Hard Facts on Singapore
Hmmm something to ponder on ……… The only truth about LKY’s system of govt is it leads to us working harder and harder….sometimes for less.
In addition to the truth our wisest leader has uttered, I would like the authors to consider the following UNDISPUTED quantitative truth reported by various studies in the past few years and most of these, Singaporeans know for sure is the truth and nothing but the truth:
1. Singaporeans work the most number of hours per week in the world.
2. Most Singaporeans will never own a car because COEs are limited.
3. The Average home of a Singapore has fallen from 1660 sq feet to about 1000 sq feet in the past decades.
4. Fertility rate in Singapore has fallen to below Japan – among the lowest in the world.
5. Less than half the Singaporeans can meet the minimum sum for CPF retirement accounts. Meaning many will never retire.
6. 17% of Singaporeans do not have medical insurance – the highest in the developed world give and take a few % compared with USA.
7. Singapore has the fastest growing foreigner population per capita in the world. Within a decade, the majority of people in Singapore will be foreign born.
8. Singapore has the highest paid political leaders in the world….
9. Singapore has the highest income gap of all developed countries.
10. More than one person kills himself/herself every day.
11. Singaporeans have the highest savings rate in the world due to CPF but many still can’t retire.
12. The Singapore parliament has the fewest opposition in terms of % of seats in the world among countries that claim to be democratic…of course we are also democratic.
13. Singapore bans chewing gum but legalise casinos. Casinos are legalised in only 2 of the 50 American states.
14. Singapore hangs the most people per capita in the world. Even more than China….do believe this feller called Shadrake.
15. Singapore cars are the most expensive in the world.
16. Singaporeans have the lowest purchasing power among all developed countries according the UBS…even Malaysians in KL have higher purchasing power.
17. Singapore govt has the highest sovereign wealth fund per capita. ..and among the top few in absolute terms.
18. Singapore spends more on defence than Malaysia and Indonesia combined – so I guess we don’t need too much diplomacy and or diplomats, can afford to badmouth them according to wikileaks. Now that they know, we better spend a $100M extra this year on defence.
19. Singapore has the No.1 civil service in the world according to Minister Lim Swee Say. I want to add we also have No.1 civil service in terms of pay for the top echelon. Some can afford French cooking lessons.
20. Singapore has only one news paper company called SPH that produces hoards of quality papers such as Straits Times, Sin Min and other reading delights. We had 5 newspaper companies a few decades ago, I guess this business is in decline even as the population increases.
21. Singaporeans serve NS for 2-2.5 years, this is the longest in the world after Israel. We do it because we can afford the time. Many Singaporean workers will work their whole life without retirement anyway so what is the difference putting aside 2 years.
22. Singapore has the world’s oldest and wisest politician. His name is Lee Kuan Yew. As long as he is around, the good life for Singaporeans will continue. He will make sure of that.
23. Lee Kuan Yew’s son is Lee Hsien Loong who coincidentally became PM due to his own merit. His New Year Message this year asks Singaporeans to be more RESILIENT.
24. Singapore has the most expensive public housing in the world….but according to Minister Mah, it is still affordable.

How to stop 100 talents?
Start the change by Contesting in all wards and GRCs.
We may be surprised if people see many more step forward, a momentum may build up towards that day.

Some examples of contradictions by sg govt:
1. They built 2 casinos, yet they discourage ppl from gambling – aren’t S’pore Pools cater for punter/gamblers too?
2. They encourage companies to give former convicts a 2nd chance, but they don’t allow convicts to work in govt sectors. Worst still, former convicts can’t even work as a property agents now.
3. They discouraged ppl from lending money from those ah long, but they relaxed the money lending act and henceforth making those illegal ah long become legal ah long – yet the interest they charged r the same as illegal ah long
4. They discouraged ppl from over-spending, yet they relaxed the rule on CC and personal loan..instead of 2X credit limits, now become 4X credit limits
5. They encourage ppl to buy weekend cars to ease the traffic congestion, yet they increase the COE like there is no tmr
6. They encourage foreign talents to come in to increase the aging population, but they never take care of own citizens by giving additional perks so wives can give birth to more babies
7. They encourage people to save for retirement, but they never bother to raise the employers’ CPF contribution back to 20%
8. They discourage ppl from using CPF $ to invest, then why in the 1st place they introduce such law to use CPF $ to invest?

