Single parents should remember to vote PAP out for abuse of power in allocating HDB flats

I refer to TOC article “Single parents disappointed with inaction on parliamentary petition and lack of consultation”.

Inaction on the petition should not have surprised anyone because:
– PAP will effect changes only when there are accruing benefits;
– Its profit-oriented nature sees this as one of cost increase for the government.

PAP is not interested to resolve issues which do not affect elites.

Instead of having rules which automatically qualify single parents for public housing, PAP wants to maintain control. Single parents are then forced to go beg their MPs, often without success.

PAP MPs will be credited for exceptional success cases; again subtle propaganda at

Even without any petition, the government – if it wasn’t sleeping – should have introduced amendments years ago. This is because, under current regulations, an increasing number of Singaporean adults and children are in trouble due to the lack of proper housing

Last year, there were 7614 divorces and if 80% of the them lived in HDB flats, thousands of single parents must have faced severe financial hardship all because of rigid public housing rules.

Public housing is for the benefit of citizens but with 80% of residential housing controlled by the government, there is really nowhere for people to turn to.

Since HDB flats are constructed on land which collectively belongs to all Singaporeans, surely HDB rules and regulations must see to it that every Singaporean stands to benefit. Sadly, PAP has abused its power with total control of public housing.

Single parents should remember that PAP views helping citizens as a cost to the government. It has a track record of helping reluctantly – only when there’s a threat to its grip on power.

To expedite HDB rule change, is there any option besides voting out PAP?

Bascially, PAP policy is: Die, die must stay together. No divorce. Why not just live separate lives under one roof, why inconvenience the state because of your family disagreements and marriage cockups? Too bad.

  • Harder Truths:

    Very true Philip.

Children in general are useful only if they generate income for the pappy ATM from consuming needed resources. Pappies will never give any needed resources to our children for no tangible gain to themselves.

Many people are unable to meet their obligations from pappy policies. This becomes a crime in the eyes of the pappies and citizens and children are shamed for not having enough or not being able to have enough.

Thus $G parents or their children in need will never be looked after and will have to depend on other $G for handouts and charity.

While FT have their children in the elite public schools or in private institutions. Other foreign children are sought out and are given scholarships for no reason other than being a foreigner.

When reaching working age – all the years of study are meaningless – jobs are in the hands of FT and the pappy inner circle.

$G children have no future – they must resign themselves to a life as an FT servant or as a beggar when they are replaced in the workforce.

    Uniquely $ingaporean.

The govt cannot please everyone. Its policies are catered to the majority of the population, and the majority of Singaporeans are happily married with children. Those who divorce have usually made the wrong choice in their partner selection, or infidelity on either side caused the divorce. Therefore, why should the govt cater to the poor judgment or immorality of such people, bearing in mind that such people form only a tiny % of our population?

  • 76.2 % Landlord (1985):

    LandAcquisition Act is enforced
    17th Jun 1967

(The compulsory acquisition of land by the government was effective in keeping the costs of building houses and industrial premises affordable.) Really?

“After Singapore gained independence in 1965, the government had a pressing need for an adequate supply of land to carry out its developmental projects, especially those concerning resettlement and industrialisation.[1] The Land Acquisition Ordinance of 1920 was repealed by the Land Acquisition Act in 1966 so as to give the government the power of compulsory land acquisition for public development. The act also regulated the amount of compensation to be given to landowners who had their properties acquired by the government.[2]The Land Acquisition Act was passed by parliament on 26 October 1966 and came into effect on 17 June the following year. Any disputes between the government and landowners over the compensation amounts were presided over by an Appeals Board.[3] To further expedite government developmental projects through land acquisition, the act was amended in 1973 in order to curb land speculation and limit the cost of land acquisition. The revised act fixed the compensation amount for acquired land at the market value as at 30 November 1973 or at the date of gazette notification, whichever was lower.[4]The Land Acquisition Act expedited the process of land possession by the government for public purposes. Between 1959 and 1984, the government acquired a total of 43,713 acres (17,690 ha or 177 sq km) of land, which constituted about one-third of the total land area of Singapore then.[5] The bulk of land, however, was acquired under the Land Acquisition Act after 1967.[6] With an increase in acquired land parcels, the government became the biggest landowner by 1985. At the time, the government owned 76.2 percent of the land in Singapore compared with 31 percent in 1949.[7]The compulsory acquisition of land by the government was effective in keeping the costs of building houses and industrial premises affordable.[8] Cheaper and more effective land acquisition also resulted in better urban planning that facilitated the urban renewal efforts carried out by the Urban Redevelopment Authority and its predecessor the Urban Renewal Department in the central area, which led to the growth of the commercial and business district in downtown Singapore.[9]References1. Ngiam, T. D. (2007, February 2).”

  • Disconnected from Ground:

IB Ong could possibly be a foreign agent out to destroy Singapore by destroying our opposition, reverting PAP’s policies to the pro-FT, infrastructure overloading policies before they lost Aljunied. PAP managed to destroy the lives of ordinary Singaporeans just in a short span of 10 years. 30% lives below poverty line and our MRT is still not fixed after 2 GE.

Tony Tan warns us “Singapore cannot tolerate attempts by foreign countries or entities to manipulate our people’s sentiments”

IB Ong has shown on multiple occasions that he is not in touch with the ground and local issues. Majority of Singaporeans are not “happily married with children.”

Singaporeans are not producing enough babies, the problem is so serious that many of our JCs are closed down and have to be merge because of insufficient intake.

He is also spreading lies similar to “elderly collecting cardboard for exercise”.
According to him, Single parents either chose the wrong partner, or due to infidelity.

There are many cases of single parents, death due to illness like cancer, father in jail due to offense. And it’s not always their own fault like IB Ong claimed.

You Asked Single parents to remember. I am sure they will forget. Before election just to get their votes , the PAP Government and the PAP will do a round about turn and offer them ( the single parents) the right to purchase a BTO flat. PAP MPs will start being on their toes and the Government will ” claim” that the PAP MPs fought hard for the BTOs to be given to single parents.. Then they will vote for them.
