CPF : Cruel Treatment To Senior Citizen

I am JW. Sometime In Sept, Mr Leong Sze Hian has hightlighted my comment under the heading “CPF: Why offered 22, 24, 30 years, etc, monthly retirement payout?”

I have reached my PEA of 64 in October this year and I have tens of thousands in my retirement account. CPF had sent me a notice in August that I will be receiving my retirement monies at $16 per day for a period of 30 long years. Since then, I have sent several mails stating my objections. I felt that I have been treated unfairly as a Singapore citizen. Why others can collect their monies in 20 years’ time but mine is 30 years. That $16 per day is definitely not enough for my old age survival in today’s expensive situation, needless to say in ten, twenty or thirty years’ time.

Since August, my case has been passed on from one officer to another and the last rejection mail came from one Asst Director on Friday, 29th Dec parroting their two excuses.

First excuse: “Increasing life expectancy ”. This is just a rubbish excuse not to return our sweat and blood savings and pretend to act as good guy to look after us till age of 95 (Of course there are people who can live up to this age but is rare). Even our SM don’t even live up to age of 95 despite of having the best medical team to attend to him. For me, an ordinary working class auntie, I might not even last for another 15 years with this kind of pathetic payout. Ridiculously, without knowing me or my medical condition, they can speculate I can last for another 30 years to receive the payouts. HaHa!

Second excuse: “Extra Interest”- another rubbish excuse. I have indicated many times that I am not interested in their extra interest. I might not be alive any more to enjoy. I am not begging for any handouts but only getting back my rightful savings which I had worked so hard for the past forty years. Initially we were being told that these savings will be released to us when we reached 55 years of age.

Unfortunately, our collections are being delayed further and further away as years passed by. Please understand that these are the only savings we have and we need these monies for our old age daily survival.

CPF Board has been very inconsiderate and very cruel in giving this kind of treatment to senior citizen. I am not sure whether I am the only unlucky one or there are other brothers and sisters in the same situation. We are the ones who had struggled very hard to build up today’s nation. Instead of showing appreciation, we are being treated like old dirt with such low respect. Where is justice?

I have copied my mails to the Labour Minister who oversee the CPF Board. As expected, the betterer guy is acting blind and deaf to my concerns. Lastly, I have to thank my MP’s effort who has helped me along.

I see a common thread in various schemes CPF comes out of late

As mentioned in this post, thin out the monthly payments by stretching out the period from 20 to 30 to …..years.

I am more fotunate as I used my CPF fund to buy CPF Life Plus scheme, a type of annuity scheme. On reaching 64 years, my monthly payment started till I kick the bucket. The longer I live, better my benefit as there is no expiry date on the scheme.

On arriving at my payout date, I received a letter from CPF that if I choose to delay payout by a year, they will pay me high interest of 7%! Isnt it amazing that in the past 40 odds years CPF can only pay me 2.5%, now suddenly they can generate a much higher interest rate! one of these statements is false, guess which one?

The Common thread is CPF wants to retain your fund for as long as possible. For my case, at least I am given an option to join the higher interest scheme.

Thanks but no thanks CPF, bird in hand is better than..

This is definitely of concern to all Singaporeans. Thought the realistic age should be 85 and not 95. For men, 95 is surely unattainable except for few lucky (or unlucky) ones.

$16 a day is fine with food alone but what about others like medical, PUB rates, transportation, clothing etc. There must be a minimum amount for retirement payout.

True, CPF is our own money and no matter how KIND(actually they just do not want to pay social welfare to old people)the government is, the owner of the money must have some say. In the case of JW, she does not believe she can live up to 95 and wish to have the period shorten. CPF must allow that flexibility and reasonableness.

IMPRISONMENT OF CPF past the retirement age of 55 is THEFT OF PRIVATE PROPERTY in both statutory and common law applications.

CPF has long been a saga of theft of invested returns before that.

Cruelty imposition and consequences of that is the effects of this theft which no one admitted to its commissioning.

Is this theft done enough yet and how long must it continues for peasants’suffering?

Hello Auntie JW, you are not alone in your predicament. According to WHO Life Expectation Report 2015, Singapore women will live to 86.1 years so they “tarok” another 9 years to your life over the next 30 years. Maybe when you reach 85, they will extend another 5 years, so you should live to 100! What can you do about it? NOTHING!

Don’t think your MP can help. Even if he did write ton of letters for you, will CPF heeds him? Frankly, in his heart, he knows it wouldn’t change and there will be no effect. He is just there to wayang. And should everything is run properly, there is no need to get MP to write any letter of appeal.

Did anyone find out how much your MP can help you? All these letters written by them to the agencies, how many percent come back positive.

The problem is CPF is already kosong. That is why they are so afraid TCB will become President and ask them questions on CPF and our Reserves. And by a skroke of the pen, an Indian can be Malay overnight. Wait too under the belt cheating just to safe face cause the truth hurt them. For that they may have to run road. Probably “cheaper” than borrowing from IMF ?

