Irony of the Day

When a company claims that it needs to get more revenue because it has high cost and needs to pay high welfare to low paying workers, but next, they announce record high bonuses for those top management for the past few years, what would you think?

Just a week ago, PAP drummed up to increase tax because of high expenditure on welfare like healthcare, but next, they announce record high bonuses for themselves and civil service! What would you think?

If GDP growth is good and thus justify their super good bonuses, then high GDP should give them high tax revenue as well!

Does that make sense to anybody?

Well, I for one, do not believe in giving out bonuses, lest high bonuses to civil servants or politicians. They are there to provide public service, not to make money out of public service.

GDP growth may have very little to do with their efforts or leadership but mainly due to global economic trends.

They are already the HIGHEST paid Ministers, civil servants and MPs inthe world and the political appointees do not need to pay tax. Why should they be paid bonuses which have little to do with their effort?

    It is foolish to begrudge our ministers and civil servants higher salaries because overall, their combined salaries as a % of GDP is still minuscule. Pay them well and they do their jobs well and avoid corruption. Pay them less and it demotivates them and leads to lacklustre performance. Also, reducing their salaries does nothing to help our fiscal position.

    CIVIL SERVANT BONUSES are installment payments in advance of forward election lolly.

    Down Under, only private sector pays performance bonus because it is related to market stress, competitiveness and actual performance outcome. Public servants are just servants of the Crown – no competition and thus no assessed market value and therefore no bonuses.

    PAPpy politicised public service for its political capital cultivation and harvesting.

    That is why whenever any “OLD DOG/BITCH” in LEE-jiapore leaves for TERN SUA, all public servants (even school children) have to show their hypocritical last respect in some form or another. The national pledge is not just highfalutin, it is a FART OF FICTION of all is equal instead of stratified according to political classification within or without.

  • Legacy of Lee Kuan Yew:

    Lee Kuan Yew left behind a legacy that enabled Singapore to be ruled by a bunch Civil Servant tyrants who are allowed to decide on policies that benefit themselves. And they always do, relative to the rest of the population.

    Like when it comes to tax collection, everybody whether you are rich or poor, pays equally more or less the same rates. Now, when it comes to expenditure, the Civil servant elites always end up benefitting more than their fair share of the national budget.

    Singapore has to be the only country in the world where the PAP Civil Servants can decide arbitrarily on what to pay themselves, and the tax payers whom they take (steal) the money from are unable to do anything. Thanks to the oppressive rule, again the legacy of Lee Kuan yew.

    Not surprisingly, they continue to perpetuate such oppressive rule vigorously. Not permitting criticisms or protests, and taking draconian measures against anyone who dares to step out, such as Jolovan Wham, Roy Ngerng, Amos Yee, or Dr. Chee or JBJ, etc.

    And so Civil Servants get multimillion-dollar salaries and absurd 19-month or 30-month bonuses. Civil Servants??????????? What do they do to deserve such remuneration?

    The top civil servants are well rewarded because they are the ones that licked PAP boots so cravenly. PM Lee’s use of public office for enriching himself and his goons warrants close scrutiny for possible abuse of power. The PAP government will try every trick in its repertoire to take back with the left hand what it gives with the right. The “Now Sweet, Later Bitter” strategy is PAP’s standard operating procedure (SOP). This could well be the Irony Of The Day as mentioned by GMS.

  • PAP rule of law:

    There is no rule of law in Singapore, a rule of law that is fair and just and democratic, where no one can abuse the law or be above the law.

    Here, we have one set of rules for a certain privileged group of citizens the ruling elite), another for the critics and opponents of the PAP and a third for the rest of us.

    They have a gangster police and stable of kan**roos to see to that.

    Here we have only a PAP rule of law, where the PAP elites can abuse the law and do what they like, using oppressive rule to oppress anyone who opposes to them.

    They can decide what they want to pay themselves with tax payers’ money.

