MRT tunnel flooding could have been prevented if SMRT had sacked maintenance VP earlier

SMRT has just announced the sacking of its maintenance VP, Mr Ng Tek Poo for Saturday’s 20-hour disruption.

The tunnel flooding could have possibly been prevented had Ng been sacked years earlier.

Ng was the same maintenance VP responsible for 2 massive disruptions in 2011 where cable ties were subsequently found to be used to secure rail claws.

During the COI in May 2012, Ng had already confirmed he did not really know his job.

Ng:”.. did not know that vibration could dislodge the metal claws holding the power supply third rail in place”.  But claws had in fact been falling since .. pai seh … 25 years ago/from the time the system started.

To Ng, cable tying our multi-billion dollar MRT system was the answer.

After the second breakdown on Dec 17, Ng said the SMRT management was still ‘puzzled as to why it happened again’. Ng became enlightened only after an Australian vibration expert ran tests on its tracks.

Ng suka suka decided that the problem of dropped claws was not important to be brought to the attention of SMRT’s top management. This resulted in Ng being told off at the COI: “.. if you had raised it and if you had dealt with that problem, we would not be here today.”

Ng was clearly incompetent then and should have been sacked, along with his former boss Saw Phaik Hwa who had assumed proper maintenance was optional.

Why did CEO Desmond Kuek continue to keep Ng as maintenance VP? Hmm .. to make his self-appointed incompetent top management look good?

At the Wayang Press Conference yesterday, $8Cow repeated the same comments made by ex-DPM Wong Cunt Sing when Mas Selamat escaped to JB: it shouldn’t have happened, I am sorry it has”!

In front of everyone, Chairman of SMRT, Seah Moon Ming was made to the BOWING ritual minus the Important Hara Kiri part! SMRT Group CEO Demon Quack stood aside to witness the Noble Act. And for the 1st time since he become the CEO, he opened his Golden Mouth to apologize! Also announced was the sacking of VP Ng Take POO!

Think the whole lot from $8Cow to CEO Demon Quack, VPs, Directors, all only know how to blame everyone except themselves for all the frequent disruption and breakdown that affect thousands and thousands of commuters! In the recent flooding oops ponding incident at Bishan, the Blame was on the malfunction of the pumps! One Big Q for those MFs: if the DRAINAGE SYSTEM ABOVE AND AROUND the MRT station is NOT WELL MAINTAINED, even if all the fiacking pumps are working, WHERE DO YOU EXPECT THE PUMPED OUT WATER TO FLOW TO? So it’s NOT only the maintenance of the fiacking pumps that is important, the Drainage system in, above and surrounding area in ALL MRT stations is also very Important! Arrow should also AIM at agency like NEA! Some Heads must also roll at NEA! Big Nose Teo, what do you think?

    In meeting,
CEO Quack – Why claws are falling? How to secure them?

VP Poo – Don’t worry, we use cable ties. Cheap and good. Your wife can take some home to use.

CEO Quack – That is a brilliant cost saving idea!
    Meeting over.

Ministry of Transport or in other words The Transport Minister himself. He did not check on SMRT. Instead he sits at his air con office everyday counting his CPF and bank balance.

  • pap selected INDIAN president:

Why did CEO Desmond Kuek continue to keep Ng as maintenance VP? Hmm .. to make his self-appointed incompetent top management look good?

VP is a job title. but in some organizations it is an inflated title with little decision making power.

we are not saying if sacking VP is right or wrong. we are saying mrt must sack the right person.

who is the right person? the right person is the person who MUST decide what to do. he is the person they report to for decision making when there is a problem.

if this mrt VP cannot make the decision of what to do next and must inform so called senior management, then, the senior management must be sacked. it is not the VP. you see, one of two things must have happened.

1st thing. if VP is the one, and senior management knowing of problem asked him how are things and he said problem solved, then, VP is the decision maker and the sacking of VP is the right one.

2nd thing. if VP is not the one, and senior management knowing of problem did NOT ask him how are things and did not pursue solution, then, SENIOR MANAGEMENT is culpable.

a digression. do note above this sacked VP is SVP and maybe EVP and then dismount quack. so although dismount quack is ultimately responsible, he has shield in SVP, maybe EVP before he has to give up his S$m.

we are unfortunate to have inherited a lky culture where everyone except himself is wrong. lky did not sack himself for blunders even though he has a hand in everything. this wrong culture is what we are seeing today, ownself check ownself. if need to wayang, sack the VP and leave the SVP and maybe VP and definitely dismount quack alone.

we tell our young. never work for pap. because it is ike working for imperial household in Yellow emperor days. relatives and related all protected and only the unconnected are sacrificed.

truly, the right thing is for dismount quack to honestly say I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO and resign instead of sacking a VP who is quite low the totem pole and not paid the S$m to take that kind of hit.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
ownself check ownself. begets the kiasu save your a*s* culture. no wonder to save a*s* an INDIAN is malay not a single pap folk stood up to disagree. WTF.

now back to real military scenario, who really pays the price when top general makes the wrong decision. aiyoh, soldiers lar who may have to pay for the lives while top generals at most get demotion or the sack (lives very much intact hor).

But why worry, they are protected after all. They know they won’t get sacked and this dismissal of its VP is just wayang. Wait for a report saying he is some ambassador or something to be out eventually.

There is more to come fellow commuters. What we can expect is more frequent disruptions on the NSEW, particularly the stretch between City Hall and AMK. Don’t be surprised if they start happening twice a week as well.

But squeezing us for money is very easy and this pleases the spoilt brat.Other matters like maintenance etc are not attention getting so are given low priority.

Just ask LTA paper general CEO or paper general police Comm.

For example, active policing brings in ZERO $$$ so they don’t recruit enough officers. That’s why there are only placard cops.

Since the COI on the Little India rioting, there’s been no beefing up of SPF (PAP).

  • Too many breakdowns no excuses:

When you are paid so highly, there must be zero tolerance for error.
For non-performance, the right thing to do is to resign or be dismissed.
That is the honorable thing to do.
In most organizations it is usually the little people that somehow got the sack or demotion for mistakes made.
Here they tend to protect and shield the elitists from being made responsible and pay for the mistakes.
That got to change for the benefit of smooth operation and governance.
Wonder how many of the top guys roll up their sleeves and go down to the ground on a regular basis.
    Hardly heard about it.

More breakdowns is a sign that the RAIL has to be nationalised . Money which is sponged from the commuters in increasing fares should be used for regular maintenance instead of be given to shareholders . In fact fares will not have to be increased so often if there are no shareholders . It’s a win-win situation as we will have happy commuters and lesser breakdowns .
Some clowns will argue that it will not be efficient as there is no incentive to work hard . Why should that be so ? It is still run by the same people and if there is profit which will be if more people use it , their salaries and bonuses will not be affected . The difference is the profit goes to those who work hard to upkeep and run the system smoothly instead of shareholders who do nothing but sit and wait for windfalls .

The sickening thing is that these top civil servants and ministers thinks that they are safe and immune from responsibility as there will always be someone below them in the organisation structure to ‘carry the can’.
