15 PAP Town Councils to increase S&CC charges for homeowners, commercial property owners and hawkers
Despite feedback that the costs of living are too high during the 2017 Budget via the government’s, residents in 15 PAP Town Councils wards will now have to pay an increase in their monthly service and conservancy charges (S&CC).
The first increase will kick in on 1 Jun 2017 and prices will range from between $0.50 and $9 a month while a second increase will take effect from 1 June 2018, where the increases will be between $0.50 to S$8.
A Press Release on Friday (17 Feb) said that the increases in cost will be necessary to keep up with cleaning costs and to go to the Lift Enhancement Programme (LEP).
Commercial property owners and market and food stall vendors will see increases too.
Commercial property owners and tenants will also see an increase ranging from $0.09 to $0.27 cents per square meter per month. The second increase will be from $0.05 cents to $0.21.
For market and food stall vendors, the increase will be between S$2.70 and S$23 per month while the second stage will see increases between S$2.50 and S$17.50.
Interestingly, financial expert Leong Sze Hian had correctly predicted on 2 Feb that service charges would increase despite an increase in government grants as a result of having to set aside the minimum of 14% to he sinking fund for lifts.
He has also questioned, “why not use the as I understand it – $150 million a year to fund lifts, so that S & C C may not need to be increased?”
