Has our CPF Ordinary Account’s interest rates been beating inflation, historically?

I refer to the article “Malaysian pension fund set to make record payout” (Straits Times, Feb 10).

It states that “”We have been informed it will definitely be higher than before,” an EPF board member told The Straits Times ahead of Saturday’s (Feb 10) expected dividend announcement.”

The EPF, which manages RM800 billion in assets, declared a dividend of 5.7 per cent last year and 6.4 per cent in 2016, with total payouts amounting to RM37 billion and RM38 billion, respectively.

EPF chief executive Shahril Ridza Ridzuan has also said last month that the country’s largest asset manager is set to continue a five-year track record of beating inflation by at least 3.5 percentage points, far surpassing its self-imposed target of a minimum real dividend of 2 per cent.

He said this just before Malaysia revealed that last year’s inflation was 3.7 per cent. This means that the EPF dividend would have to be at least 7.2 per cent to match the fund’s performance in the past five years.”

Why is it that our CPF interest rates historically, are so much lower than EPF’s?

I AM SURE A LOT OF CPF MEMBERS must be desperately impatient to invest their CPF savings on their own – minus the morons who don’t even know the difference between daylight and night of truth/falsity.

  • pap selected INDIAN president:

if we are making S$m year in and year out like pap Ljs and pap CBs, we don’t even want the minimum sum in CPF. we happily donate it to pap gic or pap temasick. WHAT is minimum sum when we are making S$m year in and year out like pap Ljs and pap Cbs.

BUT we are not making S$m year in and year out like pap Ljs and pap CBs. worse we are jobless surviving on scraps. although at the threshold of doing exercise collecting cardboards avoided doing so by skipping a meal every other day while waiting for the 1st payout from minimum sum.

SO when pap MFs start to raise GST in a few days time imagine our horror. this is like hitting the poor below the belt. the poor already skipping every other meal while waiting for 1st payout from minimum sum now must bear burden of corruptly run excessively nepotistic profligate pap companies?

WHY not tax each other since ownself can continue to pay ownself S$m with additional S$m for the added taxes? WHY tax the poor who already skipping every other meal while waiting for 1st payout from minimum sum?

THE conclusion is 70% sheep truly has harmed majority of poor folks living in rotting Singapore under clown infested pap. WE hope we can outlive these 70% sheep to hear of their bleat about skipping meals to pay GST to compensate for the corruptly run excessively nepotistic profligate pap companies. THE day shall come. earlier for some sheep. later for some sheep. BUT the day shall come. ffff the stupid 70% sheep.

looking at a pig clown says look a goat. every pap Lj and every pap Cb in parleement all agree and clap clap one outdoing the other to be heard saying yes sir yes sir what a short obedient goat. WTF.

  • I educate you:

    Mr Leong
Most Singaporeans are too afraid for your article to have any effect.

This is why most Singaporeans are still the same despite over a decade of trying to educate them.

    Fear is the cause.
Fear is why they always say Boh Bian.

The only real “success” (for PAP) is the education system. After 5 decades it has succeeded in making the majority of Singaporeans either stupid or spineless or both.