Actually I thought about it. We had to thank this old guy for turning a slump into a first world country. If not for him, Singapore can still be second world like Malaysia. But his love for Singapore has become very personal. Before the first dynasty, leadership is based on the merits, only the best would need. After the best person inherited the leadership, he decided to keep it with his son and family and Xia dynasty was formed.
This lesson shows when one is in power for too long, they become very personal, they want their son, daughter, family and friends to be around them and inherit the power and wealth. And this is mostly found in Asia, just like the recent example of MuraBARK.
And the policies here clearly shows nepotism at its max and politicians are rewarded like the world is coming to an end. The only consolation is this country is safe as the punishment is capital and most people are too timid or has no balls to voice out and let alone vote against.

One of the many truth that the post missed: Singapore is one of the smallest city states in the world, and has one of the smallest number of citizens on the planet (which do not reproduce, by the way). Singapore is an oddity and an alchemy very easy to destabilize. I am tired to hear fellow Singaporeans comparing this country to the US, the EU or other with millions and millions of people. I think that many Singaporeans do not realize at all that we live in a small dot in the sea, a country which 40 years ago, few would have trusted bout its survival.
Please, try, go and live in other countries, and see. There is a lot of thing to improve, but it is not through complains that we will resolve our problems. Also if we do not want migrants, and mistreat the few whom will be happy to stay and provide new generations (yes the PR are not ‘millions’ as I have heard in my market, but just a bit more than 500.000), we are to condemn Singapore to a very dark future.
I am not sure where this little dot will end, but I am sure that compare us to big countries with lots of populations and resources will not bring us very far indeed.

Scum ministers are paid millions every year, and one of them even loves donning Zorro fancy costume in his spare time. These scumbags too deserves to be given the People’s Middle Finger. In relating to point 6, it should also be noted that Mr Khaw aka Penang-born dud have a heart bypass surgery for only $8. This dud keeps on saying how good 3Ms are when it is full of holes. This dud also said that medical costs in Singapore are affordable. If what this dud said is true, why are people going to Malaysia to seek treatment as seen in recent New Paper article. Why are people avoiding hospitals like siao even though they are sick? This dud is talking nonsense. All Sembawang GRC residents, time to vote this Penang-born dud out in upcoming election!

As for point 20, Shanmugan said in Parliament that the TOC being gazetted as political association are NOT politically motivated ( http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_634873.html ). If what he said is true, then why is SPH and MediaCorp not gazetted as well? Why only TOC? Is he talking yet another rubbish? Then again, isn’t PM Lee the one who want to gazette TOC? Why no comment from him on this issue? Time for PM Lee to be realistic and gazette SPH and MediaCorp as well to prove that TOC being gazetted is not politically motivated! If not, I will believe that TOC being gazetted is politically motivated!

i think theres a misconception that singapore is a chinese country
Singapore used to be a malay island belongs to johor..
separated and turn into a multiracial country but turn out to be made into a chinese country from a person who fight and believe in “equality” Malaysian malaysia …. what a load of bull!
KEEP IT REAL!
Thanks goodness Singapore is small without resources…
so most probably when lee kuan yew die… singapore die with it…
give and take 10 to 15 years
don’t believe?
name a successful Singapore Company to date?
most of singapore company involved in service sector and import export
Singaporean lacks quality which is why they depend on foreigners
to sustain it economic growth
HISTORY LESSON
1st facts= if you travel from changi to tuas, does that mean you are changi race or tuas race? you are still a singaporean, right?
or if you travel from nanjing to beijing…. do you still be considered Chinese?
so, take from that point of context…..
Nusantara….
Malays used to sail(travel) from one place to another by ship
malays travel here and there within thier own sphere of influence
of south east asia
but then british and the dutch separate Nusantara into malaysia and indonesia.
Temenggong and Sultan Hussien sell of Singapura to british and not to the chinese… of course, it the malays’ fault
2nd facts –the influx of chinese immigrants brought from china by the British as labourers and coolies and overshadow its native population.
bear in mind, that most of them that came to south east asia are the least capable bunch. so don’t worry… once you attain the knowledge that you need to succeed, most probably you can. all you need is to believe in yourself.
3rd facts—In general, the ungrateful manipulate the naive
4th facts—convince the malaysian chinese to stay and apply citizenship. the more the merrier as it brings less racial conflicts in malaysia to progress….

