Is China flexing its muscles against Singapore?

It was just a matter of time for the precarious honeymoon between China and Singapore to come to a head. It was done by China with such finesse that it came as a severe jolt to the disoriented PAP leadership, especially the day-dreaming PM Lee Hsien Loong. It was the Hong Kong Customs, no doubt under instructions from China, which detained nine Singapore-bound Terrex Infantry Carrier Vehicles although the Japanese-owned container ship APL which carried the armoured vehicles had passed through a Chinese province earlier. It was a shrewd Chinese move to avoid direct intricate dealing with Singapore which has willy nilly to deal with a less authoritative and unenthusiastic Hong Kong. The ostensible reason for detaining the armoured vehicles was that they were suspected to carry ammunition and sensitive equipment and the ship’s cargo manifest was not in order. This has become a complex problem and may need a infinite time frame to be resolved, provided it gets the condescending consent from China.

The China spokesman has finally emerged to castigate Singapore, which is helmed by the jocular PM Lee Hsien Loong, for its role in undermining China’s one China policy on Taiwan. If this is not a direct slap on PM Lee  Hsien Loong, then PM Lee will still be under the illusion that he is still the errand boy for President Xi JinPing. The nauseating antics of PM Lee in ingratiating with US President Barrack Obama have not gone unnoticed by the astute China President Xi who viewed them with humour and patience waiting for the day to teach this monkey a lesson.

It will be an interesting exercise to guage the reaction of Singaporeans, especially the ethnic Chinese, to the show of animosity by China towards Singapore by detaining the nine armoured vehicles in Hong Kong and the timing for this so-called show down. Will it be reasonable to say that the Chinese Singaporeans are first taken aback, like the rest of Singaporeans, but think that China is right in jolting the PAP day-dreamers, especially the US-inclined PM Lee, from their fantasy of bringing Singapore dangerously close to the US axis? They could not have been oblivious to the antics of PM Lee in usurping the role of the Chairman of the APEC meeting in Peru in his desperation of a last-ditch effort in salvaging the pro-US Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) to the amusement of President Xi of China.

If the day-dreaming PM Lee Hsien Loong has not learned a lesson from the armoured vehicles detention in Hong Kong and persists in his antics of ingratiating himself with the US at the expense of China, the day will come when an exasperated President Xi will candidly say “enough is enough”.

  • SG badly needs a reboot:

Landslide victory and successful witch hunt of oppositions and changing constitution as and when made him lost his mind, he thinks he is now a global player on par with these super power.

China one move already make him feel like a clown.

With China working so closely with ASEAN without SG, we are going to suffer. They are already digging up the canal, setting up the new port and bayside condos, they will be successful, unlike before. The reason is Chinese is throwing money and manpower to ensure lazy ASEAN cant fail.

These clowns are only focus on changing policies and milking max benefits from locals and witch hunt WP. Singapore with clownish leader and astronomically paid cabinet of fools have forgot to focus on foreign affairs that eventually will impact the economy of Singapore.

What a major blunder leading to Singapore under seized from every corner.

The seizure of 9 Terrex ICVs by China was done with military precision. It looked like a successful Chinese ambush carried out against Singapore. Only 0.1% of Chinese muscles was flexed. PM Lee was given only a tiny taste of Chinese might; enough to make PM Lee blinked and realised that politics is war without bloodshed while war is politics with bloodshed.

Seeing how many times a tiny island ministers are earning compared to other big countries leaders, (even greenhorn ministers like Ng CM and Ong YK also draw salaries much more than the US’s president) I bet many of the world leaders just can’t wait to expose the incompetencies of the pap Monkeys In White.

Many big countries already can see that the present sg is no more the same sg of yesteryears and with the passing of lky, many already have little respect for sg especially when it’s being led by a clueless and HopeLess LEEder. Only daft singaporeans still think pap is the best and no one can replace them.

Heaven has eyes. Heaven is not blind. GE2015 should have seen many of the miw being kicked out of parliament but heaven want the world and especially daft singaporeans to see how horrible and terrible those elite papies are. And so they won and stayed so that their incompetencies would be exposed and they’ll be kicked out in shame!

PAP is well known to use the law to win it battles. Their deafening silence of not prosecuting the HK officials goes to show, neither Beijing nor Hong Kong did anything illegal. And they had to fly off their MINDEF officials, in person, to go to Hong Kong, show their humiliated faces, to sign ownership and take back their properties by hand.

This is just a small gesture towards Singapore that China know the law very well too. Nothing to bring Big Brother into the squabble. But just enough to tell Singapore that China is watching and keeping tabs closely.

Blaming the Singapore Government is a strange response.

