Indian blood required to be Prez isit?

I didn’t know that it’s a constitutional requirement that being Indian or having Indian blood is a must to be the president. Did you? When was this change made? Wah really trying to make sure that Dr Tan Cheng Bock can’t be president.

Seriously, so another Indian (He says he’s “Pakistani but his i/c says “Mama” “Indian”, my sources tell me ) wants to be president:

Mr Farid Khan bin Kaim Khan, 62, has officially announced his intention to stand as a candidate in the upcoming Presidential election reserved for Malay candidates.

… who describes himself as a caring person is of Pakistani descent and his wife is of Arabic descent. He regards his family as part of a larger Malay community as his family speak Malay and practice the Malay culture. He has two children, a 24-year-old daughter, and an 18-year-old son.

TOC

Then there’s guy from Second Chance. Yes, I know his i/c says “Malay” but I know many Malays consider him to be “Indian”. These same Malays say “Yaacob’s ‘Arab’”.

Lines very blurred

Actually lines between the Malay community and some Muslim Indian communities are very blurred. As I explained once, in the 80s there was a really good senior MFA official who was always complaining that he was wrongly classified as Indian, not Malay.  This is what a very senior MFA official (Indian Muslim) said to me (and others) in the early 80s: “How do I answer my young daughter when she asks me why she’s Indian but her cousin’s Malay?”. He was always grousing that being classified as Indian hurt his career (he could have been a minister) because of the “quota” system for Indians and Malays. He had to compete with clever Hindus and not Malays.

——————————–

And juz wondering? What does Halimah Yacob’s i/c say given that dad was Indian Muslim? To be fair to her and the PAP, the Malays community does consider her “Malay”, no matter what her i/c may say. When she was in NJUS Law School (mid 70s), her cohort knew her as a “tudung” wearing Malay.

Whatever, Indians rule OK. There’s Devan Nair, Nathan (two terms) and then the next one too (even if it’s a “reserved” one for Malays). No wonder the Indians are uppity about their place in S’pore’s caste system.

Whatever, again, Khan’s case seems to show that Muslims are beginning to think that being Muslim makes them Malay.

What next? A Muslim Chinese can be a Malay? When the day comes when a Chinese Muslim is considered by the Malay community to be a Malay, then the PAP will have to rethink its Hard Truth that all politics are race-based, with a tinge of sectarianism.

  • Singapore turned into a Circus:

The PAP has turned Singapore into a Circus to serve their self-interest.

    Input from a foreign observer:

As a foreigner following this comical satirical spectacle, one cannot help but to end up with the impression that the Institution of the President of Singapore seemed to be some kind of quirky joke.

I am amazed as to how the Institution of the President could be allowed to be decided or arbitrarily changed by a certain group of people at whims and fancies. More bewildering, when the arguments seemed to be based on some flimsy logic, even hilarious or suspect.

Can anyone make sense of such confusing and comical constantly arbitrary changing specifications of the institution of the President of Singapore?

A nominated President one election, an Elected President next election, a Malay President this time, an Indian President another time. Or, no it is not a Malay’s turn yet. Or no you have to start counting from which past President and not another. No rules, no law. This has to be simply befuddling, to say the least.

Isn’t it already obvious that PAP is damn scared that should the rules not be changed then the next guy voted in as president might be someone who isn’t a puppet ala Tony?

The PAP these days are pretty shit when it comes to excuses. President must be a racial thing but not the PM because PAP said so.

Makes you wonder if racial integration is nothing but hot air. On one hand they blabber about racial tolerance and all that, on the other the oresidnt die die must be malay.

Looks like PAP needs to be taught another lesson by all races in the next GE.

  • DKK ?:

This Presidential Election is becoming very confusing.

In the 60′s, my kampong Malay fried referred to an Indian looking Malay as DKK – Darah Keturungan Keleng. It means a Malay with Indian blood. A DKK can speak Malay, Cook and Eat Malay food and practise the Malay culture. So he is considered a Malay.

