Privy Purse to increase by 26% or $890,700
The President of Singapore will enjoy a 26% increase in salary for the fiscal year of 2011.
The Privy Purse (or President’s salary), is now set at S$4,267,500, up from $3,376,800, a hefty jump of 26% or double the percentage increase of the financial assistance package for the poor, which was recently adjusted from $360 to $400 per month.
The President’s entertainment allowance remains at $73,000.
The amount for Presidential staff salaries is also increased to $4,532,400 or $473,600 higher than that of the year before.
The revision is part of an overall increase in the manpower expenditure for the Office of the Istana, which is staffed by 62 personnel.
Proposing the change in Parliament, Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam said this caters for the “recruitment of an additional staff officer to support the work of the Council of Presidential Advisers and a butler manager to meet increased demand for butler services at the Istana, and to meet the higher variable payments on account of a strong economic growth”.
The President’s salary rises in tandem with that of political, judicial and civil service appointment holders.
However, the expenditure for Istana expenses was cut by $25,300 to $2,068,300 to “reflect savings” on these and other ad hoc spending, said Mr Tharman. The total sum allocated for the Civil List is $11.6 million.
Note: What he did not say is that the original 2010 figure was $10,354,700. Why and when was the number “revised” by $1,250,300 to $11,605,000? Just in time for the 2011 budget?
For the next financial year, Mr Tharman said this overall sum will remain unchanged, but the allocation for the President’s salary and allowances will drop to $3,782,000 due to lower variable payments anticipated.
An extra $610,000 will be set aside for the Presidential Swearing-in Ceremony which is likely to be in late August.
Parliament has approved the increase.

This is bullshit & arrogance of the PAP. You mean a rubber stamp of the PAP govt. cost that much?
Hey arse hole Tharman- your masters & you planned to increase that much? While poor Singaporeans dont even get that much increment.
We can read through your lips that next comes the salary increments of all PAP Ministers,Parl.secretary & those who sucks for lKY/LHL/GCT including Shanmugam & you.
You all are going to give up your comfy seats to others soon & we have anticipated fucking PAP will be on the next plane out.
Hey you pariah Nathan please do something good before you die, at least for your kids & grand kids.
Hello fellow S’poreans what choice do we have but to reject PAP & their stooges out right who is going to appoint another puppet or rubber Stamp as President.
Where on earth do we find this typr of arrogant govt–only in 3rd world.
If they get into power PAP will say even with unpopular decision still singaporean voted them to power.

Can anyone confirm this ?
If he is a Malaysian Cheena, that explains why he worked for Japanese in WW2, against Muslims, allow LHL to marry his 2 Malaysian Cheena wives, allow so many Malaysian Cheena Ministers and MPs in his cabinet, allow this Malaysian Indian to be President, allow influx of foreigners especially Malaysian Cheenas in Singapore. All these act against the Natives interests !
Why do we want a FOREIGNER LKY to rule us Native Singaporeans ?

“Government salaries are pegged to the private sector so someone out there is making that much money.”
Someone (private sector) is making that much money is because he is creative / efficient enough in having a viable business model (or skillset for employees) to excel despite having to pay the high cost of operation (manpower, rental, competition from others, licenses, tax, etc, etc).
Garment salaries (higher mortar balls) are just PEGGED (some expedient advantage) to only those from top successful private sector players (not those who may fail badly perhaps even losing their own savings).
“I wonder what the toilet cleaners think of YOUR salary.”
Didn’t people ask for the implementation the minimum wage for those workers in the lower value chain (e.g toilet cleaners, etc).
The problem with the high garment mortar balls is that their min wage is pegged to the higher base (not minimum base) of those private sectors.

Half a million for performing your normal duties. (typical market rate)
3.5 millions as ‘legal bribes’ for supporting the Lee Dynasty.
Like the typical Dynasty in ancient China, high officials were paid ‘legal bribes’ to support and kowtow the Emperor, even if the emperor is a sex manic or 6 years old child.
That old asshole cunning use the technique from ancient China, to ensure that all his high ranking officials are paid ‘legally bribes’ to support his homo son as Emperor of the Lee Dynasty.

