What the cybenuts don’t tell us about the F-35/ What about F-22?

This piece https://www.quora.com/What-would-happen-if-the-F-22-were-to-go-up-against-the-F-15 ( Answer: Like killing baby seals) reminded me that a few months ago the cybernuts were KPKBing about S’pore’s “decision” to buy the F-35.

The cybernuts bitched about this plane that S’pore is supposedly interested in buying. They KPKB about the price of close to US$100m a plane, cost over-runs and teething problems. Their day was made recently when president-elect Donald Trump tweeted “The F-35 program and cost is out of control. Billions of dollars can and will be saved on military (and other) purchases after January 20th,” causing shares of its manufacturer, Lockheed Martin, to fall.

What they don’t tell us is that the Israelis think it’s a game-changer:

That Trumpian indignation was not shared by Israeli dignitaries at Nevatim. For many days Israeli media and the government alike have been stoking excitement at the imminent arrival of the F-35, known in Israel as the Adir, or “mighty one”. Newspapers have suggested that its range and stealthy design make it a potent weapon should Israel feel the need to strike Iran, for instance in a pre-emptive strike against a nuclear weapons programme. The Jerusalem Post put the arrival of the fighters on its front page, and quoted the commander of the squadron, identified only as Lieutenant Colonel Yotam, saying that the planes were bought “in order to attack places that we are not always able to attack.” The Post added that Israeli Air Force (IAF) pilots had volunteered in interviews in recent weeks that those places include Iran, and noted that the low radar signature of the plane should allow it to evade sophisticated Russian made surface-to-air missile batteries in such countries as Syria and Iran. Some in Israel note that it might rather suit America to learn how the plane copes with Russian missile systems deployed in Syria.

As I’ve always said, the PAP is really lucky in people who hate it.

Seriously, what really puzzles me is why don’t we buy the F-22 given that it’s miles ahead of anything the neignbours have or will have: don’t see US selling F-35s to our neighbours. And they’ll be cheaper as the F-35s replace the F-22s in the US armoury.

    @ CI

    You’re a bloody idiot.

Do you really think our neighbours give a rat’s as$ about the weapons we purchase?

They probably have something better but choose not to talk about it online.

You’re as dumb as your white paymasters.

Stop stirring shi$ and focus on issues that matter to the people like the rising cost of living.

Costs increase but wages remain stagnant.

What are your bosses doing about this?

Again, your point? If it’s to insinuate critiques of the Singapore government’s extravagant purchase of the F-35s were wrong because “even Israel is buying them”, know that threats to Israel is very real and present. Singapore is not in the same situation (unless of course our PM go around and talk nonsense again).

If your point is that critiques of PAP are nuts, then you are no different because you sure hang around the cyber sphere a lot, constantly pushing out meaningless article after article many of which make little sense or are quite pointless.

Before you call other cybernuts, take a piss and look at your reflection.

  • The Other Hard Truths:

    Hi Cynical Investor,

The F-22 is far superior to the F-35 and in fact any other fighter in the world today, in every aspect, viz., radar signature, weapons load, agility, speed, etc. Because it is so deadly, the US will not sell the F22 to anyone else, in case it falls into the wrong hands.

Instead it is offering the much watered-down F-35, which has many shortcomings that result from a “one-size-fits-all” philosophy. A huge % of its cost overrun comes from the efforts to create the Vertical-Takeoff version for the US Marines, whose basic design premise is seriously-flawed and much inferior to the 50-year old British Harrier. This cost overrun had to be amortised into the main program and thus each piece of the F35 variant had to be priced much higher (regardless whether that variant has the VTOL capability).

Lockheed is a techno genius throughout US aviation history, but it is equally notorious as being the company which deploys bribery on a large-scale to get customers. In the 1970s, the Japanese Prime Minister, Tanaka, was charged with accepting bribes from Lockheed in the sale of the L-1011 Tristar airliners to ANA.

It has also been rumored that the stealth coating on the F-35 is actually afraid of rain…meaning that it can only fight in clear skies. A fair-weather friend, you may want to call it.

Why Singapore needs the F-35 is mind-boggling. I think it is more of a decision based on politics, rather than on defense philosophy or strategy. For one thing, a massive purchase of say 50 F-35s would effectively and stealthily (pun intended) cause the USA to look the other way when confronted with violations of human rights and democratic principles in Singapore.

Not all fighters have the same role.
    https://www.quora.com/What-are-the-different-categories-of-fighter-aircraft-according-to-their-role
The F-22 is an Air Superiority fighter.
The F-35 is a Multi-Role fighter which usually means it can be outfitted for various roles e.g.Ground Attack.
    from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_Martin_F-35_Lightning_II
“The design goals call for the F-35 to be the premier strike aircraft through 2040 and to be second only to the F-22 Raptor in air supremacy”

    https://www.quora.com/Will-the-United-States-Air-Force-ever-sell-the-F-22-Raptor-to-foreign-countries
Will the United States Air Force ever sell the F-22 Raptor to foreign countries?
“No but it came pretty close to.

Probably the country that was closest to actually buying it, and that the US would be willing to sell it was little old Australia. Japan was certainly interested, as were other countries, but putting money on the table, Australia was the front runner.”

Uncle Sam luvs SG’s ass-kissing Pavlovian behaviour when dangled the latest cutting edge weapons. Knowing we are awash with revenue squeezed from our daft taxpayers, the US industrial military complex is milking our defence budget for all its worth but carefully holding back the top of the line versions for itself.

In addition to the obvious reasons, they must be wary of our schizophrenic relationship with China to whom weapons secret leaks would be a godsend for the PRC’s fledging arm forces upgrading programme in the face of US sabre-rattling at their doorstep.

Aiyoh Cynical, you keep showing us all time and time again just how daft you can be. You wonder why PAP does not buy the F-22 is it? No other country other than America has it you know why?

I know you like to show people just how dumb they look when they b*t*h about something but please lah, do some research on whatever you want to write before you actually write it can or not? At least it won’t make you look so gong and give the cyber nutters ammunition to shoot you time and again.
