SMRT: Why Desmond must go

That SMRT has asked staff to own-up to lapses without being penalised before a detailed audit is carried out is very worrying. The implication is that SMRT’s senior management is worried that the falsification of records on the maintenance of a tunnel is not the work of “a few rotten apples”. As someone posted on FB:

To be at this juncture, they must have lost control over the operations of the company. Employees must be very unhappy and demoralised too!

Management must be worried that the falsification of maintenance records is systemic. If it’s systemic, senior management cannot escape responsibility even if S’pore does accountability and responsibility in its unique understanding of “meritocracy”: Why PAP doesn’t do accountability, meritocracy.

Talking about the falsification of maintenance records and the failure to detect that work was done, a few days before the amnesty:

Singapore Management University’s Toru Yoshikawa said they are indicative that it was not a priority for SMRT’s top management and board to review its system of checks and internal audits.

Well Desmond has been CEO long enough (5 years) to be responsible for systematic mgt failings. so he and other senior managers should commit hari-kiri. And btw, Hali, the president, and Ong, a contender to be PM, were directors of SMRT: More on Hali’s judgement between 2007 -2011/ Meritocracy? What meritocracy?

During his 1984 National Day Rally speech, LKY had this to say about getting things done and what should be done when things don’t work: “Everything works, whether its water, electricity, gas, telephone, telexes, it just has to work. If it doesn’t work, I want to know why, and if I am not satisfied, and I often was not, the chief goes, and I have to find another chief. Firing the chief is very simple.

Wonder why his son forgot this Hard Truth when rereading LKY’s speeches? How PM honours “Pa”

Because LKY would fired him after the 2011 GE if LKY had the power? Instead LKY had to move on and was rumoured to have said that Teo Cheen Hean would have made a better PM than “Hsien Loong”.

Kelong how to fire? Fire with what?

To be able to control your fire…….a term borrowed when in the infantry….not guards! You must fire your wife first!

Otherwise it will be own self check ownself!

Making your son as director n put him in your office is not able to control your fire!

In any case the rot started with Lky towards the látter part when he take a big discount for buying Nassim Rd condo, followed by son, daughter and the rest of the lees n kwas!

Devil quack will not resign nor commit hara kiri ; because the salaries is too big to lose , he knows that the private sector will not employ him with this kind of salaries unless he is promoted to a senior post with the same kind of pay in GIC ; moreover his wife and parents already lose face because of his incompetency ; the only way he is to drag and hold on the job as long as he can.

Rail RTS is a very complex system serving many types of stakeholders – public, passengers, internal staffs, visitors to depots, emergency responders, etc. And we are talking about keeping train service available and safe. So the competency of staffs should be paramount.

You need to appreciate the fine engineering that goes into each and every one of the sub-systems like Rolling Stock, Signaling, Traction power, Power distribution system, ISCS (or SCADA), PSD, Permanent Way (or Track and its furnitures), E&M systems, ECS, AMS, OCC operation, station operation, etc etc

You need to understand the operating modes and principles during normal, abnormal and emergency situations, in order to take care of the daily business.

It is not easy to lead such a complex organisation and the job descriptions to find staffs should reflect an adequate level of competency – such as 20 years railway experience to lead the organisation; 10 years railway experience in the particular system to be a senior staff; degree from a recognised University in the particular discipline, etc.

Competent staffs + adequate railway training + regular drills/exercises + proud/engaged staffs = successful organisation.

  • PAP Is Root Of All Evils:

CI calling for change of millionaire volunteer? CI after the volunteer job? or directive from clown prince to limit the damage, save his hide and jettison the burden?

The firing should not just stop at Desmond, the whole PAP government should be booted. LKY instituted the rot in PAP with their astronomical salaries and muffling the mass media. Took away accountability and checks. Now we have a bunch of expensive useless aristocrat clowns and court jesters running this place who are clueless how to run the country other than milking the money.

Just take a good look, the whole country is in a huge mess, inside out. We paid US to create jobs for them and take our multinationals away. Our farking oversized egoes killed our relationship with China, our biggest investor.
Malls are deserting and leaking, place is overcrowding, many middle ages are fast becoming jobless. Mishaps keep occurring at the hospitals, MRT is basically closing shop, with failures occurring every other day. Just take a look at the reserves and cpf money, are these money still there?? Nobody knows. NOL Armada was sunked by yet another, an Army paper General. SPF is now a private force of the PAP, administering terror to kids and critics. Just look at the kan***oo court and legal sycophants. The familee is now at arms with each other over dishonorable son. The list of failures is endless and can go on and on.

