PM Lee apologises for famiLEE saga and subjects himself for questioning on 3 July in Parliament

PM Lee Hsien Loong

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has issued a public statement (broadcast) apologising for the famiLEE dispute between him and his siblings, Dr Lee Wei Ling and Mr Lee Hsien Yang.

Additionally, he said that he will make a ministerial statement to refute the allegations made against him and will subject himself for questioning by the Members of Parliament (MP) on 3 July with party whip lifted for his party.

Below is the full statement made by PM Lee

Good evening. Over the last week, Singaporeans have been disturbed and confused by news of the private dispute between my siblings and me. I deeply regret that this dispute has affected Singapore’s reputation and Singaporeans’ confidence in the Government.

As your Prime Minister, I apologise to you for this. And as the eldest of the siblings, it grieves me to think of the anguish that this would have caused our parents if they were still alive.

I had done everything possible to avoid this state of affairs. My father left the property at 38 Oxley Road to me as part of my equal share of his estate, but my siblings were not happy about this. I tried to deal with their unhappiness privately. I offered to transfer 38 Oxley Rd to my sister for a nominal $1. Unfortunately that offer failed. I then sold the house to my brother at a fair market valuation, and donated all my proceeds to charity.

I had hoped that this would satisfy them. There should be no reason for any further quarrel, since I no longer own the house and I do not take part in any Government decisions on the house. However, my siblings have decided to go out and make serious allegations publicly. For example, they say that I am using my position as Prime Minister to influence the Ministerial Committee chaired by DPM Teo Chee Hean. These allegations go beyond private and personal matters, and extend to the conduct of my office and the integrity of the Government.

Much as I would like to move on, and end a most unhappy experience for Singaporeans, these baseless accusations against the Government cannot be left unanswered. They must be and will be dealt with openly and refuted.

When Parliament sits on 3 July 2017, I will make a Ministerial Statement to refute the charges. All MPs will then have the opportunity to raise questions for themselves and their constituents. I have instructed that the PAP party whip be lifted. I urge all MPs, including the non-PAP MPs, to examine the issues thoroughly and question me and my Cabinet colleagues vigorously. I hope that this full, public airing in Parliament will dispel any doubts that have been planted and strengthen confidence in our institutions and our system of government.

I want to assure all Singaporeans that this matter will not distract me and my Cabinet colleagues from our responsibility to govern Singapore, and to deal with more important national issues, including the pressing economic and security challenges we face.

As public servants, my Ministers and I will always protect the integrity of our institutions, and uphold the strict standards separating private affairs from our public duties. We are determined to repair the damage that has been done to Singapore. We will continue to lead our nation and serve you to the best of our ability.

From the way the statement is drafted, the possibility of any form of inquiry has been ruled out, PM Lee has only agreed to be “questioned” by any MP with the PAP’s party whip lifted, implying that PAP MPs may (if they dare) ask any questions relating to the famiLEE feud of him and his cabinet.

Your questions?

What questions, if any, would you like your MP to ask on your behalf on the 3rd of July?

Please share with us.

  • Amos humiliate L*L and PAP:

Why not allow his siblings LSY and LSL to attend to participate. They can clarify their charges and also ask questions.

Who will ask questions? Member of his own party, nominated (useless) MPs, and WP MPs (PAP team B). What a joke!

This is NOT an investigation. This is another PAP wayang.

PAPpys MPs will all sings praises AND/OR DEFEND the “official” position. Only the social media will do the truth talking. Unless there is a public no-hold barred Royal Commission of Inquiry under oath of all participants opened to international media into all aspects of this matter, nothing significant will be unearthed.

Just enough time for any MP to prepare question (if dare) for LHL to reply!! (so that the reply can be prepared before hand). Don’t forget LHL is the only one to answer and not the siblings! So whatever the answer would be taken as the truth.

    Anyway the following questions need some answers;

Did he knew about the Secret Ministerial Committee?

Did Minister Lawrence Wong took an official document for LHL, using his position?

Why Lucien Wong can be AG at age 63, whereas Rajah has to retire at 60?

