AFF contradicts FAS’s statement on $500k donation

The Asean Football Federation (AFF) has issued a statement on Monday (17 Apr) clarifying that the $500,000 donation it received was from the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) and not from Bill Ng.

According to Bill Ng, who is leading a team of opposition leaders to vie for the management of FAS, he donated $500,000 to FAS for the betterment of Singapore football.

Mr Ng claims that former FAS president, Zainudin Nordin, had allowed FAS to channel this donation to a Football Management System to be developed for the AFF.

However, the current management of FAS disputed Mr Ng’s claims and said that Zainudin had asked him to donate the money directly to AFF instead of channeling it through the FAS.

Responding to media queries, the AFF issued a statement clarifying:

PETALING JAYA (17 April 2017) – As a result of various queries from the media on the subject of the FMS, the AFF would like to clarify particularly on the system.

The Asean Football Federation (AFF) Football Management System is an initiative aimed at enhancing the capabilities of football associations and clubs which will then better position them to achieve success in key result areas including but not limited to income generation, information technology, corporate governance, and facilities utilization, among others.

The sharing of resources among football associations in this region will strengthen ongoing efforts aimed at raising the standards of football management in Southeast Asia. We are in the last phase of preparations and we expect to launch the system within the next nine to 12 months.

The AFF Council members were informed at the 3 Council Meeting held on 6 December 2015, that the FA Singapore had donated a sum of SGD500,000 on 4 November 2015 as a payment to develop the System. The Council recorded its thanks and appreciation to FA Singapore for their effort to make the project a reality.

Meanwhile, SportSG has asked the FAS to submit a full report on how the donation was managed and used.

  • HARD TRUTH:

“The general secretary of the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) on Tuesday (Apr 18) produced evidence to show that Tiong Bahru Football Club chairman Bill Ng was aware that his S$500,000 donation was meant for the Asean Football Federation (AFF), and that he had been approached by then-FAS president Zainudin Nordin to make the donation to AFF.

In a statement sent to the media on Tuesday, FAS general secretary Winston Lee said that the allegations by Mr Ng “are all patently false” and invited him to clarify this, and specifically to explain “why he has chosen to present a wholly untrue account of the facts”.”

We need our very own Tengku Mahkota Johor (TMJ) to clean up football in Singapore if there is to be progress. Politics and football must never mix.

Didn’t know that SC Edwin Tong who represented Con Hee of CHC(Con Hee Church) is a member of FAS Council. Stand corrected if he isn’t that said Angel. If current FAS management council and Team Game Changers end up in court over the $500k “donation” or “sponsorship” eventually, it’s will be $$$$ fees for top guns lawyers after the recent CHC court case that reap about $20 millions for them!

Don’t think Bill Ng has lied. As far as he is concern, his money went to FAS.

    The next questions are:-
    1) Did Winston Lee told Bill the money would be for AFF?
    2) If yes, why would Bill not donate directly to AFF?
    3) Or, was it that FAS wants to use his money to score brownie points for the PAP-installed guy?
    4) If Bill was given the impression the money was supposedly for local football development, why would FAS under that PAP-installed guy could channel this precious money for local football development to FMS and use it for foreign organisation, AFF?
    5) If truly the money should be for local football development, means local football fraternity had been had. Aren’t we having the wrong people installed?

In conclusion, no accountability is very dangerous game. It has been run for many years when someone is given too much power, they thought their one hand can cover the sky!

  • What Is So New?:

Public funds used to pay FAS management $$$ pay checks instead of using it to develop local Soccer.
Any wonder Local Football has sunk to the level as that with the 154 ranked Shit Times
These PAPs managed FAS are useless, just interested in enriching
    themselves with their high pay.
How much was spent for the local clubs through the years ??

And while things are being sorted out, it might be an idea
to delve into $1.8 million in fees to the FAS management.

  • John Feng:

Many years ago, there was a natural disaster in one of the neighbouring countries and the government of Singapore made a donation of $50,000. This is just football but the donation is 10 folds. Is this out of proportion, ie people at the top have no feel of priorities that deserve resources first and most.

  • Come out and clarify:

ThatHead of FAS should come out to clarify the whole matter, before it blows out of proportion. His “no comment” stance will not do him any good, unless he is saying that he was the head in name only, and have been doing FO all along, hence don’t ask him anything because he was not involved at all !!!