Dafts are still sleeping? Still balless to vote for change? There is no hope for any future for current generation, but what about future generations? Also giving up hope already? Vote for Change. Kick them out when you still can. Hold them accountable. Get all your money and future back. Send those thieves to jail.

not all problems can be solved easily if all the wrong critical ‘conditions’ are still existing. some white idiot did mention ‘culture’ but the white idiotic gang may have forgotten they are the very ‘culture’ that they have to exorcise – comfortable rent-seeking culture where their high overall costs (due to “CULTURE”) have to be recovered (by high pricing loaded onto the paying public).

now anyone for 10million (which again has been brought up again by another white idiot) ? got good culture from the 10million or not (majority are not going to be swiss and japan standard / culture hor; and most likely going to be chat-ba-lang standard / culture).

  • What abt KBW????:

This morning(9/11/-) train delays were reported on the NSL, just 2 days after KBW pledged that train service will be improved and stabilized! One wonders why the schools, businesses and employers have not voiced out their frustrations as each time delays occur, workers are late for work and appointments, how much money they have lost so far, what is the impact on productivity? Yet KBW and DK are not ordinary working stuff like you and me, they earn millions of dollars, so if things repeatedly failed under their charge how can they simply spin some stories and excuses, make empty promises and that’s it, case close move on! Citizens affected and frustrated by the repeated breakdowns have been calling for their resignations or sackings if they refused to resign, yet nothing is done, they still continue to spout excuses after excuses except solving the problems!
This state of affairs have been going on for far too long, SG’s reputation of an efficient country has been severely damaged, will foreign companies come here when they perceived that we have no capability to solve the transport issues, how their companies and worksers can operate with train disruptions happening every now and then.and to DK and KBW , you guys have to do what LTY had done RESIGN! You guys have no clues on how to solve the problems , let other more capable people do it at much lower salaries, including foreign experienced experts in similar Field! Please not be thick skin and cling on to yourmillion$$$$ job! Let commuters have peace of mind when ever they step on trains to work or school!
And most surprising, PM keeps quiet all this while and also when KBW was in parliament talking about the tunnel flooding! Frequent train disruptions are a serious issue, more important than diabetes or smart nation! Please let the nation, and businesses and schools have a peace of mind!

  • Definitely he and MOT must go:

After 20 years of coaching the useless PM still has not learnt from his master and I quote CI:
“During his 1984 National Day Rally speech, LKY had this to say about getting things done and what should be done when things don’t work: “Everything works, whether its water, electricity, gas, telephone, telexes, it just has to work. If it doesn’t work, I want to know why, and if I am not satisfied, and I often was not, the chief goes, and I have to find another chief. Firing the chief is very simple.“

Singapore was like a 6 cylinder engine car with turbo when LKY was PM. When the wooden seat warmer took over the turbo began to break down. Now it is without the turbo engine and only 4 cylinders are left misfiring.

SMRT and appointments of useless people e.g. Temasek are living examples.

In SMRT, an Inexperienced paper general was anointed, not appointed, only to cause chaos to the commuting public for 5 bloody years and still getting worse. Pay still increased. This is utter nonsense! You cannot find this anywhere in this world where there is meritocracy. Only in Lee’s kingdom.

Then a big mouthed liar in the form of an idiotic MOT is put in charge. After more than two years nothing’s changed for the better. The only thing that’s changed is his imagination: that the MRT service had improved more than threefold since he took over.
Yet the useless PM did nothing. Absolutely ZILCH!
This had prompted the South China Morning Post to poke fun at us saying that “Our Rolling Stock has become the Laughing Stock”. What a damn shame!!!!!!!

I, together with the whole of Singapore am asking the PM to sack the MOT and the CEO of SMRT.

After which, the PM should step down to repent for his dereliction of duty.

  • Rabble-rouser:

Meritocracy & the SAF were symbols of PAP’s original designs to create a superior entity force [re: Meritocratic & SAF Scholars] to govern & rule over the [common] masses. BUT THEY ARE CLEARLY FAILING! Meritocratic Scholars were failing in the market place ie. in the Corporate Arena [now gone-NOL, SPH, SMRT, etc] & in the provision of Essential Services to the masses re: Public transport by SMRT (sic).
The SAF itself was a dysfunctional military organization that the PAP had created into a two-tier segment ie: the grunts (hokkien peng, blur sotongs, crybabies) & the non-commissioned officers (NCOs) were on the bottom tier & the commissioned officers elite on the top.
During National Service & reservists stints, it was always clear that the commissioned officers either never cared nor rarely interact with the bottom tier. Frankly, they don’t give a sh** about their men – they were brought up to be elitist in thinking. They just give the orders down the ranks ie. to the NCOs & expect them to carry out their orders without questions & without fail.
The world of the commissioned officers were an isolated & cocooned eco-system – they had their own officer’s mess to mingle; better food from their own cookhouse (..a long time ago – now their meals are outsourced); their own exclusive club to socialise (in the past, Temasek Club at Portsdown Road, but now shifted to where? couldn’t care less), etc.
The world of the commissioned officers were very different from that of the NS recruits & their NCOs. They (the commissioned officers) were a pampered lot much like our pet dogs in our homes. Whereas the enlisted men/recruits were from a bunch of different social strata lot & many had to fight for survival in a dog-eat-dog SAF eco-system; the NCOs were like the tai-kor-tai in this brutal environment. In the soldier’s world – there were segmented lots; the hokkien peng (low education but street-smarts characters) who evolved into ‘gow keng’ peng [clever in evading duties or be assigned for easy work], MC King [bluff experts for Medical Certs]; blur sotongs [act to avoid responsibilities]; sabo kings [blame shifters to ingratiate with upper crust to get benefits]. In short, they learnt the SAF system & devise ways to either ‘short-circuit’ or ‘game’ the system for their own benefit. Because the officers were in their own elite world, they rarely understood the (NS) common soldier’s problems & their innovative response to it.

