A difference can be made with powerful collective voices of the people

Over the last year, the Singapore People’s Party has made many moves to bolster and strengthen our team.

You would have noticed our team back on the ground, and with some new faces knocking on doors to meet and greet you and hear from you.

For some, we have also reached out to provide assistance in whatever way we could, when help was sought.

Throughout the course of 2017, we have heard your frustrations, and we have also understood what are the issues which are causing you the stress and distress of daily living in Singapore.

Our commitment, is to continue supporting you, and being there for you.

In 2018, we will continue our outreach, as we look to reach out and to connect and hear from as many of you as possible.

As a nation, we will be stronger if we stand together.

We can make a difference as long as we believe that our collective voices are powerful enough to have the Government see our points of view and perspectives.

Let us continue working together to bring about the Singapore which we desire, not just for ourselves, but for our children and our elderly.

Singapore belongs to all Singaporeans.

From all of us at the Singapore People’s Party, we would like to wish all of you a Happy New Year and a wonderful 2018 ahead and may there be peace and harmony amongst all nations too.

Statement issued by the Singapore People’s Party to Singaporeans for the New Year.

No offend, SPP only can win potong pasir at most. There shoudln’t be a need to have so many political parties, the best bet and strongest form of strategy is all the good ones join WP. Like what Nicole Seah has done.

I’m not sure where SPP does their walkabouts but I do hope that enough voters get to know them and trust them.

I assume an election will be called in 2019 or 2020 since it would be just about right. I’m particularly looking at the eastern wards for the best hope of more opposition being voted in.

    Still far from reality.
The ruling clique using their political tactical strategy has systematically fixed the opposition, pushing them to a corner to become docile and ineffective.
If the opposition wants to seriously contribute to better the quality and standards of governance of the country, knowing the current state of the opposition parties, and with the few genuine talented good men remaining and still persevering; let’s get real, put aside ego and hypocrisy, sit together, cooperate with each other and face the giant. The opposition in their fragmented state today are no match for the ruling group. The noble aims and mission of the opposition could only be realized and achieved together as one united body.

No offence! But Chiam See Tong & the SDP took up 3 Parliamentary seats (while the Low Thia Kiang of WP took Hougang) in the 1991 GE. Eight out of nine SDP candidates came in among the top ten opposition candidates in that election.
But when Chiam took in Dr Chee Soon Juan, It was the beginning of the end for the SDP. Many SDP members fell for the firebrand style of Dr Chee. Also, the PAP enacted their Asset Enhancement Policy post-1991 GE which change constituency politics. Basically, opposition wards weren’t given upgrading opportunities aka HDB Main Upgrading programs. This began the NIMBY ie. ‘Not In My Neighbourhood’ attitudes which have plagued opposition politics since.
Chiam left in 19996 after he lost a power struggle against his SDP peers who were enthralled with Dr Chee. He joined SPP & won again in Potong Pasir in the next 1997 General Elections. But the SDP under Dr Chee lost their remaining seat in Parliament – many S’poreans unable to accept Dr Chee’s style ie. Democratic values & his aggressive confrontational campaigning. Noticed that he had changed drastically since but his early day still hurt him today. And SDP had remained on the fringe of opposition politics today.
Meanwhile, if you had notice Low Thia Kiang’s political style – he follows closely Chiam’s style of being a moderate & humble opposition politician. He avoids confronting the PAP head-on. The biggest endearing image of Chiam in his political career was him driving his VW Beetle around Potong Pasir to meet-&-greet the ground. In fact in the 1984 election campaign, the late LKY quipped PAP candidate Mah Bow Tan had stellar academic qualifications than Chiam who had average GCE ‘O’levels. But it didn’t hurt Chiam at all when he defeated Mah in Potong Pasir. And we all knew how Mah came into Parliament afterwards & his performance since.
Many feel that the WP & many opposition parties especially S’pore First are simply PAP-Lite parties. There are no opposition parties that could provide an ideological difference to PAP’s ‘failing values’. Maybe people should relook at Chiam’s political style again – a lot of hard work (meet-&-greet the people) on the ground; inculcating basic core values against PAP’s unattainable elitist policies, etc.

There is no real $ingapore to speak of – there are older migrants, newer migrants and in-betweens. There are 70% who follow the pappies since they think they can gain the most short-term.

Each has different loyalties to their own country of birth and race.
Therefore it is not possible for the $G opposition to win any further seats – too many people nowadays identify with their own racial, religious or nationalistic groups.

Indeed it is not clear if they will hold on to the current constituencies. $G locals are also a disloyal lot.
Mr Chiam worked hard for so long yet got bad-mouthed and kicked out.

So I urge everyone to b realistic and practical. When the s**t hits the fan make sure you have some protection or you will get screwed.