Immigration is certainly one of the hot issues for this GE. There are lots of statistics provided by the government regarding this issue. However, where are the statistics for emigration?
There is inflow, immigration, and there is outflow, emigration. If the government truly is concerned about having talented, well-educated, and skilled people to stay in Singapore. Why not start with Singaporean who are born in Singapore? Why not honestly examine and tackle the issues leading to Singaporeans leaving the country? Would someone tell me where can I find statistics about Singaporeans leaving Singapore?
As many know, there are many Singaporeans who live and work overseas and I am one of those. The government has talked about attracting them home, finding ways to help these citizens feel a sense of connection. In many ways while I have lived overseas for many years, I still think of myself as Singaporean. I try to stay connected through keeping up with news of what is happening in my birth country.
One of the most basic connection for a citizen to any country, which claims itself as having democratic institutions, is the participation in its political system. When I lived in Singapore, I was too young to vote. when I was old enough to vote, I was already living in a different country. But given the current overseas voter rules, it is extremely difficult to get a chance to vote. For this upcoming GE, again I won’t have the opportunity to participate. I am 41 and never had the chance to vote. I like to feel vested in a country where I was born and am still a citizen. One day I hope to have the opportunity to vote and truly feel that my vote counts.

Every Singaporean who has left overseas to seek employment because of (a) political persecution (b) racist antiMalay policies (c) absence of civil liberties (d) better quality of life elsewhere (e) better education for their children, etc etc
knows that it is just NOT WORTH IT to work so hard and get pittance in the PAP system.
You will know this when you are actually away from Singapore. Singaporeans away remain citizens because (a) of family ties (b) they want to be able to vote for regime change

LOL….SOLD OUT. This is symptomatic of life in SINGAPORE. The gap between reality and truth can always be manipulated. I mean, what is the relevance of any book written by Straits Time journalist. The Straits Time is a well known propoganda machinery, that in its monopolistic nature, does not even bother to hide its true agenda that it serves its master, only to brain wash its readers. And the greatest irony of it all, is in the title of the book: “HARD TRUTHS”.

The real hard facts is that even the old man can’t handle the hard truths :-
1) PAP Govt says IRs are supposed to be family orientated and free shuttle buses are meant for gamblers only. Therefore families who gamble do not need free shuttle buses to go to IR, hence the need to ban free shuttle buses to IR. What about the families going to IR who do not gamble which the IRs are supposed to attract ?
2) PAP Govt says Singaporeans should not be encouraged to gamble but in Clementi alone, there is a total of 6 Singapore Pools gambling outlets operating with 2 of the outlets in Clementi Central alone located in 2 adjacent blocks within a 5 mins walk. Why so many betting outlets if Singaporean heartlanders are not encouraged to gamble ?
3) PAP govt says we have put enough counsellors in place to tackle the gambling addiction if it becomes a problem. If some addicted gambler commit breach of trust in handling employer’s monies; steal or turn to loan sharks to satisfy their gambling addiction; cause their families to break down or end up in divorce; etc., can the counsellor help pay for the gambler’s debts or put back the family in order ?
You mean to say our PAP govt actually lied in the first place ?

Tango, and you know this for a fact? Thjis view is merely speculative. There were many other able, passionate and intelligent men who started with LKY. LKY took advice from many of these colleagues. HDB, economical growth, the attracting of foreign investments were not LKY’s ideas. If LKY had not put them into prison under ISD or deported some of them to Malaysia, China etc, there could have risen a bigger, better prime minister for Singapore, one who truly serves the nation than himself.
Also, being one of the “smallest” city states, why is our givernment paid the highest in the world?