Look GOOD some more,…cause “Nobody” knows what is your actual “borrowings or debt”….unlike countries who borrows from IMF for aid.

Also making it Easier to “Manipulate” the currency strength without devaluation.

Ya lor,…my uncle who was suffering from Cancer ,..got half his stomach “cut off” and also a Kidney transplant patient, couldn’t get all his $$$ out from CPF too !.

Even after his Principal Doctor( SGH ), help and wrote a letter to CONFIRM the Medical case and help “withdraw” his CPF due to medical reasons.

As if a “dying”man can’t “touch” his own $$$$ inside CPF and as if “every one even the SGH doctor’s letter” is “not trustworthy”….it actually took my uncle 6 months to “get approval” …and Hundreds in $$$ for released of ‘Medical records” ( from and between One govt Hospital to Cpf Board),,

Finally,….at the end of it,….he still WON”T BE ABLR TO GET ALL HIS OWN MONEY …cause they will “lock it” about S$40k under Medisave and another S$40k in Special Account.

Ya,…even a confirm “dying” person has to set aside about S$80k which you will never be able to see or touch !

I wonder who gets this S$80k if that account holder was a bachelor who did not make any will ???

    @ Furious

The “only 1 bond” which our CPF money was pretentiously invested in is a camouflage in deception. It is NOT listed on any stock exchange. If the “only 1 bond” have been earning a rate of return of 8% to 10% annually but rewarded CPF members a miserly 2.5% return per annum, it would, by now accumulated maybe hundreds of billions of cash hoards. Any smartie public investor who had bought investment in this (if listed) “only 1 bond” would have acummulated wealth values today beyond his/her wildest imagination. It is like in USA, some smart investors having bought into AMAZON dot. com, Apple or Google or Facebook at incubation stage. No need to worry about adequacy of financial solvency in retirement.

And under corporate law, all investors of LISTED EQUITIES OR BONDS must be treated pari passu of ranking (equal rights in non-law parlance of language) and all its investors must enjoy exactly the same rights. Nobody or any class of investors in any LISTED INVESTMENTS may enjoy a different higher rate of returns than others.

But the “only 1 bond” of your mention is NOT LISTED, so the issuer can play havoc disregarding corporate law. I have compelling apprehension a lot in the public mind will conclude justifiably that it is ILLEGAL of a rotten scam.

@ Ong PC, you got any clever moment on this since CPF is NOT pension but locked-up private retirement savings?

  • increasing life expectancy:

increasing life expectancy is prevalent ? really ? 40 to 60 (or 65) ? or 65 to 85 to 90 to 100 ? go take a look at burial grounds or columbariums (ppl do take notice hor), what percentage live to 80 or 85. and besides who provides the statistics ? interested parties like insurance companies (must make profit hor) or garment (like sinkie land one). with computer systems, very easy for authorities to give table of each age group of people still alive and those who expire. any such information ?

pension systems remain solvent ? well simply becos wealth is skewed more to those at the top even for those managing investment funds (and most govts e.g those not really 1st world ones take care of themselves and civil servants first while taxing the general population) and not general public (as far as distribution of public goodies is concerned.)

haha. if you notice, there is a subtle shift in narrative to “redefine” (don’t know whether it is a deliberate act by the white idiotic gang or not ?) cpf as pension. the moment it is accepted by sinkies that cpf is pension, well the white idiots will get to decide the amount and timing of payout – e.g the compulsory annuity ?

just imagine if one already has (able to accumulate) the minimum required, does one still need the white idiotic gang to decide the payout schedule for him (overall returns vis-a-vis principal / mortality) – and like in any funds, they are structured to ensure a net gain (their own cut and compensation) for the administrators (especially one which is a powerful ownself-check-ownself entity).

PC Ong is a real “dixk”…

    Firstly, $16 x 30 = $480 ( ~ 500) per month… I wonder if he is as calculative with his Mother?

Second, CPF is our money, our savings. It is not government handout / state money. So why should Ong suggest that it is a supplement to my savings?? How can my savings be supplement to my savings ??? Ong’s logic is utterly stupid.

Thirdly, an increase in life expectancy should be a reason to rejoice and not used as a tool to exploit. Why should the government hold on to OUR money to supplement (btw is a much accurate use of the word “supplement”) their expenditures for the old ? Isn’t taking care of the older generations one of any government’s core responsibility ? Isn’t that what our GLCs investments are for ? Why use our money ? Can’t our government do better ? Can’t our government plan further?

Finally, If we cannot determine or review how our government invest or manage the citizens’ money (reserves and CPF) in the tune of billions a year, why should they be concern about how we spend our own savings? Unless they (the government) have already spent it all behind our backs….

    See… ONG is a dixk.