And I am not talking about condoms.

What’s Dr Chee’s democratic values that many could not accept?
How was he aggressive? That one incident at the HDB food court?
In politics if you are not “confrontational” then how should you speak or conduct yourself, any guidelines on style?
Come on, Dr Chee like the late JBJ and the few other brave souls didn’t stand a chance.
For decades they were treated with disrespect and rubbished.
Where do they have the space to argue or air their views or ideas?
How do they expand their support then?
Let’s not pretend or kid ourselves.

    @ Cut the crap:
Truth hurts, mate! Bukit Batok BE vs PAP’s Murali. A winnable by-election for the opposition after ex-MP David Ong ‘caught eating tofu’. WP & opposition parties back off to allow SDP & Dr Chee Soon Juan a chance to contest in a 2 party contest. A show of goodwill from all opposition parties to avoid splitting votes & 3-corner fights which favour PAP. But Dr Chee still lost to Murali! How do you explained the loss? Don’t blame me for stating the obvious? You need to analyze more deeply the cause – was it the Bukit Batok electorate? was Murali a better candidate than Dr Chee? or was it Dr Chee himself? If the WP had contested the BB BE, would they have been more successful?
Don’t kill the messenger, mate! Look at the message that Dr Chee is putting across. Apparently, it doesn’t translate to winning elections. Why? And BB BE isn’t the only election that Dr Chee lost in the past. This is one question I can’t answer? Can you?

It’s not that the opposition parties no standard nor were disunited. It’s just that majority of voters want political stability & security. They don’t want political disruptions of any kind. In addition, PAP were enjoying the benefit of the LKY ‘HALO’ effect. But LKY ‘HALO’ effect is fast fading.
Educate the majority, then you’ll fight the PAP on relevant grounds ie. economics re: jobs vs GDP focus, political stability without destabilizing the status quo, & ensuring security & safety concerns. Most importantly, bring the 70% into the fold as a united country.

agree, bro. very well said. BUT humans change as situations change. as more and more local born get displaced in own land of birth because of crap pap policies pap kaputs. a matter of timing. we think very soon.

that is why pap clown spends more time fixing reserved presidency and WP. pap clown knows pap can kaput just like that and given his poor reception by many local born, coffee shop analysis says pap kaputs very soon. clown’s nail to his coffin are 2 things. 1st, clown can also call an INDIAN as malay and be selected president. 2nd, WP saga at the moment pales when all the world shattering corruption of pap companies are weighed on the same scale YET pap abuses time and effort on WP when all energies should be on corrupt temasick companies run by his wife. CORRUPTION in capital letters come from companies run by his wife and is news all over the world. CAN paper continue to cover fire? surely NOT.

pap clown and his cahoots can continue as they are? lying. paying each other S$m without any accountability? surely NOT.

can say like that. more like brainwashed into being fearful. a nation of daft & fearful people is the most easier to control – it also offers stability and security.

the possible disruption will mostly come from the top (third world mentality) – those who cannot afford to lose (long term power is so intoxicating) and will keep on throwing bogeyman & transitional problems.

    @ ctvgbh

I AM ON THE SAME PAGE as you. ONly WP/SDP is viable – the smaller party is a distraction of voters’ attention of what opposition politics is and should be. The implosion of NSP just before the 2015 election DID STAGGERING DAMAGE to opposition headway – many daft voters see NSP as incapable of governing themselves (how to govern LEEjiapore then) when the truth is that SDP/WP are strong opposition platform for change.

ctfvgbh: No offend, SPP only can win potong pasir at most. There shoudln’t be a need to have so many political parties, the best bet and strongest form of strategy is all the good ones join WP. Like what Nicole Seah has done.

This is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. If voters do not repent in the next GE, it is GONE. I would – in that circumstances – be happy. It is free choice of writing their own funeral epitaph.

Dafts must see beyond the party politickings. Every organization will have that.
The question is about dismantling PAP’s strangle hold on Singapore, dictating the rules to gain perpetual power. PAP is now the most corrupt organization in Singapore. The result is Singapore is declining, very rapidly as failures are unaccounted. Every sinkie should be concerned. The first step is to remove the corrupt PAP, to break this, calls for voting for change, voting for any sensible opposition party. Sinkies could then separate the grains from the chaffs in the new government. Sinkies should be clear in their thoughts. The current state of mess in Singapore is a direct result of the long one party only PAP rule. It has nothing to do with oppositions. Sinkies made that choice albeit hookwinked by the gerrymandering of evil PAP and PAP lies. The fake malay presidency has crossed that boundry of just making honest mistake. The fact now is that PAP is no longer fit to be in parliament, to govern Singapore. This is the first thing that should be set right. wake up and stand up for yourselves.