I’ve been to politically forums on US/China websites. Comments are constructively and logically argued out. As a Singaporean, I hope to see more of this in our forums and… less complaining. Haha, though it seems complaining is one of our fav past-times. We are unique as a country and scarce on resources, even people, so low birth rates. It is a dog eat dog world out there and I hope Singaporean realized that. Everything has a trade-off and I see alot of people complain about high houses pricing, expensive cars. Yes, but what is the solution? Are our generation so well taken care of by our parents that we can only complain and not propose something useful?
I will start here. For COEs, can we suggest that family buying their 1st car be given discount or lower COEs? The COEs prices are very high, partially driven by the rich who are buying more than 2,3,4 cars. I believe every family, especially with kids, should owe a car and that the govn try to help. Given more baby bonus is not going to help, if the quality of life doesn’t improve.

SINGAPORE GOT THE WEIRDEST ECONOMIC STATISTICS – 14.7% GDP inflation-adjusted growth in 2010 but household (not individual) income grew by 0.2% also inflation adjusted of 2.9% CPI increase.
http://sg.finance.yahoo.com/news/Singapore-household-income-yahoofinancesgwp-426174158.html?x=0#mwpphu-container
A lot of growth income disappeared into fantasy economic dreams. Someone in cyberspace alluded to the possibility of error interpretation of ANNUALISED household income as MONTHLY income.
Who could not be forgiven of this suspicion when proud GDP “growth” is benchmark against 0.2% gain in household income in 2010?

17. Singapore has the No.1 civil service in the world according to Minister Lim Swee Say. I want to add we also have No.1 civil service in terms of pay for the top echelon. Some can afford french cooking lessons.
18. Singapore has only one news paper company called SPH that produces hoard of quality papers such as Straits Times, Sin Miin and other reading delights. We had 5 newspaper companies a few decades ago, I guess this business is in decline even as the population increases.
19. Singaporeans serve NS for 2-2.5 years, this is the longest in the world after Israel. We do it because we can afford the time. Many Singaporean workers will work their whole life without retirement anyway so what is the diff. putting aside 2 years.
20. Singapore has the world’s oldest and wisest politician. His name is Lee Kuan Yew. As long as he is around, the good life for Singaporeans will continue. He will make sure of that.
21. Lee Kuan Yew’s son is Lee Hsien Loong who coincidentally became PM due to his own merit. His New Year Message this year asks Singaporeans to be more RESILIENT. I guess we better be given all the points I wrote above.
22. In Singapore, elections are for selecting type of estate upgrading you want – you choose one side, you get everything, you choose the other, you get nothing. That is why I feel strongly Singapore should stop wasting money on elections.
23. Singapore is the most socially engineered country in the world. They gave the poor incentives to sterilised themselves instead of help to look after children as they do in most countries.
24. Singapore has the longest prisoner of conscience in the world who was jailed longer than Nelson Mendela – Chia Thye Poh. One YPAP turkey who did not know history said MM Lee, the jailer, is just like Nelson Mendela. I laughed so hard when I heard that I broke 2 ribs.
25. Singapore electricity charges are the 2nd most expensive in the world. Our generators run on natural gas but consumers tariffs are based on oil.
26. Singapore men are the most stressed in the world. The Durex survey also found that Singapore men have the lowest sperm count in the world. I believe the 2 statistic are linked. Our fertility is the lowest in the world.
So to summarise, Singaporeans work long hours, experience the most stress but are called lazy and daff by their leaders who are now importing foreigners in large numbers to make up for lack of fertility among Singaporeans. Of course, bringing more people to the island will cause even more stress and even lower fertility which in turn leads to even more foreigners brought into the island. As you work harder, you have no children and the things you pay for become more expensive and out of reach. You live also cannot, get sick also cannot, die also cannot. You want to vote against also cannot because you’re worried the HDB flat you spend your whole life slogging for will drop in price if they don’t upgrade your home.
To say Singaporeans are trapped like hamsters in a cage always working out but going no where is an understatement. They are stuck in a system whose concrete walls are the hard truths proclaimed by one man. The only exit is death and you have to work all the way to get there because retirement will soon be history in Singapore.