Please forward this Email
Minister = ⁿ √ ∑∞ eviℓ
Proof of Having highly pay minister will lead to more corruption
First Minister needs money and time
Therefore:
Minister = Time x Money
We also know that time is equal to Money
Time = $
Equate to:
Minister = Time x Money
Minister = (Time = $) x Money
Minister = Money x Money
Minister = Money²
Current PM pay – 3.8Mill
The median Income – 2.4k
Ratio – 3.8milli / 2.4K = 1583
In term of work year = 1625 / 12 = 132yrs
Hence ,1 yr of Prime Minister pay is Equivalent to 132yr of the median Income aka Average Joe salaries
Also Equal in term of time as accordance to Average Joe median Wages
Minister = Time x Money
Minister = Time x Time
Minister = Time²
Minister = 132yr²
Minister = 17424 years
As we know – Money is the root of all Evil
$= ⁿ √ ∑∞ eviℓ
Therefore:
Minister = ⁿ √ ∑∞ eviℓ
And we can conclude
Minister =Evil
By removing the Root and Square
Hence to be less corrupt they need more money
Less corrupt = More Money = More Evil

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S_R_Nathan#Early_life
Early life
Nathan is a Singaporean of Tamil descent; his childhood was spent with his three older sisters and parents, V. Sellapan and Apiram, in Muar, Johor, in a house overlooking the sea. His father had been posted to the Malayan town as a lawyer’s clerk for a firm that serviced rubber plantations, but the Great Depression and rubber slump of the 1930s sent the family’s fortunes crashing. Nathan’s father accrued debts and, eventually, lost his job. Which there for the family lost money and they had to find his father a new job.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S_R_Nathan#Early_life
By then, the young Nathan had returned to his birthplace, Singapore, to live, and received his primary and earlier education in Anglo-Chinese Primary School in Singapore as well as the Rangoon Road Afternoon School, and his secondary/senior high school education at Victoria School. He started working before completing his studies.
During the Japanese Occupation of Singapore, Nathan worked for the Japanese civilian police as a translator.[2] After the war, whilst working, he completed his secondary education through self-study, and entered the University of Malaya (then in Singapore) where he graduated in 1954 with a Diploma in Social Studies (Distinction).

An increase of $890,700 for the President . Why the President never voice up against it ? Don’t he knows that before the increase, he has already over $3.5 million dollars of superhigh salary . Singaporeans will have to be taxed more again to pay this increase . So this shows us that there will be a likely rise in GST or rise in other taxes in the near future. what is inflation?
inflation is something that, in singapore, is higher than that of China or USA or Japan.
inflation means the hard earned money you have is gradually becoming worthless by more than 5% a year. soon it will be nearly entirely worthless.
how does the government protect against inflation?
by raising ministers salaries, the ministers still get to buy a lot of good things with their money.
how do you protect against inflation?
perhaps you can try stopping the people generating this inflation.

Isn’t it strange – he alone gets 26% or 890,700 pay increase whilst his staff gets a mere 10% or 473,600 increment. So much for staff welfare. This increment for the president does not into account the bonus that he gets – eg i believe 8 months.???

Recall some time back when Parliament convened to raise the financial package assistance for the poor it took a looooooong time debating by the MPs for a mere $30 increment.
But this President’s huge increment passed thru without debate because of interested parties transaction ie Ministers and MPs are getting just as huge increment soon; and they forgot that those money comes from you and me, taxpayers who are voters and Singaporeans! During the so-called President’s Challenge for Charity the President needs not have any challenge at all; no need to come out any money, instead enjoy free show and dance with the general public donating plus the donors got to pay tax by way of GST! Any our President are basically not elected by selected; because even the high ranking wants to run dare not do so unless selected by the LEEdership! Let’s face it; if a Chinese were to be selected to run this President 100% Nanthan will be knocked out as it is impossible to have a majority Chinese to vote for another race, even for the post of Prime Minister! This is a fact which cannot be denied even
Singapore has meritocracy. Kulit-fication(Malay word for skin} counts just like blood is thicker than water!