PRC has long known about these SAF exercises in Taiwan. It isn’t any secret.

And in all likelihood these equipment have probably been trans-shipped via Hong Kong port. The Hong Kong Government is unlikely to have any interest in this issue. And it is likely the Hong Kong Government is merely executing the orders of the PRC Central Government. So much for HK Government having any say in its destiny.

How is it Singaporeans can think of blaming our Government when it is so obvious the PRC Government is just playing big bad and unethical bully and just choosing to pick on us on this matter?

The response of some netizens is just ridiculous.

Does MINDEF under the rules of shipping custom procedures when does the carrier ever carry the responsibility to preparing the cargo manifest and declaration to the customs, it is the responsibility of the shipper to prepare for the declaration and all paperwork prior to shipping, in this case when things goes wrong, u shouldn’t blame APL as they are not paid to do your declaration but rather the shipper responsibility to seek clearance from all possible countries of transit, if you are not prepared to go thru the custom then shipped direct via Taiwan to SIN, if not get navy boats to go sail from Taiwan to SIN. Now when things go haywire, start to blame commercialization, if this is the cost saving model-outsourcing you are talking about, then prepared to take the risk!!! this is the commercial world of shipping, not your own rules of engagement!!!

Good questions asked ? who are the kong mings of Spore ?
Possible ruminations by LHL now :-
should it not be our capable Ng Eng Hen who has remained very silent over the incident unlike his usual bustling all sound signifying nothing. Or is he a misfit ex surgeon like a fish out of water, unable to exercise his productivity as his many scholarlistic generals ( still earching for answers in army manuals in their ipads ) cant handle basic military transportation during peace time.
NB : maybe the PM should just get Lui Tuck Yew back, the Chinese probably appreciate at least a decent and honest guy , at the very least being a ex-Rear Ad he will know better than using APL for sensitive military transfer on the sea than that NEH doc.
Shd it be that great chinese advisor – the imicable WKS named Spore China advisor to PM
We guessed his answer wd be the Terrexes are in Singapore if not out of Singapore!
If we sent VB who walked out of meeting ( u dont do that even doing a debate too ), I guess we will anger the chinese more. His role as a foreign minister with one of world power we guessed is kapo as the chinese dont forget insults.
Guess Khaw will not do as well as he must have given the chinese hell over the cracked trains recently ie what he should be doing as a Minister who had even ordered the future trains for the new lines before the lines are ready.
Any clowns from the public school of policies like kisore ,etc wont do either as they are probably too busy back tracking from the bumbling advices given on the US election favouring Clinton and bumping off Trump. Scores still to be settled for giving and remaining silent and yesman to my dangerous overtures to sucking up Obama and its damned TPP.
Problem with Tharman -if sucessful may turn out too popular for PM’s own good in future election.
what about the newbies – Ong Ye kung, Lawrence , Chan – untested and their so highpays have probably swelled their arrogance. When meeting Yih and the chinese foreign minister ,who are old timers with pay less than their secretaries ,will treated with disdain like the old foggies in Singapore.

In conclusion, with all these options his chance better to summon old papa by seance for advice – probably kena scolding for mess , hope LKY had already garnered the old team of Goh KS , Raja and Toh for some good suggestions.

For an ex-Director of ISD, Mr. Yoong Siew Wah’s geo-political reading is abysmally shallow. What he wants Singapore to do? Kow tow to China and become its vassal state? This runs against the grain of thinking of our pioneer leaders which was to be neither pro or anti China in the backdrop of we being in the midst of the Malay Archipelago.

We have decades of economic dealings with the US and EU which go by the letter of law and agreements as well as the mechanisms to resolve disputes through arbitration. China is relatively a new comer in this respect. It has poured billions of dollars in Asean and African countries in infrastructure and other development projects. The pay-back time for the recipient countries may stretch for years ahead and where disputes arise over time, whether China will demand its pound of flesh or will be prepared for third-party arbitration is a matter to be seen yet. As it is, China has already rejected Philippines’s action in referring its dispute with China over South China Sea for arbitration to the Permanent Court of Arbitration at the Hague, stating that it will not participate in the proceedings

The last I know, APL is French owned.( CGM-CMA) It was part of our NOL for a long time before the leedership decided to ditch the bleeding strategic carrier.

Nonetheless, this episode so far had two Ministers coming out to announce to the World that Operation Starlight was no hush-hush affairs. The PRC had been nice not to harp on this even after Singapore switched official recognition of Taiwan to The PRC.

As to that ” normal ” use of commercial carriers, why do we not use our new LSTs? Did anyone in MINDEF knew about that APL Qatar V.041 round trips from Kaohsiung to Xiamen then Hong Kong etc beforehand?