Singapore have one of the most advance medical care in the world (but only for the rich), yet her citizens need to go to neighbouring country to seek cheaper medical treatment.
The million dollars men keeps reminding her citizen to be grateful of their achievement when the simple folks are having difficulty in paying for medical bill and bearing high cost of living. If anyone is interested, here is my story:
As a Singaporean, I enter one of the most competitive education system in the world. Not that I’m stupid, I’m juist average. Average struggling to be better. Granted, the smartest ones got ahead took the places in the best secondary school leaving me to school in the less ideal environment of a neighborhood school. I had to struggle in a bad environment where students have no dream no ambition and not infrequent to see them join gangs. Who can blame them? They already believe their lives will amount to nothing. Against the odds I struggle, teachers who give up on the students given the lousy environment, and surrounded by students who already gave up on themselves. Claw my way to JC, competition gets tough as the students from better secondary school have better background and discipline. Work hard. Finish “A” levels. Drafted in army – told to die for country.
Results come out. Okay average results. Hopes raised for a better future. Still serving my country, I applied for a place in the uni. Rejected by all of them. Went to appeal in my No. 4, saw the campuses filled by foreigners from China, Vietnam and India. I believe they are probably smarter than me being sourced from the top 0.1% of the China & Indian population of 1.5 billion combined. How can I a neighborhood boy compete for places with these top brains from foreign lands. I’m just an ordinary boy trying his best. Why is this chance for a better life taken from me?
ORD from, army, those friends with poorer results than me but richer parents all went to Australia or Canada to study. They say cannot survive without degree in Singapore. So I don’t have degree, still must survive. Look for job, job pay pittance. Sometimes work under foreigner. Hop around for a while found out what the word ’survive’ means. Survive means just keep yourself alive ….but nobody can stay alive without hope for better days ahead. To buy some hope, I indulge in 4D everyweek end. That is the best hope for me.
In the end, I realise that is the life of a typical Singaporeans. You see those long queues at Singapore Pools – they exist because of the simple fact that a person can’t live without hope and he will grab any he can find …even if it is false hope.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining that the system is particular harsh on me. It is the same for all average Singaporeans born in poor families. I’m not allowing these challenges and obstacles they artificially put in my path to crush me. I’ll press on but I won’t forget those who made life tough for me and many others.
Singapore will always be my home and I’ll not let those who are harsh to me force me out of my home. I’ll fight to reclaim my future and have my freedom:
Cry Freedom Singapore
———————
Five stars arise, our thoughts idealised
A nation is born, our allegiance sworn
Born to a home to call my own
That is all I’ve known, where I’ve grown
Out of the poverty, I came the farthest
My future was bright till they shut the light
Betray us locals and deepen our plight
Our future’s bleak, yet we cannot speak
So I end up struggling, fighting to eat
The less I have, the bolder I get
With my hands, I wave our flag
Democracy, Equality and Justice
Ideals I will die to protect…

Singapore was not a slump. It was a prosperous port city, a prized possession of the British Empire in those days. Even before the British rule, it was a fishing village when our true founding father Sir Stamford Raffles stumbled upon it. Singapore has never been a slump.

it is strange to see many more natives – especially those in their 40S AND ABOVE – made jobless when,at the same time, this govt announces a high double digit GDP growth and reward themselves accordingly.
what is the menaing of high gdp – even if they are real- when many more citizens are getting unemplpoyed?
obviouslt, income gap would widen further if jobless are using their meagre savings for basic needs whilst our ministers keep upping their already sky-high salaries.
it does not take much for a scholar from the dept of statistics (DOS)to demonstrate this HARD TRUTH,if only the DOS would be honest enough to do so???
the HARD TRUTH is that MERITOCRACY as practised by the MIWs is in reality NO MERITICRACY at all!
firstly, many ministers and top officers/CEOs from govt OR GLCs COMMIT SERIOUS MISTAKES that more common lesser mortals would never dare dream of committing but are SPARED ‘VERY GRACIOUSLY’.
SECONDLY,most of the socalled FTs who took over our natives’ jobs are less than qualified then our own locals and have been of much LOWER PRODUCTIVITY.
SO,you see,my fellow singaporeans,MERITOCRACY is just a FALLACY here.
ps: another HARD TRUTH is that some ministers are promoted after they commit serious mistakes;is this what MERITOCRACY is all about?