Did the SG First Lady influenced any civil service?

oh ho..here you go, private matter, apologize and put under the carpet.
There are two questions, I’m not interested in any other questions coz I know all the other questions will have fake answers.

    Two questions:
    1) What will you do if everyday they call you dishonest, using state power, about 1st lady abusing power, about motives of bringing your son to be the PM of Singapore? If all these are false accusations then did they defame you? If yes what will you do now? If not why not?
    2) Will you tell us total how much of entire LKY’s estate is at stake not just the house? You can answer none of your business but well if LKY’s house was considered as of public interest so that a ministerial committee was formed albeit public didn’t know about it, why LKY’s entire estate wouldn’t be of public interest?

There is only one question for PM Lee to answer. He must agree to the Patriach’s wish to have the House at 38 Oxley Road to be demolished. There is no need to beat around the bush and waste everybody’s time. Just answer in the affirmative when the question is posed: Do you agree that the House will be demolished?

If you have so many doubts about the will, then why are you making an offer to sell the house to your sister at nominal S$1 ? In fact you should not be making any offer at all until the validity of the will is clarified ?

If he is indeed a brother to you, why do you insist on selling your house to your brother at MARKET VALUE but still insist on your brother to donate half to charity ?

ALSO MEMBERS IN THE CABINET will NOT SLAP their own faces. They had opportunity to speak when the controversy erupted, most Ministers KEPT A STONEWALL SILENCE except two. I have compelling apprehension that the public mind thinks they took side – silently. How can they now grill the leadership trio in Parliament on July 3, 2017 and still seen as credible of neutrality and vigor?

There are already too many WINDY HAPPY CONTRADICTIONS already been aired publicly i.e. this is a private family feud with no national significance to suddenly there is a ministerial committee looking into it and with national heritage significance in MUTUAL CONTRADICTION.

There is even suggestion of confrontational hostility (old habits) from officialdom in some quarter’s public airing, but now, there is some hint of conciliatory angling.

Against this background, some of the entertainment that gone through Parliament is beyond public comprehension i.e. CPF money DOES NOT BELONG to peasants’members and NO MINISTER IN PARLIAMENT STOOD UP TO REPRIMAND THIS BLATANT FALSITY. What credibility is there left in there after that TO NOW ADDRESS THIS EXPLOSIVE NATIONAL ISSUE?

For too long, Parliament was turned into a circus show even a deception floor to lie of Marxist Conspiracy. That institution has long lost its credibility. NO need to deny this anymore.

    1. Should LKY’s 3 children respect the wish of their father to demolish 38 Oxley Rd residence upon his death?
    2. Because of PM’s disagreement with his siblings to demolish their late father’s residence against his will, the siblings felt threatened by PM exerting his power using ministerial committee to shut his siblings up to resolve the private family feud is abusive & misuse of state organs to crush siblings’ dissent. The abuse & misuse of ministerial committee is wrong because it is set up to counter not the siblings’ stand but the late LKY’s desire to demolish 30 Oxley Rd residence.

  • Dear PM,:

I am a father of 3 grown-up children and I would like to tell you that I will be extremely mad and unhappy if my dying wish is not honored by my children.

Your siblings have done nothing wrong. They are not politicians and their only aim is to fight to honor the wish of their father. It is indeed a noble act which their parents, if alive, would appreciate very much.

Your father had nurtured you from young to what you are today. Nothing should be more important to you than to respect and honor your father, more importantly, his dying wish to demolish his own house. It is a simple and noble wish which the govt and you in particular must honor to show your appreciation for his life-long contribution to the country.

In my opinion, the Ministerial Committee to explore other options is a downright insult and show of disrespect to LKY and his siblings. We are a nation with a heart and that means honoring the wish of LKY to demolish the house. Dismantle the Ministerial Committee and forget the stupid idea of converting the house into a heritage site. There are many ways to honor LKY. Demolishing the house in accordance to his wish is one way.