    Or allow them to persistently refuse to be transparent and come clean about how they manage the hundreds of billions of our reserves or reveal how many billions of our reserves or CPF savings have disappeared. Or the millions or billions in salaries and bonuses the management of Temasek and GIC pay themselves to rack up the billions in losses. [Read that in the context of the management of other sovereign funds. The value of Norwegian Sovereign Fund topped one trillion dollars, while the Singapore sovereign fund lost a reportedly $200b?, $300b?. They never denied it (as they always would if that is not true), just remained silent, as usual when something unflattering is true]

    Or decide on some absurd arbitrary criteria as to who can or cannot be our Elected President by reserving it only for the Malay Race (cheating to keep out a very popular non-Malay opponent), only to twist (cheat) the rules again to admit the Indian candidate they have chosen when they subsequently realized she was not a Malay after all.

    The list of the abuses of the ‘wild West’ PAP rule of law is unending.

    @ Ong PC,

    PAPpys in the House of the most expensive, mostly useless decorations, are bloated and fat of daily gas expulsions of their windy happy contradictions.

    Here is one obvious one. Harakiri Cow told Oppies to commit harakiri for fictitious under-performance in municipal accounting but when his own MOT & SMRT fiacked up public rail transportation – THE BEST HE COULD DO (besides blaming everyone else and everything except GOD) – is this pleading. The lower rungs of public servants are very hardworking and dedicated (I agree on this one) but they are NOT PERFECT HUMAN BEING and NEITHER ARE WE. How come this farting cow expelled different fragrance when he confronted WP on municipal accounting matter which the Auditor-General Office can’t even find a solution? Oppies are not even trained accountants.

    If silly farting cow is any smarter of accounting wit, why didn’t he or his mates step forward and attempt my (financial) reserve accounting test in the oil and gas case study example?

    PAPpys are good at farting smelly political gas, lah!

    you got it all wrong man. All businessmen think that well-paid workers tends to be very lazy, greedy and have attitude problems generally. When one party is too rich and powerful, they believed themselves are Kings and Queens. So its members, from junior to pioneer generation, naturally behave like kings and queens. They talked rubbish etc and yet people…still applause and laugh happily like no sense.

  • Rabble-rouser:

    In today’s economic climate, a high cost structure as well as a govt imposing high regressive taxes are vulnerabilities [ie. Fragilities] that can be either disrupted through technology or undermined through geopolitical play or simply, relocation to a more competitive environment that are willing offer lower costs to attract investments.
    The days of ‘Premium’ marketing & ‘priced at what the market can bear’ type of thinking are over. Look at how technology have disrupted S’pore Inc;
    * how online retailing websites have eaten alive Brick ‘n Mortar retail shops burden by high rents & wages;
    * how online web-listings of jobs, cars & real estate with competitive rates have send Print media monopoly giant SPH into a decade long steep decline;
    * how taxi fleet giant Comfort Delgro slept & failed to see ride sharing competitors Uber & Grab coming in; took over their business; lured their drivers to switch, leaving them with an idle fleet of taxis; &
    * how AirBnb was banned from S’pore recently simply to protect the huge capital investments in hotels, hospitality facilities & commercial space from being eaten alive by sharing apps.
    The days of an easy & free lunch for S’pore created through FTAs (Free Trade Agreements) & TPPA (now cancelled) are over. Trade Protectionism sentiments are rising & offshoring of capital & profits by MNCs are now under scrutiny by global tax authorities.
    Even S’pore’s relentless Infrastructural Spending on facilities to keep ahead of competitors are now being matched by China’s OBOR geopolitical initiative. In addition, S’pore’s ASEAN Neighbours can all offer lower costs, cheaper wages & the same tax incentives used by EDB to lure investors & industrialists.
    The last big spender ie. China’s capital flight/ buying spree are nearly over. All the global property bubbles have been pricked with the exception of HK. And S’pore recent property spike is an aberration – driven by recent En Blockers buying of replacement properties after selling theirs through En Bloc sale. But that would mean an oversupply of units being built for a near non-existent market. Bear in mind the rental market is currently very weak, rents have been sliding down since 2013.
    S’pore GDP growth have been 100% fueled through easy money (foreign wealth flooding into SG$), near zero interest rates, easy lending & lax financing requirements (govt had to control by TDSR) & high levels of carrying debts at corporate & households. How long can this debt fuelled party last?
    S’pore’s high cost fragility is bound to be exposed going forward. How many people are are prepared for it?