This ST letter was published online today. With more foreigners in Singapore, they are asking MediaCorp to have dedicated radio stations for them too. Now, our radio and TV licence fee is also going to support these foreigners so as to ensure that they feel “welcomed”.

Have another radio station for foreign workers
http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/OnlineStory/STIStory_634866.html
THE Government has asked Singaporeans to make foreigners welcome in Singapore, whether they are new citizens, permanent residents, employment pass holders or work permit holders. Similarly, these foreigners are told they must try to integrate with the local citizens and participate in their activities.
The State can facilitate this process. MediaCorp has an expatriate radio station – 96.3X FM – that broadcasts French, Japanese, German, Hindi and Korean programmes. This station caters only to the expat communities in Singapore.
MediaCorp should consider operating another radio station broadcasting in Tagalog, Bengali and Burmese. After all, we do have a sizeable number of workers from the Philippines, Bangladesh and Myanmar.
Besides offering news, music and programmes from their respective home countries, the station could broadcast programmes on safety, health and hygiene issues, as well as on their rights, obligations and duties while in Singapore. In this way, we show that we care not only for high-earning expats but also the immigrant workers in our midst. It will also make the Ministry of Manpower’s job easier in reaching out to these workers.
I am sure many advertisers would also welcome this service as it will enable them to reach their target audiences more effectively.

This mental Mayor who has been brain-washing the populace for 50 years using his media propaganda machine has succeeded in turning about 30% of sinkies into non-thinking zombies.
So when they buy the book they are like drug addicts going to the pusher for another fix.

Is Singapore the only country (depends classified among whom) that requires one to apply for this permit, apply for that permit, apply for More Permits, to do this to do that ??
And ONE more, is it that Singapore school-children are the MOST myopic in the world. I believed it to be true. On a particular radio talk show some years back, one school contractor called into the programe, and highlighted very seriously about the teaching facilites in many classrooms he worked in – he said that the whyte boards ARE USELESS as they are 100% reflective so much so that many students CANNOT see whats written. And further more, it was aggaravated by the lights turned on, WORST. Besdies, naturally light rayed in. And also DON’T forget, Teachers USED marker pens that are hardly left with INK.
Goodness, how come NO ONE took action AND ALLOWED this to happened?? It means teachers, principlas, MoEdn officers ALL are highly IRRESPONSIBLE – and we CAN SAFELY BLAME them on this High Myopic problem of our children (instead of hereditary, as the govt wants to claim to portray so as to escape answering for THEIR PLAIN NEGLIGENCE).
Can add these 2 more hard truths?

hi,there is a bit of truth in what you suggest and that is basically called ‘prime-pumping’.
the HArd TRUTH is that such prime-pumping is only good in the very short-term to inject a slight temporaneous boost but that is all!
WIHTOUT GAINFUL AND MENAINGFUL EMPLPOYMENT for its core citizens,NO ECONOMY can have SUSTAINABLE GROWTH over a menaingful length of time.
EMPLLOYMENT is tied very closely to CONSUMPTION thorugh INCOME.
If there is continued high unemployment, there is not going to be sufficient ‘INCOM’ generated to propel consumption that will lead to longer term economic growths.
so,one of the most sacred duty of any RATIONAL AND WISE govt IS TO create employment and to susutain it unlike our govt which is bent on destroying jobs for its own CORE CITIZENRY.
PS: even if the FTs are paid the same income as what locals get,the HARd truth is that they spend less as they REMIT A BIG PORTION of their income back home.
short-term wise,’CONSUMPTION’ does increase but over the long-run,when jobless citizens have expended their savings,CONSUMPTION will likely fall.

BY THE APPLICATION OF JUDICIAL PRINCIPLE OF LEGISLATIVE INTENT, allowing “parents-in-in-Singapore” PR to buy HDB’s public housing is UNLAWFUL.
The HARD TRUTH is why they allowed and QUIETLY facilitate legal transfer of such “UNLAWFUL TRANSACTIONS’ in the first place has never been explained publicly prior.
Such distortions disrupted the efficient functioning of public housing program as mandated by the legislation because speculators can and is alleged officially by a minister to have played up the resale market.
It was TOC which whistle-blown this scandalous situation.