Finally, I suggest that you do away with having this matter discussed in Parliament. Are you planning to smear your siblings in Parliament when they will not be there to defend themselves and your father’s honor. Are you not using the organs of the state to castigate them? Stop this rubbish and try to restore the honor of your parents and his family instead of restoring your own honor and that of others.

    b) is there any truth abt Ho chin exerting her powers on per secs etc etc
    c) is there any truth PM Lee is grooming his son to be the next PM
    d) LKY had initialed against the clause on demolition why the PM still in doubt
    e) LKY was atop lawyer himself why did LHL still suspect that clause was inserted in the final will without his knowledge, this is tantamount to insulting LKY’s. intelligence and his state of mind
    f) who initiate setting up the desert committee to at options for the Oxley HSE, Pm Lee or TCH?
    h) a nation wide survey confirmed that 77% were of the view that LKY’s wish to demolish his HSE should be respected, who oppose and why did the cabinet oppose his will
    I) LKY when he was still alive. had publicly announced several times that he wanted demolition, whose decision to oppose?
    j) instead of devoting time and resources to look at economy and security issues why heavy weight ministers are assigned to look at the oxley HSE issue which many considered as a very minor one, where is the sense of priority?
    k) many citizens are of the view that LHY and LWL be invited to parliament to ask the Pm relevant questions and to refute answers by the PM which they think are false. Will this be possible?

There is no point making statement and answering questions in parliament without rebuttals from his accusers or a judge to preside whether which side is telling the truth. Last time when HC was appointed, the reason given was that she was not appointed by the PM but by someone else.

Now we are told that the PM was not involved in the committee. Is the PM now saying it is some Minister taking the initiative to setup the committee as well as raise so many questions regarding LKY’s will ?

Now they giving us the impression they seem to planning another big charade of Q & A which has always been their operatus moderandi all this while to tackle sensitive issues. But over here so many awkward questions has been raised and I just wonder if the same questions can be asked of the PM. As they say, when a lie is uttered to cover another lie, it then becomes absurd when answers contradict to what has been earlier said.

The govt talks about being high tech, about leading
the world in this area. It wants Spore to be a smart
nation. Why contradict itself – yet again – by wanting
to keep a decrepit old place (there are Much better
examples architecturally) that few will visit despite
the system-shaking events which happened there?

Leaving it will hold up devt in the area. Land is scarce
we are constantly reminded, so scarce even the historic
port has to go; even a vital catchment area is threatened.
Why hang on to a place owned by a man with the kind of
reverence reserved for the founders of major religions?
Keeping just the basement is absurd, about as exciting as
a dead cockroach, unless you’re a hungry rat.

Better to do as some have suggested. Film it. Present it
as an exhibit in a museum as a 3D experience. This would
show some of the smartness we aim for, as well as reflect
the far-sightedness of the Group of leaders who, long ago,
hard-headedly hatched their plans for this nation there,
while today’s dither over and complicate a decision. It
would also allow others to experience the simplicity of
a big man’s lifestyle and perhaps, learn from it.

The same is not a solution to remember the old national
library and Sungei Rd, which hundreds of thousands can
easily relate to and thus should still be part of the
landscape! One has gone, the other is going, both becos
of….roads (in a country aiming to be carlite!!). At the
same time, such a 3D route allows for the old man’s Will
to be done. Not that he should be getting special favours
when he didn’t extend the same to others. But mainly becos
really, few are going to bother to visit No 38, with its
high-faluting background; so a shrine is pointless. A little
techie pizzazz is likely to make a difference.

Its ironic His kids are protesting hard-nosed systems – ones
their daddy is responsible for and enforced – which are
standing in the way of No 38′s removal. It is just as ironic
that the govt is struggling – as usual – for how to proceed,
when there is a solution to settle this matter, one that
offers demolition and preservation in the same breath.

It is even more ironic that the furore over the house’s future
could provide a vital reason for its staying – it leads to
scrutiny of systems, actions, individuals and governance that
could Again see a revolution in how this country proceeds, one
as major as what was plotted there over 50 years ago…. Heck,
the ruling party’s whip will be raised in the house parliamentary
debate, an extremely rare occurrence, even though that same
party holds an outstanding majority in the House. So perhaps,
who knows, someone is doing as promised – rising from the
    dead to set right…

IF LHL & HC needs to be there to witness, PAST TENSE won’t sign there and then or insist that he will sign at another moment and only in the presence of LHL & HC.

