Function 8: Prosecution of Jolovan Wham

Jolovan Wham

We are alarmed and disappointed that Jolovan Wham, a promising, award-winning young social worker and a courageous human rights defender, was charged with 7 offences under the Public Order Act, Vandalism Act and the Penal Code on 29 November 2017.

We are dismayed that Jolovan Wham faces three counts of unlawful assembly under the Public Order Act. He was alleged to have been involved in holding a vigil outside Changi Prison for a man who was to be executed at dawn, organising an assembly without permit in a train and a forum involving a foreign speaker through skype.

He also faces one count of vandalism for temporarily sticking two A4 size papers with the words “MARXIST CONSPIRACY? #notodetentionwithouttrial” and “JUSTICE FOR OPERATION SPECTRUM SURVIVORS #notodetentionwithouttrial” on a panel of an MRT train and three counts of refusal to sign his recorded statement under the Penal Code.

For more than a decade, Jolovan Wham has been the voice of the voiceless. He tirelessly championed human rights causes. He spoke up for migrant workers who suffered abuse and ill-treatment by unscrupulous employers. He sought and continues to seek improvement for their work and living conditions.

Jolovan Wham has spoken up against the death penalty and detention without trial. He is an advocate for freedom of speech and assembly. He is a constant reminder that we as a first world country, should strive to attain the standard of human rights enjoyed by other first world countries. He is our conscience and we should appreciate his contributions to the nation.

Jolovan Wham was recognised for his work with the Promising Social Worker Award in 2011. This award is nominated and judged by his social work peers and seniors and which accords recognition to social workers who are newer in the field but who have made a difference in the lives of their clients as well as the community. It is an award conferred by the President of the Republic of Singapore and presented at the Istana.

We do not understand why the State is pursuing the seven charges against Jolovan Wham for events which were all peaceful and non-violent. He works for the good of our country, which we are told, aims to be inclusive and which respects diverse voices. We support Jolovan Wham and his humanistic ideals.

We urge the Attorney-General to exercise his prosecutorial discretion, reconsider the case and drop the charges against Jolovan Wham and cease all proceedings against him.

We urge the Government to review the law to ensure that genuine and peaceful civil actions like those of Jolovan are not prosecuted by the overly wide provisions of our legislation.

We call on the Singapore government to give space for loyal citizenship in all peaceful forms.

Jolovan will be convicted–that is a foregone conclusion. The PAP have not lost a case in Singapore–ever. It is like every time you buy Toto you win first prize–without fail.

Jolovan is a hero of our times. He should be respected for having earned
his position through being persecuted by the PAP. The same goes to JBJ, Dr Chee, Amos, Roy and those “Marxist conspirators”. Then there is the two youths who protested outside the Istana during the old man’s departure.

Forum 8 should list in detail those who fought for the freedom of citizens to voice their views and opinions without resorting to violence.

They are the people ahead of their time and should be honoured as heroes of out time.

  • Self confessed moron:

With LKY grandson on the contempt issue and his obstinacy to stay rooted in Harvard, the incessant lunacy issue imposed on dead row champion Ravi, Amos granted polocal asylum in US after inhuman treatment just for calling aloud that LKY the horrible man is finally dead but really on the legal of foul language and disrespect to religions so terrible that he has to be cuffed and chained without the balls ( should Amos thanked God that he was so generously spared not to have to drag two balls from the cell to before the Hon Judge deciding his very naughty crime, the dayin dayout beight lit cell and his nightmare of his supposed treatment of his suicide tendency by the psychiatrists which turned into confinement in the midst of psychotic criminals, the persecution of unlawful assembly etc.. etc..etc fresh in the mind of Singaporeans, it was like stuck with a thumderbolt when a member of the team responsible to talk about humantarianism and try to lead the Asean leaders by their noses to rush resolving humanitarian issue. Did he remember what his team has signed the protection of young from political prosecution when Amos a teenager was treated like a searial killer. Did he urged his team to go down on their knee begging for forgiveness for destroying tje lives of many families when his master imprisoned withoit trial polotical adveraries at one one breaking the record of the Nobel Laureat for peace fjor the time he was politically imprisoned. Even now Singaporeans were harassed with legal charge for the right to differ politically from his master.

Even on medical bill, why his party doesn’t go after his own flock for leaking out that he only pay $8 for his rotten hear surgery. Even an ordinary citizen pay very much more to stay a night in the lowest class ward. Is he lying to Singaporeans just to be oneup for kpkb about medical costs. Why TR E needs to apologise? Why the nicked named $8 man wasn’t lasooed for telling such lie if indeed it is a lie that he only pay $8 for his medical bill incurred on heart surgery and hospitalization.

The medi case is similar to the humanitarian case. Vivian needs to deal with what his master amd multimillionaire clubs of politician members have done and said in great opacity more blantly and deadly that the Black Hole of Calcutta before he spew shits and garbage.

Confession is a great religious act but as the Decile guardian preached. Confession compunded if it is done pretentiously. So be prepared Karma is around