What about a Chinese looking Malay who converted to Islam ? Do you called him a Malay just because he married a Muslim wife and eat Malay food and converted to Islam ?

The Peranakans originated from Chinese fathers and Malay mothers. Can they be called DKC – Darah Keturungan China ? Can they be considered as Malays as they have Malay blood, can speak the Malay language better than some Malays, cook and eat Malay food ? If it is possible then President Wee Kim Wee can be considered a Malay because he was a Peranakan.

If the Islam religion is the main factor to be considered a Malay, then what about Malays who are Christians (Bataks of Sumatra) and Malays who are Hindu (Bali Islanders). They speak the Malay language, cook and eat Malay food and practise the Malay culture except they believe in another religion.

Then we will not have this Presidential issue today. Can someone please clarify this confusion ?

  • PAP IB Spy Troll Exposer:

    Cynical Investor,

Why? You switched side again? No more IB for PAP already?
They see you kena hantam down here, so they sacked you, right?

Anyway, when you use a nick with the word “CYNICAL”, nobody will take you seriously, don’t you know that?

How can a CYNICAL Person be trusted?

Define Cynical at Dictionary.com and Merriam-Webster.com

    1. distrusting or disparaging the motives of others;

    2. showing contempt for accepted standards of honesty or morality;

    3. bitterly or sneeringly distrustful, contemptuous, or pessimistic.

    4. believing that people are motivated purely by self-interest; distrustful of human sincerity or integrity.

    5. concerned only with one’s own interests and typically disregarding accepted standards in order to achieve them.

Examples of Sentences using the word cynical:

    1. He’s often been accused of cynicism in his attitude towards politics.

    2. He praises my cooking but it’s just a cynical ploy to get me to make him dinner.

3, She works in that most cynical of industries – advertising.

    4. He is a member of the most cynical of political parties – PAP.

    5. I thought the actor’s appeal was very moving, but my husband saw it as a cynical attempt to get publicity.

    6. How did my trusting little child suddenly turn into such an angry, cynical teenager and work as an IB for the PAP for money?

    7. Some people regard the minister’s visit to the hospital as a cynical attempt to win votes.

Have you got the drift, Dear Cynical?

This CONFUSION was started by a man name Lee Con You who CONNED enough Singaporeans he is Hokkien and NOT Hakka b’cos he addresses the nation in Hokkien calling himself “Gunang” ie we Hokkiens…banned Dialects and promoted Mandarin…use English more than Malay the national language(least of the CONFUSION)…. imposed race ratio in HDB flats but left Chinatown and little India intact…accused Nationalists and Patriots as Communists and Social & Church workers as Marxists

What is he really??? a man who CONNED Singapore into what it is Today an ILLUSION of CONFUSION!!!

    ………

    @DDK, no need to be confused. The Court already taichi the decision to Parliament. This is what Justice Quentin Loh ruled;

“Ultimately, since (the Constitution) does not fetter Parliament’s power … Parliament’s choice of (the first elected President) is a policy decision which falls outside the remit of the courts”.

Now I understand why Court of Law is called “COURT”, same a the court you play tennis, basketball, etc. throwing or hitting a bouncing ball from one side to the other. Yah, I forget, kan***oo also similar action.

The next constitution change for eligibility to stand for presidential election is:
    1) must be ex-PM or
    2) surname Lee or
    3) must have at least $200millions in bank account or
    4) be descendants of lky or
    5) whatever lhl wants

    It’s all in the family.
All complains will be answered in parliament with the whip thrown away for time of tough questioning.

So don’t say you didn’t get the chance to complain.
This new norm of answering complains will be added in the constitution as well. So it’s all within the law.

A chinese just need not be taoist or budhist but can be a muslim or christain likeise an Indian, and soon the perception of malays mainly as muslim in futuure be shared with other religious beliefs as welll