That PAST TENSE NOT SOUGHT FURTHER LEGAL ADVICE AND ASSISTANCE ANYWHERE for another will AFTER THE 7th and FINAL will is TOWERING PROOF that he is satisfied the Will met all his demands and expectations.

Therefore the 7th Will he signed is CORRECT and is FINALITY.

    @ Bobo,

YOU NEED TO BE COGNIZANT AND VERY CLEAR OF THESE INDISPUTABLE EVIDENTIAL FACTS – PAST TENSE signed both the 7th Will and ALSO INITIALED the place where the now controversial disputed clause on demolition.

It proved conscious awareness of what he is signing – BOTH the Will in its ENTIRETY and specific reference to the demolition clause (even if this is an insertion). PAST TENSE could have signed the Will BUT NOT INITIALED the reference to that demolition clause.

BY signing BOTH the Will AND also initialed the reference to demolition clause, HE PROVED TO THE ENTIRE WORLD that his assent was BOTH ENTIRELY, SPECIFIC AND EXHAUSTIVE in totality and finality.

The demolition clause is also CONSISTENT with another clause in his Will forbidding all others (public) invasive trespass to his property (when he is alive and even after he gone to TERN SUA) – there is nothing suspicious of this CONSISTENCY.

Factoring his signing assent in ENTIRETY, SPECIFIC AND EXHAUSTIVE INTENT demonstrated, how can LHY NOT be correct of his assertion that the 7th Will is indeed entirety and finality?

THAT LAW MUST BE BLIND OF EVIDENCE if it ever ruled against LHY on this Will validity – never mind if TCH, DPM, unilaterally renounced the Will is “faulty”. TCH is NOT the law, the judge nor the Jury even if he self-appointed himself (apparently) as Chair of the superfluous Ministerial Committee looking frivolously into a matter of private family dispute that GCT said has no state relevance and significance.

The more PAPpys attempt to confuse public opinion on this matter, the more ugly it will get of exposure of public discourse in revelations.

SERIOUSLY INSTEAD OF STAGING A MONKEY SHOW dragging the ugliness through Parliament, they should close this chapter by announcing that they want to settle this matter privately and disband the Ministerial Committee.

LHY & LWL, as Tan Jee Say says, can’t be in Parliament to debate this matter nor can they answer Parliamentarian’s questions. They are not covered by judicial immunity of words expressed inside but the opposing side is. If it goes through Parliament, I have compelling apprehension that the public mind will wonder if another GONAD of State institution is utilised to unfair advantage of vested interest against the equities that need to be demonstrated to two private high profile citizens.

Those on the”wrong” side of law must not be allowed to benefit from this cunning stroke of lawful application of administrative power process. There need to be demonstrated that there is EQUITIES available to LHY & LWL and also SEEN TO BE DONE of that achievement.

GOING THROUGH PARLIAMENT IS ONE SIDED AND PROVES THE CONTRARY.

Parliamentary debate on the sibling’s allegation of abuse of official power and position for personal ends would not be fair – in the absence of the accusers, IT’S ONE-SIDED.

    1. A Parliamentarian is protected by Parliamentary Privilege for what he says in parliament; he cannot be sued.
    2. LHY, LWL and LSF not being parliamentarians cannot be there in Parliament to reply to PM or other MPs/Ministers.
    3. Only the 3 can effectively reply to PM, because they know the facts and have documentary evidence.
    4. To deny the 3 to be present in parliament and to reply to PM is grossly one-sided and unfair.
    5. Even if the PAP party whip is lifted, the 83 money-seeking&serving Yesmen PAP MPs and Ministers will not dare ask PM probing, hard-talk questions – in order not to lose their fat-pay parliamentary or Ministerial positions.
    6. A fair and transparent examination of the issue is to have a GENUINELY INDEPENDENT COMMISSION OF INQUIRY, televised live.
