performance or refresh the memory
* look back upon (a period of time, sequence of events); remember;
* inspection: a formal or official examination;
A quick check also tells there are quite a number of organisations using the name “Temasek” like a Junior College, Polytechnic, Business School, Design School, and there is even a restaurant in Sydney, Australia, with the same name.
All these organisations would also conduct REVIEWS of their own nature and publish them. Does that mean all of them need to change their names, just to give way to them?

Looks like a possibility that PAP has hidden agenda for doing this. This is probably their first step in their plan to begin their series of actions to get rid of TR.

Let us gathered and think of a new name for TR.
How about “The Natives” as a start? or “The Singaporean Review”

ah… TR’s written acknowledgement in this article that TH’s annual review is called “Temasek Review” clearly points to the potential for confusion in the TR name selected some years after TH used TR. This isn’t therefore necessarily a (broad) case of the usage of the term “Temasek”, but quite possibly a very narrow case of “Temasek Review”.
The objections of a purported owner of TR to not be the owner might provide sufficient grounds for TH to ferret out the identities of the editorial team to legally and properly lodge a request to change the name. In the interest of keeping the TR editorial team’s identity unknown, TR would probably do better just to rebrand itself (yet again).

Offer to sell the web domain temasekreview.com to Temasek Holding at an astronomical sum and agree to a name change. If they take the bite. Then change to something like “Temasek Report” or “Temasek facts” and see what they have to say …

temasek revealed sounds really prospective!
lol well, for what its worth, we’re seeing sporadic motars flying from the sky hitting temasek review recently. Almost like they are at the brink of doing a blitz on you guys soon.
In any case, more exposure and publicity for the webby.
Go good, go strong TR, we’re behind you!
(examples stated above are not to be taken literally, but metaphorically =D )

The free publicity for TR is a real godsend. I think this whole episode is going to backfire tremendously on the establishment.
But TR really needs to do a better job of taking advantage of this recent publicity. With lots of new readers coming to the site now, why not re-publish some of your most insightful and popular articles for their benefit?

‘Temasek’ will soon become a ‘registered’ trademark that nobody can use?
All these GLCs ar$eholes are really getting into my nerves. A damn bloody MD(must be another ar$ehole scholar) can stop others from using this name? This name belongs to all Singaporean, get lost!

It’s a ploy to draw out the people behind TR, that’s all. Once that’s done, they will step aside and the defamatory lawsuits will begin. Even if they don’t win, they want to drag it out to make it expensive for TR. Apart from that, it is handy to be able to threaten the members here, now that TR is such a big voice (special thanks to New Paper et al for the free publicity).
Change the name – don’t go head on. These guys are cunning and want to silence the free speech here. Make it a simple name to remember like “Lion City Review”.
Don’t get checkmated into a corner by these implements of The Dynasty to silence dissenting voices.
Chin up – clean up a little and we can be a credible voice.

One point that seems to be missed in this “criticism” of Temasek Holdings:
How did The People allow this to happen in the first place? Meaning: how come for so long, did the people (supposedly) in-charge of their own self-determined destiny — the good citizens — allow (yes, allow) their govt to become so unyieldingly powerful to the point that its own “private” enterprise — Temasek Holdings — behaves like bully?
And bullying peaceful citizens, no less. When you look at it that way, see how preposterous it is, you can’t help but feel angry, and somewhat bewildered.

YES. Go to international court and not the kangaroo court. Definitely they will lose. Because Temasek and Review are not words created by them. They can be found from dictionary. If they want to sue then the PM can sue those people with the name “龙” . Because in ancient China, this word can only be used by emperor and no other citizens can use it.

Dear Pamela, just follow the example of an Indonesian Daily Newspaper, Kompas, that bought the website http://www.kompas.com because it had been previously owned by a small company in US. Let Lee Kuan Yew or his crony (PAP) compensate you for losing an invaluable name “Temasek Review” Don’t give up!!! Otherwise these ba*ds will take it for granted

Firstly TR has been hijacked by PAP haters and as a result their opinions are not worth reading. This has brought disrepute to TR.
A name change is good for TR to start a new leaf. What pride is there when foreigners are manupulating our minds? Talk is free. They are not here to face the shit.
Don’t bring Western demorcracy to Singapore. They are not truly democratic to start with. Freedom of Speech must come with responsibility.
Not anyhow shoot thru the arse.

More so now TH has given it the publicity and news in the local newspapers.
It is now mission accomplished as TH has come asking, isn’t it?

When one does a Google search, Temasek Review inadvertently appears. It’s just too enticing for the curious to skip it. TH is headed by some very powerful person, imagine the embarrassement if another powerful foreign person asks if the both sites are linked? The name Temasek Review will remain a thorn in their flesh, a big spur stuck into their hide, if not removed or changed.

Why can’t Temasek Ah Ching go that far?
Can lose 58 billion without losing head. Still dare to appear publicly at MIL funeral and smiling still later at some social event.
Can pretend to step aside and step back again with double compensation. Does the country have so much money to throw around? The family really thinks they are Louis IV and Ah Ching fancies herself as Marie Antoinette. But we know from history, their days are numbered.
Temasek Review holds true to the Singapore spirit. The other is just another natural freak of distortion showing the dysfunctional gene in that family.
So why not get all the Lee KY (let’s start with that GEL first ok)to change their names as well. The Father should give Harry a big tight slap. Who does he think he is to monopolise a name!

actually, the word temasek should, if anything, belong to Indonesia!
since it was coined by a Javanese prince whose descendants are surely living in present-day Indonesia. Temasek Holdings cannot lay a claim to this age old name as its own, simply because it wasn’t invented by them but by someone else—who never bothered to trademark it.

Temasek really sucks. They can’t even earn money which is their core mission. Boasting equal value to pre-crisis is bullshit. With STI at 3200, whose fund isn’t NEAR pri-crisis level? Are we employing idiots there? They just miss the crisis without gaining anything. Maybe they are only good at asking website to change their name. Useless fools working there. Especially someone who shamelessly retook that position again.

Temasek Holdings has lost billions and billions of public funds, all without any public inquiry or investigation of any sort, and the loss occurring while it was managed by a relative of the old man.
On the other hand, Temasek Review is a online site that furthers transparency and promotes freedom of press and speech.
Temasek Holdings should be ashamed of itself.
TR should ask TH to bugger off.
