Unemployment up may be even worse?

I refer to the article “Unemployment rate at 3.1% as of June 2017; Employment rate continues to increase” (Channel NewsAsia, Nov 30).

It states that “The seasonally adjusted resident unemployment rate rose from 3 per cent in June 2016 to 3.1 per cent in June this year, according to the latest figures released by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) on Thursday (Nov 30).”

Don’t you find the increase in the unemployment rate kind of weird, as it does not seem to gel with the recent rhetoric that the economy is growing at a much faster pace than originally projected, the job market is improving, etc?

Also, why is there no mention of the citizens’ unemployment rate?

Moreover, with an average of 30,000 new PRs and 20,000 new citizens granted yearly – wouldn’t the unemployment rate be possibly higher, without the re-classification of such foreign workers into resident workers?

For clarity sake, employment growth rate and unemployment rate are not inversely related. Seasonal unemployment is usually higher in the middle of the year when a new batch of graduates enter the labour market and students are looking for jobs during their school holidays. Comparing year to year it’s an increase of 0.1%
Whether resident’s unemployment/employment statistics imply both Singaporeans and foreign workers, I see more Singaporeans sitting around coffee-shops/Starbucks outside lunch hours and Bangladeshi workers digging and resurfacing the same roads, causing the same traffic jams! I am a stickler for reality because when I look around us, the reality somehow doesn’t seem to fit the rosy picture that the statistics seem to suggest.

PAPpys FART LIES AGAIN. Unemployment is only 3.1%? My usual reliable informed source told me that SP Group’s billing advice to households HAVE LONG published that MORE THAN 10% OF HOUSEHOLDS could NOT even pay their utilities bill on time!!

That is strongly suggestive that more than 10% of households are either financially broken of no employment income or struggling with scraps of part-time income and unable to pay their utilities bill on time.

The reported 3.1% unemployment statistics is PAPpy’s invention of fiction.

How to believe and trust PAPpys like this?

More than 6 months unemployed removed from stats, deemed lazy.

Replaced PMETs doing taxi, Uber grab deemed as employed.

Increase number of locals through conversion of foreigners into PRs, end up unemployment stats suppressed.

3% is under reported, at least 6%, mostly locals replaced by FTs.

  • pap selected INDIAN president:

to expect pap to stop telling lies is to ask pap to stop forming government.

it is not possible. all pap Ljs and pap Cbs lie.

when caught, they set our interpretation of rules they set themselves. they say cannot be within 200m of polling station on polling day. 3 pap Ljs not only within 200m they were INSIDE.

so pap cannot change the rule they set they changed the definition of inside. pap says when inside is not within 200m.

    inside is NOT within 200m?

so to expect pap to tell the truth about local born unemployment by segregating resident data is to expect the pap pig to really turn into a goat. it is not possible. whatever sarong is used to cover head, when papa is INDIAN, when mendaki says INDIAN, when ic says INDIAN, when she herself has lamented about her INDIANness, it is impossible for a pig to turn into a goat in truth. only way is to have New Government. only way.

82 pap Ljs and pap Cbs so fast to attack others. when it comes to ownself, no sound no fury. WTF.

Even if our unemployment rate is higher than the stated 3.1%, there is nothing to be alarmed about as it is still among the lowest in the world. In the developed world the natural rate of unemployment is 4%-5%, so we are still well below that. Graduates continue to find emplyoment very easily at very good starting salaries as our world class education system ensures this.

Ah yes, the magic 3% or thereabouts unemployment rate used time after time when reporting on the labour force.

Where got so good forever hovering at 3% right or not? With the prolonged economic recession we are having now it definitely is more than 3% for sure. Who can forget that Surbana, SPH, HP retrenched staff this year alone? Who also doesn’t know that companies are also downsizing since last year but not reported in the papers?

developed world has unemployment benefit, we don’t.

unemployment rate is not the same as underemployment.

graduates may have good starting pay, but they will this same starting pay until our world class immigration system ensure they are quickly replaced by FT well before they turn 40 to drive taxi or PHV.

Whatever seems to come out the pappies’ mouths is actually coming out of their arses.

Employed persons here means .. what? Civil Service only sampled? FT and PR only? Less than 2 months unemployed only? Part-time work included? Unpaid trainee or OJT included as well? Jobs with wages unable to support $G with high turnover also in?

Many ways to cheat. However we can see reality is very different.
