MARUAH collaborates with The Online Citizen to discuss the issue of live telecasting of parliamentary proceedings.

On Saturday 28th April, the public forum Live/Not: Parliamentary Proceedings in Singapore will be held at Success Training Centre, Bras Basah Complex at 1 pm as part of the conversation on live telecasting of parliamentary proceedings. It will be an open discussion with speakers from some of Singapore’s most well-known independent media platforms and the public.

On 7th November 2017, debate between Chee Hong Tat and Leon Perera struck in Parliament on the issue of and request for live telecasting of parliamentary proceedings. The former being the Senior Minister of State for Ministry of Communication and Information and the latter being a Non-Constituency Member of Parliament from the Workers’ Party. Since then, the issue has gained attention from many of Singapore’s independent media platforms.

Live/Not: Parliamentary Proceedings in Singapore aims to add to the conversation by delving beyond the politics of the debate and into the the more nuanced issues at stake. Transparency of political operations, accountability of politicians and democracy being a two-way street walked by both government and civil society are examples of the larger picture signified by the live or not-live question.

Live/Not: Parliamentary Proceedings in Singapore is curated by MARUAH in collaboration with The Online Citizen. MARUAH is a Singapore human rights NGO dedicated to the promotion of human rights at all levels, national, regional and international. The Online Citizen is Singapore’s longest-running independent online media platform and has been an enduring voice of perspective and critique on Singapore’s current affairs. Both organisations have collaborated to create an open space for opinions on the issue of live telecasting of parliamentary proceedings to be expressed freely and peacefully.

Never trust the crooks that robbed your CPF money.
    Same for HDB.
Vote them out asap. It can only get better with any new government.