These “public servants” keep encouraging charity events for people to donate more and more money to help the needy, but they are not leading by example. With thousands of people living from hand to mouth in singapore, every minister should be paid only a token sum instead of exorbitant salaries benchmarked to the private sector. Remember one thing, their salaries come from the tax paying public not through business run by a private enterprise. To be paid 10 times obama’s salary for being a million times less effecient as obama is simply ridiculous. I think he should just retire and sell prata as the millions paid to him can be better used to buy dialysis machines for kidney patients or pumped into some cancer research. I hope that the opposition can rise up and take the lead, i will speak with my vote on election day….

We need to start by sending emails or involve in the RC’s activities whether you like it or more.
We need to be more involved rather than just writing and penning our thoughts only.

What we can do is also join the application process. All Sinkapooreans should obtain application forms to apply for President, because we all qualify. Most of us can nod our heads, shake hands. The world will get to hear how 5,000 Sinkapooreans queued up to apply to be their country’s president. to be fair to the president, he did not ask for the increment – the person we should be addressing this to is the finance minister tharman n the cabinet.on what basis did he n his team feels the need to increase the president’s salary ?? as it is, our president/ministers are the HIGHEST PAID in the WORLD.salary adjustment for them ( especially upward ) should not be in the equation. if these people feels that they can get a better salary in the private sector, i suggest they resign and go work in the private sector and not participate in the next election. i used to think the world of pap but of late, i have learned to respect the opposition – knowing that by being an opposition their journey will be an uphill task and yet they took the challenge because they believe they could make a difference AND that is a true definition of a SINGAPOREAN !

Did the MCYS increase /provide in their budget the recruitment of an addtional staff officer to support the work of the social workers and a manager to support the social workers and to meet the higher variable payments of the social workers, who work quietly and without recognition.
Quote:
Proposing the change in Parliament, Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam said this caters for the “recruitment of an additional staff officer to support the work of the Council of Presidential Advisers and a butler manager to meet increased demand for butler services at the Istana, and to meet the higher variable payments on account of a strong economic growth”.

1. Guys Guys Guys! And do you remember that they even have a the only Supreme Labour chief who doubles up as PMO Ministir without portfolio to tell US SINGAPOREANS that “We are DEAF TO CRITICISMS”! Plus also “NO to minimum wage”! meaning it is OKAY for them have MAXIMUM-WAGE.
2. MUCH like brand “MAXI-CASH PAWSHOPS” that sprouted up in Singaporean with >20 shops in the last couple of years by Lee Wah Jewellery. It is as I heard from traditional pawnshops people I know. BIG FISH eat small fish as Hairy Lee once said decades ago!!!
3. And with poorer and poor native Singaporeans running out of even marriage & milestone occasion’s jewellery to pawn, many were not able to redeem their precious jewellery due to poverty. So the latest I saw and enquired, learned that MAXI-CASH Pawnshops are offering 1% “a month interest”? But it is actually a tongue in cheek for the first month only as it reverts to the standard 1.5% per month for the remaining 1 months. This is annual interest of 17.5% against the regular 18% rate!So savings is only 0.5% under the guise of 1% monthly or 12% annually in stead of the regular annual 18% interesr! IS THIS Hairy personality culture personified even into the market place or not?

These majority owners of that company did not agree to that pay but they take it anyway, regardless, having made sure that these majority owners cannot challenge them. So they simply take it at ‘gun-point’ (through intimidation of anyone who challenge them).

The very reliable leaked news is Lee Kwan Yew will be the next President.
The Presidential election is due this coming August 2011.
The increment is not meant for Nathan but for Lee Kwan Yew.
Just watch this coming GE for announcement of Lee Kwan Yew stepping down as MM.
Then you can understand the ploy for his new position and increment of salary.
Basically, the salary is self corruption using public fund.

Whatever beef you might have with Nathan I don’t think there’s any reason for so many of you to use racially offensive language like “prataman” and make so many references to Indian food.
What does this salary increment have to do with Nathan’s race? Are you implying that his ‘uselessness’ is somehow linked with him being Indian and therefore his inability to do anything worthwhile except make prata? Or are you implying that Indians can only be prata-sellers so there is no prestige in having an Indian as president?
Imagine being a minority Chinese person in a white-dominated country and an un-liked Chinese politician starts being called ” Coolie” or “Chinaman” how would you feel? Great job alienating all the Indians who probably share the same views as you about the salary increment.