First, Kuek has to go. Five years is a long time to get things right. In less than 5 years, Steve Jobs transformed Apple from rotten to good. But in Kuek’s case, he transformed SMRT from worse to rotten. If you are not competent, volunteering for the job does not save you grace!

The only honorable things for incompetent Kuek is to resign and SMRT should appoint someone competent to do the job! But then if the upper echelon are dishonorable, why would the lower level people honorable?

    - Cont’d -
The low SAF pay were a disincentive to the NS men; many had been working for a living since leaving school a long time ago. They had to find money for their families as their NS allowance were insufficient. Either they evade the heavy lifting of the SAF, escape into the civvy world to earn money or simply adjust their contribution downwards in proportion to their measely SAF pay eg. a ‘BO CHAP’ attitude.
When one understands the epidemic & the historical nature of SAF culture – one immediately understands the humongous problems facing SMRT Pte Ltd. And why SMRT performance had been getting worse under CEO Desmond Kuek when compared with ex-CEO Cleopatra Saw Phaik Hwa.
“Management must be worried that the falsification of maintenance records is systemic” & “Well Desmond has been CEO long enough (5 years) to be responsible for systematic mgt failings”. Sad to say this, it is clear that SMRT had been inflicted with the SAF culture of an elitist upper management & a very unhappy and demoralised Employees segment – a symptomatic & the common ailments with the SAF culture.
The SAF culture had infiltrated throughout the entire SMRT organization resulting in a ‘BO CHAP’ attitude re: ‘they are indicative that it was not a priority for SMRT’s top management and board to review its system of checks and internal audits’ & ‘they must have lost control over the operations of the company.’SMRT’s senior management is worried that the falsification of records on the maintenance of a tunnel is not the work of “a few rotten apples” – Why? [SMRT Upper Management] They’ve paid themselves millions but ended up disincentivising the workers & providers who were paid ‘peanuts’. The end product was a human response towards the highly paid culture of an elite crust who have lost touch with the common ground.

‘Wonder why his son forgot this Hard Truth when rereading LKY’s speeches’
This is why S’pore under the PAP are failing! We need a NEW PARADIGM.
DEFINITION: A NEW PARADIGM is a totally new way of doing things that has a huge effect on business.
New paradigm draws its roots from the idea of a paradigm shift in science, in which technology or new findings completely change the way people think about or interact with something.
In business the idea is the same; a whole new way of looking at things.
    Link: https://www.investopedia.com/terms/n/newparadigm.asp#ixzz4xuFusb4W
Image how long can S’pore continue when our PM still seeks inspiration from his father’s historical speeches. How long can the 70% voters have faith in a global world that is undergoing a whole paradigm shift ie. disruptions & discontinuities that will inflict on the world economy? I fear for S’pore!

Management worried? Good one there Cynical, had me smiling.

Everyone knows that the system cannot make it with all the frequent disruptions in the last few years, we don’t need anyone to tell us that SMRT doesn’t know how to fix the problems and that their staff all tidak apa.

It’s like saying your car keeps giving problems month after month no matter how many times you send it back to the authorised dealer to rectify it. What would your conclusion be about the dealer after umpteen failures?

And let’s be brutally frank, senior management has escaped every single time a disruption has occurred, we still have not seen ah Kuek’s head roll now have we? As far as they are concerned, a one day press conference which they explain why the disruption occurred is more than enough. Khaw knows nothing will happen to him other than questions being asked so what has he got to worry about?

Whatever nonsense about audits and having special teams flown in to look see look see are all just wayangs. You already know the disruptions will continue to happen already.

After all, it’s been so many years and so many disruptions right? You think just because an audit is called and a Taiwanese team flown in the disruptions will cease from 2018 onwards? Hmm?