Actually I am not suprised and that the sales was exceptional. Some could already see the value of the book being a collectors’ item in time to come with all the controversies it had raised. I suppose some flawed currency notes and postage stamps which had escaped the scrutiny of their producers also could have higher value than their intended face value. So, number of books sold is just that – a number. Perhaps if there were to be a reprint of Hitler’s ‘Mein Kampf’, it too could be a sell out today.

NO MATTER HOW THE ECONOMY IS PUMPED UP by digging into reeserves (like 2009/2010) or bond borrowings (QE 2) the uplift in GDP growth must create some emmployment and INCOME GROWTH ’substantiating” the GDP growth statistics proudly puiblished.
My point is 14.5% GDP growth generate only 0.2% household income growth on the average? WHERE DID ALL THOSE INCOME FROM EMPLOYMENT WHICH THE GDP GROWTH GENERATE OR OUGHT TO GENERATE?
Where did the LEAKAGE go??
Or was it inefficient use of resources and inefficient application of productive capacity using foreign workers to generate 14.5% GDP growth?
If you digged into reserves or engaged in bond borrowing to invest in GDP growth and yield such low rate of return for household income gain, why bother to slog for so little for so much efforts and energy employed – not forgeting the wastage through inefficiencies and appalling productivity while congesting this country with 6.5 million people with all those dire social-economic consequences??
Isn’t that COMPELLING PROOF of the UNSUSTAINABILITY AND COMPLETE FAILURES of this eat-and-shit economy and more of the same??
Can you fathom how disastrous the outcome is -looking at the statistics on gains on household income in 2010. There would be anything from 2% to 5 % increase in the number of total employment and hence ( all things being equal) it should generate 2% to 5% gain respectively in aggregate household income right??
Yet the household income, on an average and despite higher number of workers employed could only demonstrate a bikini-naked gain of 0.2% advance in household income.
THE HARD TRUTH IS THAT IT IS APPALLING PERFORMANCE OF ECONOMIC MANAGEMENT and it is bragged as though it is such an outstanding achievement of 3.1% gain in household income.
WHAT A DUD OF FAILURE lied as a HARD TRUTH progress of this nation?? WHOSE FINANCIAL POCKET AND BANK ACCOUNT GOT ENRICHED???

Totally agreeing with your explanation, a possible scenario & good plausibility though we never know for sure unless we have full information (will we ever have & get one ?).
I was highlighting the possible mirage on this gdp-growth thingy with my examples.
It could be a case of lower baseline (denominator) or higher population base (locals + floodgate of foreigners) contributing to overall gdp growth (but may result in stagnant or lower / not as high per capital growth / income) – hence the comment of fewer foreigners, slower growth. Well, we do have our own inkling (you may even say it is a strong one).

You must have been indoctrinated by the BTN!
Since when did the Christo-Romano alphabet (Nusantara) creep in? The Malays (without a written form of writing (unlike the Indian and Chinese 5000 years of civilisation) borrowed it in the 20th century! Before that and now they still use the Arabic jawi script.
“ships” You mean “gayong sampan”/ Since when the Malys have ships when the navigational compass was invented by China and Admiral Cheng Ho sailed into Nanyang (Nusantara?). In the Chinese historical records, Parameswara (the interloping Indian Hindu Prince from Palembang who founded Malacca) had to hitch a ride in Cheng Ho’ ship to go kowtow and ask for Emperor Yongle’s approval to govern Melaka (Melaka then was a Chinese vassal state and protectorate). Don’t believe me. Check it out in the internet.
As for the rest read John Doe’s revelation slowly and objectively. The scholar’s writings are corroborated with glossary and authentic proofs not hear-say and wishy-washy backing like the BTN.
What sampah (rubbish)?
This is not BTN (Malaysia’s indoctrination course for Malays)
I found the URL posted and I read it carefully. It makes lots of sense. Don’t believe the scholar John Doe but you process the facts he gave which are always backed by logic and proofs.
We dare you to read like a scholar as well and examine its credibility and validity and then put the tail between your legs and go back to where you berasal (originate) – Java, Sulewesi, Aceh, etc.

BOTH COMPARATIVE STATISTICS HAS THE SAME COMPARISON BASE OF LOW 2009. So higher GDP comes with higher employment level but averge household income grew by only 0.2% and GDP by 14.5%
The GDP is like a mug of drink with a hole at the bottom – the gain in employment must be foreigners who do not consitute “households”, remit their earnings abroad and locals were left counting lampost on the street looking for “recovery growth” jobs ( hard lies told as HARD TRUTHS AGAIN). Part of the GDP gain comes from transfer payment from COE, ERP to Government sector GDP gain and tax on corporate profits, GST (consumption)
BOTTOMLINE IS EAT-AND-SHIT ECONOMY benefiting foreigners mainly of very low productivity, gambling tax from casino and hidden profits from HDB housing sales – ALL OF THAT IS UNSUSTAINABLE. How long can the population eat-and-shit with dwindling income base?????
That is why we need to change our development model and the change political landscape to stimulate and encourage change by a strong opposition to shake up complacency in moving towards new direction. The sleeping-in-parliament multi-million paid siesta, deaf frogs- croaking and the political sex of political correctness of bullshitting Singaporeans from the ivory tower is the sure route to national economic collapse and end of this nation’s survival.
Any Govcernment THAT IS FEARFUL OF CROSS-EXAMINATION AND SCRUTINY BY A RIGOROUS OPPOSITION IN AND OUT OF PARLIAMENT IS A GOVERNMENT WE DON’T WANT AND A GOVERNMENT WE WOULD PREFER TO DO WITHOUT. Why? they serves only self-interest and corruption of public institutions.

ANY GOVERNMENT WHO SET OUT TO “FIX” THE OPPOSITION MUST BE “FIXED” BY RESPONSIBLE CITIZENRY IN THE ELECTION. We don’t want any Government, whoever they are the incumbent, who spend time, energy, focus and public resources “fixing” political opponents instead of FIXING the country’s urgent social and economic challenges.
If ever the business of Government is fixing the opposition we can pay goons a lot cheaper and faster to efficiently fix these “unwanted” opposition without going through the hassles of an election.
This country needs solution finders, not confrontational ‘fixers” for its national survival and well-being of the future.

And lky compensated James Fu and then roped in his then obedient enlightened daughter Grace Fu too! As a show of his “magnanimity”?

Dear Dr. Foo Loon Sung you forget something we are the only country where the minister called their citizen daft, and lazy…hold people hard earning savings….have ministers whom raised their pay but advise the Singaporeans to earn less to compete with all kinds of foreigners and not forgetting the holy son and father is above the law and the others are lesser mortals and i rest my case.

What this means is that lky in his son as pm & pap actually split higher paying Singaporeans’ jobs into two jobs at like 40-60% pay and tell us that they bring foreign workers to “create”jobs for us! What and outrages lie when they do it for lowering their CS, GLCs & Agencies total pay costs at OUR expense!!!
Indeed we “are” daft to know lky’s bluff gib time! His son was just mouthing him yah! As how can he say of his father’s 24/7 position as his “Mentor Minister” stuff in his latest Hard Truths book as personal comments & opinion??? It is another LIE to cover up and fool those nerds and lower mentality Singaporeans and FTs/FWs ain’t it! So much for self-claimed talent. A true talent is for qualied people to say so and NOT for self to right?

You seem like a genuine guy. Can I give you some advice? There are many who made it good without a degree. Since you lack the qualification, you now have to depend on your wits. Always stay focus. If you are a cook, aim to own a restaurant. If you are a mechanic, aim to own a workshop. Sure, there will be obstacles. Who doesn’t have. The human spirit is designed to overcome any challenges. Provided you always embrace a positive attitude. Never blame your surroundings or the govt. Rather, look at how you can improve yourself and your thinking. You will get there one day. Good luck!

Talking about cross examination and scrutiny by a rigorous opposition (which is basically good), what do you think the IB and lapping dogs are here for ? Hahahahahahahaha.
